Oppo’s New ‘Realme’ Online-Only Brand to Launch First Smartphone via Amazon India on May 15

Oppo's New 'Realme' Online-Only Brand to Launch First Smartphone via Amazon India on May 15

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has announced a new sub-brand named Realme that will cater exclusively to the online retail segment. The company has confirmed the smartphones launched under Realme branding will be exclusive to Amazon India.

This is the first major bet from Oppo, the fourth largest smartphone brand in India, to enter the online-only segment.

The company also confirmed that the first Realme smartphone will be called Realme 1 and it will launch on May 15, 2018. In the teaser page being put up by the Seattle-based e-commerce giant, Realme is being pitched as a smartphone brand catering to youth in the country and will include a wide range of devices. All the smartphones from Realme will be manufactured in India and will share Oppo’s production line in the country.

“Today, young consumers are looking for an affordable price option without compromising on the build-quality and the device performance. Realme phones will satisfy the needs of the young and online consumers through its exquisite design, leading specs, cutting-edge technology and industry-leading quality,” said Madhav Seth, Chief Executive Officer, Realme India.

“Smartphones continue to be one of our largest categories, making us the destination of choice for customers as well as brands. We are excited to partner with OPPO for the launch of their new sub-brand that appeals to savvy, young shoppers. With a focus on providing the best selection at the best prices and the convenience of fast & reliable delivery, we have and will continue to work customer backwards,” added Noor Patel, Director – Category Management, Amazon India.

Since it started operations in India, Oppo has mainly focused on the offline segment and it has only recently started making devices available from the online retail channels. With Realme, Oppo seems to be going in the direction of Xiaomi, which has always been the online-exclusive smartphone brand. However, it is not evident whether Oppo’s dual-brand strategy will work in India.

Huawei, with its Honor brand and Lenovo, with its Moto-brand, have both failed to create a major following for both the brands. In the smartphone side of business, it is Honor and Motorola that have worked for these brands and it needs to be seen how consumers respond to a new brand named Realme.

IPL 2018 : Hardik Pandya only the 2nd player in IPL history after Yuvraj Singh to create unique record

Ind Vs SL: Hardik Pandya to lead in T20I
Ind Vs SL: Hardik Pandya to lead in T20I

Mumbai Indians allrounder Hardik Pandya became the second player after Yuvraj Singh to score a 50 and pick a three-wicket haul in a losing effort in the Indian Premier League.

The 24-year-old Pandya, who ended the match as the top-scoring batsman from both sides, also became only the second batsman in tournament’s history to bag a fifty and 3-wicket-haul in the same match after Yuvraj Singh.

The same has happened four times in the league in total – including RCB vs MI match on Tuesday – with Yuvraj claiming the elusive feat on three of the previous occasions. Here are the details:

  • Yuvraj Singh: 50 & 3/22 against RCB in 2009
  • Yuvraj Singh: 66*& 4/29 against DD in 2011
  • Yuvraj Singh: 83 & 4/35 against RR in 2014
  • Hardik Pandya: 50 & 3/28 against RCB in 2018

In a dream over during the first half of the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians at the Chinnaswamy on Tuesday, Pandya picked up three important wickets – Mandeep Singh, Virat Kohli, and young Washington Sundar in a single over and gave away just two runs. Courtesy his good work, MI were able to restrict RCB to 167/7 in 20 overs. Later on with the bat, once again it was Pandya who top-scored for MI with a quickfire 42-ball 50 to take the game down to the wire before Tim Southee bowled a brilliant final over to take RCB over the finishing line.

Pandya’s three wickets also took him to the top of the list among bowlers with most wickets in IPL 11, thereby securing the purple cap. However, Pandya’s night began on a sour note as he gave away 20 runs in his first over. At that stage, he was looking completely out of sorts with his wayward line and length. However, the right-arm seamer made a brilliant comeback giving crucial breakthroughs to bring back his team into the match.

Chasing 168 to win the contest, MI were tottering at 84/5 when Pandya walked in to ensure that no further damage was done and forged a 56-run stand with brother Krunal Pandya. His half-century which featured five fours and one six was vital in MI’s chase. But he was eventually dismissed by Tim Southee. Apart from this, Hardik also effected a run-out of Brendon McCullum with a brilliant direct hit while fielding at mid-off. But all his endeavours went in vain as MI succumb to a bitter defeat.

