The central government on Thursday hit back at Twitter and said the social media giant should stop beating around the bush and comply with the rules framed by the Ministry of Information and Technology.
In a statement, the government said it “strongly controverts” the claims made by Twitter in its press release.
“India has a glorious tradition of free speech and democratic practices dating back centuries. Protecting free speech in India is not the prerogative of only a private, for-profit, foreign entity like Twitter, but it is the commitment of the world’s largest democracy and its robust institutions,” the government said in the statement.
It added that Twitter’s statement is an “attempt to dictate its terms to the world’s largest democracy”. The government also accused Twitter of trying to undermine India’s legal system with its “actions and deliberate defiance”.
“Twitter needs to stop beating around the bush and comply with the laws of the land. Law making and policy formulations is the sole prerogative of the sovereign, and Twitter is just a social media platform and it has no locus in dictating what should India’s legal policy framework should be,” the government said.

या निर्णयामुळे ग्रामीण तसंच आदिवासी भागातल्या विद्यार्थ्यांना शिक्षणाचा लाभ घेता येईल. आत्तापर्यंत इंग्रजीच्या भीतीने अनेक हुशार विद्यार्थी इंजिनीयरिंगपासून दूर राहिले आहे. जर्मनी, फ्रान्स, रशिया, जपान, चीन अशा देशांमध्ये त्यांच्या स्थानिक भाषांमधून शिक्षण दिलं जातं.
AICTEचे अध्यक्ष अनिल सहस्रबुद्धे म्हणाले की विद्यार्थ्यांना जर त्यांच्या मातृभाषेमध्ये तांत्रिक शिक्षण घेता आलं तर त्यांचा पाया मजबूत व्हायला मदत होईल. आम्हाला पूर्ण देशामधून एकूण ५०० अर्ज आले आहेत. भविष्यात आम्ही इंजिनीयरिंगचं पदव्युत्तर शिक्षण आणखी ११ भाषांमधून देण्यासंदर्भातलं नियोजन करत आहोत.
तसंच AICTE या सर्व कोर्सच्या अभ्यासासाठी लागणारी पुस्तकं,नोट्स हे सर्व काही या भाषांमध्ये उपलब्ध आहे. त्याचबरोबर स्वयम आणि MOOC या पोर्टल्सवरचं साहित्यही या भाषांमध्ये भाषांतरीत केलं असल्याचं सहस्रबुद्धे यांनी टाईम्स ऑफ इंडियाशी बोलताना सांगितलं.
मुंबई : राज्यात करोनाची दुसरी लाट ओसरत असल्याचं समोर येत आहे. यामुळे १ जून नंतर लॉकडाऊन उठणार की पुन्हा वाढणार यावर सध्या चर्चा सुरू आहे. याबद्दल अद्याप सरकारने कोणतेही स्पष्ट संकेत दिलेले नाहीत. तर काही मंत्र्यांनी लॉकडाऊन उघडणार असल्याचा सुतोवाच केला आहे. त्यामुळे लॉकडाऊन उठणार की लांबणार यावर आज महत्त्वाचा निर्णय येण्याची शक्यता आहे.
मिळालेल्या माहितीनुसार, आज दुपारी साडेतीन वाजता राज्यमंत्रीमंडळाची बैठक होणार आहे. यामध्ये लॉकडाऊन वाढणार की शिथिल होणार यावर निर्णय होण्याची शक्यता वर्तवण्यात येत आहे. त्यामुळे आजच्या या बैठकीकडे सगळ्यांचं लक्ष लागून आहे.
खरंतर, एप्रिल- मे महिन्यात राज्यात करोना रुग्णांच्या संख्येनं उच्चांक गाठला होता. करोना संसर्गाची साखळी तोडण्यासाठी राज्य सरकारने एप्रिलमहिन्यात लॉकडाऊन घोषित केला होता. त्यानंतर टप्याटप्यानं या लॉकडाऊनमध्ये वाढ करण्यात आली होती. मे महिन्याच्या १५ तारखेपासून करोना रुग्णांची संख्या काही प्रमाणात अटोक्यात येत आहे. त्यामुळं १ जून पासून राज्यातील कठोर निर्बंध शिथील होणार असल्याच्या चर्चांना उधाण आलं आहे.
करोनाचा प्रादुर्भाव आता नियंत्रणात आला आहे. मुंबईतील स्थिती नियंत्रणात आहे. नाशिक, नागपूरमधील स्थितीदेखील दिलासादायक आहे. त्यामुळं या भागातील निर्बंध १ जून पासून काहीप्रमाणात शिथील केले जातील. निर्बंध एकहाती मागे घेण्यात येणार नसून टप्याटप्यानं मागे घेतले जातील, असं सूचक विधान राजेश टोपे यांनी केलं होतं. त्यानुसार राज्य सरकारही महाराष्ट्र अनलॉक करण्यास अनुकुल असल्याचं बोललं जात आहे.
१ जून पासून राज्य सरकार काही गोष्टींवरील निर्बंध मागे घेण्याच्या तयारीत आहेत. त्यानुसार पहिल्या व दुसऱ्या टप्प्यात व्यापाऱ्यांना दुकानं उघडण्याची परवानगी देण्यात येणार आहे. लॉकडाऊनमध्ये दुकानदारांना सकाळी ७ ते ११पर्यंत दुकानं उघडण्याची मुभा देण्यात आली होती. मात्र, अनलॉकच्या पहिल्या टप्प्यात हे निर्बंध मागे घेण्यात येऊन पूर्ण दिवस दुकानं सुरु ठेवण्याची परवानगी देण्याची शक्यता वर्तवण्यात येत आहे.
तिसऱ्या टप्प्यात हॉटेल, रेस्टॉरंट, बार व मद्यालय या सेवा सुरु करण्यात येतील. तर, चौथ्या टप्प्यात करोना परिस्थितीचा आढावा घेऊन सरकार मुंबई लोकल व धार्मिक स्थळांबाबत निर्णय घेण्याची शक्यता आहे. तसंच, ज्या जिल्ह्यात कडक लॉकडाऊन लागू करण्यात आला आहेत तिथं रुग्णसंख्या पाहून निर्णय घेण्यात येणार आहे.

