Ranveer Singh’s film ‘Simmba’ roars into Rs 100 crore club with big jump

The movie Simmba (Simba) took the box office by storm since opening day, and it continued to make excellent collection over the weekdays, and it has now crossed Rs 100 crore mark.

The Ranveer Singh starrer has had a good opening day collection of Rs 20.72 crore at the Indian box office. Since then Simmba has been roaring at the commercial circuits with huge numbers every day.

The movie had collected Rs 23.33 crore on Saturday and Rs 31.06 crore on Sunday, thereby, ending the first weekend on a successful note. While it was predicted that Simmba would witness a fall in its collection over the weekdays, the film remained unshakable at the box office even on Monday and Tuesday.

After earning Rs 21.24 crore on Monday, Simmba was just Rs 4 crore short of reaching the big milestone of Rs 100 crore mark. Tuesday (day 5) being a partial holiday (New Year), the action drama witnessed further jump in its business.

With a screen count of around 4.020 across India, Simmba collected Rs 28.19 crore at the domestic market on Tuesday, taking its 5 days total close to Rs 125 crore.

Rafale Case : Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie move SC seeking review of Dec 14 Rafale verdict

Former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and advocate Prashant Bhushan Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, seeking review of its December 14 verdict dismissing all PILs alleging irregularities in the procurement of 36 Rafale jets from France.

In their review plea, they alleged that the judgment relied upon patently incorrect claims made by the government in an unsigned note given in a sealed cover to the apex court. They have also sought that the plea be heard in an open court.

The Supreme Court had on December 14 last year dismissed the pleas challenging the deal between India and France for procurement of 36 jets, saying there was no occasion to really doubt the decision making process” warranting setting aside of the contract.

The top court had rejected the pleas seeking lodging of an FIR and the court-monitored probe alleging irregularities in the Rs 58,000 crore deal, in which both the countries have entered into an inter-governmental agreement (IGA).

The Centre had on December 15 last year filed an application in the top court seeking correction in a paragraph in its judgement on the Rafale deal in which a reference was made about the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report and Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

In its judgement, the apex court had noted that the pricing details have been shared with CAG, and the report of the CAG has been examined by the PAC.

The issue of CAG and PAC was mentioned in paragraph 25 of the judgement of the top court which had held that there were no irregularities in the procurement of the jets from France. The judgement had said that the material placed before it shows that the Centre did not disclose in Parliament the pricing details of the Rafale fighter jet, but revealed it to the Comptroller and Auditor General.

After the verdict, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who chairs the PAC, had said no such report had come to him. The Rafale fighter is a twin-engine Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) manufactured by French aerospace company Dassault Aviation.

नागपुरात विद्यार्थिनीची गळफास घेऊन आत्महत्या

नागपूर : बी. कॉम. अभ्यासक्रमाच्या तृतीय वर्षांला शिकणाऱ्या विद्यार्थिनीने गळफास घेऊन आत्महत्या केली. आकांक्षा केशव भेंडे (२०) रा. मोटघरे मोहल्ला, हंसापुरी असे मृत तरुणीचे नाव आहे. तिच्या वडिलाचे निधन झाले असून आई व एका बहिणीसह ती राहायची. आई व बहीण खासगी काम करीत असून सोमवारी त्या कामावर गेल्या असता आकांक्षाने गळफास घेऊन आत्महत्या केली.

बराच वेळ घराचा दरवाजा बंद असल्याने शेजारी राहणाऱ्या तिच्या आत्याने खिडकीतून डोकावून बघितले असता तिने गळफास घेतलेला दिसला. त्यानंतर पोलिसांना माहिती देण्यात आली. सहाय्यक पोलीस उपनिरीक्षक नदंकिशोर हिंगे यांनी आकस्मिक मृत्यूची नोंद केली. विद्यार्थिनीच्या मृत्यूचे कारण अद्याप स्पष्ट होऊ शकले नाही.