Maharashtra government plans to promote 25 spots as top tourist destination

Maharashtra government plans to promote 25 spots as top tourist destination

The pristine Konkan strip, the beaches of Sindhudurg and the state capital will be among 25 places that the Maharashtra government plans to identify, develop and promote as top tourist destinations. The state tourism department’s list will be a mix of beaches, mountains, valleys, heritage and cultural sites, and adventure tourism.

“Once we identify the 25 places, we will create a hub-and-spoke model and promote them,” said VK Gautam, principal secretary, tourism and cultural affairs department.

Under the model, three main hubs — Mumbai, Aurangabad and Nagpur — will be identified, and attractions around these hubs will be promoted.

Calling it a “golden tourism access”, Gautam said, “Instead of spreading our resources thin, we are trying to concentrate on places that have value for tourists.”

VK Gautam said plans will be designed to attract Indian and international tourists. Another senior tourism department official said the government would design travel plans with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) , or jointly with a private player. “Currently, a lot of tour operators plan trips for tourists. They can use the hub-and-spoke model,” the official said.

The government also plans to develop infrastructure in the 25 places on its list, to make it more attractive to tourists. Apart from the Konkan strip and the state’s flagship tourism district Sindhudurg, Raigad Fort and Murud-Janjira may also make it to the list.

“With the new airports in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg getting operational soon, there will be a lot more foreign tourists coming to these places in the Konkan,” the official said. Gautam said the Ajanta Ellora and Pitalkhora caves, Lonar Lake and Ahmednagar Fort will all be part of the spoke around Aurangabad, while tiger sanctuaries at Tadoba, Pench and Nagzira, native tourism in tribal areas, historical sites in Gondia, Bhandara and Wardha will be a part of the Nagpur spoke.

The department is also planning to issue guidelines for the state’s Tourism Policy over the next three months. Gautam said the new tourism policy could contribute to state’s goal of becoming a trillion dollar economy by 2025.

“An industry survey showed that one tourist can create jobs for 16 people. With CM Devendra Fadnavis’ vision for a trillion dollar economy, tourism in Maharashtra has the potential to create 10% of that target,” Gautam said.

Subhash Goyal, an honorary general secretary of the Federation of Association of Indian Tourism and Hospitality, an umbrella organisation, welcomed the government’s “push” for tourism in the state. Goyal said Maharashtra has potential as a tourist hub, but its destinations were never marketed.

“Aurangabad and Nagpur have great potential, but the state has not marketed them.”

“The Ajanta Ellora caves are a popular destination, and if the state develops the site and employs guides in traditional attire, it will become another Taj Mahal.”

Ultra supercritical thermal power plants proposed in Nagpur, Maharashtra

Ultra supercritical thermal power plants proposed in Nagpur :

Maharashtra is likely to get its first ultra supercritical thermal power plant soon.

Two 800 MW units of thermal plants are proposed at Umred in Nagpur and the department is ready to approach the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) for approval.

“The technical and economic viability study for setting up the ultra supercritical units in Umred is complete. In the coming weeks, we will approach the MERC for approval. Once approved, we will float tenders” a senior official told.

While generation capacity is higher, such plants use lower quantities of coal. “Supercritical thermal power plants have low emission rates and cause at least eight times less pollution,” the official said.

The new units will not add to the state’s existing generation capacity, as it will replace the existing capacity.

The Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited has already decommissioned two units of 210 MW each at the Chandrapur power plant, one 210 MW unit at Parli plant and one 200 MW unit at Koradi power plant. In 2016, the Koradi unit was replaced by a 3,300 MW supercritical plant.

Once the plants are commissioned, some of the existing old thermal plants will be retired in line with the Centre’s resolve to phase out power plants older than 25 years and replace them with supercritical ones. While each unit of a supercritical thermal plant has a generation capacity of 660 MW, the two units coming up in Umred have a higher generation capacity.

Earlier this year, the department had awarded the contract for construction of one 660 MW thermal plant at Bhusawal in Jalgaon. Currently, the plant has two units of 210 MW each and another unit of 500 MW capacity. “Once the Bhusawal supercritical plant is commissioned, we will phase out the older ones,” said the official.

