After RTMNU offline MCQ decision, other Universities under pressure

RTMNU Exam
RTMNU declares 16 more results of Summer 2022 examinations

Nagpur: Three days after Nagpur University ended its flip-flop over the examination issue by opting for offline MCQ mode at home centres, other universities have come under severe pressure from students and their political outfits. Many universities have approached the state higher and technical education department to ensure parity in the exams.

The neighbouring Gondwana University (GU), which had already announced offline papers in the descriptive format, changed its decision on Monday after facing several protests by students’ organisations. Its Academic Council has adopted MCQ pattern in its emergent meeting in the evening.

Even Amravati University has been facing protests from students’ political outfits since Saturday to change the offline exam mode to MCQ from the descriptive, but its administration has adopted a “wait and watch” approach.

“We were under a lot of pressure from students after the RTMNU decision. Earlier, the same organisations had demanded descriptive type exams and we agreed to it. In fact, they convinced other students to do the same, citing the quality of education. However, after RTMNU decision, they approached us in a big way to adopt the same pattern,” GU VC Prashant Bokare.

Amravati University is still in waiting mode, even as it had already decided to conduct the descriptive type of offline exams. “Since the government had given clear guidelines about holding the exams, those should have been followed to maintain uniformity. However, after Jalgaon and particularly after RTMNU, protestors from all political outfits like Shiv Sena have approached us to follow suit. As only two universities have adopted the different pattern that students feel is easy, and other ten are not doing it, obviously there would be protests,” AU VC Dilip Malkhede.

Both Bokare and Malkhed, however, agreed that since the ‘Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016’ had granted autonomy to the universities, they can take the decision as per their convenience.
Endorsing their views, some RTMNU officials said since the pandemic effect had subsided and the government had lifted restrictions imposed under the ‘Disaster Management Act, 2005,’ the universities were free to take their independent decisions.

Malkhede said they had declared offline exams plans in January itself, and were fully ready for it. “We had decided to grant 15 minutes extra to students along with a big choice of questions to solve. As the government had directed all universities to hold online exams during Covid-19 pandemic, the change to regular mode after two years should be on the same lines.”

Bokare said GU would be adopting the same pattern of 50 questions like RTMNU and would offer flexibility to students. “Earlier, we had granted three hours and 45 minutes to the students to solve the paper, as per the government directives. Ultimately, it all boils down to the students’ employability, and for that we had started giving training to them after their graduation,” he said.

“When we shot the first scene, I immediately knew the show was going to be fun” says Manika Mehrotra who plays Shweta in Sony SAB’s Sab Satrangi.

Sony SAB’s

1. How does it feel to be associated with Sony SAB’s Sab Satrangi?

I feel great and extremely happy to be a part of Sab Satrangi. I remember when we shot the marriage sequence in December, I immediately realized that this show will be very special and I couldn’t wait to shoot again with the team.

2. What should the audience look forward to with your character’s re-entry into the show?

We’re all working really hard to ensure the audience is entertained, and Shweta’s re-entry is one such attempt to keep them hookedt. Since my character is extremely unpredictable, we are enjoying while exploring new and twisted plots for her. Shweta is full of surprises and audience will not know what to expect from her next.

3. How was your experience shooting with the cast and crew of the show?

I am thoroughly enjoying shooting with the team, we’re always having a great time on the set as well as when we shoot at any other locations. My excitement was evident as I couldn’t wait to return to the shoot. My favorite scenes have to be the ones with the entire family and the overload of emotions are something that loyal viewers of the show would definitely enjoy watching. Interestingly, we laugh the most when we shoot intense scenes, and that’s the best part about playing a negative character.

