Only 81 kids vaccinated on first day in Nagpur

Covid vaccine

Nagpur: The first day of the much-awaited vaccination for kids aged 12 to 14 turned out to be a low-key affair across Nagpur City. As far as Vidarbha is concerned, many districts are yet to start vaccination for kids.

In Nagpur City, only 81 children took the Corbevax jab even as health authorities had made all arrangements. In the remaining part of Nagpur district, only 107 children, including 100 from Saoner alone, took the jab. Health workers at most centres made a futile wait for children throughout the day.

Parents cited reasons like examination time, temperature is too high, and let vaccines come through schools for not taking their kids to the centres. Many of the parents complained that proper publicity for vaccination of this segment was not done. Some parents said they have decided to wait as they want to see the initial reaction of Corbevax, which is a new vaccine introduced exclusively for this age group.

Earlier, when the NMC’s elected body was not dissolved, the Mayor and Corporators used to organize a grand public function at some of the vaccination centres which saw good footfall. As NMC is now run by the Administrator, this public function was a major miss.

Parents are also waiting for schools to deliver vaccines. One of the parents said that she is sure NMC will deliver vaccines through schools soon. It would be proper and convenient. So, we will wait for some more days and get vaccines in schools only.

Interestingly, no government hospital except AIIMS has a centre for administering this vaccine. Only six children got vaccines at AIIMS. Vaccination of kids is important and it will pick-up soon. There is no need to be disappointed after a lackluster response on the first day. Corbevax has proven its safety and efficacy. There is absolutely no need to hesitate. Parents should ensure that kids get vaccines as early as possible, said Dr Pradeep Deshmukh, Head of Community Medicine Department of AIIMS Nagpur.

Greed for easy money: Nagpur rocked by Rs 100 crore crypto currency rackets!

Cops proposing to invoke MCOCA against the mastermind Nished Wasnik and  other Crypto scamsters

crypto

Nagpur: The Second Capital of Maharashtra was rocked by Rs 100 crore crypto scams recently. The scamsters trapped the investors with lure of high returns and pocketed the whopping money for luxurious lifestyle, media reports said.

Following a flood of complaints by the duped investors, the case was handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Nagpur Police.

The EOW on February 19 made the first arrests in the scam. Four people were nabbed from Pune for allegedly duping 2,000 investors to the tune of Rs 40 crore in a crypto-currency fraud. The accused Nishid Wasnik, his wife Pragati, Gajanan Mungune and Sandesh Lanjewar were arrested after being on the run for over a year. Cops seized a pistol, seven live cartridges, four luxury cars worth Rs 1 crore, Rs 18.91 lakh cash, eight cell phones and a laptop. They were held from Pangoli near Lonavala in Pune. The accused Nishid, Sandesh and Gajanan were also accused of gunning down a person in Washim after abducting him from Nagpur last year, according to reports and police.

According to reports, subsequently, the number of arrests in the Rs 40 crore crypto-currency racket in the Second Capital reached 11, a day after the main accused, his wife and two associates were held from Lonavala in Pune. The mastermind accused Nishid Wasnik used to flaunt his luxurious lifestyle to get people to invest in a firm that he claimed was dealing in ‘ether’ crypto-currency, reports said, adding he manipulated the website of the firm to show a steady rise in the value of investments, while transferring money into his accounts fraudulently between 2017 and 2021. He had even organised a seminar on crypto-currency investment in Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh.

The reports further said that around 300 victim investors, duped of Rs 8 crore, came forward to lodge complaints. However, hundreds of others preferred to stay anonymous for reasons better known to them.

The main accused and mastermind Nishid Wasnik, a class 12 pass out, who operated this crypto racket, had support from his niece, who is an MBA graduate and helped Wasnik carry out this huge crypto scam. The accused, along with wife, used to flaunt his luxurious lifestyle. They stayed in high-end hotels and penthouses. Nishid used to spend lakhs of rupees on models. All these dirty deeds came under the radar of the police.

According to reports and police, this crypto scam is not the sole crime committed by prime accused Wasnik. He had several cases against him, including two murders. He is also wanted in a murder case of his close aide in Washim last year, following a dispute. As per sources, Wasnik had purchased several properties with the fraud amount. In the past, he was booked in another case of fraud at Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station.

Seminars in posh hotels:

The accused Nished Wasnik and his gang used to hold seminars in posh hotels. The investors were being taken to foreign tours including to Thailand, Singapore etc. The big investors were always entertained in every way.

