For centuries, dark secrets and mystery shrouds one of the most beautiful and largest cut diamonds in the world- the Kohinoor. Retracing the story and controversies around what is inarguably India’s most prized possession that was wrongfully snatched during the British rule, discovery+ comes together with acclaimed director Neeraj Pandey – Friday Storytellers and the versatile National Award and Padma Shri-awardee Manoj Bajpayee for a fascinating docuseries in the ‘Secrets’ franchise, titled ‘Secrets of the Kohinoor, premiering on August 4, 2022.
After the roaring success of ‘Secrets of Sinauli: Discovery of the Century’, discovery+ is expanding the ‘Secrets’ franchise to showcase one of the most contentious debates on the origins and ownership of the illustrious jewel. The docuseries uncovers aspects like how, over the years, since its discovery, the weight of the diamond has been slashed down to less than six times its original weight; or that the Kohinoor, which we want to call our own, might not be the same diamond Emperor Babur mentioned in his memoir. Featuring Parliamentarian and Author, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Historian and AMU, Irfan Habib, Dr. Adrienne Munich, Prof. Farhat Nasreen, K. K. Muhammed, Dr. Manvendra Kumar Pundhir, Navtej Sarna, J Sai Deepak, Dr.Danielle Kinsey, Dr.Miles Taylor and Master Diamond Polisher Ms.Pauline Willemse.
Directed by Raghav Jairath, the docuseries also uncovers the stories of multiple rulers and their insatiable desire for the Kohinoor which led to significant and very bloody wars, triggered agonizing mind games, and empowered rulers and ruined dynasties whilst exploring stories of powerful emperors whose lives intertwined with the diamond in unfathomable ways. Just like the Kohinoor with its timeless allure, Secrets of the Kohinoor through its sharp storytelling and creative treatment is expected to be just as riveting, serving as a guiding reference for enthusiasts, general audiences, and history connoisseurs in the years to come.
Speaking about the docuseries, actor Manoj Bajpayee, said, “The opportunity of presenting this particular series in the franchise has been a uniquely satisfying and a learning experience for me, and for that, I am truly grateful to discovery+ and Neeraj Pandey. This project marks my second collaboration with them. Despite being talked about for years, there are many facts about the Kohinoor that were unknown to me, and I am certain, they would be unknown to a majority of the world as well. The revelations made in the documentary took me by surprise and I cannot wait for viewers to explore this untold story and be just as surprised.”
Creator Neeraj Pandey, added, “The unseen, disguised and unknown historical facts have always intrigued and fascinated me to delve deep into the subject. After the amazing response to Secrets of Sinauli, the idea to explore the mystery of the Kohinoor excited us as it has been one of the most talked about diamonds in the history of time.” He further adds, “Our partnership with discovery+ has been great at bringing alive stories that are bigger, better, and bolder. Moreover, it is always a pleasure to work in collaboration with Manoj, who is a master of his craft and has taken the show to a whole new level with his striking storytelling expertise. The robust research, peppered with inputs from renowned scholars and experts, digs deep into the story of Kohinoor to surface lesser-known facets of its journey whilst narrating the importance of bringing it back to its homeland.”
Sai Abishek, Head of Factual & Lifestyle Cluster- South Asia, Warner Bros. Discovery, shared, “We’re pioneering the history genre with our distinctive offerings that appeal to audiences across age groups. We have added another Indian Originals IP to our already expansive history genre on the platform with the growing ‘Secrets’ franchise. Following the massive success of ‘Secrets of Sinauli: Discovery of the Century’, we realized the tremendous potential in the subject and thereby built on the successful collaboration with Neeraj Pandey and Manoj Bajpayee. The captivating history of Kohinoor and its unexplored aspects are even more prevalent now and need to be known by audiences across the globe.”

Sony SAB’s most loved show Wagle Ki Duniya has been entertaining its viewers with its relatable storyline and much-admired characters. The upcoming episodes have a bittersweet narrative that gives us a deeper glimpse into the minds of the Wagle. In the upcoming episodes, the rain while being gracious will force everyone to remain indoors.
All the elders have gathered at the Wagle’s and are enjoying the weather with pakodas and chai. The kids, however, had some other plans before the heavy downpour. They all make plans to meet at Vivan’s house but unfortunately get stuck at the café because of the rains. The only person to make it to Vivan’s place was Sakhi. Due to the heavy rains, she is forced to spend the night at his place. Trying to enjoy the weather and making the most of it, they start dancing and share a fleeting moment where Sakhi contemplates finally confessing to Vivan how she feels about him. But when Rajesh finds out that Sakhi is stuck at Vivan’s place and that they are alone, the overprotective father in him awakens and is enraged, leading him to lash out at Sakhi, without consideration for the circumstances created by the relentless rains under which she had no option.
What will Rajesh do next? Will he overreact as he did in the past or will he give Sakhi a chance to explain? And will Sakhi confess her love to Vivan?
