Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian Vs JioPhone

Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian Vs JioPhone

Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian Vs JioPhone: The JioPhone, just like Jio 4G, has stirred up a bit of a hornet’s nest. So it seems. It’s not every day you see a ‘smart’ feature phone with 4G VoLTE sold in the market at an ‘effective’ price of Rs 0, or more precisely for free. Countermeasures from rival companies were inevitable. One of first telecom companies to up the ante against RIL’s JioPhone is Airtel.

Airtel has joined hands with home-grown brand Karbonn to offer a full-scale 4G smartphone — the Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian for Rs 1,399 — “effectively at the price of a feature phone.” The partnership is part of Airtel’s Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone initiative. The initiative will see the telecom network join hands with more OEMs in the days to come to “create an open ecosystem of affordable 4G smartphones and bring them to market for virtually the price of a feature phone.”

Both the JioPhone and the Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian are essentially contract-based phones in hindsight which means that you’ll have to shell out money on a carrier plan in order to avail their benefits. There are differences, when you dig in, but all-in-all both RIL and Airtel want you to invest an amount close to Rs 7,000 over a period of three years to make the best out of their respective deals. In the end of it all, while Airtel is claiming that the Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian will cost buyers Rs 1,399 the JioPhone, according to RIL, will cost them Rs 0. Keeping all these permutations and combinations aside, here are a few key pointers that make Airtel’s Karbonn A40 Indian hit the JioPhone out of the ball park:

1. First and foremost, the JioPhone is exclusively a contract-based feature phone which means that it will be locked to a Jio SIM for all its primary requirements. Simply put, you’ll have to have an activated Jio 4G SIM running at all times in order to use the JioPhone. Such contract-based phones aren’t new in India, but, they came, they saw and they failed long time ago. It’s been a long time that India has seen a full-fledged contract-based phone. But of course, the JioPhone changes all that. For better or for worse is yet to be seen. The Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian, on the other hand, isn’t actually a contract-based smartphone in the literal sense, as you can use any SIM card you wish – even a Jio 4G SIM for that matter – with it. In fact, even if someone wants to buy the Karbonn A40 Indian without an Airtel SIM, it will be available for buying at as low as Rs 2,899. You’ll have to splurge on an Airtel SIM – and an Airtel tariff plan – only if you wish to avail the Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian at an effective price of Rs 1,399. The Karbonn A40 Indian, therefore, offers greater flexibility than a JioPhone.

2. The second, but the most important bit, is that the Karbonn A40 Indian is a full-scale 4G VoLTE-capable smartphone. Without opting for any plan, you can go buy yourself Karbonn A40 Indian at a price as low as under Rs 3,000. For someone looking to make a switch from a feature phone to a smartphone, the Karbonn A40 Indian certainly makes a lot more sense as compared to a feature phone like the JioPhone. The 4G smartphone comes with a 4-inch display, a 1.3 Ghz processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable by up to 32GB via micro-SD card. The dual-SIM phone runs Android Nougat software and is backed by a 1,400mAh battery. It comes with a 2-megapixel camera on the rear and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front. Connectivity options include: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The JioPhone is a feature phone, but, it is smarter than other feature phones in the market right now. For one, it is 4G LTE and VoLTE-ready which means that it has the capability to become a user’s full-fledged internet device, much like a smartphone. Jio, being a 4G-only network, requires such a phone, after all. Qualcomm and Spreadtrum have independently confirmed that RIL’s 4G capable feature phone will have two versions. While one batch will be powered by a Snapdragon 205 SoC, a processor Qualcomm has made specifically for ultra-affordable 4G VoLTE phones, the other batch will come with an unspecified Spreadtrum-based processor on the inside. The software inside is a custom fork of Firefox OS — that is KaiOS — with features like voice search/virtual assistant built-in. The JioPhone has an all-plastic body with a T9 keypad on-board and support for as many as 22 Indian languages. The home button in the center will serve as a dedicated shortcut for firing up the voice assistant as well. It will come with a 2.4-inch QVGA colour screen and NFC support for secure mobile payments. The phone will also come with expandable memory. But, what’s most important for the majority of potential buyers out there is the fact that they will be able to browse the Internet and make video calls using the JioPhone.