Another Rs 67.59 lakh crypto, Forex trade scam:

On the lines of Nished Wasnik fraud, Nagpur’s Pachpaoli Police recently busted a Rs 67.59 lakh crypto-currency and Forex trade scam. Cops have booked four persons, including one from Gujarat, for allegedly defrauding a middle-aged man to the tune of Rs 67.59 lakh by promising huge profit. The accused have been identified as Ashok Ambadas Lande (49), a resident of Plot No 202, Chetak Apartment, Mangal Sevalal Tiwari (42), a resident of Plot No 48, Ambar Colony, Dabha; Dharmesh Jayantibhai Patel (36), a resident of Plot No 226, Goregaon Dongri, Gujarat; and Roshan Satish Rathod (40), a resident of Plot No 248, Godhan Nagar, Hilltop.

The accused Lande and Tiwari have been in the dubious business for the past five years. A case was registered against the duo in 2019 too. In another case, the accused pretended to be the victims and thus had misled the police.

Cops to invoke MCOCA against scamsters

Talking to Nagpur Today, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Akshay Shinde said that the Crime Branch, which is now investigating the scams, has prepared a proposal to invoke Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the crypto currency scamster Nishedh Wasnik and other accused including his father Mahadevrao Wasnik, wife Pragati Wasnik, Sandesh Lanjewar, Gajanan Mungne, Lalit Sanjay Naik, Deepak Tulsiram Naik, Sachin Roopchand Wasnik, Ramu alias Sonu Hiraman Vanve, Diksha Sandesh Lanjewar, Rajendra Khobragade and Kalpana Gajanan Mungne. All these  accused were arrested by the Economic Offence Wing (EoW ) of Nagpur police.

Huge land of scamsters unearthed:

According to the DCP Shinde, police have unearthed huge agricultural land in Nagpur district bought by scamster Nishedh Wasnik. The investigators are suspecting that the money of gullible investors was diverted to purchase the land by Wasnik.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Akshay Shinde, the property details were with the police and further action would be initiated soon. Cops are contemplating to mortgage the land and the money raised could be returned to the duped investor. The police are also busy in the valuation of five cars that were seized from Wasnik.

Nagpur ranks 2nd in the list of Railway Stations with most online food orders

railway food

Nagpur: Apart from the famous oranges, Nagpur Railway Station has emerged as the second most preferred station for passengers for satiating their taste buds with their favourite food online while travelling on a train. While you must be of the opinion that big railway stations like Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai must be witnessing the most number of online food orders, you would be surprised to know that the highest numbers of online orders are received at the Itarsi Junction.

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation(IRCTC) delivers online food to thousands of passengers on a daily basis.

According to reports, the Itarsi junction in Madhya Pradesh has stood on top offering online food to 18,000 passengers in February this year. Itarsi was followed by Nagpur with 17,000 food orders and Bhopal with 16,000 orders in February. After crossing Itarsi, the trains move towards Nagpur in the south, Allahabad towards the east and Jhansi towards the north. Since it takes more than six hours for a train to reach these stations except Nagpur, Itarsi receives the maximum online food delivery orders.

The fourth Railway Station is Vijaywada which supplied 15,800 food orders and Surat comes fifth with 14,800 food orders supplied every month. The sixth Station that supplied 12,200 food orders is Bhusawal followed by Ratlam 12,000, Baroda 11,700, Jhansi 11,400 and Ahmedabad is tenth Station with 11,000 food orders every month.

The Nagpur Railway Station ranks among one of the busiest railway stations in the country witnessing traffic of around 160 trains on a daily basis. The average stoppage of a train at the station is 10 minutes which results in a convenient food delivery experience for passengers.

While the Indian Railways offer the facility of pantry cars in trains for food and beverages on the go, passengers can also order their preferred food online during the journey. For this, IRCTC has collaborated with a range of hotels and restaurants across different cities in the country. The entire list of restaurants and food outlets is available on the application and portal of IRCTC.

After making an online order, travellers are provided with the food as soon as they reach the railway station where the restaurant is located. The Itarsi junction has 17 food outlets that offer meals to railway passengers.

Located at the centre of India, Nagpur Railway Station enjoys the privilege of being the Divisional Headquarters for the Central Railway and South East Central Railways Zones — a rare and significant position for being the headquarters of two different divisions of the Indian Railways. A total of 1.5 lakh passengers commute via a total of 160 trains that either board or leave Nagpur Railway Station. Passengers at the Nagpur Railway Station have the facility to be delivered some amazing food by IRCTC.