In a shocking incident, a man killed his one-year-old son at Wakodi village near Khapa because he wished to have a daughter. The accused father is now cooling heels behind the bars at Khapa Police Station. The accused was identified as Bhajan Metab Kawreti (40), a resident of Wakodi village. According to police, Bhajan married Mathura (32) in 2016. Bhajan and Mathura are daily wage workers. They had their first child in 2017 while their second child last year. After the birth of first baby boy, Bhajan was expecting a daughter. But he became father of one more son last year. Since then, he used to tell his wife Mathura that he was expecting a daughter.
This was the point of friction between the couple many times. On Tuesday night, he asked Mathura for money to consume liquor but she refused. He got angered and picked a quarrel with her. In a fit of rage, he picked his one-year-old son Satyam and smashed him on the ground in the courtyard. The boy sustained grievous head injuries. Blood was oozing out from his head and he died at home before getting medical treatment.
Bhajan kept the body of son in the house. Khapa police got the information about the murder from Police Patil of the village. The police, led by Police Inspector Ajay Mankar, rushed to the spot and arrested the man. The body was sent for the post-mortem. He was booked under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code. “The accused would be produced in the court on Thursday,” said PI Mankar.
According to Avinash Shekhar, Co-CEO of ZebPay, the government setting up a panel will be a step in the right direction. “We believe that the government will consult with all stakeholders and take a calibrated approach in regulating cryptos in India and ensure all investors who have invested in cryptos are protected,” Shekhar.
Sharat Chandra, Blockchain Expert, IET Future Tech Panel, said India’s crypto ecosystem has definitely come of age. With more than 1.5 crore retail investors holding digital assets worth 15,000 crores, crypto is definitely a force to reckon with.
“The crypto community has always spoken, in unison, about their willingness to be regulated. In the absence of regulation, the cryptocurrency industry stares at an uncertain future,” said Chandra.
Commenting on the recent bloodbath in crypto markets, which spooked many first time crypto investors and raised concerns about investor protection, Chandra said, “Once crypto exchanges start embracing governance and investor protection guidelines, meant for stock exchanges, risks associated with volatility can be fairly addressed.”
“There has to be a well-defined regulation with respect to cryptocurrencies. Regulation with adequate investor protection and compliance would augur well for the crypto industry. It remains to be seen how the newly constituted government panel views digital currencies- as an asset class, commodity, utility or otherwise,” he added.
मुझफ्फरनगर: उत्तर प्रदेशच्या मुझफ्फरनगर जिल्ह्यात एका ३७ वर्षीय व्यक्तीनं त्याच्या पत्नीची गोळी झाडून हत्या केली आहे. गेल्या १५ दिवसांपासून पत्नीनं शारिरीक संबंध ठेवण्यास नकार दिल्यानं नाराज झालेल्या पतीनं पत्नीचा खून केला. त्यामुळे महिलेचा मृत्यू झाला. यानंतर आरोपीनं स्वत:च्या ३ मुलांना कालव्यात फेकलं. मुझफ्फरनगरमधील बसेडी गावात ही घटना घडली. या मुलांचा शोध अद्याप लागलेला नाही.
पत्नीचा खून करणाऱ्या आरोपीला पोलिसांनी ताब्यात घेतलं आहे. ‘पत्नी १५ दिवसांपासून शरीरसंबंधास नकार देत होती. सकाळी तिनं न ऐकल्यास तिची हत्या करायची असा निश्चय आदल्या रात्रीच केला होता आणि तेच झालं. सकाळी पत्नीनं जवळ येण्यास नकार दिला. त्यामुळे तिची गोळी झाडून हत्या केली,’ अशी माहिती पतीनं चौकशीदरम्यान पोलिसांना दिली.
पत्नीची हत्या केल्यानंतर पती मुलांना घेऊन कालव्याजवळ पोहोचला. पत्नीनंतर मुलांचं पालनपोषण कोण करणार, या विचारानं त्यानं मुलांना कालव्यात फेकून दिलं. सानिया, वंश आणि हर्षिता अशी या मुलांची नावं आहेत. यापैकी हर्षिता केवळ १५ महिन्यांची आहे. स्थानिकांनी या घटनेची माहिती पोलिसांना दिली. त्यानंतर पोलिसांनी आरोपी पतीला अटक केली. त्याचं नाव पप्पू असं आहे. कालव्यात फेकण्यात आलेल्या मुलांचा शोध सुरू आहे. मात्र अद्याप एकही मूल हाती लागलेलं नाही. पोलिसांनी पप्पूला तुरुंगात पाठवलं असून प्रकरणाचा तपास सुरू आहे.
Third Wave: तिसऱ्या लाटेला कशा पद्धतीनं सामोरं जायचं याचीही तयारी सुरु आहे. कोरोनाच्या तिसऱ्या लाटेत लहान मुलांना सर्वाधिक धोका असल्याचं सांगितलं जात आहे.

The Indian Academy of Paediatrics नं केंद्र सरकारला पत्र लिहिलं आहे. या पत्रात कोरोनाची तिसरी लाट आल्यास लहान मुलांना किती प्रभावीपणे वाचवलं जाऊ शकतं हे नमूद करण्यात आलं आहे. दरम्यान कोविड 19 ची लागण झाल्यानंतर होणारे परिणाम हे जास्त गंभीर असण्याची शक्यता डॉक्टरांनी वर्तवली आहे.
कोरोनामुक्त झालेल्या रुग्णांना म्युकरमायकोसिस सारखा संसर्ग होण्याचा धोका असल्याचंही इंडियन असोसिएशन ऑफ पेडियाट्रिशियन्सचे संसर्गजन्य रोग अध्यक्ष डॉ. रविशंकर म्हणाले. सीरम करत असलेल्या सर्व्हेनुसार, कर्नाटकातील काही डॉक्टर रुग्णालयात जाऊन तिथे येणाऱ्या लहान मुलांची तपासणी करत आहेत. तसंच त्यांच्यामध्ये कोरोना व्हायरस अँटीबॉडीज आहेत का याचीही तपासणी सुरु आहे.
30 टक्के मुलांना होऊन गेला कोरोना?