3. At the end of the day, the JioPhone is still a feature phone while the Karbonn A40 Indian is a smartphone for real. An actual smartphone is an actual smartphone after all. The only possible limitation, in comparison to the JioPhone, is that the Karbonn A40 Indian does not support NFC and therefore isn’t meant for cashless mobile payments that require the functionality. The biggest drawback, in the case of the JioPhone in this increasingly connected world, is that the feature phone doesn’t support WhatsApp and Facebook, for now. This could be a deal breaker for many.

4. Moving on, RIL specifically notes that, in order to be eligible for a cash-back of Rs 1,500, users will have to return the phone to the telecom operator after three years. In the case of the Karbonn A40 Indian, however, the ownership of the smartphone is completely with the user and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/Karbonn at any point to claim the cash benefit.

5. The last bit – which is entirely subjective – is that the initial batch of JioPhones are being imported from China with RIL planning to make them in India towards the end of the year should there be great demand. The Karbonn A40 Indian, on the contrary, is a made in India smartphone right from the get-go.

Diwali 2017, Diwali Celebration, Traditions of Diwali

The Indian traditions of Diwali in India has a long history. Diwali Celebration all over India as a festival symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness.

Indian Traditions of Diwali

In North Indian traditions of Diwali, it is celebrated to honour the victory of Lord Rama over King Ravana and his return back home after an exile of 14 years. In South Indian traditions of Diwali, it marks the victory of Lord Krishna over Narakasura. In the eastern states, especially in West Bengal, on this day the furious Goddess Kali defeated the demon Bakasura.

Cleansing the house
Much before Diwali, it is time to throw away unwanted items, clean, repaint and refurbish homes depending on the budget. The tradition behind this is that Goddess Lakshmi graces those homes that are absolutely clean. Thus many decorate their homes with accessories like strings of lights, streamers ribbons, etc. Using colored powder or flower petals, colorful rangolis in traditional patterns are drawn at the doorways.

Making sweets
While there are many options for sweet delicacies in the market, people still prepare lots of mithais and savouries at homes. Sev, Gujiya, Farsan, Chivda, various laddoos, barfi, chakli etc., the list is endless as different regions have different specialities which are made and then distributed to immediate family and relatives and those visiting the house on this occasion.

Shopping
Diwali seems like one of the biggest shopping festivals in India since it is auspicious for buying new things. On the first day of Dhanteras it is considered good to buy gold and silver coins as well as jewellery. Kitchenware like utensils too are considered a good buy on this occasion. Electronics, gadgets, furniture, clothes, etc. people buy for themselves and also for gifting purposes. It is also known to be a good time to invest so new property and vehicles too are in big demand during this season.

Lighting Up the house
Illumination of homes is a must to invite the goddess of good fortune – Goddess Laxmi into one’s home. And the traditional way to do it is by lighting handmade earthen lamps with oil. Placed on window sills, and doorways, they add a glittering light to the darkest corners of the house.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire retains number 1 position in September, increases lead over Alto

Maruti Suzuki Dzire retains number 1 position in September

Maruti Suzuki Dzire ramped up the production of the Dzire sedan further in September as buyers queued up ahead of the month-long festive days. The compact sedan, which toppled Alto last month to claim the numero uno position, extended its lead over the mini car during last month.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire clocked 34,305 units last month, an increase of 81 percent over the same month last year. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in an all-new avatar by Maruti in May but ramp-up in volumes began only recently.

Alto, the old warhorse of Maruti, marked a dip in volumes yet again clocking 23,830 units last month, a fall of 14 percent compared to the same month last year. Volumes of entry hatchbacks have remained flat since many quarters as buyers have moved up the value chain.

Premium hatchback of the two year-old Baleno retained the third spot with sales of 16,238 units while Wagon-R came in fourth with 14,649 units sales during September. Maruti held on to its market share of 50 percent during the reporting month.

Korean brand Hyundai, which had three models in the top 10 list (Maruti had six models) in September, saw volumes cross the 50,000 mark, thanks to robust demand for the Grand i10 and 120 Elite.

Grand i10 climbed two spots to become the fifth largest-selling model even as i20 Elite and Creta settled for eighth and ninth spots. The Verna sedan became the best-seller in the mid-size sedan segment.