City to hold 3 day National Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases Conference

आता रेल्वेची दुरुस्ती करणार ‘उस्ताद’ रोबो, नागपूर रेल्वे विभागाची निर्मिती

नागपूर : रेल्वे विभागाने उस्ताद नावाच्या रोबोटची निर्मिती केली आहे. हा रोबोट यांत्रिक विभागातील कर्मचाऱ्यांना रेल्वेची देखभाल करण्यास मदत करण्यासाठी तयार करण्यात आला आहे.

हा उस्ताद एचडी कॅमेरा आणि सेंसरयुक्त आहे. त्यामुळे यातील कॅमेऱ्यानुसार कोचमधील स्पेअर पार्टचे छायाचित्र आणि व्हिडिओ थेट नियंत्रण कक्षाला मिळतात. तर रेल्वेमधील कोणतीही दुरुस्ती करताना चूक झाली तर ती मानवी चूक या रोबोटद्वारे दुरूस्त करता येते. नियंत्रण कक्षातील अभियंता अँड्राईड ऍपच्या सहाय्याने या रोबोटला नियंत्रित करू शकतात. वरिष्ठ विभागीय यांत्रिक अभियंता अखिलेश चौबे यांनी याची निर्मिती केली आहे.

नागपूरत नववर्षाच्या सेलिब्रेशनदरम्यान वादातून दोन हत्या

नागपूर : नवीन वर्षांच्या स्वागतासाठी पोलिसांनी कडेकोट बंदोबस्त लावूनही एमआयडीसी आणि इमामवाडा पोलीस ठाण्यांतर्गत दोन हत्या झाल्या, तर दोघांच्या खुनाचा प्रयत्न झाला. या घटनांनी नवीन वर्षांच्या स्वागताला गालबोट लागले आहे. या घटनांमधील आरोपी हे कुख्यात गुंड असून इमामवाडा पोलीस ठाण्यांतर्गत खून व खुनाचा प्रयत्न करणाऱ्या टोळीचे सदस्य तडीपार असताना शहरात दाखल झाले. यामुळे परिसरात तणावाचे वातावरण आहे.

पहिली घटना इमामवाडा पोलीस ठाण्यांतर्गत सोमवारी रात्री ११.३० च्या सुमारास घडली. शुभम ऊर्फ सर्किट तायडे (२०), मुकुल ऊर्फ टिक्या पडोळे (१९), गिरीश देवराव वासनिक (३०), ऋषिकेश उईके (२२) सर्व रा. इंदिरानगर आणि त्यांचे दोन साथीदार हे नववर्षांच्या स्वागतासाठी मद्य प्राशन करून वस्तीत हुल्लडबाजी करीत होते. मद्यधुंद अवस्थेत ते जाटतरोडी परिसरातून जात असताना अचानक त्यांनी वस्तीत राहणारा अक्षय लेखराम वाघमारे (१९) रा. इंदिरानगर, जाटतरोडी याच्या घराच्या दरवाजावर लाथ मारली व जोरजोरात ओरडू लागले. अक्षयचा भाऊ आकाश ऊर्फ दीपक लेखराम वाघमारे (२५) याने दरवाजा उघडला व त्यांना दरवाजावर लाथा मारण्याचे कारण विचारले असता आरोपींनी दहशत पसरवण्याच्या उद्देशाने त्याला शिवीगाळ करून मारहाण केली. त्याने प्रतिकार केला असता त्याला ओढून नेले व राजू विशाल सांडील यांच्या घरासमोर त्याच्या पोटावर चाकूने वार करून खून केला. त्यानंतर आरोपी पळून गेले. आकाशला मेयो रुग्णालयात दाखल केले असता त्याला मृत घोषित करण्यात आले. पोलिसांनी गुन्हा दाखल करून गिरीश वासनिक याला अटक केली असून उर्वरित आरोपी फरार आहेत.