30 टक्के मुलांना आधीच संसर्ग झाला असून ते त्यातून बरे झाले असल्याची माहिती रविशंकर यांनी दिली. आतापर्यंत घरातल्या मोठ्यांना कोरोनाची लागण झाली आहे. त्यामुळे कुटुंबातील मोठ्यांना कोरोनाची लागण झाल्यानं मुलांना सहज त्याची लागण होण्याची शक्यता असल्याचं डॉ. रविशंकर यांनी सांगितलं. बऱ्याच जणांना कोरोनाची लागण झाल्याचं समजतं नाही आणि अशा लोकांनी या कोरोनावर मात देखील केली आहे, असंही डॉ. रविशंकर म्हणालेत. तरुण मुलांच्या फुफ्फुसांमध्ये रिसेप्टर्स (An organ) पुरेसे नसतात, त्यामुळे कोविडमुळे होणारे गंभीर नुकसान हे कमीच अपेक्षित असतात, असंही त्यांनी म्हटलं आहे.
New Delhi: A Delhi-based YouTuber has been arrested for making his pet dog float up in the air by tying hydrogen balloons on its back. The man, whose channel is called “GauravZone”, had recently uploaded the video which created huge outrage online.
The now-deleted video shows the YouTuber, a few others and Dollar, his pet dog, in a park. A bunch of colourful hydrogen balloons are tied to the dog’s upper body. “The upper body has started flying a little,” Gaurav explains as he demonstrates the act, pulling up the string of balloons, further lifting the dog.
He then nudges the dog to run, saying it will fly up in the air if it runs. A woman too is seen holding the pet. Guarav says they have tied two more balloons to it and that this could make it float. In moments, the dog is seen floating away before the woman manages to catch hold of it.
In the same video, the YouTuber sits on top of a four-wheeler in a narrow street and flies Dollar up in the air using hydrogen balloons. The dog is seen floating up to a balcony on the second floor of a building.
A case has been registered against Gaurav, who has over four million subscribers on YouTube, and his mother, in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar police station under various sections of the law.
Three days ago, he had put out an apology video, explaining why he deleted the ‘flying dog’ video. He said he had taken “all safety measures” before flying his pet.
“Before making the video, I had taken all the safety measures. I had said this in the video but did not upload this part as it would’ve increased the length of the video. It was a mistake on my part. All I want to say is that I had made the video with all the safety measures… wrong content went out and it should not have happened,” he said.
Apologising to his viewers and animal lovers, he said he treats his pet” like a child”. “I apologise if you felt bad after watching the Dollar video. I won’t try such things again. Those who’re getting influenced by such things, please don’t get influenced. If sentiments have been hurt, I truly seek your apology.”
Nagpur: The district reported 685 fresh novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and 16 fatalities in last 24-hours. In the day, total 1,754 people successfully recovered from the virus borne disease, taking the numbers of cumulative recovered to 4,54,095.
As per the official report, out of the total positive cases, 341 were from rural areas and 339 cases from Nagpur city alone while five cases were reported from out of the district. While out of total deaths, four were reported from Nagpur city, five deaths were registered from outside the district, while seven casualties were reported from Nagpur rural.
With the latest update, the total number of cases has surged to 4,72,696 while the number of deaths rose to 8,838.
In the day 1,754 patients were successfully recovered from the virus borne disease taking the numbers of total recovered patients at 4,54,095. Following which recovery rate has improved to 96.11%
After the fresh updates, the total active cases in the city now stand at 9,763 including asymptomatic cases advised for home isolation.

फायझरने (Pfizer) त्यांच्या कोरोना लसीच्या वापरासाठी मंजुरी मागत भारतीय अधिकाऱ्यांना ही लस भारतात सापडलेल्या व्हेरिअंटबाबतही अधिक प्रभावशाली असल्याचे म्हटले आहे. तसेच ही लस १२ वर्षांपेक्षा अधिक वयाच्या मुलांनाही दिली जाऊ शकते असे कंपनीने म्हटले आहे. कंपनीची नुकतीच भारतीय अधिकाऱ्यांसोबत एक बैठक पार पडली. यामध्ये जागतिक आरोग्य संघटना आणि अन्य देशांमध्ये केलेल्या चाचणीद्वारेर ही लस किती प्रभावी आहे यासंदर्भातील समोर आलेली आकडेवारीही सादर करण्यात आली.
दरम्यान, कंपनीने लसीच्या वापरासाठी फास्ट ट्रॅक मंजुरी देण्यासाठी विनंती केली आहे. याशिवाय प्रतिकुल परिस्थितीत नुकसान भरपाईसारख्या दाव्यांतून सुरक्षेसहित महत्त्वाच्या बाबतीत नियमकाने सूट दिली तर जुलै ते ऑक्टोबर या काळात ५ कोटी डोस रोल आऊट करेल, असे कंपनीने म्हटलेआहे. सध्या देशात Covishield, Covaxin आणि Sputnik V या लसींच्या वापरास मंजुरी मिळाली आहे. यांना कोणत्याही प्रकारची सूट सरकारनं दिली नाही जशी Pfizer कडून मागण्यात येत आहे.
RESCUE operations are underway in Odisha and West Bengal and teams are clearing a large number of uprooted electric poles and trees to keep roads open in these States which were hit by cyclone Yaas on Wednesday, a National Disaster Response Force official said. The cyclone completed its landfall around noon packing strong winds and heavy rainfall along the Odisha coast and neighbouring areas of West Bengal. “It (Yaas) is very likely to move north-westwards across interior Odisha and weaken gradually,” a spokesperson for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said. He said the force has evacuated thousands of people to safer places in close co-ordination with local administrations in both the States. “Rescue operations are still continuing as large number of trees and electric poles are uprooted after the cyclone-hit the land,” the spokesperson said.
“The teams are removing them from roads to keep communication lines clear and this process is still on. Rescuers are making all out efforts to bring normalcy in the affected areas,” he said. A total of 113 teams were deployed by the federal contingency force in the two States and adjoining areas for launching relief and rescue in the wake of the cyclone. “As the cyclone hit, rainfall in the region has led to inundation of low-lying areas. Many trapped persons were rescued by the NDRF including an infant with three family members after their house collapsed due to heavy rains in Odisha,” the spokesperson said. He added that hundreds of stranded persons were also rescued in West Bengal. Three people were saved from drowning, the spokesperson said.
The force urges people to restrict their movement till the situation becomes normal and take proper precautionary measures while returning to their homes, he said. The cyclone which hit the coast north of Dhamra in Bhadrak district and 50 km south of Balasore, close to Bahanaga block, around 9 am, also blown away roofs of many kutcha houses in the districts.

