In the past four years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Government in Maharashtra has delivered an excellent performance in every sector, said Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister. In an informal interaction with mediapersons at Ramgiri bungalow here on Saturday, he said that his Government had completed 118 irrigation projects, and had also doubled the annual average expenditure on agriculture.

Fadnavis circulated to media persons a 45-page note containing details of his Government’s performance in various sectors in four years, and comparison with the 15-year rule of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led Democratic Front (DF) Government. The main feature of the Government functioning in these four years has been ‘honesty and transparency’, stated the note.

As per the note, of 118 irrigation projects completed in four years, gorge-filling was done in 88 projects. As a result, the irrigation potential increased from 32 lakh hectares in 2014 to 40.58 lakh hectares in 2017.

Since the Government headed by Fadnavis took over, 27 per cent of the tenders pertaining to irrigation projects were awarded at Government rate, and 62 per cent at lesser than estimated rate. This resulted in the Government saving Rs 254 crore. Also, as part of the effort to cleanse the system, the Government cancelled 94 tenders collectively worth Rs 7,335 crore. In 113 cases, chargesheets were filed against the officers concerned, and action was ordered in 68 cases.

Till 2013-14, the actual irrigation from Gosikhurd project was 8,449 hectares only. Between 2014-15 and 2017-18, the actual irrigation from the project increased manifold to 47,557 hectares. Asked about extension of deadline for completion of Gosikhurd national project from 2019 to 2022, the Chief Minister said that all major works would be completed by 2019 and remaining components would be completed by 2022.

Niharika Singh Shares Her #MeToo Story, Calls Nawazuddin Sexually Repressed Toxic Indian Man

Niharika singh & Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Mumbai : Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s biography titled An Ordinary Life: A Memoir was caught in controversies after he revealed that he was in a romantic relationship with his Miss Lovely co-star Niharika Singh. At that time, Niharika said that the book was published without her knowledge. The book was later withdrawn from the stalls.

A year later, the former Miss India has written an open letter sharing her side of the story with Nawaz.

Sharing Niharika’s post on Twitter, author Sandhya Menon writes, “2005 Miss India Niharika Singh’s experiences in Bollywood but especially with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mayank Singh Singvi. Niharika and other women accused Siddiqui of making up lies in his autobiography, due to which he withdrew the book. This is her side of the story.”

The post further reads, “Nowaz(Nawaz) had engaged multiple women, giving each one a different story; one of them even called me from his phone and started yelling at me. I also found about out about a woman he’d married in Haldwani whose family sued him for making dowry demands. I told him to clean up his mess, be honest with himself and everyone around him.”

Niharika adds, “He was apologetic for his past behaviour, told me he’d worked on issues, dissolved his first marriage and married second time.”

The post says that Nawaz separated from his second wife and was deeply upset.

Niharika accounts that a year later, Nawaz contacted her for a small role in Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s film ‘Anwar Ka Ajib Quissa”. Gladly accepting the offer she went to Shimultata to shoot for her part. “He tried to re-engage me sexually, begging me to be with him but I refused, saying I was happy to be his friend and nothing else.”

Later, she says she broke all contacts with him and maintained distance.

Calling Nawaz prejudiced over caste, she wrote, “Nawaz being an aspirational, sexually repressed Indian man whose toxic male entitlement grew with his success is hardly surprising. What is interesting to note that despite not identifying as a Hindu, he carries deep caste prejudices since he chose to protect the honour of his ‘Brahmin’ wife after their names came in CDR scam, while he felt very comfortable painting me as a seductress wearing faux fur in his book, who he could sexually exploit, for public imagination.”

Discovery to premiere ‘Kerala Floods – The Human Story’, a documentary celebrating Kerala’s Spirit of Survival

Kerala Floods

The one-hour special documentary Kerala Floods – The Human Story on Discovery Channel is a poignant take on the indomitable spirit of Kerala who instead of losing hope, are steadily working towards rebuilding their beloved state. The documentary is a celebration of the spirit of survival in the face of disaster; viewers will get to witness incredible stories of people coming together to help those in need – from fishermen turned rescue operators to the defence forces who provided aid, from actors who worked alongside NGO workers to get supplies to those in need to young entrepreneurs who devised ways to connect people at a time when the apocalyptic rain fury just refused to die. The documentary also features the story of Sajitha Jabil who was just three days away from her due date, her labour pains had intensified, and water levels were still rising. She was airlifted in one of the most dramatic rescues of Indian Navy’s Operation Madad. By the afternoon, baby Subhan was in her arms unaware of the many storms his mother braved to bring him into this world. This one-hour special documentary will be broadcast on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 9 PM, only on Discovery Channel.