Mahindra & Mahindra retained its third spot with sales of 23,145 units during last month, a growth of 21 percent over 19,158 units clocked in the same month last year. Volumes of Bolero, Scorpio and XUV 500. Consumers scrambled to book their Mahindra vehicle before the cess hike kicked in in the middle of last month.

Tata Motors saw a solid bump-up in volumes thanks to the new launch Nexon and continued demand for the Tiago. Compact SUV Nexon, which was launched last month saw 2,772 units sales while Tiago climbed one spot to the 12th position with sales of 8,316 units in September.

Tata Nexon

The fear of a price hike positively impacted Honda volumes, too, with the Japanese brand witnessing a jump of 21 percent last month to 18,257 units. The fourth largest car maker saw volumes of the City fall behind the Hyundai Verna, which as per company claims has garnered 15,000 bookings.

With their limited and aging product range Ford, Renault, Nissan and Toyota continued to struggle in the domestic market as buyers moved to competition.

Toyota, the other big Japanese brand, saw a volume growth of just 2 percent last month; French major Renault saw volumes fall by 10 percent. Despite having eight models across two brands, six of which are from the volume generating segment, Nissan sales grew by just 1 percent last month.

Tata Teleservices to sell its wireless mobile business to Bharti Airtel

Tata Teleservices to sell its wireless mobile business to Bharti Airtel

Tata’s new boss N Chandrasekaran has found a solution for his loss-making and highly leveraged telecom business, four months after initiating talks with his counterpart at Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Mittal. Tata Teleservices  is selling its wireless mobile business to Bharti Airtel, said multiple sources aware.

The business along with its around 4 crore customers will be transferred on a cash free, debt-free basis for some consideration.

Bharti will take on part of Tata’s Rs 10,000 crore spectrum liability as well. Tata Tele has 180 MHz of spectrum across 800,1800, 2100 Mhz (3G, 4G) bands in 19 circles. Bharti will also be signing an indefeasible Rights of Use (IRU) agreement with Tata Teleservices for access to its fibre optic backbone.

The Bharti board is meeting to discuss and accept the proposal. An announcement is due later this evening.

Spokesperson of Tata and Bharti were not immediately available for comments.

Group watchers on both sides believe this could possibly be the beginning of a much larger strategic alliance and consolidation between both sides involving telecom, overseas cable and enterprise services, and direct-to-home TV businesses.

“Contrary to popular belief, Chandra has found a solution or a permanent home for telecom instead of closing the business…his biggest pain point,” said an official on condition of anonymity. “Talks have been ongoing for a few months to explore a strategic partnership. In between, it stalled but got revived in recent days. Both sides have been keen to forge a deeper alliance and this is just the start.”

The enterprise business, however, is not going to be part of this transaction as yet.

Goldman Sachs is the advisor for the transaction.

The acquisition will enable Bharti Airtel, the bigger partner in the alliance, to close the gap between Idea-Vodafone both in terms of numbers of subscribers as well as revenue market share. Airtel has nearly 280 million mobile phone users in India. Airtel will also get access to a ready network including 4G bandwidth in the much-sought-after 800 MHz band along with the fibre backbone

In a recent interaction with ET, the 53-year old Tata group insider who took charge of the corner office eight months back, emphasised that he will not shy away from “tough decisions” to drive agility, increase accountability and ensure high performance. Fixing telecom within this fiscal was his urgent priority.

“Telecom is one of the big problems I have to deal with. We have a debt of Rs 31,000 crore and we are paying huge interest. The mobile business is making loss. I definitely have my priority to solve this and I am on it. As soon as I came in, I looked at the portfolio and made a to-do list that included Tata Teleservices, delinking European and the India business of Tata Steel, and commercial vehicles and passenger cars of Tata Motors, ” Chandrasekaran said.

“In Tata Teleservices, either we will have to sell it or have a graceful exit. These are the two options and I want to complete it this fiscal year. I am working hard on it and that is my goal,” he added.

350 doctors from Nagpur government medical college suspended for strike

Nagpur government medical college

Nagpur: Around 350 resident doctors of the state-run Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur were suspended on Wednesday for bunking work since five days. On Tuesday, the state medical education minister Girish Mahajan had warned the resident doctors, saying they should resume duty within two days or would have to face suspension.