Delivering his keynote address on the occasion of Vesak Global Celebrations on Buddha Pournima through video conference, Prime Minister said, there have been many noteworthy improvements as well over the last year like having a better understanding of the pandemic, which strengthens our strategy to fight.
The Prime Minister thanked the first responders, front-line healthcare workers, doctors, nurses and volunteers for selflessly risking their lives to serve those in need. He expressed condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. “A year later, COVID-19 pandemic has still not left us and several nations, including India, have experienced a second wave.” The Prime Minister said, while fighting COVID-19, one must not lose sight of the other challenges faced by humanity like climate change.
Modi said that the reckless lifestyles of the present generation are threatening the future generations and resolved not to let our planet remain wounded. He reminded of Lord Buddha’s emphasis on a way of life where respect for Mother Nature is paramount. He announced that India is among the few large economies to be on track to achieve its Paris targets. “For India, sustainable living is not only about the right words but also about the right actions.” He appealed to the world to come together in the fight against forces trying to spread hate, terror and mindless violence.
Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested two persons allegedly involved in the adulteration of milk after raiding their hideout in Versova. The two accused were mixing dirty water into original packets of milk from branded companies.
The cops recovered 294 litres of adulterated milk, a stove, candles and empty packets of milk from the accused.
The accused have been identified as Narsimha Kotapeli (46) and Mahesh Mandra (37). They have been charged under IPC sections 272, 273, 482, 468, 420 and 34. The duo has been handed over to the Versova Police Station for further investigation.
DCP Akbar Pathan said, “Unit 10 of Mumbai crime branch received tip off about milk adulteration. A place in four bungalows, Versova was raided very early morning by crime branch team. Two accused were caught red handed doing milk adulteration. They opened the original packets of milk and removed half of the milk from the packets. Later, they filled the other half of packets with water. It was later sealed through fire. Milk packets of very known and renowned companies are mixed like Amul and Mahananda.”
According to police officials, this racket was going on for some time.
नागपूर : देशात एके काळी एक लाख १० हजारांवर धानाच्या प्रजाती होत्या. मागील ५० वर्षांत त्या लुप्तप्राय झाल्या असताना विदर्भासाठी आशादायक बातमी आहे. या लुप्तप्राय झालेल्या धानाच्या प्रजातींपैकी ६० प्रजाती तब्बल ५० वर्षांनंतर भंडारा जिल्ह्यातील मातीवर उगवणार आहेत. भंडारातील ग्रामीण युवा प्रागतिक मंडळाला प्रायोगिक तत्त्वावर एनबीपीजीआर आणि भारतीय कृषी विज्ञान केंद्राकडून हे बीज मिळाले आहे. मागील १० वर्षांपासूनच्या त्यांच्या अभ्यासपूर्ण प्रयत्नांना यश आले आहे.
२०१२ मध्ये आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तरावर जैवविविधतेसंदर्भात परिषद झाली होती. त्यात लुप्त होत चाललेल्या प्रजातींना वाचविण्याचा विचार पुढे आला. त्यातून २०१४ मध्ये केंद्र सरकारचा पायलट प्रोजेक्ट तयार झाला होता. राजीव गांधी विज्ञान तंत्रज्ञान आयोग पुणे यांच्याकडे महाराष्ट्र जनुक कोष उभारण्याचे काम सोपविण्यात आले होते. याअंतर्गत भंडारा, गोंदिया, गडचिरोली आणि चंद्रपूर चार जिल्ह्यांत प्रायोगिक तत्त्वावर हा प्रकल्प राबविण्यात आला. साकोली, भंडारा, मोरगाव अर्जुनी, सडक अर्जुनी, ब्रह्मपुरी आणि नागभीड या सहा तालुक्यांतील ३०० गावांमध्ये या प्रकल्पांतर्गत काम झाले होते. लुप्त होत चाललेल्या धानाच्या प्रजातीचे संवर्धन आणि बीज उत्पादन आणि लागवड असा यामागील उद्देश होता. यात भंडारा जिल्ह्यातील ग्रामीण युवा प्रागतिक मंडळाचाही सहभाग होता.
या प्रकल्पानंतरही ग्रामीण युवा प्रागतिक मंडळाने सतत पाठपुरावा सुरू ठेवला होता. मंडळाचे सचिव अनिल बोरकर यांनी अनेक राष्ट्रीय परिषदांमध्ये सहभागी होऊन प्रेझेंटेशनही सादर केले होते. त्यांच्या प्रयत्नाला आता यश आले असून, एन.बी.पी.जी.आर. (नॅशनल ब्युरो ऑफ प्लॉट जेनेटिक रिसर्च) नवी दिल्ली यांच्याकडून या मंडळाला धानाच्या ६० दुर्मीळ प्रजाती मिळाल्या आहेत. यासोबतच, कर्नाटकातील एका संस्थेला भाजीपाला बियाणे, ओरिसातील संस्थेला भरडधान्य, तर हिमाचल प्रदेशातील संस्थेला मक्याचे प्रकार दिले आहेत. महाराष्ट्रात एकमेव भंडाऱ्यामध्ये यंदाच्या धानाच्या हंगामात हा प्रयोग होणार आहे.
धानाच्या ६० प्रकारच्या प्रजातींच्या बिजाईसोबत जवसाची ४८ आणि लाखोळीची ३२ प्रकारची बिजाईसुद्धा मिळाली आहे. ही बिजाई प्रत्येकी २० ग्रॅम असून, एन.बी.पी.जी.आर.च्या मुख्य वैज्ञानिक डॉ. प्रतिभा ब्राह्मी यांच्या स्वाक्षरीने ती देण्यात आली. हैदराबादमधील आरआरसी नेटवर्क या प्रयोगशाळेत योग्य तापमानामध्ये ती ठेवण्यात आली असून, रोवणीच्या हंगामात आणली जात आहे.
भारतीय पारंपरिक कृषी पद्धतीअंतर्गत साडेतीन एकरामध्ये आम्ही ही बिजाई लावणार आहोत. यासाठी आवश्यक ते प्रशिक्षण मागील पाच वर्षांत झाले आहे. विदर्भातील धानपट्ट्याला मिळालेली ही उत्तम संधी आहे. आपले हरवलेले धानाचे देशी वाण यातून परत मिळवू शकू, असा विश्वास आहे.

