SpaceX launch NASA’s planet hunting satellite TESS

SpaceX has launched NASA’s planet-hunting satellite TESS into outer space Wednesday evening from Cape Canaveral.

TESS — short for Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite — will spend two years searching for planets near bright, nearby stars. The satellite was launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

TESS, will study vastly more stars across 85 percent of the sky in a bid to pinpoint thousands of new planets with the emphasis on Earth-size or slightly larger.

“People have always wanted to know are we alone in the universe,” said Paul Hertz, director of astrophysics at NASA Headquarters. “Up until 20 years ago, we didn’t know of any planets beyond our own solar system. Now, we know that for every star in the sky that you look at, there’s probably a family of planets around it.

The Falcon 9, with TESS nestled in a protective nose cone, blasted off from pad 40 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 6:51 p.m. EDT (GMT-4), climbing away to the east through a cloudless sky. The launching came two days late to carry out additional guidance, navigation and control analysis. After boosting the rocket out of the dense lower atmosphere, the first stage fell away and flew back to a landing on the deck of an off-shore drone ship. The launching marked SpaceX’s eighth so far this year and the 53rd of a Falcon 9 overall. The company’s landing record now stands at 24 successful booster recoveries, 12 on land and 12 on the deck of a ship.

Researchers expect that TESS will find around 20,000 planets to target for future study.

Nagpur Metro to start its first commercial run in March 2019

Majhi Metro to run additional trains for Ind-Aus T20I match for Nagpur fans

The Nagpur Metro is likely to start its first commercial run on a 14-km stretch between Khapri and Sitabuldi in March 2019.

Nagpur Metro as MahaMetro has finally got the green light from Commission of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). After its trial run on September 30, 2017, the safety certification for Nagpur Metro got entangled in red tape for over six months.

MahaMetro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit said: “We are planning to start a pre-launch free ride for the under-privileged, like those who are differently-abled, senior citizens and the homeless, on demand at the at-grade section.” Three stations on the stretch have already been completed. “The stations, Khapri, New Airport and Airport South, have already received platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council,” Dixit said.

Dixit said Nagpur Metro stations were being built as per international standards.

The Nagpur Metro, covering a total of around 40 km between the two corridors, North-South and East-West, would have 41 stations. Many of them are being developed based on themes, like tiger, forest, tribal and aqua, with the buildings’ facades depicting them. The Nagpur Metro will have many unique features, like two stretches of double-decker sections – 3.5 km Airport to Ajni, and 5.3 km LIC Square to Automotive Square.

These would have the NH7 below and the metro track running above it. In the latter section, four decks would run, one above each other, at one point on Kamptee Road, where a railway bridge passes above the existing highway stretch. The metro proposes to draw 65 per cent of its power from a solar plant to be specially erected solely for the purpose. Two towers, at least 20 storeys each, are slated to come up in Sitabuldi area with metro offering it to private developers on BOT (build operate transfer) basis.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should be under RTI – Law Commission

The Law Commission of India has recommended that the Indian cricket board, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), should be brought under the ambit of Right to Information (RTI) Act.

It is recommended that RTI Act be made applicable to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with all of its constituent member cricketing associations, provided they fulfil the criteria applicable to Board of Control for Cricket in India, the commission said on Wednesday.

The Commission said that non-consideration of the role played by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as monopolistic in regulation of the game of cricket had resulted in the board “flying under the radar of public scrutiny, encouraged an environment of opacity and non-accountability”.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the world’s richest cricket body, operates as a private entity under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.

If the government accepts the commission’s recommendations and classifies Board of Control for Cricket in India as a public body or an organisation under the RTI Act, anyone can file PILs in the SC or HCs questioning the selection of players representing India, states and zones. PILs could also question the agreements signed by Board of Control for Cricket in India with other cricket playing nations and the International Cricket Council.

In July 2016, the Supreme Court asked the Commission to recommend whether the board can be brought under the Right to Information Act.

The report, submitted to the Law Ministry on Wednesday, states that the Board of Control for Cricket in India ought to be classified as ‘state’ within the meaning of Article 12 of the Constitution.

The song, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and sung by Arijit Singh is sure to evoke patriotism in you.

The song perfectly showcases Alia Bhatt’s journey from an ordinary girl to an extraordinary spy. It shows how Sehmat sacrifices her safety for her country and overcomes all hurdles that come her way to protect her nation. This is the first time Arijit Singh has sung a patriotic number. He has felt each and every word like he means it and we don’t think anyone else apart from him could have sung this so as beautifully as Arijit.