The resident doctors bunked work from Saturday, demanding enhanced security at the hospital. The striking resident doctors of GMCH claimed that hey are functioning without security guards for the last 25 days.

Tension erupted at the GMCH when the body of a murdered woman was found lying in the bushes adjacent to the hospital’s ward on Saturday morning. The body was naked. It is suspected that the woman was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped inside the GMCH premises. This led to a feeling of insecurity among the resident doctors. Last year, there were several incidents of assaults on state doctors across the state.

Dr Pradeep Kaswan , president of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), GMCH Nagpur said, “We need security guards at GMCH for our safety. That is our major demand. We have been given suspension letters but we are having meetings with Mr Mahajan and directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER). We want everything in writing or else will be continue with our strike,” he said.

Mr Mahajan said that the Maharshtra Security Force (MSF) guards went on a strike 20 days ago. “That thing sparked tension and the resident medicos went on strike without intimation. We have already arranged private security guards but these doctors don’t want them.” the minister said.

Nagpur Government Medical College dean Dr Abhimanyu Niswade claimed that 25 guards have been appointed at the hospital.

A survey by Assocham-Social Development Foundation mapped responses of wholesalers, retailers, traders in cities of Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow and Mumbai to estimate the demand for Chinese products across India.

WhatsApp Business to be launched : Here is the First Look at the App

Since the last one month, we have been continuously reading about WhatsApp Business. The WhatsApp Business is said to have the same layout as the messaging platform with a search bar and Settings icon on top. You get the total of messages sent, delivered, read, and received. You can set the business name, location, verified or unverified badge, email address, website, and business description.

Away messages are automated responses that your customers will get when they try reaching you and you’re not available. You also get a preview of how your business profile would look to others when they open it.

The service is still in testing mode and those who have signed up for the testing account can now give feedback to WhatsApp on data migration, analytics, scheduled messaged etc.

Here is what WhatsApp has been asking its users:
WhatsApp Business to be launched

The best thing about WhatsApp is that it is going to be a separate stand-alone application on the platform which will help users maintain a separation between personal and business accounts. WhatsApp has already explained different use case scenarios through which users can get onboard WhatsApp business and manage their personal and professional accounts. The below image is very important for that understand.
Download WhatsApp Business

On the customers’ end, they will be able to see all the details the businesses have added when they open up the business’ profile. WhatsApp has said it will allow users the option of blocking any service on the app and thus keeping out potential spam. When the customer initiates a chat with the business account, he would see the usual yellow box saying that the chat is secured using end-to-end encryption, and, there would be another yellow box which would mention that they are chatting with a verified/unverified business account.

The Android app can be found on the Play Store at this link. You likely won’t be able to see it because you need to be a Beta tester and that is still a private beta testing program. It has the same icon as WhatsApp, but the phone icon is replaced by a big letter B – check the image at the top of this post to see it.

Once downloaded, the app looks the same as WhatsApp, save for one change: the title bar says WhatsApp Business. There are tabs for your camera (and thus the fancy image status), chats, status, and calls. It’s all standard fare. The changes will start appearing when you head into Settings. There you’ll find two new sections for Business settings and Statistics.

A Samsung phone was caught exploding on camera, going up in flames and causing minor injuries to its owner.

Luck doesn’t seem to be on Samsung’s side.Earlier this week, a Grand Duos phone from the company exploded in a man’s shirt pocket in Indonesia.

The model in question, however, had a third-party component – the battery was not manufactured by Samsung, CNET reported. “We sincerely wish for our customer’s swift recovery, and strongly recommend all our consumers to use Samsung’s genuine or approved batteries that have been specifically designed for use in Samsung products.”

The video, uploaded on YouTube on October 3 has been viewed 346,327 times. The video shows the man falling to the ground as soon as the phone explodes in his face with a bright white-blue light. He then takes off his shirt, and is seen nursing his eyes.

According to the local police, the combustion of the Samsung smartphone may have been caused by the fact that Yulianto was using its Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth all at the same time, but that should not be enough to set a mobile device on fire on its own.

