Central Minister Nitin Gadkari seeks Big B's support for Road Safety Mission
In an attempt to further strengthen road safety, Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway has been introducing several preventative measures to curb road accidents.
On Thursday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari seeks support from Big B to champion the cause of the National road safety mission in India.
To create effective public awareness about road safety, the ministry has undertaken various publicity measures and awareness campaigns on road safety through social media, electronic media and print media.
Earlier, in March this year Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway had mandated airbag and electronic monitoring of highways as preventative measures to curb road accidents.
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that there has been a decreasing trend in road accidents, persons killed and injured from 2018-2020.
The Ministry has formulated a multi-pronged strategy to address the issue of road safety based on Education, Engineering (both of roads and vehicles), Enforcement and Emergency Care.

Launched in English and five Indian languages – Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada and Tamil – ‘Don’t Hesitate, Do Report, Stay Safe’ will raise awareness amongst users on reporting the content that they find objectionable rather than sharing it further.
Highlighting the efforts and initiatives to create a safer internet for users, Madhu Singh Sirohi, Head of Policy Programs and Outreach, Facebook India (Meta) said, “As per research, women contribute more to economic development when they are digitally empowered and that requires building an internet that is safe and spurs growth and impact. At Meta, we have always strived to build tools and resources that enable a safer and inclusive internet for women. With ‘Don’t Hesitate, Do Report, Stay Safe’ we are confident we will be able to encourage more people to report online harms they see against women and partner with us in creating an empowering experience for women across Facebook and Instagram.”
Built in consultation with various leading CSOs in India, the ‘Don’t Hesitate, Do Report, Stay Safe’ campaign also aims to bust existing myths such as “If I report nothing will happen” or “If I report, it will not stay anonymous”. Further, the campaign will help users understand that when they report content they are in control of their experience on our apps – Facebook and Instagram.
Sharing her views on the partnership with Meta and the launch of the campaign, National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson, Rekha Sharma, said, “Meta has been a long-standing partner for the National Commission for Women (NCW) on driving digital literacy initiatives that have encouraged more women to be part of the online journey while staying safe on the internet. These include an online resource center to deal with topics like cyberbullying, cyberstalking and financial frauds and training to effectively use online resources and grievance redressal mechanisms available to women. To ensure greater safety of women on online platforms, users need to be sensitized on how to safely report problematic content. We are furthering our efforts today with the launch of this campaign to encourage more and more users to come forward and help stop online abuse faced by women each day.”

Navi Mutual Fund Launches India’s First Manufacturing Index Fund
Navi Mutual Fund announced the launch of its sixth fund of this year, the Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund. This is India’s first index fund focusing on the manufacturing sector. It is an open-ended index fund that will seek to replicate the Nifty India Manufacturing Index, which tracks the performance of manufacturers among the top 300 companies in India.
Manufacturing is one of India’s high-growth sectors, which has been buoyed by the government’s constant support to strengthen the sector. The ‘Make in India’ initiative, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, and the Skill India initiative are a few of the programmes that aim to put India on the world map as a global manufacturing hub. Foreign Direct Investment (“FDI”) policy initiatives aimed at reducing restrictions have led to an increase in foreign investment. FDI in the manufacturing sector increased by 25% to $16.3 billion(2) in 2021.
Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund aims to simplify investing in the Indian manufacturing sector. It will provide easy and cost-effective access to the entire manufacturing landscape through an index that is well diversified across sectors and market caps. Investors would gain exposure to not just the leaders of the sector but also to growth in upcoming sectors like electric vehicles, semiconductors, defense, etc., among others. Travel Time From Nagpur To Pune To Be Cut Down To 8 Hours: Nitin Gadkari
In a step to eliminate toll plazas in the country, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari recently announced to install new number plates in all old vehicles so they can be monitored directly through satellite using GPS and state-of-the-art systems.
The centre is working to free the country from toll plazas soon.
“The use of tamper-proof High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) for new vehicles was started from 2019, where government agencies can get all the information about the vehicles. Now, we have decided to provide the same plate to the old vehicles also,” Gadkari said.
“At present, you have to pay full charges even at toll plazas located 60 km away from each other. Now, if you use the highway only for 30 km, you will be charged only half the price with the help of new technology,” he added.
He said, “There will be no stoppage for vehicles and hence, there will be less pollution and it will also save time. With the new technology, money can be deducted directly from drivers’ bank accounts.”
Jacqueline Fernandez Accused By ED In Rs 215 Crore Extortion Case
More trouble for actress Jacqueline Fernandez as Enforcement Directorate has named her as an accused in Rs 215 crore extortion case.The ED also filed the charge sheet against the Bollywood actor on Wednesday.
According to reports ED had found Jacqueline to be the beneficiary of the proceeds of the extorted money.The ED believes she was aware that conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar was an extortionist. Statements by key witnesses and accused have revealed that Jacqueline Fernandez was continuously in touch with Sukesh over video calls.
The conman gifted her items worth Rs 10 crore. ED has attached assets of the actor worth more than Rs 7 crore. Jacqueline was also questioned multiple times by the ED in connection with Sukesh Chandra-shekhar.
Last year in her statement the actor had told the agency, that she received gifts like three designer bags from Gucci, Chanel, two Gucci outfits for gym wear, a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes, two pairs of diamond earrings and a bracelet of multi-coloured stones and two Hermes bracelets from Chandra-shekhar.
She also told that she returned a Mini Cooper car that she had similarly received.
The conman is being investigated by several central agencies including CBI, ED, and Income Tax. He has been accused of extorting Rs 215 crore from the wife of a Delhi businessman through fake calls.
He pretended to be an officer from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Law Ministry and the Home Ministry and claimed he could secure bail for the businessman.
Gadkari launched 17 ‘e and Digital’ buses of NMC | Our Nagpur
Nagpur: The Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari launched 17 ‘e and Digital’ buses of NMC Transport Department at Samvidhan Square for the convenience of Nagpurians.
While addressing the function,Gadkari stated that the e-buses would be helpful for the citizens and also help to control the pollution. Gadkari travelled in the bus from Samvidhan Square to GPO Square after the inauguration. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhakrishnan B, claimed that more than 230 pollution free buses would be added in the NMC’s public transport buses.

The women’s under-17 World Cup will not be held in India till the ban is in place and no Indian team can participate in international competitions or friendlies.
Meanwhile, domestic football can continue. The 131st Durand Cup, which kicks off the Indian season, begins in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The examinations being held in all three shifts are cancelled.
The examinations scheduled on August 10 will be held on August 16, 2022 while the examinations that were to be held on Thursday will be conducted on August 21, 2022, according to Dr Praful Sable, Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation.
On Wednesday 43,000 students were to write 51 papers with engineering, MBA, B.Sc, BA, M.Tech, M.Phil, BA II year, B.Tech as some of those. On Thursday 36,000 students were supposed to write the papers. Bhandara, Gondia, Arvi, Ashti, Rohna experienced heavy rains. The roads at Mohadi, Sakoli, Amgaon are closed for traffic.