प्रत्येक धानाची वेगळी गुणवैशिष्ट्ये आहेत. नैसर्गिक खनिजे, घटक त्यात मूलत: आहेत. मूळ जाती नष्ट झाल्यास जैवविविधतेला धोका आहे. दुर्मीळ प्रजातींच्या संवर्धनासाठी शेतकऱ्यांनी पुढे येण्याची गरज आहे.
RTMNU issues notification for PG admission, form on portal
Nagpur: The Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University has decided to take the examination of the students of some courses of the first semester which failed in the winter examination in the month of June.
As per the University circular, Compulsory English, Supplementary English, Marathi and Hindi and other compulsory languages of BA, first Semester Winter Examination 2020 of Marathi, English Literature, Supplementary English, Compulsory English subject of BCA, B.Sc, and B.Sc (IT) first semester.
The exams for all the failed students will be conducted at the college level. The principals and teachers of the colleges have been asked to take the exam between June 10 to 15.Besides; the responsibility of giving information in this regard to the students has also been given to the college.
Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, the former police chief of Maharashtra, has been appointed as the chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation for a two-year period.
The government notification came after a series of meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Justice and opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
Mr. Jaiswal is a 1985-batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre. He is currently serving as the chief of the Central Industrial Security Forces.
India Reports 2,430 New COVID-19 Cases | Our Nagpur
नागपूर : जिल्ह्यात २४ तासांत २५ करोना रुग्णांचा मृत्यू तर ४७० नवीन रुग्णांची भर पडली. सलग दुसऱ्या दिवशी पाचशेहून कमी करोनाग्रस्त आढळल्याने मोठा दिलासा मिळाला आहे. याशिवाय रुग्णालयांत दाखल रुग्ण संख्या ही तीन हजारांखाली आली आहे.
उपचाराधीन रुग्णांमध्ये शहरातील ५ हजार ८३७, ग्रामीणचे ५ हजार ११ अशा एकूण १० हजार ८४८ रुग्णांचा समावेश आहे. त्यातील ७ हजार ९८२ रुग्ण गृह विलगीकरणात तर गंभीर संवर्गातील २ हजार ८६६ रुग्णांवर विविध कोविड रुग्णालय वा कोविड केअर सेंटरमध्ये उपचार सुरू आहेत. २४ तासांत शहरात २१३, ग्रामीण २४६, जिल्ह्याबाहेरील ११ असे एकूण ४७० रुग्ण आढळले. त्यामुळे शहरातील आजपर्यंतच्या करोनाग्रस्तांची संख्या ३ लाख २९ हजार ६०३, ग्रामीण १ लाख ४० हजार ८७९, जिल्ह्याबाहेरील १ हजार ५२९ अशी एकूण ४ लाख ७२ हजार ११ रुग्णांवर पोहोचली आहे. दिवसभरात शहरात ४, ग्रामीण १०, जिल्ह्याबाहेरील ११ असे एकूण २५ मृत्यू झाले. त्यामुळे शहरातील आजपर्यंतच्या मृत्यूंची संख्या ५ हजार २०९, ग्रामीण २ हजार २६६, जिल्ह्याबाहेरील १ हजार ३४७ अशी एकूण ८ हजार ८२२ रुग्णांवर पोहोचली आहे. शहरात बऱ्याच महिन्यानंतर दिवसभरात ४ एवढे कमी मृत्यू नोंदवले गेले, हे विशेष.
विदर्भात करोनाग्रस्तांची संख्या पुन्हा तीन हजारांवर
विदर्भाच्या अकरा जिल्ह्यात सोमवारी नवीन करोनाग्रस्त रुग्णांची संख्या तीन हजाराखाली गेली होती. परंतु दुसऱ्याच दिवशी मंगळवारी पुन्हा येथे २४ तासांत १०४ करोनाबाधित रुग्णांचा मृत्यू तर ३ हजार ८० नवीन रुग्णांची भर पडली आहे. विदर्भात २४ मे रोजी १०८ रुग्णांचा मृत्यू तर २ हजार ७८७ नवीन रुग्ण नोंदवले गेले होते. तर मंगळवारी दुसऱ्याच दिवशी पुन्हा नवीन रुग्णांत किंचित वाढ नोंदवली गेली. दरम्यान, दिवसभरात नागपूर जिल्ह्यात ४७० नवीन रुग्ण आढळले आहे. तर नागपूर शहरात दिवसभरात ४, ग्रामीण ९, जिल्ह्याबाहेरील ११, अशा एकूण २५ रुग्णांचा मृत्यू झाला. विदर्भातील एकूण मृत्यूत नागपूर जिल्ह्यातील २४.०३ टक्केमृत्यूंचा समावेश आहे. अमरावतीत ८ मृत्यू तर ५२५ नवीन रुग्ण आढळले, चंद्रपूरला १३ मृत्यू तर २३४ रुग्ण, गडचिरोलीत २ मृत्यू तर १४३ रुग्ण, यवतमाळला १२ मृत्यू तर १६७ रुग्ण, भंडाऱ्यात १ मृत्यू तर ११९ रुग्ण, गोंदियात ६ मृत्यू तर ७४ रुग्ण, वाशीमला १० मृत्यू तर ३३५ रुग्ण, अकोल्यात १३ मृत्यू तर २८८ रुग्ण, बुलढाण्यात ६ मृत्यू तर ४७८ रुग्ण, वर्धा जिल्ह्यात ८ मृत्यू तर २४७ नवीन रुग्ण आढळले.
एका महिन्यात ६५ हजार ‘सुपर स्प्रेडर’ची चाचणी
करोनाची साखळी खंडित व्हावी, यासाठी महापालिकेच्या वतीने बाजारपेठा, बँक, ऑटोचालक, डिलिव्हरी बॉय, पेपर हॉकर्स, शासकीय आणि खाजगी कार्यालये, दुकाने इत्यादी ठिकाणी ‘सुपर स्प्रेडर’ची करोना चाचणी करण्यात आली. आरोग्य विभागातर्फे एक महिन्यात आतापर्यंत ६५ हजारावर नागरिकांची चाचणी करण्यात आली. अशी चाचणी दहाही झोनमध्ये करण्यात येत आहे. शहरात विनाकारण फिरणाऱ्यांची संख्या मोठी आहे. अशा आणि सुपरस्प्रेडर असलेल्या लोकांची शहरातील विविध भागात आणि चौकाचौकात सकाळी ६ ते रात्री ८ दरम्यान चाचणी केली जात आहे. महापालिका प्रशासनाकडून विविध भागात चाचणी करणाऱ्यांचे पथक नियुक्त करण्यात आले आहे. एका महिन्यात ३१ हजार ८१० आरटीपीसीआर चाचणी, ३३ हजार ४०५ अँटिजेन चाचण्या करण्यात आल्या. या कार्यात पोलिसांचेही सहकार्य मिळत आहे. यासाठी ११ मोबाईल व्हॅन आणि ४५ चाचणी केंद्रांचा उपयोग करण्यात आला.