This is not a first for the South Korean giant. In 2016, Samsung recalled the Galaxy Note 7 models after several incidents of the smartphones going up in flames were reported.

Here is the complete list of the changes in the GST reduced tax rates on 27 goods.

2. For S. No.5 above, the phrase registered brand name means:

New GST rules changes : 12 things to know

New GST rules changes : 12 things to know

New GST rules changes :Three months after the rollout of the indirect tax regime, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, following a meeting on Friday, announced relief to small and medium businesses on filing and payment of taxes, and also eased rules for exporters and cut tax rates on 27 common use items.

After the meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, “GST Council has considered the implementation experience of the last three months and gave relief to small traders… Compliance burden of medium and small taxpayers in GST has been reduced.”
The relief granted to small and medium enterprises comes after complaints of tedious compliance burden under the GST that was intended to be a simple indirect tax regime which replaced over a dozen Central and state taxes.

The decision to reduce the compliance burden of small companies and traders, came two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi address regarding concerns over implementation of GST where he said that he had asked the Council to identify bottlenecks faced by small and medium enterprises.

Here’s the full list of New GST rules made by the Finance Minister during the meeting:

Composition Scheme

1. The composition scheme will be made available to taxpayers having annual aggregate turnover of up to Rs. 1 crore as against the previous turnover threshold of Rs 75 lakhs. This threshold of turnover for special category States will be increased to Rs 75 lakhs from Rs 50 lakhs, while the turnover threshold for Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand will be Rs 1 crore.

2. It has been decided that such People who are otherwise eligible for availing the composition scheme and are providing any exempt service(such as extending deposits to banks for which interest is being received), will be eligible for the composition scheme.

3. To make the composition scheme more attractive, a Group of Ministers (GoM) will be constituted to examine measures.

4. It has now been decided to exempt those service providers whose annual aggregate turnover is less than Rs 20 lakhs (Rs. 10 lakhs in special category states except for J & K) from obtaining registration even if they are making inter-State taxable supplies of services. This measure is expected to significantly reduce the compliance cost of small service providers.

5. To facilitate the ease of payment and return filing for small and medium businesses with annual aggregate turnover up to Rs 1.5 crores, a recommendation has been made that such taxpayers will be required to file quarterly returns in FORM GSTR-1,2 & 3 and pay taxes only on a quarterly basis, starting from the Third Quarter of this Financial Year i.e. October-December, 2017.

6. To benefit small businesses and substantially reduce compliance costs, the reverse charge mechanism under sub-section (4) of section 9 of the CGST Act, 2017 and under sub-section (4) of section 5 of the IGST Act, 2017 will be suspended till March 31, 2018 and will be reviewed by a committee of experts.

7. In order to mitigate inconvenience faced by small dealers and manufacturers, it has been decided that taxpayers having annual aggregate turnover up to Rs 1.5 crores shall not be required to pay GST at the time of receipt of advances on account of supply of goods. The GST on such supplies will be payable only when the supply of goods is made.

8. In order to remove the hardship being faced by small unregistered businesses, the services provided by a Goods Transport Agencies (GTA) to an unregistered person will be exempted from GST.

Other Facilitation Measures
9. After assessing the readiness of the trade, industry and Government departments, it has been decided that registration and operationalisation of TDS/TCS provisions will be postponed till March 31, 2018.

10. In order to give trade and industry more time to accustom itself with the GST regime, the e-way bill system will be introduced in a staggered manner with effect from January 01, 2018 and then will be rolled out nationwide with effect from April 01, 2018.

11. The last date for filing the return in FORM GSTR-4 by a taxpayer under composition scheme for the quarter July-September, 2017 will be extended to November 15, 2017. Also, the last date for filing the return in FORM GSTR-6 by an input service distributor for the months of July, August and September, 2017 will be extended to November 15, 2017.

12. Invoice Rules are being modified to provide relief to certain classes of registered persons.

India vs USA football match live: Watch FIFA U-17 World Cup online, on TV

The big day is here. As of now, the biggest day in the history of football in India. Yes, the congratulatory messages have been poured from all quarters and prayers conducted by the family members of all players.

The action now transcends to the football pitch. The renovated Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi hosts the biggest match of the FIFA Under 17 World Cup 2017 on Friday between hosts India and United States of America (USA).