4. You are playing a negative character on the show, how did you prepare for this role?

There is stark contrast in the personalities of my character and me. Shweta is unpredictable and fickle-minded that she challenges Daddy, the don of Lucknow. I would think twice before doing something like that, and sometimes that’s how it gets easier to play the role, I just imagine what I would not do in real life. Every day I find a new element in the character, and I really hope to exhibit these to the best of my abilities that the viewers can see on screen. (Sony SAB’s)

5. How difficult is it to portray a negative character and how do you intend to make Shweta’s portrayal different?

At first, I didn’t imagine it would be so tough to play a negative character. While I believe that none of can be all good or all bad, I had to go to the extreme to find myself in the role of an outright negative character. Shweta’s feelings are driven situationally, she is often torn between choices and reacts according to what is the driving force at the time. For instance, now she is suddenly infatuated with Mannu but earlier she didn’t feel a thing for him. And I won’t be surprised if she wakes up another day and decides to focus all her energies on something or someone completely different.

6. What, in your opinion, makes Sab Satrangi different as a show?

Sab Satrangi isn’t your typical family drama on television. If colors are representational to our characters on the show; then we have been true to the title, exhibiting different shades of people and proving that eventually most of us hope and look forward to the rainbow at the end of the rain. And I hope our viewers noticed this too.

7. Any message for your fans/viewers?

I consider myself extremely fortunate for the appreciation that I receive for my work. While we work tirelessly, the only gratification for the hardwork is the love from fans. I just hope to continue entertaining them in whatever roles I play, even if they are gray or dark.

Tune in to Sab Satrangi, Mon – Sat, 7:30 PM only on SAB!

Nagpur man orders cake, gets served with hilarious meme..!!!

Nagpur: There’s no better feeling than a call from a delivery guy who has arrived with your delicacy at home. While the waiting part, by any means, is the hardest, all wait seems worth it, when you taste your delectable dish. Sometimes we prefer to be précised about our food and often dole out instructions how we like it. While mostly the restaurant would comply with the details, sometimes, like in Kapil Wasnik’s case, you could be served with hilarious memes that you would find both sweet and sarcastic!

Kapil Wasik had ordered a cake from a renowned bakery of Second Capital of the State via Swiggy. However, while placing the order Kapil expressed one requirement, which ended up us writing this report, in which he wished to know whether the cake contains the egg. And when the cake was delivered by the bakery to Kapil, he was in for a shock! As they literally mentioned on the cake that it contains egg.

So I ordered a cake from a renowned bakery in Nagpur, through #Swiggy. In the order details I mentioned “Please mention if the cake contains egg”. I am speechless after receiving the order

His post soon turned into a meme which was liked and shared by thousands. It was liked by over 50,000 people on Twitter. Even many renowned personalities couldn’t help but to share a great laugh over this comedy of errors.

Amid all that, Swiggy reached out to its customer:

Hi Kapil, sorry to know that the restaurant partner failed to understand your special instructions. Allow us to take a closer look, please share the order ID for further assistance. ^Faizan

Swiggy replied to Kapil.

Minimally Invasive Neuro Surgery at Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur

Wockhardt Hospitals

Nagpur: With new advancements in medical techniques, Neurosurgery is also advancing. Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur have been advancing in the direction of Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery which is of the most skilled procedures.

Minimally Invasive surgery describes any procedure that is less invasive than an open surgery used for the same purpose and is redefining the field of surgery. Minimally invasive procedures usually involve the use of modern devices and remote-controlled manipulation of surgical instruments for observing surgical fields through a scope, either minor/ endoscopy.

“In traditional neurosurgery, surgeons take large incision to gain proper access to the area of interest; while in MIS surgery use the small opening to access the same area with the use of either a microscope or endoscope”, informed Dr. Rahul Zamad, Consultant- Neurosurgery, Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur. Dr. Zamad also describes the highly complex cases he has operated on using the technique.

A 58-year-old male patient underwent surgery for a large Right-sided hypertensive basal ganglia bleed where a small frontal mini craniotomy was done and the bleed was evacuated using an endoscope to reduce the intracranial pressure. Traditionally this patient would have to undergo decompressive craniectomy and later another surgery would have been needed to put the bone flap back in place which could be avoided.

Similarly, a 28-year-old patient underwent transnasal transsphenoidal endoscopic surgery for CSF rhinorrhea and complete skull base repair was accomplished. We could avoid a large incision over his scalp to do an Anterior cranial fossa repair and avoid a lot of morbidity for him.