करोनामुक्तांचे प्रमाण ९५.५१ टक्के
शहरात दिवसभरात ७८१, ग्रामीणला १ हजार २०० असे एकूण १ हजार ९८१ व्यक्ती करोनामुक्त झाले. त्यामुळे शहरातील आजपर्यंतच्या करोनामुक्तांची संख्या ३ लाख १९ हजार १४३, ग्रामीण १ लाख ४० हजार ८७९ अशी एकूण जिल्ह्यात ४ लाख ५२ हजार ३४१ व्यक्तींवर पोहोचली आहे. आजपर्यंतच्या करोनाग्रस्तांच्या तुलनेत हे प्रमाण ९५.५१ टक्के आहे.
१४ हजारांवर चाचण्या
शहरात दिवसभरात ८ हजार ४६५, ग्रामीणला ५ हजार ६८० अशा एकूण १४ हजार १४५ चाचण्या झाल्या. ही संख्या सोमवारी १३ हजार १२९ अशी होती.
If you have a habit of impulsively opening PDFs that you find attached with emails that look shady at best, you need to stop doing that immediately. Microsoft’s Security Intelligence has discovered a Trojan malware attack that hackers are using to target people who do not think twice before opening any PDF files attached to emails.
According to the team of researchers at Microsoft Security Intelligence, hackers are targeting users through this email campaign that uses malicious PDF files as bait. These PDFs, when downloaded without caution, can download a Java-based remote access Trojan file called StrRAT, and it can steal passwords and other bank-related credentials saved on your machine. Worse yet, the researchers have found that the Trojan malware in these PDFs can even disguise itself as faked ransomware.
These PDF files end with the .crimson extension without encryption. In most cases, there are files that may be an image but they pose as a PDF attachment with .PDF at the end, often succeeding in fooling users into downloading it. When opened, this image masquerading as a benign PDF connects to a malware domain “to download the StrRAT malware.” Hackers often target compromised email accounts with this email campaign that spreads the StrRAT malware, according to Microsoft’s Security Intelligence team. Nearly all the emails that hackers send under this malware campaign use social engineering around payment receipts that may look innocuous to most people.
The StrRAT malware that hackers are using this time bears version number 1.5, and Microsoft said it “is notably more obfuscated and modular than previous versions.” However, the backdoor functionality of this new StrRAT version is identical to that of its prequels, which is collecting browser passwords, running remote commands and PowerShell on the Windows machine, logging keystrokes, among other unsolicited activities. The StrRAT malware, when fully downloaded and operational on a Windows machine, connects to a C2 server to download necessary files.
It seems only valid that you tread cautiously when dealing with shady emails and do not immediately click on a file attached with it. With a little scepticism, you may be able to protect your computer and personal data from falling prey to a malware campaign like this.
Microsoft has said that its Microsoft 365 Defender can offer protection against such malware threats by blocking them on endpoints with the use of machine learning. Besides, Microsoft has also published advanced hunting queries, which are basically steps to locate malware and nix them, to “help defenders locate indicators and malicious behaviours related to StrRAT and similar threats in their environments” on GitHub.

अनेक तरूण आपल्या गर्लफ्रेन्डला खूश करण्यासाठी असं काही करतात की ते त्यांच्या जीवावर बेततं. सध्या झिम्बॉब्वेतील एक अशीच घटना चर्चेचा विषय ठरत आहे. येथील सेंट चर्चमध्ये काम करणाऱ्या मार्क मुराडजीराला विश्वास होता की, तो उपवास करेल तर देव त्याला दर्शन देतील. त्याला वाटलं तो देवाने दर्शन दिल्यावर त्याला लॅम्बॉर्गिनी कार मागेल. याच विश्वासात त्याने ४० दिवस उपवास करण्याचा निश्चय केला. पण त्यानंतर जे झालं ते वाचून तुम्ही हैराण व्हाल.
देवाला खूश करण्यासाठी या तरूणाने ४० दिवस उपवास करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. पण ३३व्या दिवशी त्याची तब्येत बिघडली. ज्यानंतर त्याला हॉस्पिटलमध्ये दाखल करण्यात आलं. इथे डॉक्टरांनी मोठ्या मुश्कीलीने त्याचा जीव वाचवला. मार्कला जेव्हा शोधण्यात आलं तेव्हा तो फार कमजोर झाला होता. त्यामुळे त्याला हॉस्पिटलमध्ये दाखल करण्यात आलं. चर्चचे बिशप मावरू म्हणाले की, ‘त्याने कमीत कमी नोकरीसाठी तरी उपवास करायचा असता. कारण तो बेरोजगार आहे’.
अशात मार्कच्या काही मित्रांनी त्याच्या मदतीसाठी काही रक्कम जमा केली आहे. ज्यातून त्याचा औषधाचा खर्च भागवला जात आहे. २७ वर्षीय मार्कला जवळपास ३३ दिवसांपासून शोधलं जात होतं. त्याला अखेरचं बघणाऱ्या व्यक्तीने सांगितलं की, त्याने अनेक लोकांना सांगितलं होतं की, देव त्याला लॅम्बॉर्गिनी कार देणार आहे. त्यामुळे त्याने खाणं-पिणं बंद केलं. पण जेव्हा तो सापडला तेव्हा तो बेशुद्ध मृत्यूची वाटत बघत आढळून आला.
मार्कने हे सगळं केलं कारण त्याला त्याच्या गर्लफ्रेन्डला लॅम्बॉर्गिनी कार गिफ्ट करायची होती. पण त्याच्याकडे पैसे नव्हते. अशात मार्कने उपवास करून देवाकडून कार घेण्याचा विचार केला. त्याला कार तर नाही मिळाली, पण त्याच्या जीवाला नक्कीच धोका झाला. आता जगभरात या घटनेची चर्चा सुरू आहे. सगळे हाच विचार करत आहेत की, एखादी व्यक्ती इतका मोठा मूर्खपणा कशी करू शकते.