Maharashtra to start power distribution scheme for farmers

वीजबिल चुकवत असाल तर 3 आठवड्यात वीजपुरवठा कापला जाणार

Maharashtra to start power distribution scheme for farmers : The state government approved a scheme to launch High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) to provide electricity to over two lakh farmers.

Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the scheme will cater to around 2.24 lakh farmers, who had applied for new connections, but were still to get electricity almost three years later.

The scheme, approved by the state Cabinet, is estimated to cost Rs 5,048 crore. Bawankule said that currently, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited spends around Rs 1.5 lakh per new connection and under HVDS scheme, the cost will be around Rs 2 lakh per new connection. “The HVDS is expected to reduce long-term losses,” he added.

In the last three years, farmers in Maharashtra were given four lakh agriculture pumps connections, the minister said. The cost of each connection is Rs 1.5 lakh, he added. In the HVDS scheme, the expenditure per agriculture pump is expected to be around Rs 2 lakh, he said.

Stating that Maharashtra is self-sufficient in electricity, the minister said, “We have achieved the demand of 23,100 megawatts (MW) and are able to provide uninterrupted power supply. There is no load-shedding for industrial, residential and commercial consumers. For agriculture purpose, eight hours electricity is provided (daily). There are around 700 feeders where villages and farms have a common electricity connection and we are undertaking a scheme to separate them,”.

Under HVDS, only two farmers will have to share a transformer, as opposed to the current situation where 10 to 15 farmers share one transformer. “The new system will not only reduce the load on transformers but also provide high voltage electricity to farmers… HVDS will eliminate transformer failures and ensure continuous supply,” said Bawankule.

With 164 sixes and a whopping 399 fours, he is a deadly run machine which he had scored in just 153 matches. The 11th season of IPL could prove to be a record breaker season for him as he is at the third spot in ‘most sixes hit’ list. The only two batsmen above him are Raina and Rohit Sharma.

However, although he played a blistering 92-runs knock, Kolhi could not lead his team to victory. RCB lost to MI by 46 runs.

Kohli and Raina are the only two players to have scored 4,500 runs or more in the IPL. Rohit Sharma is number three in list with 4,345 runs in the competition. Following Sharma are Gautam Gambhir, David Warner, Robin Uthappa, Shikhar Dhawan, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers.

Amazon ‘lite’ web browser for Android launched in India

Amazon ‘lite’ web browser for Android launched in India

Amazon has launched a ‘lite’ internet browser for emerging browsers. The web browser has a rather complicated name titled ‘Internet: fast, lite, and private’.

It is currently available for Android users in India on Google Play Store. The iOS version isn’t available as yet. The launch of this web browser has been quite discreet, and was released on Play Store in March. This browser has been in the Play Store with 1000 downloads and only available in India for Android devices which run Android 5.0 or above versions. Internet app size is almost less than 2mb, which is similar to Google Go Edition apps or Facebook lite version apps that possess lesser file size.

amazon internet_browser_app

In terms of features, the Internet supports Private tabs, to save data consumption from history and cookies. The app’s description in Play Store also mentions this app as ‘private’, which means it doesn’t ask permissions like most other popular browsers do. The app also features tab previews, an automatic full-screen mode and an integrated news reader as well. The browser’s home page and the app’s description also indicates that the browser is focused only for India, as the most popular sport like cricket and sites like BookMyShow is on the top list with other popular news sites as well.

Lastly, there’s a feedback section for the users to give their opinion on the browser experience and to report any bugs or whatsoever. However, Amazon India hasn’t officially announced about this Internet ‘lite’ browser yet. After Facebook and Google, Amazon might be competing in their ‘lite’ version applications since the company already offers Amazon Kindle lite app in addition to this new Internet ‘lite’ browser.

World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) to start a center at Nagpur soon

NAGPUR
NAGPUR

Orange City, Nagpur, which is located at the centre of India, is certainly going global. World Trade Centers Association (WTCA), which had built the WTC in New York and also the one in Mumbai, has decided to start a center here.

WTCA India director, Zubin Jall, said that Nagpur center would come up near Sitabuldi interchange Metro station. “We are in the final stages of identifying a licensee and expect that construction would start before the year-end,” he added. “We have not decided the size of the center. That would be decided by our licensee depending upon the market conditions,” said Jall.

According to Jall, WTCs all over the world are interconnected and hold regular seminars, which are attended by chief executive officers (CEOs) of big companies. “We provide special services to our tenants. We also have an exclusive WTC Club,” he said.