Mother donates her kidney to save 9-year old son..

kidney donate

Nagpur: A mother donates her one kidney and saved the life of her 9-year old dear son. In a first, the boy — Devansh Bonde — became the youngest recipient of a kidney in Vidarbha, according to media reports.

In a way, Devansh was lucky to get a match with his mother, who donated one of her kidneys. Devansh’s is a story beyond a kidney transplant. He is an example of what medical expertise combined with human compassion can do.

According to reports, in December 2021, Devansh started experiencing weakness, headache, appetite loss and vomiting. His parents took him to Dr Kuldeep Sukhdeve, senior paediatrician at Kingsway Hospitals. After investigation, Dr Sukhdeve informed the parents about their child’s high blood pressure. It turned out to be a case of permanent kidney damage. There were two options — either life-long dialysis or kidney transplant. Doctors, later, realised kidney transplant was the better option. Fortunately, Devansh found a match in his parent’s kidney.Mother donates kidney won over the dilemma.

However, when the hospital was preparing itself to perform kidney transplant, Devansh tested positive for Covid-19, delaying the procedure. A person can undergo any surgical procedure only after one month after recovering from the novel coronavirus infection. After due approval from the authorities concerned, the transplant was carried out, and it was a successful procedure. After the transplant, Devansh showed significant progress and gained appetite that helped him overcome weakness, reports added.

According to an expert, the transplant was nothing less than a journey, which had much to its narrative. The child is 9-year old, so it began with taking him into confidence. And what started with introducing him to some art or drawing, eventually led him to reveal that he loved to play Chess! “So, I started playing Chess with him,” said his nephrologist Dr Shivnarayan Acharya. “It was a pleasure to lose to him in the game of Chess,” said Dr Acharya. The patient was under observation of a group of doctors at Kingsway Hospitals.

Paediatrician Dr Kuldeep Sukhdeve, paediatric surgeon Dr Deepak Goyal, nephrologists Dr Shivnarayan Acharya, Dr Vishal Ramteke and Dr Prakash Khetan, transplant surgeons Dr Vasudeo Ridhorkar, Dr Dhananjay Bokare and Dr Sachin Kuthe carried out the challenging task of transplant surgery. Dr Chandrashekhar Cham led a team of anaesthesiologists with a team of OT nurses. The dialysis technicians, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit staff, Transplant ICCU and ward staff provided assistance for pre and post-operative management, resulting in the success of the transplant.

A case of Congenital Kidney Dysplastic:
When asked about the reason for kidney failure in a young person like Devansh Bonde, Dr S J Acharya, Nephrologist said that the boy was suffering from Congenital Kidney Dysplastic. This is not a very common disease. In some cases, the internal structure of the kidney of the fetus does not develop when in the womb. After birth, the kidneys in such children function for the time being and then stop. This boy, too, was suffering from Congenital Kidney Dysplastic. Transplant was the only solution. Earlier, such cases were referred to Mumbai, he added.

Nagpur: The evergreen song reverberated at every nook and corner as thousands of Nagpurians celebrated Holi in high-pitched note in Orange City on Friday. This year the Festival of Colours – a token of social harmony and togetherness — was celebrated amid a sharp dip in Covid-19 cases and without restrictions. The day was also marked with sumptuous feasts and dancing. On the eve of the festival, people also lighted large bonfires to symbolise Holika Dahan the triumph of good over evil.

Last year, the Distriuct Administration had banned large gatherings on Holi as Covid cases soared across the country. Infections have since come down drastically and restrictions have been eased everywhere.Elated revellers celebrated Dhulivandan – Holi –in all its glory. People were elated the pandemic hasn’t spoilt their Holi plans this year.

As the moment of colours drew, the enthusiasts in large numbers started thronging every nook and corner in the city. Kids, armed with an array of different pichkaris, pumped colours and even plane water on each other.

Bura Na Mano Holi Hai was the buzzword. The Pichkaris that could turn the kids crazy with

However, Holi celebrations were under the watchful eyes of police.  Nagpur: The last two years have reinforced the importance of good health and immunity, which is essential not just now but in the longer-term for both seasonal infections and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). NCD prevalence in India is rising at an alarming rate, with morbidity increasing by 83% in the last three decades.Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, respiratory diseases and diabetes form the leading NCDs affecting Indians, associated with the highest mortality rates. Two thirds of Indians affected by NCDs fall in the most productive age group (26 to 59 years), as per a 2021 ASSOCHAM report.Of these, diabetes and hypertension have particularly high associated burdens, with a prevalence of 2.9% and 3.6% respectively, across India.