They prepare over 1,500 items over a period of two months during the year of the exam. All these questions are prepared by the item writers in original and they are handwritten. This year the Board had decided not to give any weightage to class 12 board exam marks and students have been ranked on the basis of JEE Main score only. However, students would need to present class 12th (regular/improvement) marksheet with 75 per cent marks at the reporting centres at the time of counselling/admission in IITs/NITs/IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutions.

Nagpur record decade’s highest temperature on Monday

nagpur_heat_highest temperature

Nagpur : Vidarbha region today continued to reel under intense heat. On Monday, Nagpur (45.6 degrees Celsius) and Yavatmal (44.5 degrees Celsius) recorded their highest temperature in 10 years — both 3 degrees Celsius above normal. Both locations surpassed their last year’s record of 45.5 degrees Celsius (Nagpur) and 44 degrees Celsius (Yavatmal) that was recorded on April 18.

Relief from the scorching heat is not expected anytime soon for these areas, as the weather bureau has predicted heat wave conditions for Vidarbha and some parts of Marathwada till May 3.

“There is continuous hot air advection (transfer of heat horizontally through the atmosphere) from northwest parts of the country and areas like Sindh, Balochistan and central Pakistan. Along with this a clear sky, and no moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal is leading to dry heat over all these areas,” said AD Tathe, director, Regional Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Nagpur. “These are normal conditions during this time of the year, but areas such as Chandrapur and Bhrampuri are unusually warmer than others. However, from Wednesday, we expect temperatures to drop. But it will remain an average of 44 degrees Celsius.”

Brahmpuri recorded 46 degrees Celsius, 4.2 degree Celsius above normal. “These locations are two of the highest maximum temperatures in India on Monday,” said Tathe.

Rajasthan too is reeling under similar weather conditions. Bundi, Phalodi, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer and Sawai Madhopur have recorded an average of 45 degrees Celsius, said IMD officials.

Meanwhile, day temperature in south Mumbai on Monday was a degree Celsius above normal as Colaba recorded 34 degrees Celsius. Santacruz, however, recorded normal the maximum temperature at 33.1 degrees Celsius. Night temperature was close to normal. For the third consecutive day, the air quality index (AQI) continued under the ‘satisfactory’ category in Mumbai at 56.

No steep curves on 704-km Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

mumbai-nagpur expressway-latest-ournagpur

While designs for construction of south Asia’s longest proposed Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, between Mumbai and Nagpur, are almost ready, the 704-km corridor will be the first in India to have no steep curves or turns.

Only curves as long as 2.5 km and not shorter than 700 metres have been planned, in order to avoid fatal accidents, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) officials said.

An MSRDC official said, “Our designs are almost ready for the expressway, and we are going to have 150-kmph as design speed but the speed limit will be restricted at 120-kmph.”

The official added, “Considering the speed limit is much more than that of other expressways, we are also planning rest areas and restaurants every 50 km.”

The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is a completely new alignment, known as a greenfield project.

The official said, “We are constructing a totally new alignment, and it is possible now to have long curves or turns instead of steep curves to avoid accidents in near future due steep or short curves.”

“The MSRDC has said that designs are made such that turns or curves do not come in abruptly and are planned accordingly.”

The corporation has divided the civil construction of the expressway into 16 packages between Bhiwandi and Nagpur. Every single package will be conducted by different contractors. It has also offered up to five per cent discount to contractors.

The bidding process for the Rs 30,000-crore project is currently ongoing. The overall cost of expressway, keeping aside the civil construction, is Rs 46,000 crore. Financial bids for the construction will be opened next week.

An MSRDC official said, “We are planning the width of medians up to 15-20 metres. In such a scenario, there is no scope of any vehicle ending on the other side because of the divider,” the MSRDC official said.

There will be no installation of safety nets or brifen wires on the dividers.Explaining the logic behind this, a MSRDC official, said, “The dividers of the corridor roughly is 20 metres width and divider is quite broad for any vehicles to not go other side and disturb the traffic from opposite direction. Also, brifen wires are being installed on Mumbai-Pune Expressway only because it’s median of only roughly 5 metres.”

The proposed Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is expected to have six lanes with additional two lanes reserved for service roads. The entire expressway is expected to bring down time to 10 hours from the current travel time taken of upto 17-20 hours.

NMC declines traffic police’s proposal to tow wrongly parked vehicles

NMC Nagpur Municipal Corporation नागपूर

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has declined the traffic police’s proposal to jointly appoint a private operator for towing away wrongly parked vehicles. Traffic police has been asked to continue its operation alone.