India on Wednesday reported 2,08,921 COVID-19 infections, pushing the overall tally of cases to 2,71,57,795, as the country conducted 22,17,320 coronavirus tests, its highest-ever in a day, according to Union Health Ministry data.
The death toll also climbed to 3,11,388 with 4,157 fatalities reported in a 24-hour period, the data updated at 8 am showed.
A total of 22,17,320 tests, the highest in a day, were conducted on Tuesday taking the cumulative number so far in the country to 33,48,11,496, while the daily positivity declined to 9.42 per cent, the ministry said.
This is the second day in a row that positivity rate has remained below 10 per cent, the ministry said. Weekly positivity rate has also declined to 11.45 per cent.
The updated data showed that the number of active cases have further come down to 24,95,59, constituting 9.19 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 89.66 per cent.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,43,50,816, while the case fatality rate was 1.15 per cent, the data showed.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.
India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore on May 4.
नवी दिल्ली, 26 मे: देशात कोरोनाच्या दुसऱ्या लाटेशी लढा (Second Wave of Coronavirus) सुरू आहे. दरम्यान कोरोनाचे संक्रमण रोखण्यासाठी लसीकरणाची (COVID-19 Vaccination Drive) प्रक्रियाही तेजीने करण्याचा प्रयत्न सरकारचा आहे. कोरोना काळात लसीकरणाबाबत सोशल मीडियावर (Social Media) अनेक अफवा (Fake News) पसरवल्या जात आहेत. दरम्यान WhatsApp आणि सोशल मीडियावर सध्या असा एक मेसेज व्हायरल होत आहे, ज्यात असं म्हटलं आहे की व्हॅक्सिन घेणाऱ्यांच्या जीवाला धोका आहे.
या पोस्टमध्ये एका नोबेल विजेत्याच्या हवाल्याने असं म्हटलं जात आहे की कोरोना लस घेणाऱ्यांचा दोन वर्षांच्या आतमध्ये मृत्यू होईल. सरकारी संस्था असणाऱ्या पीआयबीने या दाव्याबाबत पडताळणी केली, त्यानंतर पीआयबीने हा दावा पूर्णपणे खोटा असल्याचं आणि लसीकरण पूर्णपणे सुरक्षित असल्याचं म्हटलं आहे.
सोशल मीडियावर नोबेल विजेत आणि फ्रेंच व्हायरॉलॉजिस्ट ल्यूक माँटेनिअर यांच्या हवाल्याने ही बातमी शेअर करण्यात आली आहे. व्हायरल मेसेजमध्ये असं लिहिण्यात आलं आहे की, ‘लस घेणारे सर्व लोकं दोन वर्षाच्या आतमध्ये मरतील. नोबेल विजेता ल्यूक माँटेनिअर यांनी अशी पुष्टी केली आहे की ज्या लोकांना व्हॅक्सिन देण्यात आलं आहे ते वाचतील अशी शक्यता कमी आहे. धक्कादायक आहे की जगातील अव्वल व्हायरलॉजिस्टने स्पष्टपणे सांगितले आहे- अशा लोकांसाठी कोणतीही आशा नाही आणि ज्यांना यापूर्वी लसी दिली गेली आहे, त्यांच्यावर उपचार संभव नाही. आपल्याला आता मृतदेहांचे अंत्यसंस्कार करण्यास तयार झाले पाहिजे.

या मेसेजमध्ये असं म्हटलं आहे की, ‘लसीच्या घटकांचा अभ्यास केल्यानंतर, इतर आघाडीच्या विषाणूशास्त्रज्ञांनी वैज्ञानिकाच्या दाव्याचे समर्थन केले. ते सर्वजण अँटीबॉडी-आधारित वाढीमुळे मरण पावतील.’

Nagpur: The Unit-2 of Nagpur Crime Branch on Monday busted a racket of stamp vendors at District Collectorate by arresting four of them, including two women, for allegedly selling back-dated stamp papers at a higher price by tampering with their entry register. Cops also raided the house of one of the women accused and seized 47 backed-dated blank stamp papers valued at Rs 15,500.
Acting on a tip off, Crime Branch sleuths laid a trap in the Collectorate and caught the accused red-handed while selling back-dated stamp paper of Rs 100 for Rs 1000. Cops then raided the residential premises of accused Bina Advani and seized 47 back-dated stamp papers. Most of the stamp papers were sold by her with fake names. The entry register was also found to be tampered with pseudo names.
Prima facie, police said, the accused identified as Bina Yashwant Advani (60), a resident of Utkarsh Valaya Apartment, Khare Town, Dharampeth, Bhimatai Raju Wankhede (53), a resident of Bhilgaon, Yashodhara Nagar, Ashish Gulabrao Shende (27), a resident of Subhash Nagar, Ambazari, and Himanshu Dheeraj Sahare (20), a resident of Khalasi Line, Mohan Nagar were selling the unused backdated stamp papers to buyers for using them for property sale and other agreement documents.
Crime Branch officers informed that they have registered an offence under Sections 167 (Public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury), 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc) and 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons at Sadar Police Station.
The trap was laid by Senior PI Kishor Parvate, WPSI Laxmichhaya Tambuskar, PSI P M Mohekar, ASI Rajesh Thakur and others under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Additional CP (Crime) Sunil Fulari DCP (Detection) Gajanan Rajmane and ACP Nalawade.

WhatsApp has filed a legal complaint against the Indian government in New Delhi seeking to block new IT regulations coming into force on Wednesday that experts say would compel the California-based Facebook unit to break privacy protections, sources said.
According to the lawsuit, WhatsApp has pleaded Delhi High Court to declare that one of the new rules is a violation of privacy rights in India’s constitution since it requires social media companies to identify the “first originator of information” when authorities demand it.
While the law requires WhatsApp to unmask only people credibly accused of wrongdoing, the company says it cannot do that alone in practice. Reuters could not independently confirm the complaint had been filed in court by WhatsApp, which has nearly 400 million users in India, nor when it might be reviewed by the court. The people with knowledge of the matter declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the issue.
A WhatsApp spokesman declined to comment.
The lawsuit escalates a growing struggle between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and tech giants including Facebook, Google parent Alphabet and Twitter in one of their key global growth markets.