Another 34-year-old chap underwent Minimally invasive spine surgery for L4L5 PIVD and was operated by a 2 cm incision and was discharged within 12 hours after the surgery from the hospital. And there are many other examples.

Patients’ safety and completeness of the procedure are top priorities for the surgeon. Not all patients are candidates for MIS. Patient selection is of utmost importance and the surgeon decides the feasibility depending upon the condition of the patient.

Minimally invasive Neurosurgery cause less operative trauma for the patient and the surgical site also it causes less post-operative pain and smaller incisions are better accepted by the patients. It can help speed up a patient’s recovery and early return to work. It also reduces the hospital stay and thus the financial burden on the patient as the surgical cost between open and MIS does not differ by much. The use of video-assisted techniques helps surgeons have a better visualization of the area of interest by magnifying the area thus increasing the safety and improving the completeness of the procedure.

Patients with a deep-seated brain tumor / CSF rhinorrhea/ pituitary tumor/brain abscess/ intracranial bleed/ disc problems in the spine/ limited spinal fixation can be managed by a minimally invasive procedure.

We at Wockhardt are in the transformation from Open to Minimally invasive Neurosurgery and promoting MIS both in the brain as well as the spine as regularly procedures are being carried out.

Letter smuggled out of jail claims jailer thrashed Gaur

Nagpur Jail

Nagpur: They are just scribbles across one-and-a-half note book pages. But they were addressed to two scribes, smuggled out of Nagpur Central Jail, and claim that undertrial inmate Akash Gaur was thrashed by a jailer, which probably led to his death on May 14. The source of the information is said to be a fellow inmate of Gaur in the jail.

Gaur, who had a murder case going against him, was declared dead at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after being brought there in an unconscious condition. The jail escorts had told the doctors that Gaur was suffering from breathlessness and chest pain.

In the note sent to TOI, it is mentioned that the same jailer had faced a penalty while serving at Nashik for torturing an inmate. The sender has also said an inmate at Aurangabad too was murdered when one of the officials now posted at Nagpur was serving there. The jailer is learnt to target anyone who does not fulfil his demands.
The person who leaked the information also claimed that one of the jail officials had been threatening witnesses who were supposed to depose before the magistrate inquiring into Gaur’s death.

On the day after his death, Gaur’s family had created a ruckus at GMCH mortuary, claiming his body had several injuries and seeking justice. They were clamouring for action against jail authorities for thrashing Gaur to death.

Sources also said the jailer, who allegedly thrashed Gaur, proceeded on leave on May 15, ostensibly to bring his belongings from Mumbai.

Gaur’s father, Tarachand, had claimed that he met his son on May 9 at Nagpur Central Jail. He said Gaur was in a panic, but had no signs of any illness. “My son was petrified that someone may assault or attack him in the jail. He also alerted me that jail authorities may assault him over a fracas in which he was involved,” Tarachand said while sharing his apprehensions with TOI outside the mortuary on May 15.

“My son wanted me to avail emergency bail for him at any cost. Within a week, he was dead under mysterious circumstances in jail. He must have been murdered,” he had said.
Dhantoli police had registered a case of accidental death and started probing the matter. Sources said Gaur’s family has now written a letter to senior police officials and also to Mantralaya for justice.

SP, Nagpur Central Jail, Anup Kumre said the jailer being accused of high-handedness is a highly disciplined official and is known for his no-nonsense stance. “There is no reason to believe that the inmate was thrashed. Senior officials have always been strictly instructing not to take tough measures against inmates physically,” he said.

ISI mark helmet

Nagpur: According to latest updates to the Motor Vehicles Act, wearing helmets improperly by two-wheeler riders can attract fines of up to ₹ 2,000. These fines can be imposed regardless of whether riders are wearing helmets, and include violations for wearing helmets with the strap untied, or if the helmet does not have a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, or the ISI mark.

According to Section 194D of the Motor Vehicles Act, “whoever drives a motorcycle or causes or allows a motorcycle to be driven in contravention of the provisions of Section 129 or the rules or regulations made thereunder shall be punishable with a fine of one thousand rupees and he shall be disqualified for holding a licence for a period of three months.”

Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998 states that “every person driving or riding a motorcycle of any class or description, shall, while in a public place, wear protective headgear conforming to the standards of Bureau of Indian Standards, and is securely fastened to the head of the wearer by means of straps or other fastenings provided on the headgear.”

Rs 12 crore benches scam comes to light in cash-starved NMC..!!!

NMC
NMC

Nagpur: The cash-starved Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is again in headlines, of course for a dubious reason. Even as the investigations into the multi-crore stationery scam is still going on, another scandal has come to light in the civic body. This time it is Rs 12 crore benches scam, according to media reports.

The reports said that the NMC had installed over 17,500 benches at public places in the city at the cost of about Rs 12 crore. However, this figure is only on paper. In reality, only between 10,000-12,000 benches were installed but the bills for remaining ones were cleared without actual delivery.

An initial probe by the NMC team has found several irregularities. On paper, many of these benches were shown as installed, but on inspection the NMC team found no benches in the marked places. The probe also revealed that benches that were procured by the civic body were not only of poor quality but purchased at inflated prices.

The civic body installs benches in public places such as gardens, religious places, markets etc for citizens to rest. The benches are installed on the recommendations of Corporators. Funds under Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee and Weaker Sections Committee were used for this purpose.

Following the reports, the Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B had ordered a probe some two months ago. Consequently, a team under Deputy Municipal Commissioner Nirbhay Jain started the investigation. The team gathered details and information from the Public Works Department from all 10 zones and submitted a report this week.

According to sources, the Standing Committee had approved and made budgetary provisions for the installation of either concrete or iron benches in societies and at public places. Even financial provisions were made available from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s offices. The amount was spent under several heads — road repair and construction, ward fund, financially weaker sections, DPC funds among others.

As per the initial probe report, in 2019-20, the NMC had spent over Rs 4.44 crore to procure 6,587 benches, in 2020-21 and 2021-22, the Public Works Department spent over Rs 2.95 crore and Rs 4.51 crore to procure 4,424 benches and 6,551 benches, respectively. The initial probe revealed that certain contractors were allegedly indirectly paid in lump sum after allotment of orders for benches. These irregularities were observed in almost all wards in 10 zones.

The highest number of benches — 3,200 — were installed in Hanuman Nagar Zone, followed by Gandhibagh 3,027, Dharampeth 2,278 and Mangalwari 2,172.

Taking cognizance of the team’s findings, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhakrishnan B has ordered a thorough probe.

NMC bulldozes Mominpura famous ML Canteen

ML Canteen

Nagpur: Muslim Library Canteen (ML Canteen) in Mominpura, the eatery which had doused the midnight hunger pangs of generations of Nagpurians, was razed to the ground on Thursday. Famous for its biryani and running till late in the night, the joint was subject to NMC’s anti-encroachment action. The nearly century old place had its own platter of controversies with the civic body.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) authorities demolished the canteen functioning on land leased out to Muslim Library. ML Canteen, as it was known popularly, was declared illegal as the land was meant for library. Besides some other eateries that had sprang-up on the ML land were also removed as part of the anti-encroachment drive.

About 13,400.625 sq. ft. of land was allotted to Muslim Library by NMC on 30-year lease free of premium. On the same land, ML Canteen was constructed which the civic body officials said was illegal. A writ petition was also filed in Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court in March, 2017, after NMC asked ML office bearers to vacate the land. After the hearing, the High Court directed authorities to take action as per rules prescribed in Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Rules, 1966.

In view of the court directives, officials of Gandhibagh Zone of NMC issued notice. A portion of ML Canteen was pulled down on May 10 by the authorities. The owners of ML Canteen again approached the HC seeking stay against NMC action. NMC then deferred the action and gave time till May 13,2022,to ML Canteen and other eateries to remove the structures on their own. Finally on Thursday, NMC razed the illegal structures on the leased land.