The standing committee on Friday rejected the proposal by traffic department. Chairman Virendra Kukreja said it was not the responsibility of the civic body to tow vehicles and recover penalties.

“Traffic police have been doing the job alone for years. They sent a proposal to NMC proposing that a private operator be appointed that will use modern towing vehicles, recover penalties and get its fees. There is no provision in the act for the civic body to levy penalty and act against vehicles,” he said.

Kukreja added that NOC would be given from NMC to traffic police for the project. “Traffic police will also be given NOC to park towed vehicles on NMC land whether on the side of the roads or on specially allotted land,” he said.

The committee approved the workshop department’s proposal to hire equipment for rivers and nullahs cleaning drive. “Mayor Nanda Jichkar announced the drive to clean Nag, Pili, Pora rivers and other nullahs would be held from May 7 to June 20. Equipment available with NMC is less so more will be hired,” he said.

Proposal to replace all lights in the NMC buildings with LEDs at the cost of Rs45.56 lakh was also cleared. Also, a proposal asking MahaMetro to rehabilitate 28 shopkeepers in temporary arrangements followed by permanent rehabilitation in construction of corridor and station near Cotton Market was also approved.

The standing committee declined fire department’s proposal to procure 32-metre high hydraulic platform from Government e-Market (GeM) portal and directed it to go for tendering. Two civic works were also refused and public works department asked to table proposal again after approval of budget.

Nagpur Metro may run on Indian Railways broad gauge tracks

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today (27 April) said that there are plans to run the Nagpur Metro’s coaches on the Indian Railways’ broad gauge railway tracks.

A pact on this is likely to be signed between Nagpur Metro and Indian Railways after Karnataka elections, the road transport and highways minister told reporters here. The minister said the idea mooted by him has been approved by the railways.

“The first experiment is being done in Nagpur,” the minister said, extending thanks to Coal and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal.

Nagpur Metro, like most other metro rail systems in India will have 1,435 mm-wide standard gauge coaches manufactured by China’s CRCC while Indian Railways uses the 1,676 mm-wide broad gauge track.

Gadkari said that the idea was originally proposed by him and accepted by the railways. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will likely be signed between the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) which is implementing the Nagpur Metro Project and the Indian Railways after the Karnataka state assembly elections scheduled for mid-May.

The entire train will be air-conditioned with four coaches and operate at a speed of 100 km/hr.

“The speed of the passenger train is 60 (km per hour). Its speed comes down to 30 (km per hour) before the halt at station and time is needed to increase speed. So I have asked them to stop the passenger train,” the minister said.

OnePlus 6 x Marvel Avengers Limited Edition Will Launch in India on May 17

oneplus 6

OnePlus has announced that it will globally unveil its flagship OnePlus 6 smartphone on May 16 and that the phone will be launched the next day in India, on May 17. The company has also confirmed that there will be a OnePlus 6 x Marvel Avengers Limited Edition smartphone, which will also be launched on May 17 in India, alongside the regular OnePlus 6.

OnePlus has released a teaser video giving a brief look at the 19:9 display of the Avengers edition OnePlus 6 x with a “unique” textured back. This comes soon after OnePlus announced its collaboration with Marvel Studios, hinting that it could launch an Avengers Infinity War edition OnePlus 6 smartphone, similar to last year’s OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition.

The upcoming OnePlus 6 x Marvel Avengers Limited Edition will feature design elements, which are inspired by the movie. The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition came with a red Alert Slider, a textured rear panel with the Star Wars logo, and we can expect something along the same lines for the upcoming OnePlus 6’s special edition smartphone. Almost everything about the OnePlus 6 has already been revealed by the company itself and some reports and renders have given us a more concrete idea of how it could look in terms of design.

The OnePlus 6 will feature a notch on top of its display, as the company believes that it is the best way to provide more screen real estate to its users. For those customers who are averse to the notch, there will be a compatibility mode to hide it, presumably by blacking out the sides of the notch. The smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and 8GB RAM.

It will also be splash or waterproof and come with 256GB of internal storage, both features being a first for the brand. The handset will retain the 3.5mm audio jack and come with gesture-based controls as well. The device will be an Amazon exclusive and one can register to get notified. Their Prime customers will also get an added advantage of buying the smartphone by accessing the sale ahead of time at 12:00 PM IST on May 21, 2018.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli recommended for Khel Ratna by BCCI

विराट कोहली Virat Kohli

The Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on Thursday recommended Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s name for country’s highest sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. The development was confirmed by the BCCI.