Alongside good diet and nutrition to enable better NCD management, there is a clear need for self-care solutions to maintain optimal health. While a healthy, balanced diet is essential for good nutrition, the country’s nutritional consumption is inadequate on its own, with people’s existing diets contributing to malnutrition and rising NCD incidence.Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) remains an essential micronutrient in humans, playing a crucial role in supporting various aspects of the immune system. As a powerful antioxidant, it also strengthens the body’s natural defences.

Dr. Rajendra. M. Chandak, Orthopaedician, Nagpur commented, “Vitamin C is an essential nutrient to boost immunity. It is observed that patients with common NCDs, like diabetes and hypertension, require more vitamin C than others, owing to the high oxidative stress seen in these patients. Specifically, patients with diabetes have 30% lower vitamin C concentrations than non-diabetics. Individuals can boost their regular nutritional intake through vitamin C supplementation, in addition to a rich, balanced diet, comprising citrus foods and tomatoes.”

Dr. Parag Sheth, Director, Global Medical Affairs, Abbott commented, “Vitamin C offers impressive health benefits, such as boosting immunity and antioxidant levels. Abbott is committed to raising awareness on the importance of vitamin C, thereby encouraging adequate daily intake, which can benefit immunity and promotes overall health and well-being. By providing trusted, quality solutions to meet specific local needs, we aim to help people benefit from good health and live better, fuller lives.”

Vitamin C deficiency has been observed across the country, with an estimated 74% and 46% prevalence amongst adults of North India and South India respectively. The deficiency is commonly observed in people suffering from NCDs, resulting in lower immunity levels to manage their conditions. Common risk factors for vitamin C deficiency include increased age (specifically the geriatric population), malnutrition, exposure to pollution or pollutants like smoke, biomass fuels and high tobacco usage, many of which commonly affect Indians.

Vitamin C also plays a role in alleviating seasonal infections, like cold and flu, during the winter season especially in people suffering from NCDs. In cardiovascular diseases or hypertension patients, the nutrient can protect end organ damage and improve vascular endothelial function, which helps regulate blood clotting.

To ensure adequate intake of the micronutrient and benefit from its positive outcomes on one’s overall health, vitamin C supplementation can be beneficial.

GMC teachers on strike, residents having exams working additional hours

GMC

Nagpur: Professors and assistant professors in the government medical colleges (GMC) across the state, who are attached to maharaste state medical teacher associaton (MSMTA), stopped their services in OPDs and other non-emergency departments on Monday from 11am.

Both the government medical colleges in Nagpur — GMCH and IGGMCH — deployed about 480 resident doctors in additional shifts so that patients should not suffer. Resident doctors, who are already overburdened and suffering from academic losses due to the agitation of medical teachers, said they will be the worst sufferers in case this strike stretches more.

During TOI’s visit to GMC on Monday, resident doctors were present in OPDs. As a result, there was hardly any inconvenience for common patients who visited OPDs. But many elective surgeries, specialty and super specialty procedures could not be held in this medical college.

Sources said 42 surgeries were conducted on Monday as against 65-70 on any other weekday. Of them, 25 were emergency surgeries. Monday’s OPD count was 2,500 in GMC which is almost normal for any weekday. Total 135 patients were admitted in IPD.

In IGGMCH, only 4 emergency surgeries were conducted on Monday as against 65-70 on any other weekday. Of them, 25 were emergency surgeries. Monday’s OPD count was 2,500 in GMC which is almost normal for any weekday. Total 135 patients were admitted in IPD.

In IGGMCH, only 4 emergency surgeries and 4 normal deliveries were conducted. Total 1,498 patients visited the OPD, while 75 were admitted in IPD.Not a single elective surgery was conducted at the hospital on Monday.

Dr Sameer Golawar, secretary of MSMTA,said the strike was total. “We skipped OPD, IPD, routine laboratory investigations, routine radiological investigations, routine and elective surgeries on Monday. The UG teaching as well as PG teaching has already since almost a month. Administrative and admission work too has stopped,” he said, adding that they are getting cooperation from seniors, superintends and resident doctors.

Exam-bound resident doctors are burdened with additional workload due to this. Though resident doctors are supporting their teachers’ strike and no one officially complained about increased work, some of them said this will hit them badly as they are already missing their lectures due to the strike and now they will miss their examination preparation hours.

“We are already suffering from academic losses as the teachers are not conducting classes. Now, the additional workload is going to kill our exam preparation time I hope this strike ends early,” said Dr Avinash Dahiphale, president of the central committee of MARD.