The WTCA India chief said that big cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Pune were saturated and next center of growth were tier-2 cities like Nagpur. “We presently have WTCs in five cities and have selected licensees in 25 more. We plan to cover all Smart Cities and expect Nagpur to be the 31st,” he further said. According to him Nagpur Metro would prove to be an engine of growth for the city. “The traffic here is quite heavy and this is the right time to go in for a Metro. In cities like Mumbai, construction started when it was too late,” said Jall.

Nagpur Metro is constructing three big commercial buildings near the Sitabuldi interchange station. These can compete with the WTC. Jall, however, ruled that out the possibility. “WTC don’t compete with other real estate projects even if they share a common boundary wall. We provide unique services,” he said.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation delays 24×7 water supply project

The water works department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been exposed once again. Even as Nagpur stares at emergent water crisis in the wake of rising summer heat, the ambitious 24×7 water supply project in the city seems to a far-fetched dream.

Even Nagpur Municipal Corporation has admitted to having delayed the scheme. The 24×7 water supply project implemented by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation in 2011 is still not complete. Sanjay Gaikwad, executive engineer of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s water works department, admitted the delay and blamed non-availability of funds.

Orange City Water (OCW) pumps 630-640 MLD water from both Kanhan river and Pench reservoir (215-220 MLD from Kanhan and rest from Pench). Of this, 270 MLD (i.e. 27 crore litres) water is still unaccounted and NMC is deprived of revenue, a power point presentation prepared for the corporators revealed.

ALSO READ : MahaMetro planned 13 real estate projects in Nagpur

According to Gaikwad, the NMC will cover another 20 command areas and said non-network localities will be covered under the AMRUT scheme. Meanwhile, he said there is no fear of water crisis in the city this summer. He said the city still has reservation of 184 cubic mm water from Navegaon Khairi. “Till date, the NMC has withdrawn around 80 mm cube water. The NMC can use 80-90 cubic mm from its reservation till June 30,” he said.

Currently, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is lifting 625 MLD water per day from Khairi dam. The NMC may increase the quantity to 725 MLD per day during peak summer. “Last year, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation had withdrawn 710 MLD water during summer season,” Gaikwad said, adding “We have kept 15 MLD in buffer this year.”

Flipkart in collaboration with ASUS will launch the ZenFone Max Pro on April 23

Flipkart in collaboration with ASUS will launch the ZenFone Max Pro on April 23Flipkart in collaboration with ASUS will launch the ZenFone Max Pro on April 23

After releasing teasers about “a huge partnership that is all set to transform the mobile phone industry”, Flipkart has finally announced an exclusive tie-up with Taiwanese tech giant Asus to sell the company’s latest ZenFone line of devices.

The first device that will be launched as part of the deal will be the ZenFone Max Pro, which will be launched as a ‘Made for India’ product, according to Asus’s regional head for India, Leon Yu.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro would be announced at a separate event on April 23 at 12:30PM. ASUS and Flipkart haven’t announced the specifications of the Zenfone Max Pro other than its processing chipset, which we will discuss in the section below. We expect the companies to release the upcoming smartphone’s complete hardware and software specifications as well as its pricing and availability on April 23, 2018.

The Zenfone Max Pro could be a lower mid-range smartphone, classified by its price. However, since ASUS and Flipkart have asserted that the phones borne out of their exclusive partnership will feature category challenging features and value-for-money price tags. So, we expect the specifications of the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro to punch above the phone’s weight. It is being rumoured that the phone will be launched to compete with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, which is currently selling like hot cakes.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro has been confirmed to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. The chipset is also used in the Redmi Note 5 Pro, and uses eight Kryo 260 CPU cores clocked at a maximum frequency of 1.8GHz.

It also uses the Adreno 509 GPU and the X12 LTE modem which can reach a maximum download speed of 600Mbps and an upload speed of 150Mbps. We have a feeling that the Zenfone Max Pro could be a derivative of the ASUS Zenfone 5, which was launched at the Mobile World Congress 2018 earlier this year along with the lower-end Zenfone 5 Lite and the higher-end Zenfone 5Z.

“These rakes will be fit for running services at a speed up to 120 kmph with higher acceleration and deceleration, which will help in reducing the running time in the congested sections…,” the ministry said.