This is the second time Virat Kohli’s name has been recommended for the Khel Ratna award by the country’s cricket board. In 2016, the BCCI had recommended Kohli’s name for the coveted award but unfortunately he did not receive the same.

The prestigious award is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four years.

If Kohli wins the prestigious award, he will become the third Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (1998) and MS Dhoni (2007) to do so. The 29-year-old Kohli had earlier been awarded the Padma Shri in 2017 and had also won an Arjuna award in 2013.

Also the BCCI has recommended former India captain Rahul Dravid for the prestigious Dronacharya award.

Confirming Rahul Dravid’s nomination, CoA chief Vinod Rai told, “Yes, we have sent a number of nominations in various categories to the government. Rahul is the BCCI nominee for the Dronacharya award.”

Dravid has been nominated for successfully guiding India U-19 team to World Cup title earlier this year. Under his guidance, the Colts batch of 2016 played the finals. He has worked with India A team as well and forms the bridge between international and junior cricket.

Legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar’s name has been recommended for Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award.

BCCI had stopped sending nominations for Dronacharya awards due to multiple coaches at times claiming credit for a player’s success.

“It happened when a former India opener had signed two nominations where coaches claimed that the player worked under them. From then, we had stopped sending nominations,” a senior BCCI official said.

In the first phase, the DRAL is assembling cockpit along with landing gear and other parts. A team of 50 experts including five engineers and 30 local technicians are working in this project. Expansion of the project would provide jobs to many engineers.

The unit set up at the MIHAN SEZ in Nagpur is part of Reliance Aerospace Park which is coming up on in an area of 106 acres. At this Park, the DRAL project is on 56 acre land. In the beginning, production of Falcon jet cockpit and spare parts has commenced. The set up of machinery and actual work was done under the leadership of DRAL’s Chief Executive Officer Sampatkumar and Chief Operating Officer Robert Loock within 60 days. Both these officers were camping in city since September 2107. A workshop for providing hi-tech training for new recruits has been set up. At the outset, five engineers were given six-month training in Dassault Aviation Company in France and the 30 local technicians were trained at a special training centre in Kamptee.

The production of entire Falcon business jet will be done in three years and that of Tafale fighter jet in five years at Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park. Under this obligation, the Dassault Reliance Aerospace Ltd has commenced the project at MIHAN SEZ.

Maharashtra plastic ban: Indian Railways may introduce paper glasses

maharashtra

Following the plastic ban imposed in Maharashtra, railway authorities are considering replacing plastic glasses with paper glasses at water vending machines, catering stalls and on-board of trains stalls. The Central Railway (CR) is also aiming to make its stations free of all the plastic items, which have been banned by the state government.

In a meeting which will be held this week between CR officials, railway catering staff, Indian Railway Catering Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) officials and railway station stall owners, a decision to introduce recyclable plastic materials and to completely stop the use of the banned plastic products will be taken.

“The maharashtra government has given a time period to implement the plastic ban. We would be looking at all the available options to replace plastic products. We will implement the ban strictly at all our railway stations. We would also be discussing the installation of recycling machines in the meeting,” said SK Jain, divisional railway manager, CR.

Further, the railways also plan to introduce a Do’s and Don’ts manual with respect to plastic products. The manual would consist of a list of plastic products which cannot be used by the food stall owners at stations.

A senior CR official  said “Jingles on avoiding the use of plastic products are also being prepared which will be played at the stations to make commuters aware about the ban and the harmful effects of plastic,” .

Currently, the railways distribute pantry food in plastic containers in the trains and sell products in plastic packets on the stations. Some of these products include plastic water bottles, cups and plastic bags.

The notification issued by the state government on the plastic ban has given a period of three months to the manufacturers, distributors and retailers to dispose of the existing stock of banned plastic materials. Recently, the Bombay high court had refused to stay the state government decision on plastic ban.

DJ Snake's Latest Music Video of Magenta Riddim Shot in India

“Magenta Riddim” DJ Snake first came to India with Major Lazer to shoot what would become one of the world’s most popular music videos – Lean On. The music video had Govinda-inspired dance moves, lots of colour, Indian motifs and a notably blinged-up local roadways bus.