The phrase “India is playing in a FIFA World Cup” gives you an absolute surreal feeling. Yes, it’s happening.

The tactics are given out clear

Can Luis Norton de Matos’ boys do what they’ve been told against the USA? Zonal marking has been stressed upon and not conceding remains the primary aim. Even a single goal in the match from the India U-17 football team has the power to create a huge noise from the crowd at the JLN Stadium.

The players have stepped up

Boris Singh, the highly-rated full-back in the Indian team, misses out of the match owing to suspension. He earned a red card in an AFC U-16 Championship group game against Saudi Arabia last year.

That said, the likes of defenders Anwar Ali (not the former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal player) and Sanjeev Stalin are ready to fight and thwart any attack from the opposition. The partnership of skipper Amarjit Singh and his cousin Jeakson Singh, in the heart of midfield, too remains one to watch out for.

Indian U17 Football Team
India U17 Football Team

Lone striker Aniket Jadhav, has been entrusted with the duties of making the crowd erupt every time he is running with the ball in the opposition’s six yard box.

The blessings of Jose Mourinho is upon the India U17 team

The match is being tipped to be a classic attack vs defence battle. Norton de Matos and his coaching staff have followed the tactical philosophy of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho of putting more emphasis on complete defending.

The United States under 17 football team, meanwhile, coached by John Hackworth, are putting onus on the terrific front-three of Josh Sargent, Ayo Akinola and Timothy Weah to completely destroy the Indian defence.

Drinking Black Tea May Help With Weight Loss

Drinking Black Tea May Help With Weight Loss

You’ve already heard that green tea may help you shed pounds. But now, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) researchers have found that black tea might help promote weight loss, too.

For the study, which was recently published in the European Journal of Nutrition, the researchers fed four groups of mice different diets for one month:

  • Low-fat and high-sugar
  • High-fat and high-sugar
  • High-fat and high sugar with green tea extract
  • High-fat and high sugar with black tea extract

After measuring the rodents’ fat, gut bacteria, and liver tissues, they found that both of the tea groups on a high-fat diet lost a similar amount of weight compared to the mice eating less fat, or fewer calories overall.

That’s because green and black teas are abundant in polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that has been shown to improve your heart health and play a role in weight loss. But the way these antioxidants travel through your body differs in black tea compared to green tea, the study authors note.

Polyphenols in green tea are easily absorbed into your blood. Past research suggests this can help you shed pounds by altering your liver’s metabolism. The polyphenols in black tea, however, work through your intestines, since they’re too big to be absorbed into your bloodstream, the study authors note. Here, they help bolster good-for-you bacteria in your gut, which can help keep your metabolism running efficiently.

The study found that both types of tea can positively affect gut bacteria, but only black tea led to an increase in a type of bacteria called Pseudobutyrivibrio and short-chain fatty acids in the mice, which potentially explains how it could impact your metabolism differently than green tea.

And while the study was done in mice, the researchers believe the results could apply to humans, too.

“Our new findings suggest that black tea, through a specific mechanism through the gut microbiome, may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans,” Susanne Henning, Ph.D., R.D., lead study author and adjunct professor at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition stated in a press release. “The results suggest that both green and black teas are prebiotics, substances that induce the growth of good microorganisms that contribute to a person’s well-being.”

Important note: Drinking any kind of tea won’t magically melt away fat all on its own. To really rev your metabolism, make sure your incorporate intense muscle-building workouts into your routine, too. 😛

Nagpur: SpiceJet may use seaplanes for flying on regional routes

Nagpur SpiceJet may use seaplanes for flying on regional routes

NEW DELHI: Seaplanes may soon be used for air travel in India as low budget airline SpiceJet on Wednesday said that it is exploring possibilities of using seaplanes/amphibian planes for air travel under the regional air connectivity scheme. The low-cost air carrier said that it is looking at ordering small ten and fourteen seater amphibious aircrafts from Japanese aircraft maker Tsuneishi Group for providing air connectivity to the remotest parts of the country. The advantage of amphibious planes over regular aircrafts is that they can take off from both land and water bodies and therefore, they can connect small cities where airstrips are not ready.

Don’t Miss : Work Begins at Wardha Dry Port.