The residents have already demanded that their examination should be postponed. “MUHS and state government should now consider our demand seriously. We had a meeting with the vice-chancellor today and raised the same issue,” Dr Dahiphale added.

India to begin vaccinating children aged 12 to 14 years old from March 16

covid

India will begin vaccinating children aged 12 to 14 years old on March 16 as part of an expansion of its COVID-19 immunisation programme, according to the government.

Tweeting the announcement in Hindi, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “if the children are safe then the country is safe! I am happy to inform that the COVID vaccination of children in the age group of 12 to 13 and 13 to 14 is starting from March 16. Also, everyone aged 60 years and above will now be able to get precaution doses.”

Mandaviya also urged the families of children and people in the age group of 60 years and above that they must get the vaccination done.

India began administering precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, frontline workers and those aged 60 and above with co-morbidities, from January 10 amid a spike in coronavirus infections fuelled by the Omicron variant of the virus in the country.

Co-morbidity is no longer a requirement for patients aged 60 and up to receive a prophylactic dose. Booster injections are now available to everyone in that age group. India saw a further dip in daily COVID-19 cases as 2,503 new infections were recorded, the lowest since May, 2020, while the active cases dipped to 36,168, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

With the fresh cases, the total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,29,93,494.

The death count climbed to 5,15,877 with 27 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.72 per cent, the ministry said.

A reduction of 1,901 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The number of cases is the lowest since May 4, 2020.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, measles, polio and other vaccines were out of reach for 20 million children below the age of one every year. Over 13 million children below the age of one globally did not receive any vaccines at all in 2018, many of whom live in countries with weak health systems. Given the current disruptions, this could create pathways to disastrous outbreaks in 2020 and well beyond.

As Covid cases dip, Nagpur forgets mask must mandate

covid

NAGPUR: With daily Covid cases declining to single digits, Nagpur city has almost forgotten the mandate to wear mask outdoors. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) too has curtailed its action against those violating Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB).

Visit any market or public place and a large number of citizens can be seen throwing caution to the wind by failing to wear face mask, an important protective measure against the spread of Covid-19. The overall laxity can be further gauged from the fact that in January 2022, the nuisance detection squad (NDS) of NMC caught only 1,638 citizens with out mask, though most people can be seen not wearing mask. This number further reduced to 1,229 in February, reveals the data obtained of fined citizens.

Earlier, the NDS team and city police had been clamping down on those flouting Covid norms, especially for not wearing mask.

However, now it has become common to see people venturing out without mask, or pulling it down to their as the NMC has begun to look the other way.

An NDS jawan, requesting anonymity, said now citizens start arguing if caught without mask. “They do not allow us  to penalize them,” he said.

According to civic cops, many violators give excuses that they forgot mask at home, while some bring it out from their bags when caught. It seems now the public has no fear of contracting the viral infection, said the jawan.

A  citizen, who was penalized for not wearing mask, questioned the selectiveness of the authorities in punishing commoners while turning a blind to the violations by politicians most of whom can been seen mingling in public without following the CAB.

Though the state government has granted many relaxations related to Covid pandemic ,it did not withdraw the mandate of wearing face mask while venturing out.

From September 2020 to March 3, 2022, the NDS team had caught 43,162 people who had ventured out without mask The NDS team led by its commandant Virsen Tambe has also recovered over Rs1.99 crore fine from them.

The NDS team has fined maximum number of citizens ithout mask in Dharampeth zone. Here the NDS team penalized 6,997 people, while it was followed by Laxmi Nagar zone, where the civic cops caught 6,091 citizens without mask.

Tax department reopening old tax assessments based on algorithm

tax

The income tax department has begun the process of reopening old assessments, albeit with a difference this year. Tax officials across the country are busy tracking ‘INSIGHT’, the portal that spews out the names of tax dodgers following an algorithmic scanning of a mountain of data that has been fed in.

The new rule, which came into effect from 2021-22, is simple: till the machine throws up a name, the taxman’s hands are tied – unlike before when he could slap notice to reopen a past tax assessment as long as there was some information that a slice of income in a certain year had escaped tax.

“The system has a degree of randomness. So, it’s possible that if there is evasion for four years, the system may show for one year when we know there are grounds to reopen all the years. Also, it takes a while after all the information is uploaded before a name is thrown up,” said a tax officer, who is trying to beat the March 31, 2022 deadline, after which many cases will become time-barred.

Besides awaiting a go-ahead from INSIGHT, the IT department has to follow a more elaborate process. It has to send a preliminary letter under the newly introduced section 148A of the I-T Act that the assessee’s information has been flagged for a certain assessment year.