Tensions grew after a police visit to Twitter’s offices earlier this week. The micro-blogging service had labelled posts by a spokesman for the dominant party and others as containing “manipulated media”, saying forged content was included.
The government has also pressed the tech companies to remove not only what it has described as misinformation on the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging India, but also some criticism of the government’s response to the crisis, which is claiming thousands of lives daily.
The response of the companies to the new rules has been a subject of intense speculation since they were unveiled in February, 90 days before they were slated to go into effect.
The Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code, promulgated by the ministry of information technology, designates “significant social media intermediaries” as standing to lose protection from lawsuits and criminal prosecution if they fail to adhere to the code.
WhatsApp, its parent Facebook and tech rivals have all invested heavily in India. But company officials worry privately that increasingly heavy-handed regulation by the Modi government could jeopardize those prospects.
Among the new rules are requirements that big social media firms appoint Indian citizens to key compliance roles, remove content within 36 hours of a legal order, and set up a mechanism to respond to complaints. They must also use automated processes to take down pornography.
Facebook has said that it agrees with most of the provisions but is still looking to negotiate some aspects. Twitter, which has come under the most fire for failing to take down posts by government critics, declined to comment.
Some in the industry are hoping for a delay in the introduction of the new rules while such objections are heard.
The WhatsApp complaint cites a 2017 Indian Supreme Court ruling supporting privacy in a case known as Puttaswamy, the people familiar with it said.
The court found then that privacy must be preserved except in cases where legality, necessity and proportionality all weighed against it. WhatsApp argues that the law fails all three of those tests, starting with the lack of explicit parliamentary backing.
Experts have backed WhatsApp’s arguments.
“The new traceability and filtering requirements may put an end to end-to-end encryption in India,” Stanford Internet Observatory scholar Riana Pfefferkorn wrote in March.
Other court challenges to the new rules are already pending in Delhi and elsewhere.
In one, journalists argue that the extension of technology regulations to digital publishers, including the imposition of decency and taste standards, is unsupported by the underlying law.

MARVEL GIVES A SNEAK PEEK INTO ETERNALS
Earlier in May, the first look at some of the clips from Eternals was shared with fans in a special video. The video featured Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.

The halted Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is likely to resume once again in the United Arab Emirates in September and the final will be played in October, after it was suspended indefinitely by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) due to the Covid-19 crisis.
India Today understands that IPL 2021 is expected to resume either on September 19 or 20 while the final is likely to play played on October 10.
Players from India and England, who will finish their Test series on September 14, will travel to Dubai on September 15th and are expected to remain in quarantine for 3 days before the tournament begins again.
Negotiations are still going on between the cricket boards of India and England to work out the details and logistics but there has been no official request or letter from the BCCI to the ECB to change the itinerary for the 5-Test series in August.
“IPL expected to resume around September 19 or 20 in the UAE, final on October 10.
“Indian cricket board will not request or ask the ECB to change the itinerary. Players are expected to travel from England to Dubai on Sept. 15, it will be a bubble to bubble transfer and will be in quarantine for 3 days,” India Today’s Boria Majumdar said on Sports Today.
Boria went on to add that the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021, which is scheduled to be played between August 28 and September 19 might see a minor change in its dates so that the overseas players in the tournament can join the IPL bio-bubble on time in Dubai.
“The CPL 2021, which is supposed to be held from August 28 to September 19 will be readjusted. There will be negotiations between the 2 boards – BCCI and Windies cricket – and the franchises will also play a role. Trinbago Knight Riders will play a major role in these negotiations to get things in order. The CPL will therefore, will end around September 14 or 15, it will be played entirely in St. Kitts.
“The players will feature in The Hundred (July 24 to August 21) and then fly to St. Kitts, get into a 4-5 day quarantine and might also demand mandatory vaccination. So everyone will be assembling in Dubai around September 15, with a possible 3-day quarantine on 16, 17 and 18,” Boria said.
IPL 2021 ROADMAP
“We are talking about a 21-day window for IPL 2021, still 31 matches have to be played. There will be 4 playoff days with 27 league games before that. There will be 9 or 10 double-headers, which means 20 games taken care off. And 7 single day games.
“So you start on the 19 or 20th of September, and you finish on October 10. That is the window that the BCCI is currently looking at. So again I repeat – possibly 10 double-headers, possible 7 single-headers and 4 playoff days to complete the IPL. That is what is transpiring at this point in time, I have corroborated this with BCCI officials, franchise owners, CEOs, and all sources have confirmed this,” Boria said.
IPL 2021 was postponed on May 4 after 6 players, 2 support staff members and a bus cleaner tested positive for coronavirus. Only 29 matches were played in the 60-game league till May 2.
Notably, the entire tournament was played in the UAE last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis in India.
Social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram may face a ban in India if they do not comply with the new Intermediary Guidelines. The deadline to accept the guidelines set by the government will end on May 25 but so far none of the platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter has complied with the new regulations yet. The Indian version of Twitter, Koo, is the only social media app that has complied with the new guidelines ahead of the May 25 deadline. In February 2021, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITy) had given a three-month time to the social platforms to comply with the new IT rules.
It is a crucial moment for the social media companies because if they do not comply with the new rules by May 25, they will lose their status and protections as intermediaries and criminal action can be taken against them as per the laws of India, a government official said in a statement. The US-based companies had asked for six months time as they are waiting for a response from the US headquarters.
Revealing whether Facebook will comply with the rules or not, a company spokesperson said in a statement, “We aim to comply with the provisions of the IT rules and continue to discuss a few of the issues which need more engagement with the government. Pursuant to the IT rules, we are working to implement operational processes and improve efficiencies. Facebook remains committed to people’s ability to freely and safely express themselves on our platform.”
As per the new rules announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the social media platforms will have to appoint compliance officers from India. The officer will overlook the complaints, monitor the content and remove it if it is objectionable. Such rules are not only applicable to social media platforms but also to OTT platforms.
The streaming platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime and others will have to appoint a grievance redressal officer based in India who will take care of the complaints and act on them in 15 days. The government has been of the view that social media platforms do not have a code of self-regulation. Therefore, it wants the companies to include representatives from the various ministries and form a committee to regulate the content.
The new rules also mention that the committee will have the sole power to take actions on complaints of the violation of codes.