Sources said that the deal between SpiceJet and the Japanese firm may be finalised in 6-12 months and the Northeast will be among the first places to get this new small plane service.

SpiceJet said it has already conducted trials of the seaplanes in Nagpur and Guwahati.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the airline said, “In a groundbreaking initiative – the first by a major Indian airline – SpiceJet is exploring the introduction of smaller fixed-wing aircraft to provide air connectivity to places which have hitherto remained unconnected due to infrastructural challenges… Reliable, tough and resilient these smaller fixed-wing aircraft can land on water bodies, gravel and grass.”

SpiceJet chairman Ajay Singh said, “While India is one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, only about 3% Indians travel by air. Infrastructural challenges have been a key deterrent for providing air connectivity to smaller towns and cities… With the ability of land in small and confined space, smaller wing aircraft are the perfect flying machines that can effectively connect the country’s remote cities and airstrips”
Japan’s Setouchi Holdings Inc., a pioneer in the small aircraft aviation industry, is a part of the Tsuneishi Group of Hiroshima Prefecture. Setouchi Holding owns QUEST, the manufacturer of specialized amphibious and non-amphibious range of aircrafts globally. The statement issued by the airline also quoted Go Okazaki, executive MD of Setouchi Holdings, who said, “We have already executed land plane demonstrations in Nagpur and Guwahati. As a next step, we would also like to go for seaplane demonstrations soon.”

UIDAI, Flipkart, Idea among 6,000 Indian organisations reportedly affected by data breach

UIDAI, Flipkart, Idea among 6,000 Indian organisations reportedly affected by data breach

A data breach that could potentially affect over 6,000 Indian organisations including the Unique Identification Authority of India, Reserve Bank of India, Bombay Stock Exchange and Flipkart, has been addressed by the arm of the government responsible for handling the registry that was allegedly compromised.

A cybersecurity firm in Pune, along with its partner, had said on Friday that it had tracked an advertisement on the DarkNet offering access to the servers and database dump of over 6,000 Indian businesses.

“Following a detailed research, the team identified the affected organization as India’s National Internet Registry: IRINN (Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers) which comes under NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India),” said Rohit Srivastwa, of Seqrite’s Cyber Intelligence Labs in a blogpost published last week.

However, Seqrite’s Cyber Intelligence Labs have notified appropriate agencies in the Government and have got an acknowledgement that the issue has been taken care of.

Hopefully this will not lead to any disruption. Proactive monitoring and reporting in any such case can always avert major damages.

The DarkNet can be understood as a digital underworld that is inaccessible to most and where illicit marketplaces exist for things such as stolen identity information.

The teams at seQtree and Seqrite had contacted the dealer offering the Indian entities’ details, posing as an interested buyer, and obtained a sample of the information the dealer had.

In the sample, the team found email addresses of a prominent Indian technology firm and another email address was from Indian government, with a total of about 6,000 emails.

The dealer also shared screenshots of the compromised registry which the cybersecurity firms’ team established to be IRINN.

Among the companies whose emails they found were Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Indian Space Research Organisation, Mastercard/Visa, Spectranet, Hathway, IDBI Bank and EY.

The dealer could have had access to usernames, email ids, passwords, organisation name, invoices and billing documents, and few more important fields, and could have potentially shut down an entire organisation.

This person or entity was offering this database for 15 bitcoins, which amounts to about Rs 42 lakh.

Amazon set to hike Prime membership to Rs 999 from 499

Amazon set to hike Prime membership to Rs 999 from 499

BENGALURU: Amazon India is days away from doubling the price for its popular Prime membership service Prime in India to Rs 999 per year. Earlier in July last year, the e-commerce major had launched Prime in India at an introductory price of Rs 499. Since then, the company has said that Prime has been its top selling product during major sale events. Even after the price increase in Prime subscription here, it will be significantly cheaper than Prime subscription price in US– at least by Rs 6,000 a year.

Industry experts say they will watch how Indian consumers react to the price hike and if it would have an impact on Prime membership renewals. Akshay Sahi, head of Amazon Prime in India, does feels the pricing will not have an impact on the purchase of the subscription service. “We started with about 1.3 million products eligible for Prime shipments and that has been scaled up to over 11 million products now. We are going to come up with price update for Prime and we will continue to make Prime even more attractive,'” he said.
According to Amazon, Prime subscribers typically buy more than non-Prime users, and the local arm of the Seattle-based internet behemoth has been focusing on growing this group of customers.