Experts See A Silver Lining
The assessee has to be told that his information has been picked out by the Directorate of Income Tax (Systems) as ‘high-risk VRU (variable report upload) under ‘risk management system’ in accordance with the ‘risk management strategy‘ formulated by the Central Board of Direct Taxes. The assessee is given a week to respond, failing which the case would be automatically reopened.”Of course, some would play a cat and mouse game. They would ld file an adjournment letter, give some ‘cogent’ reason to ask for more time…may be submit at the last moment or look for an excuse to delay beyond March 31,” said a source.

If the system throws up enough names on time, the department’s Mumbai region which accounts for over 30% of the I-T collections may end up issuing more than 50,000 initial letters under section 148A.

However, tax practitioners advising the high net worth individuals aren’t complaining. “We understand if a satisfactory reply is received from an assessee, the case may not be reopened. It is a welcome move towards reducing litigation and giving opportunity to an assessee before a case is reopened. Writ petitions based on the principle of natural justice will be history. Every assessee will have an opportunity to explain his case to the assessing officer. Earlier cases were reopened without opportunity,” said Rajesh P Shah who heads the international taxation committee of the chamber of tax consultants.

The number of cases that would be eventually reopened would depend on the names cleared by the portal and the time tax officers have for sending out notices before the financial year ends.

Writ Petitions

“Reassessment provisions are one of the highest litigated provisions with maximum writs filed against reassessment notices. One really hopes that the tax administration gives due consideration to the responses filed by taxpayers and where dropping of show-cause notices is justified, such proceedings are fairly dropped. This will not only reduce unwanted litigation but also go a long way in building trust between the taxpayers and administration and augmen ease of doing business,” said Said Ashish Mehta, partner, Khaitan & Co.

The amended law allows the department to go back 11 years (i.e. 10 years from the end of the assessment year in which the notice is received) if total income that has escaped tax is suspected to be more than Rs 50 lakh; it’s four years if escaped income is below Rs 50 lakh. The information uploaded on the portal is obtained from banks, overseas authorities, agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate and other third parties.

Once a reopening notice is issued within the next fortnight, a full-blown reassessment would begin involving recording all responses and serving a show-cause notice within nine months from the end of this financial year (i.e. by December 2023). “One case leads to another. Suppose, there is an accommodation loan entry where irregular cash payment is finding its way back into a company. In such a case, all lenders to the company will be served notices,” said another tax officer.

Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files releases today all over India

The Kashmiri Files

New Delhi: Based on actual incidents and narrated from the Kashmiri Pandit’s point of view, director Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ is a dramatised version of events that occurred in 1989.

The film ‘The Kashmir Files’, which showcases the plight of Kashmiri Pandits with all its grime and gore, begins on an innocuous note, with a euphoric cricket commentary on the radio in the backdrop of young Kashmiri children playing cricket in the snow-covered landscape.

Synchronising their game to the radio commentary, young Shiva cheers for Sachin Tendulkar till his friend Abdul cautions him against doing so, and soon we realise why.

Told in a non-linear manner, initially, the plot meanders on a jerky note telling about us the atrocities perpetrated on Pushkar Nath Pandit (Anupam Kher) and his family. But soon, the tale takes the form of a cathartic film, when Pushkar’s four friends reunite after 30 years, at the behest of Krishna (Darshan Kumaar), Pushkar’s younger grandson, to scatter Pushkar’s ashes at his ancestral home in Kashmir…

The tragedy of Kashmir has deep roots. Over the decades of endless cycles of violence, waves of separatism, the infiltration of Pakistan-funded terror outfits, and the simmering discontent amongst the people, scholarly works and journalistic exercises have dug deep in order to excavate and explore. As is always the case with complex histories of places and people, we’ve had accounts depending upon which aspect of the issue they have been interested in.

Overall, the film is engaging and like one of the dialogues, which tells us, “Broken souls don’t speak — they must be heard”, ‘The Kashmir Files’ is the voice of tens of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave their homes.

India accidentally fired Missile into Pakistan: Defence ministry

NEW DELHI: Defence ministry India on Friday said that a technical malfunction led to accidental firing of a missile into pakistan and the incident is “deeply regretted”.

“On 9 March 2022, in the course of routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile. The Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry,” the defence ministry said in a statement.

India has said that it accidentally fired a missile into pakistan. this week because of a “technical malfunction” during routine maintenance, giving its version of events after Pakistan summoned India’s envoy to protest.