It informed that the project was proposed to be part of the Maha-Metro, Nagpur, and would be handed over to the Indian Railways for its operation. The proposed EMU trains would have modern aesthetic and ergonomic design, and have traveller-friendly features like passenger information display, automatic announcements and digital route display, the ministry said. Cash crunch at many ATMs across India

Cash crunch at many ATMs across India

Cash crunch at many ATMs across India

The cash crunch in few states in the country including Gujarat has become worse. With ATMs running dry, people are being reminded of the demonetization days. The problem seems to have affected ATMs in cities and towns across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

One reason for this could be that cash withdrawals at some bank branches and their ATMs are much higher than deposits made at those branches.

Government takes note

Meanwhile, Minister of State (MoS) for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said, “We’ve cash currency of Rs 1,25,000 crore right now. There is one problem that some states have less currency and others have more. Government has formed state-wise committee and RBI also formed committee to transfer the currency from one state to the other. It will be done in three days.”

Earlier, referring to reports of ATMs running out of cash at some places in his state, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Tuesday, claimed that Rs 2,000 notes were vanishing from the market, and alleged that there is a ‘conspiracy’ behind their disappearance .

Addressing a farmers’ convention, Chouhan said: “The currency worth Rs 15,00,000 crore was in circulation before the demonetisation. After this exercise [demonetisation], the currency in circulation increased to Rs 16,50,000 crore. But notes of Rs 2,000 are missing from the market.”

Several states have faced cash shortages despite the fact that currency flows are now at the pre-demonetisation level. A recent analysis has found that the rate of the cash withdrawals were far more than the cash deposits at banks in the states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and other states.

The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Co. Ltd, plans to bid for two separate projects of 150MW and 250MW. “TPREL may invest up to Rs2,000 crore in these projects. Bid strategy and other investment and commercial terms are still being worked out,” the first person cited above said on condition of anonymity.

TPREL, which builds and operates wind and solar power projects, is Tata Power’s primary investment vehicle for clean and renewable energy.

In December, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) invited bids for 1 gigawatt (GW) of grid-connected solar power projects to meet its obligation to buy renewable energy.

MSEDCL supplies power to 1.93 crore consumers across the state. But the tender found no takers as potential bidders feared the central government would implement a recommendation from the Directorate General of Safeguards to impose a 70% duty on solar panels imported from China and Malaysia, which would push up their costs.

This month, MSEDCL re-introduced the tender, inserting a clause that allows winning bidders to revise tariffs and recover any safeguard duty that might be introduced later. The bid information sheet seen by Mint has set a tariff ceiling of Rs3 per unit, which is locked in for 25 years. The bidder will have to ensure grid connectivity and get clearances.

The minimum project capacity is 5MW for intra-state and 50MW for inter-state projects. The last date for submission of technical bids is 27 April. Financial bids open on 7 May.

Mudit Jain, senior manager at renewable energy consultant Bridge to India said while the state has not indicated where it wants the projects set up, existing projects in Maharashtra are focused in the Marathwada, Vidarbha, Wardha and Osmanabad regions, where solar irradiance is the highest. Maharashtra currently has 430MW of installed solar capacity.

Google AI will let you talk to books, play word association games

Google Research is giving us a (fun) glimpse of how far natural language processing in artificial intelligence has come. Mountain View’s research division has rolled out a couple of what it calls Semantic Experiences, which are websites with interesting activities that demonstrate AIs’ ability to understand how we speak.

One of the two experiences is called “Talk to Books” because, well, you can use the website to talk to books to a certain extent. You simply type in a statement or a question, and it will find whole sentences in books related to what you typed and other is and “Semantris” where people can play word association games powered by semantic search.

In “Talk to Books” experience, users can simply type in a statement or a question and the AI will find whole sentences in books related to what they have typed.

Google Research Director of Engineering Ray Kurzweil and Product Manager Rachel Bernstein said the system does not depend on keyword matching. They trained its AI by feeding it a “billion conversation-like pairs of sentences,” so it can learn to identify what a good response looks like.

Google Research’s other new website called Semantris offers word association games, including a Tetris-like break-the-blocks experience. The two games can recognize both opposite and neighboring concepts, even sounds like “vroom” for motorcycle or “meow” for cat.

The development in word vector, an AI-training model that enables algorithms to learn relationships between words based on actual language usage, led to the advancement in natural language processing over the past few years.

Kurzweil and Bernstein said that these websites show how AIs’ “new capabilities can drive applications that were not possible before”.

They said other potential applications include “classification, semantic similarity, semantic clustering, whitelist applications (selecting the right response from many alternatives) and semantic search (of which Talk to Books is an example).”

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been “betting big” on advances in AI and machine learning.