The NMC squad reached at 8 in the morning and soon ML Canteen was reduced to rubble. With no lease, now even the Muslim Library is on encroached land. In future, even the library premises can be subject to action, which includes demolition, said the NMC official

During the drive, two JCB were pressed into service to remove the illegally constructed buildings. A strong police posse ensured that no one interfered with the demolition. Sr. Police Inspector Trupti Sonone, Inspector Vinayak Kolhe were present throughout the action. The demolition was carried out by Enforcement Department’s team comprising Abhijit Netam, RajeshTelrandhe, Junior Engineer Shyam Dharmamali, under supervision of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Patil, Enforcement Superintending Engineer Shrikant Vaidya, Establishment Officer Parashar, Pravin Kotangale and Deputy Engineer Sanjay Kamble.

आज तय होगी परीक्षा पद्धति, विवि ने बुलाई विद्वत परिषद की आपात बैठक :Nagpur University

RTMNU Exam
RTMNU declares 16 more results of Summer 2022 examinations

Congress’s Navjot Sidhu Gets 1 Year In Jail In 34-Year-Old Road Rage Case

Navjot Singh Sidhu
Navjot Singh Sidhu

New Delhi: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was today sentenced to one year in jail in a 34-year-old road rage case by the Supreme Court, in a massive setback to the cricketer-politician just months after an election defeat.

Navjot Sidhu, 58, has to surrender before a court to serve a year’s “rigorous imprisonment”. “Will submit to the majesty of law…,” tweeted the former Punjab Congress chief, who had participated in a protest this morning.

The Supreme Court was hearing a petition by the family of a man who died after a brawl with Mr Sidhu and his associate in 1988.

For over three decades, the incident and its legal aftermath has dogged Mr Sidhu, who recently quit as Punjab Congress chief after his party’s defeat in state elections.

The victim’s family had asked for graver charges against Mr Sidhu and a review of a 2018 order of the Supreme Court exonerating him.

On December 27, 1988, Mr Sidhu got into an argument with Gurnam Singh, a resident of Patiala, over a parking spot. Mr Sidhu and his associate, Rupinder Singh Sandhu, allegedly dragged Gurnam Singh out of his car and hit him. He later died.

In 1999, a sessions court in Patiala acquitted Mr Sidhu and his associate citing lack of evidence and giving the benefit of the doubt.

On a petition challenging this verdict, the Punjab and Haryana High court convicted Mr Sidhu in 2006 of culpable homicide and sentenced him to three years in jail.

In 2018, Mr Sidhu approached the Supreme Court, which set aside the High Court order saying there was no evidence the man had died of a single blow. But it held the cricketer-politician guilty of causing hurt to a senior citizen.

While Mr Sidhu was held guilty of voluntarily causing hurt to a 65-year-old man, he was spared a jail term and fined ₹ 1,000.

The Supreme Court also acquitted Mr Sidhu’s aide Rupinder Sandhu of all charges saying there was no proper evidence he was present at the spot.

The family of the victim, Gurnam Singh, requested the Supreme Court to review its order and consider tougher charges.

Mr Sidhu had challenged the family’s review petition. The Supreme Court today ruled on the Congress leader’s petition.

The case is related to alleged terrorism and secessionist activities in the Kashmir valley in 2017.

Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra in fresh trouble; ED registers money-laundering case

Raj Kundra

The Enforcement Directorate has registered a case of money laundering against Raj Kundra and some other people. They will be soon called for questioning. The case is based on the FIR of the Mumbai Police that alleged that Raj Kundra and others ran pornographic apps.

The ED is investigating the financial transactions of Raj Kudra and others including those who work overseas. The case was registered last week after the ED collected details. It seems they will be called in for questioning in a few days.

In February 2021, the police raided a bungalow in Madh Island and busted a porn film-making racket. After investigating the case, the cops named Kundra and he was arrested. Later, they released him on bail. Kundra said that the investigation was motivated, and there was no clear proof linking him to that offence. He spent a couple of months in prison.

His brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi is the chairman of Kenrin. They worked together on the mobile app called HotShots Digital Entertainment. It was developed by Kenrin. It seems Kundra controlled the British operations from his Viaan Industries Limited.