Military experts and defence ministry have in the past warned of the risk of accidents or miscalculations by the nuclear-armed neighbours, which have fought three wars and engaged in numerous smaller armed clashes, usually over the disputed territory of Kashmir.

Tensions have eased in recent months, and the incident, which may have been the first of its kind, immediately raised questions about safety mechanisms.

“On 9 March 2022, in the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile,” the Indian Ministry of Defence said in a three-paragraph statement.

“It is learned that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.”

The Defence ministry said the government had “taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of enquiry”.

Pakistani officials said the missile was unarmed and had crashed near the country’s eastern city of Mian Channu, about 500 km (310 miles) from its capital Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office summoned India,s charge d’affaires in Islamabad to lodge a protest over what it called an unprovoked violation of its airspace, saying the incident could have endangered passenger flights and civilian lives.

Pakistan warned India “to be mindful of the unpleasant consequences of such negligence and take effective measures to avoid the recurrence of such violations in future”.

After India’s admission, Pakistan’s National Security adviser Moeed Yusuf said it was “highly irresponsible” of New Delhi not to inform Islamabad immediately of the inadvertent launch of a missile.

“The real circumstances surrounding this incident must also be investigated to ascertain if this was an inadvertent launch or something more intentional,” Yusuf said on Twitter.

Ayesha Siddiqa, an expert on military affairs and South Asian matters, wrote on Twitter that “India-Pak should be talking about risk mitigation”.

“Both states have remained confident about control of nuclear weapons but what if such accidents happen again & with more serious consequences?”

One senior Pakistani security official told Reuters, on condition of anonymity, that the incident could have escalated into a “critical untoward situation” .

“The admission that it was a missile was very nonchalant,” he said. “What does this say about their safety mechanisms and the technical prowess of very dangerous weapons? The international community needs to have a very close look at this.”

The Defence ministry said it was possibly a BrahMos missile – a nuclear-capable, land-attack cruise missile jointly developed by Russia and India.

According to the US-based Arms Control Association, the missile’s range is between 300km (186 miles) and 500km (310 miles), making it capable of hitting Islamabad from a northern Indian launch pad.

A Pakistani military spokesman told a news conference on Thursday evening that a “high-speed flying object” originating from the northern Indian city of Sirsa had crashed in eastern Pakistan.

“The flight path of this object endangered many national and international passenger flights both in Indian and Pakistani airspace as well as human life and property on ground,” he said.

Born to parents Marg and Mort,Louie came into existence in 1957 as a fly. He was known as a bad, mean, and mighty unclean fly, spreading disease with the greatest of ease. Mortein launchedLouie the mosquito in India in 2004to spread awareness around pest and mosquito borne diseases and is an adaptation of Louie the Fly, drawn and animated by Geoffrey Morgan Pike having appeared in many animated TV commercials.

Indian women prefer snacking on almonds to achieve better skin health: You Gov Survey

ACs

Almonds’ high Vitamin E benefit is well recognized by Indian Women
• 59% of women consume almonds daily
• 70% of women identify skin glow as main beauty related benefit of eating almonds

INDIA,04 March 2022: In this fast-paced world and with the growing influx of information, women across the country are aware of how nutrition is closely associated with skin health. The food we eat is as important as the products for our skin, as healthy glowing skin is hard to achieve on a poor diet even with the strictest skincare regime. This is evident in the survey that highlights a shift in consumers’ preferences towards a healthy lifestyle and natural alternatives for daily diet.

According to a recent survey conducted between 7th to 22nd December by YouGov, a research consulting firm, 72% of women in India find healthy dietary changes as an important step for beautiful looking skin.

The quantitative survey by YouGov aimed to assess the correlation between beauty and snacking, and understand women’s snacking patterns for beauty benefits. The survey was conducted amongst a sample size of 3,959 women in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Jaipur,Nagpur, Indore, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Chennai.

As per the survey results, it is important to note that 80% of women in India are of the opinion that beauty shines through by being healthy rather than using topical skincare products. Majority of the respondents feel that having a healthy diet along with relaxing when needed and exercising are key to a balanced lifestyle which thereby results into achieving a healthy skin.

Overall, the results indicate that majority of the females prefer to snack on healthy and nutritious food items such as almonds and fruits as they recognize the beauty benefits of fruits and almonds in particular.

Talking specifically in terms of maintaining a healthy diet, most women see a consequent benefit of achieving beautiful looking skin with home meals, a fibre-rich diet and snacking on nuts like almonds. Almonds have emerged as a top choice amongst Indian women as they associate Vitamin E with better skin health. Almonds are a rich source of Vitamin E – thus, almonds are ranked highest on this aspect amongst all nuts. Besides, the survey highlights the fact that 59% of women consume almonds on a daily basis, mostly soaked or raw. This makes almonds the most regularly consumed nut.