For Amazon, one out of three orders placed on its platform is from Prime subscriber and their purchasing power sees an uptick during the festive season and major sale events. Amazon had launched its content platform in December last year and executives told TOI that the launch of video platform had resulted in doubling the base of Prime subscribers in India.

RBI to issue new Rs 100 note coming in April, claims reports

RBI

You could be getting new Rs 100 note around April next year. The RBI, according to reports, is expected to start printing new designs of the currency notes around that time.

The RBI, reports add, will move on to the new design after it wraps up the printing of Rs 200 notes.

Some banks have even asked the ATM companies to begin testing the Rs 200 note for recalibration of the machines, though they have not got supplies of the new currency. Only last year, the banks were involved in recalibration of ATM machines after the demonetisation of high-value currency notes in November.

Also Check: Amazon set to hike Prime membership to Rs 999 from 499

The central bank launched the bright yellow Rs 200 notes in August.

The new notes are likely to bear the same dimension and size to avoid re-calibration of ATMs, said a report in Times Now. Out of the four cassettes, only one is used for dispensing Rs 100 notes in ATMs.

As per the report, the exercise of pumping the Rs 200 notes into the system is likely to take around another six months.

Prior to the introduction on the new notes, India has currency denominations of Rs 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 2000.

As such, in the lower end of the denomination series, Rs 200 has been the missing link. The RBI had recently introduced Rs 50 note with a new look and additional security features.

Work Begins at Wardha Dry Port

Wardha: The Wardha Dry Port is being developed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in a bid to cater effective logistics services to the industries in Vidarbha region and improve cargo throughput at the Port.

The proposed Wardha Dry Port is to be constructed over an area of 350 acres in phased development with a total estimated investment of Rs 500 Crore. The Phase-I would involve development of around 25 Ha of the total area, with an estimated cost of Rs.180 Crores (including private investment of Rs. 79 Crore).

Work Begins at Wardha Dry Port

The proposed dry port is estimated to generate traffic of almost 7,000-9,000 TEUs in next 5-7 years. The site is strategically located around the Industrial belt of Nagpur & Wardha and is well connected to the other industrial regions in Vidarbha. The dry port would benefit the rice exporters, textile and garments industry, steel and minerals traders, scrap trade, plastics and paper pulp, electrical machinery, automotive parts manufacturers etc. located in the region.

Raipur: Aditya Narayan, son of Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan who was on Sunday seen carrying excess baggage of 40 kg on 6E-258, a Raipur-Mumbai IndiGo flight, declined to pay a sum of Rs 13,000 for his extra luggage.

Aditya was travelling with five other people.

When asked to pay an amount of Rs 13,000, Aditya refused. He said he would only pay Rs 10,000 and went on to use abusive language with a female staff from the airline company.

The young playback singer turned Bollywood actor pointed a finger at the Duty Manager who was making a video of the incident and used cuss words. Aditya shouted even louder when he was asked to behave in a civil fashion.

Later, on being informed by IndiGo officials that continued misbehaviour will entitle him to a travel ban, Aditya stopped and apologised to the ground staff.

The singer-cum-actor was then given his boarding pass.

The Airport officials themselves issued a statement after the video gained a lot of traction.

Today on 6E-258 (Raipur-Mumbai), Mr Aditya Narayan, travelling with a group of 5 people, was carrying excess baggage of 40 kgs. The amount to be paid for the carriage of excess baggage came to 13000 INR. He refused to pay this amount to the female check in staff member and said that he will not pay more than 10000 INR for the excess baggage and also used unparliamentary language with the female staff member.

While making a video, he pointed a finger at the Duty Manager and again used profanity. When politely asked to be civil and not use such language as there were other passengers and female staff members present, he started shouting even louder and used abusive words which we are refraining from mentioning here.

He was informed that if he continues to misbehave he will not be allowed to travel.

Later, passenger Mr Narayan apologised to the ground staff and thereafter was given the boarding cards.
