Mumbai Crime Branch arrests 2 involved in selling adulterated milk in branded packets

Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested two persons allegedly involved in the adulteration of milk after raiding their hideout in Versova. The two accused were mixing dirty water into original packets of milk from branded companies.

The cops recovered 294 litres of adulterated milk, a stove, candles and empty packets of milk from the accused.

The accused have been identified as Narsimha Kotapeli (46) and Mahesh Mandra (37). They have been charged under IPC sections 272, 273, 482, 468, 420 and 34. The duo has been handed over to the Versova Police Station for further investigation.

DCP Akbar Pathan said, “Unit 10 of Mumbai crime branch received tip off about milk adulteration. A place in four bungalows, Versova was raided very early morning by crime branch team. Two accused were caught red handed doing milk adulteration. They opened the original packets of milk and removed half of the milk from the packets. Later, they filled the other half of packets with water. It was later sealed through fire. Milk packets of very known and renowned companies are mixed like Amul and Mahananda.”

According to police officials, this racket was going on for some time.