Sumeet Raghavan essaying the role of Rajesh Wagle said “There’s no downplaying the role of a father in his daughter’s life. He is supposed to protect and nurture her in the best ways known to him. And although the father-daughter relationship should be one of trust, fun, adventures, and mutual respect, in some cases, it doesn’t always happen. ‘Shubhangi Atre takes care of me like a daughter’, says Rakesh Bedi
Rakesh Bedi, who portrays Bhure Lal in the beloved show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai on &TV, has played a variety of comical roles throughout his four-decade-long-acting career. He dominated comedy television and movies throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. With his unmatched talent, conviction, and expertise, Rakesh Bedi has consistently delivered flawless performances that have inspired the audience to believe in them. While his portrayal of Bhure Lal prompted the audience to fall off their seats. He talks about an array of topics, ranging from his comic characters to equations he shares with the directors and actors of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai.
Tell us about your journey so far.
I completed my FTII course in Pune before starting my official career in film, and during my convocation performance, G.P. Sippy, Sir—who had just directed the smash-hit Sholay that year—asked me to come to Bombay and offered me a significant part in the movie Ahsaas! My foray into the Hindi film industry was done with this movie. My path has been lovely, and I am proud to say that despite having been in over 100 movies and television shows, I am one of the few actors who started their careers in theatre and are still associated with it. Theatre will always be my first love.
Who has been your role model as a theatre artist?
Charlie Chaplin was someone I had a crush on, so I watched all his movies and comedic performances. He was the one who, without saying a word, made everyone laugh, and that is what motivated me to pursue a career in theatre. I also enjoyed the amazing work of Johnny Walker, Sanjiv Kapoor, and Mehmood Sir.
What was the response you received for playing Bhure Lal in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai?
There has always been a fantastic response. The Bhure Lal persona is incredibly popular. However, they also worry when I take off my helmet (laughs). When the audience appreciates me as Bhure Lal, I am overwhelmed. I frequently find myself giggling as I go through the countless hilarious and witty father-in-law memes created by Bhure Lal on social media.
What do you feel makes Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai more loved in comparison to other comedy shows?
I would say writing. Without a doubt! Our writer, Manoj Santoshi, can bring laughter with lines that have no humour in them. We just must deliver the line in a way that brings laughter.
You have been in this industry for a long time and have done various comedic and serious roles. However, people best remember you for your comic roles. What do you want to say about that?
I am grateful that people appreciate my work and show me such a lot of support. I have performed both serious and humorous roles concurrently, and I will continue to do so. In theatres, I have played a variety of serious characters. One of the most well-known is The Mouse Trap by Agatha Christie, in which I portrayed the drama’s primary antagonist. I have performed 200 or so concerts, and it was a huge hit in London. Additionally, ‘Massage’, a piece by Vijay Tendulkar that I performed alone for two hours straight playing 24 various shades of personalities in a row, will always be my favourite.
Who has been your constant life support?
My family has been with me with all my thick and thins, especially my wife and two daughters.
You and Aasif Sheikh have worked as co-stars before as well. Does that equation also help you to portray the scenes humorously?
Every time I have a scene there, I enjoy going to the sets. We have worked on numerous plays, movies, and stage plays together. Aasif loves me so much, that we often make jokes about our past experiences while practising. There are times when Bhure and Vibhuti are having a drink together, and the characters’ naïve antics are quite entertaining and relatable.
Apart from Aasif Sheikh, with whom do you have a strong bond in the Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai cast?
I don’t have my regular scenes, but whenever I am on set, I have been pampered a lot by Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabi). She takes care of everything like a daughter. So, our bond is not just onscreen but offscreen as well. We all have our lunch together whenever I am on set, and Shubhangi herself cooks for me and innocently says’ Dadoo Khana Kha lo. Likewise, I share a great time with Rohit, chit-chatting about our theatre days and many political topics.
A message to all fans of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai?
Everyone in their life should be able to laugh at themselves. Humour covers a lot of things at the same time, and it says more things than any message can say.
Watch Rakesh Bedi as Bhure Lal &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai airing every Monday to Friday at 10:30 PM.

Major General Dr. Vibha Dutta, SM, Director, AIIMS Nagpur, informed that the Viral Research Diagnosis Laboratory (VRDL), under the Department of Microbiology, has been appointed as the nodal laboratory for testing samples of suspected monkeypox cases by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.
Dr. Meena Mishra, Professor, and Head, Principal Investigator of VRDL, Department of Microbiology, AIIMS, Nagpur, informed that ICMR has provided the Real-Time PCR kit for detection of monkeypox and that the entire staff has obtained training and the laboratory is fully equipped with equipment’s, kits and reagents to detect the monkeypox cases from the samples of the suspected cases that will be received for diagnosis.
Dr. Meena Mishra explained that a suspected case of monkeypox is a person presenting with an unexplained acute rash, headache, fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle pain/body aches, weakness, etc. Similarly, a person with a history of contact with a probable or confirmed case of monkeypox, travel history to a monkeypox endemic country, or has had multiple/anonymous sexual partners in the past 21 days, also needs to be tested for monkeypox.