It all began on Independence Day this year, when Kerala started experiencing an extremely heavy downpour. Little did the inhabitants of the state know that soon they were going to witness the worst deluge Kerala had seen in almost a century. In over eleven straight days of intense rainfall nearly 25 trillion litres of water fell on Kerala—a state with one of the highest density of population, 44 rivers and 61 dams. Water is a lifeline, defining not just Kerala’s geography but its history and economics as well. The watery abundance gives it life and sustenance. The biggest flood in almost a century devastated most of the state. God’s own country will need to rebuild 218 bridges, nearly 35,000 kilometres of local roads, an estimated 174,000 houses. Agriculture crops in over 46,000 hectares was destroyed. The loss because of the floods has been estimated at INR 40,000 crores.

Highlighting the importance of this documentary, Zulfia Waris, Vice-President & Head, Premium & Digital Networks, Discovery Communications India, said, “What Kerala witnessed this year is a disaster of unimaginable magnitude. But like any news cycle, there’s always something else that takes precedence and yesterday’s headlines lay forgotten. The idea of presenting the documentary, ‘Kerala Floods – The Human Story’, is to draw attention to the hundreds of people who are working tirelessly to rebuild Kerala. Through stories about surprising strength of character in times of disaster and hope in the face of abject loss, ‘Kerala Floods’ aims to tell the story of a Kerala that refuses to be defined by devastation. Everyone saw the destruction of Kerala, it is now time they get to see the efforts that are being made to rebuild it, one brick at a time.”

Kerala Floods, which will be showcased on Discovery Channel on Monday 12th November 2018 at 9:00 pm will take viewers through inspiring stories of people of Kerala who refuse to lose hope and are working tirelessly to piece back everything that was lost.

NIT gets back 20.61 acre Wathoda land

NIT

Nagpur : After a 30-year long chequered legal battle which came to an end before the Supreme Court, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) received a prime 20.61 acre land at Wathoda. The land was part of 44.61 acre plot acquired for drainage and sewerage scheme way back on November 27, 1953. Now, the NIT is planning to use this huge tract for affordable housing project.

Later this land turned out to be surplus and NIT decided to return it to original land owner Sheela Tikhe in 1968 on payment of premium. However, only 24 acre land was returned since land owner had failed to deposit the prescribed amount. This led to a bitter litigation between land owner and trust and travelled from civil court right upto Apex Court which ruled in favour of NIT and upheld legality of its action. The land, once barren fetching very little price, now has become a preferred destination of East Nagpur and commands premium.

The NIT had acquired entire stretch of 44.61 acre for its Drainage and Sewerage Scheme PartII. The award was passed on December 31, 1962 and NIT took possession after disbursing compensation of Rs.23,500. Since, the land was not required, the NIT the exercising its powers under Land Disposal Rules, 1955, decided to dispose of entire land to Tikhe by charging the premium and ground rent. The NIT invited application for re-allotment of 44.61 acre land on lease and original land-owner filed an application on September 3, 1975. However, she objected to pay 1.5 times of the amount received under land acquisition and revise the amount. Besides, there was a stipulation to use entire land only for Agriculture purposes and entire amount was to be paid in 10 installments.

Nagpur youths giving shape to Falcon-2000 business jet of Dassault

Nagpur: Amidst the raging controversy engulfing the country, the French company Dassault Aviation has commercial production of Falcon-2000 business jet jointly with Reliance Aerospace Limited at MIHAN in Nagpur. The cockpit of this 10-seater business class jet has already been assembled along with landing gear and other parts in the first phase. Significantly, Nagpur youths are giving shape to the sophisticated jet. A group of 15 IIT technicians from city has been assigned the job of assembling the vital parts of the business jet. The time limit for rollout of completely assembled jet at Nagpur has been fixed for the year 2021. The fully operational business jet will fly to France from Nagpur Airport.

The French Company Dassault Aviation has joined with Anil Ambani’s Reliance Aerospace Ltd. The joint venture company — Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL) – has set up its unit Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park in MIHAN-SEZ. The project is spread over 26 hectares of land. In the first phase, the DRAL is assembling cockpit along with landing gear and other parts.

MIHAN PRO Deepak Joshi said a team of 50 experts including five engineers and 30 local technicians are working in this project. A team of 12 French officials are providing technical expertise to the local team. The five engineers working under this French team belonged to Nagpur who were sent to France for six-month training in Dassault Aviation. The DRAL had started manufacturing work at its unit from June 2018. Expansion of the project would provide jobs to many engineers. The unit set up at the MIHAN SEZ in Nagpur is part of Reliance Aerospace Park which is coming up on in an area of 106 acres.

At this Park, the DRAL project is on 56 acre land. In the beginning, production of Falcon jet cockpit and spare parts has commenced. The production of entire Falcon business jet will be done in three years and that of Rafale fighter jet in five years at Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park. India is purchasing 36 Rafale fighter jets worth Rs 60,000 crore. As the offset obligation connected to the purchase of 36 Rafale fighters from France, signed between the two Governments in September 2016, Dassault Aviation has to invest 50 percent of the cost in India. Under this obligation, the Dassault Reliance Aerospace Ltd has commenced the project at MIHAN SEZ.