Well, the French DJ and producer wanted to pay tribute to the massive influence Indian music has had on his career, and he came back to India to shoot yet another music video, and this one is literally on fire.

Magenta Riddim ?

A post shared by djsnake (@djsnake) on

The music video (above) for Magenta Riddim is a comedic epic that follows a squad of the world’s happiest firefighters in Telangana who can’t seem to stop dancing. Schooled by Snake, who poses as a French firefighter, the firefighting squad is the pride and joy of the town, greeted by hardcore fans, who also can’t stop dancing (probably because of the catchy dance number). The firefighters go on hilarious Tollywoodesque fire-fighting adventures around town on their pimped-up fire truck, until they meet their biggest challenge yet, and find a dark twist in the story.

Directed by Gal Muggia and Vania Heymann, the video was shot in March 2018 in Hyderabad and parts of Telangana with the help of local talent. According to Snake’s Instagram post, he thinks this was his best video ever, thanks to the “colours, the people, the music, the culture” of India.

Maharashtra may soon get its own fossil park with replicas of dinosaurs and exhibits of their bones and plant fossils dating back to the pre-historic period.

Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra is set to become a first-of-its-kind tourism destination by getting the country’s first fossil park. As of now, the project is still at initial stage as Maharashtra’s Directorate of Archaeology and Museums is still working to gather all the required data and information from all the concerned departments like Geological Survey of India (GSI).

“The proposed Wadadham fossil park is located in Sironcha Taluka which is at the southern tip of the Gadchiroli district. The present proposed area for the fossil park represents upper Gondwana Kota formations belonging to early Jurassic period and the scientific investigations have revealed that present area was near sea,” said Tushar Chavan, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Sironcha, Gadchiroli circle.

Yatbon WI, Chief Conservator of Forests, Gadchiroli, said the centre, which is located around 400km from Nagpur, in the red corridor, would educate people on fossils and natural history.

“The area is being developed as a fossil park as dinosaur bones, plant and fish fossils have been recovered. The work is expected to be completed by March-end. We have gone in for in-situ conservation of fossils after identifying and cleaning them,” said Tushar Chavan.

The forest department of the state is in touch with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), GSI, Maharashtra Government, GSI, Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, and other departments to give a shape to this project. A senior official from the state’s Directorate of Archaeology and Museums informed that efforts are being taken to keep original objects as a lot of fossils are found in Sironcha Forest Division in Gadchiroli district. It is expected that once this project becomes operational, it will help boost tourism in this region, which will in turn help the locals improve their living condition.

Nagpur : Green Metro stations coming soon

MahaMetro is looking at a greener way for travelling to-and-fro to the Metro station. The Metro will drive the city into a green revolution. The stations that are being developed on the route are all set to transport Nagpurians in a world-class infrastructure.

Recently, MahaMetro’s three stations — Khapri, Airport South and New Airport — have been awarded with the highest ‘platinum rating’ from the Indian Green Building Council. From solar energy to rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment and reuse to eco-friendly transportation — every green concept that one can think of is under one roof.

Airport South is reportedly the first Metro station in the country to implement the Bio-digester technology which was dedicated to the Swachh Bharat Mission by the Defence Research and Development Organization.

Avinash Yemde, senior environmental expert and consultant of the project, informed that GPS-enabled bicycles will be available at the stations. “For instance, a person wants to shop in Sitabuldi. He can get down at the nearest station, hire a bicycle, shop and then return it. To keep track on the cycles, we will be enabling them with GPS,” said Yemde.

The stations will be equipped with rainwater harvesting system to avoid wastage of rainwater and to recharge groundwater. The rooms at the stations are designed in a way that no external lights are required during the day, thus saving on electricity. All stations will ensure proper ventilation. The soil removed during construction is being used for planting native trees, which require less water, on the stations’ premises. Recycled glass, terracotta tiles and fly-ash from Koradi power station have been used for construction. The glasses absorb external heat, thus keeping the rooms cool.

Platforms will have a ‘priority area’ from where physically challenged, visually impaired, senior citizens or pregnant women can enter the train. They will also be provided wheelchairs and dedicated seats. Lifts and escalators will be controlled by Variable Voltage Variable Frequency drive which is a type of adjustable speed drive. There will be separate baby care rooms where needs of infants can be attended to.

Also Passengers can contact Metro staffer at customer care department for any inquiry or feedback. All stations and trains will have panic buttons.