Females of the age group 30-39 and Millennials rate almonds highly on aspects such as wrinkle reduction, skin glow and skin protection. Whereas Gen X highly associates consumption of almonds with reduction of wrinkles. This assessment is reinforced by their personal experience as they report having observed positive effects on skin after eating almonds. In fact, those who have been consuming almonds for over 6 months report positive impacts such as skin glow and younger looking skin more than those who started consuming almonds lately.Commenting on the results of the survey Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta, Skin Expert and Cosmetologist said “The popular notion of ‘health from the inside out’ holds true. This can be very well-understood from the survey results which indicate towards a growing awareness amongst Indian women around the relationship between proper nutrition and skin health. I have always stressed upon the need for healthy dietary choices in addition to the topical application of skincare products. For instance, eating a handful of almonds every day can up the Vitamin E intake and other antioxidants which help protect cells – including skin cells – from oxidative damage and are thought to be extremely beneficial for skin. Almonds also provide essential fatty acids and polyphenols thought to help fight the effects of aging on skin. Recent studies suggest, eating almonds daily in place of a typical calorie-matched snack may be an effective means of improving the appearance of facial wrinkles and skin tone among postmenopausal women. My recommendation to women across India would be to take cognizance of these benefits and to add consumption of a handful of almonds to their daily skincare routine., to support their skin’s overall health.

Commenting on the results of the survey, Sheela Krishnaswamy, Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, said, “It is great to see survey results indicating stronger adoption of the idea that a healthy lifestyle, including healthy snacking, can elevate one’s skin health. Almonds are known to be a rich source of antioxidant vitamin E and deliver essential fatty acids and polyphenols, which make them a great choice . A recent study suggests that almonds can help improve facial wrinkles and skin tone, a finding that supports the belief that almonds promote skin health among survey participants. I encourage women to include them in their daily diet, to support healthier skin.”

In agreement with the results of the survey, Ritika Samaddar, the Regional Head-Dietetics, Max Healthcare – Delhi, said, “Eating almonds regularly for a variety of health benefits is inbuilt in our traditions and this survey demonstrates that trust in almonds’ health effects remains strong. Additionally, this new survey presents exciting new insights in the area of skin health and stresses on the fact that how most women prefer healthy dietary choices to achieve better looking skin. Thus, I would urge women across India looking for natural ways to support their skin to increase their almond intake and make sure to eat a handful everyday as part of their efforts to care for their skin.”

Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach, Neha Ranglani, said, “This new survey reveals that participants associate almonds with wrinkle reduction, skin glow, and protection from UV light. In this day and age, where pollution and toxins are taking over our well-being, we must take extra care of our skin. Consuming almonds daily makes for a good way to provide our skin with adequate nutrients and nourish it from within. It is a fantastic way to load up on Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, which helps protect your skin against damage caused by free radicals thought to participate in the aging process. Keeping in mind, I would recommend all women, to begin snacking on a handful of almonds every day for better skin health in the long run.”

With time, people have grown more conscious about their health as well as nutrition. This has been rightly reflected on the survey, where the results show that Indian women are concerned about their appearance and are mindful of what they consume to stay healthy. As per the survey, a healthy diet coupled with regular exercise and sleep is a perfect recipe for a healthy and glowing skin.

PM Modi Asks Indian Air Force To Join Ukraine Evacuation Efforts: Sources

Narendra Modi

New Delhi: PM Modi has asked Indian Air Force to assist in evacuating nationals from war-torn Ukraine, sources said today.

“Leveraging the capacities of our Air Force will ensure that more people can be evacuated in a shorter time frame. It will also help deliver humanitarian aid more efficiently,” sources told NDTV.

Indian Air Force is expected to deploy several C-17 aircrafts as part of Operation Ganga from today.

Earlier today, a flight carrying 182 Indians landed in Mumbai. The flight flew out of Romanian capital Bucharest, as Ukraine has closed its airspace.

At least two other evacuation flights will bring back Indians today – one from Bucharest and one from Hungary’s capital Budapest.

PM Modi has also spoken to his counterparts in Romania and the Slovak Republic, Ukraine’s neighboring countries from where India is planning to evacuate its citizens, about evacuation efforts from their countries.

On Monday, the government said that of the estimated 20,000 Indian nationals who were present in Ukraine about 8,000 have left the country since its first advisory earlier this month.