WhatsApp new update will let you download old deleted images

A new minor WhatsApp feature has been silently added to updates between 2.18.106 and 2.18.110. What this feature does is that it allows the WhatsApp user to download old media files in a chat even if they delete it from their local storage.

The feature will allow download of images, videos, voice messages, etc which were sent more as long as three months back. The only condition is that the message, which had the media attachment should not have been deleted by the sender, otherwise the download will not possible.

WhatsApp will be saving these media files in their servers for a much longer time. Earlier, the company would let the recipient of the media file to download it within a period of 30 days, after which it was deleted from the company’s server and hence couldn’t be recovered unless the sender releases it again.

During the testing of the feature, WABetaInfo discovered that they were able to recover the deleted files of up to two months. The report also adds that even though the files are saved on the server they still come with end-to-end encryption. This feature will turn out to be quite useful as often we accidentally delete some important files.

The company has rolled out this new upgrade for Android so far but it is expected to be launched for iOS soon.

WhatsApp also claims that it does not snoop on any of your messages shared on the platform. However, the Facebook-owned company can distinguish between the types of file shared on WhatsApp. It can distinguish between text, image, video and GIF files shared on WhatsApp.

Recently, the WhatsApp beta testers reported a mysterious timestamp bug in the messenger. Due to a mysterious bug, the timestamp on the chat window of users is appearing with numbers. For instance, instead of ‘Today’, messages which are exchanged on that day are appearing with “84oday”; instead of ‘Yesterday’ the timestamp is shown as “89esterday” for messages which are exchanged a day before.

2007 Mecca Masjid blasts: All accused, including Swami Aseemanand

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court at Nampally in Hyderabad on Monday, citing lack of evidence, acquitted five accused, including Swami Aseemanand, in the case of the bomb attack on the Mecca Masjid 11 years ago.

The blast, using an improvised explosive device, killed nine persons inside the masjid near the historic Charminar of Old City. The others acquitted are Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Bharath Mohan Lal Rateshwar and Rajendra Choundary.

The NIA had originally charged 10 persons with plotting and carrying out the attack on May 18, 2007. Accused Sunil Joshi of Madhya Pradesh, a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, was murdered when the case was investigated. Two other accused, former RSS pracharak Sandeep V. Dange and RSS activist and electrician Ramchandra Kalsangra, also from Madhya Pradesh, have been eluding the investigators. Investigations against two others from the same State, Tejram Parmar and Amith Chowhan, are continuing.

The verdict was pronounced amidst tight security around the Nampally Courts Complex. where all the accused were present. Police restricted the movement on roads leading to the court. Vehicles were directed to be parked more than a kilometre away from the court hall. Earlier, mediapersons staged a sit-in outside the court’s gates after being restricted by police from entering the complex.

Swami Aseemanand and Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar are out on bail while three others are lodged in the central prison in Hyderabad under judicial remand. In March 2017, a court in Rajasthan had sentenced Gupta and another convict to life in jail in the Ajmer Dargah blast case.

Apple may start iPhone 6s assembling in Bangalore soon to lower Indian prices

Apple may start making iPhone 6S Plus

Apple may start iPhone 6S Plus production at a new factory in southern India to lower the model’s price. It may start manufacturing in Bengluru, formerly known as Bangalore, in two weeks.

By setting up a local factory, Apple aims to slash Indian iPhone prices, as a response to government policies that tax foreign phones. India’s government raised tariffs on smartphones from 15 to 20 percent in February, forcing Apple to seek new measures to drop its prices and stay competitive.

Local manufacturing could cut prices by 5–7 percent, according to the report, if Apple manages to make all iPhone 6S Pluses sold in the Indian market domestically. If prices drop that low, iPhones could become as affordable as OnePlus phones or certain Samsung phones.

Another way for Apple to cut additional costs would be to make parts and packaging all within India as well. Earlier this month, the Indian government announced a 10 percent customs duty on circuitboards, camera modules, connectors, and other parts.

In India, the almost three-year-old iPhone 6S Plus remains popular as it costs less than other flagships like the iPhone 8 or X but has many of the same core features such as a 5.5-inch retina display, a 12-megapixel camera, and 4K video recording. The iPhone 6S Plus also has the advantage of coming in rose gold, a discontinued color for newer iPhones. Another, older model, the iPhone SE, is also succeeding in the market because of its cheaper price, in part a result of being built locally.

The iPhone 6S Plus will be the second phone assembled in India, but since it’s not fully manufactured there, it will still be subject to certain taxes. According to The Economic Times, Apple may add more models to