खुनाची दुसरी घटना एमआयडीसी पोलीस ठाण्याच्या हद्दीतील राजीवनगर झोपडपट्टी परिसरात घडली. रंजीत ऊर्फ लडी रामप्रसाद धानेश्वार (१९) रा. राजीवनगर हा आपल्या कुटुंबासह घरासमोर छोटे लाऊडस्पीकर लाऊन नवीन वर्षांच्या स्वागतासाठी नाचत होते. त्या दरम्यान रात्री १२ वाजताच्या सुमारास वस्तीतील गुंड सचिन काळे, गोवर्धन लाला राऊत (२४), शंकर लाला राऊत (१९), नितेश काळे (२३), उमादास लिल्हारे (२०), मंगेश काळे (२६) आणि स्वप्निील काळे (१९) सर्व रा. राजीवनगर हे तेथे पोहोचले. अचानक ते त्यांच्यासोबत नाचू लागले. घरातील महिलांसमोर ते अश्लील हावभाव करून नाचत असल्याने रणजीतने त्यांना हटकले असता आरोपींनी त्याला दगड, विटा, फरशी आणि लाकडी दांडय़ाने मारहाण केली. यात त्याचा मृत्यू झाला, तर रणजीतच्या मदतीसाठी धावलेला सनी ऊर्फ नस्सू याच्याही खुनाचा प्रयत्न केला.

Colour-Coded answersheets for handicapped; NU

Nagpur: In a New Year bonanza for hundreds of differently-abled students (divyang), the Nagpur University (NU) has decided to award special status to them during exams.

The NU has come up with several relaxations for the handicapped to help them overcome challenges. According to the draft norms, which are likely to be soon approved by NU, such students would get special answer sheets so as to differentiate them from others.

The tagging would help exam section identify them as those belonging to handicapped students and award additional 3% marks. The move is in line with government resolution issued earlier this year following which the NU had set up a nine-member divyang committee to frame guidelines for the introduction of the special scheme.

In case the students still fall short of the minimum marks to pass the exam, they would also be entitled for an additional 3% of the total marks they have scored.

NU officials said relaxing the marking pattern would ensure less number of handicapped students fail. Their percentage too would improve.

“They may get answersheets will a colour code,” they said. Besides additional marks, the students would get exam centres close to their homes from the upcoming exam season. The GR also calls for other provisions like compulsory seating arrangement on ground floor at exam centre, writer, additional time to write the exam etc. The NU has already okayed additional time in exam in the last year.

Two years ago, the Central government and the University Grants Commission (UGC) had announced the policy for students with 21 types of disabilities. The director of higher education, Pune, too had written to NU asking it to implement the policy.

The NU has included acid attack victims and people with dwarfism, speech and language disorder, cerebral palsy, neurological disorder, learning disabilities, Thalassemia, haemophilia, multiple sclerosis under its list.

Tiger and tigress found poisoned to death near Nagpur Wildlife Sanctuary

Nagpur: As 2018 drew to a close, two tigers were reportedly poisoned in the Pauni range in the periphery of the Umred-Karhandla-Paoni Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.

Forest rangers suspect that the majestic cats may have been targeted with poisoned bait between Sunday and Monday since the half-eaten carcass of a wild pig was found near one of the tigers. Situated amidst dense forests spreading across 189.30 sqkm, the Umred-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary houses about 15 tigers.

Officials said that the carcass of T16, a dominant male tiger aged seven years was found in compartment no. 226, Chichgaon beat. Local tourists informed forest officials about the carcass on Sunday, he added. On Monday, rangers surveying compartment no. 226 found the carcass of seven-year-old tigress T4 less than a kilometre away from where they found T16.

Pench Tiger Reserve’s Field Director Ravikiran Govekar said that the half-eaten carcass of a wild pig found near the tiger’s body indicates that locals living near the sanctuary may have killed the big cats as revenge. “There are farmlands in close vicinity to the spot and revenge killing is not new here,” he added.

The series of events increased the number of tiger-deaths in Maharashtra in 2018 to 21, equal to that of the previous year. Data released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) revealed that 92 tigers died in India in 2018 with the maximum number of deaths being reported from Madhya Pradesh at 23 followed by Maharashtra at number two.

नागपूर : स्वच्छ भारत अभियानांतर्गत स्वच्छ सर्वेक्षण २०१९ मध्ये आपल्या नागपूर शहराने सहभाग घेतला आहे. आपले शहर स्वच्छ, सुंदर व्हावे, कचऱ्याचे योग्य विलगीकरण, योग्य विल्हेवाट लावण्यासाठी नागरिकांनी पुढाकार घेणे आवश्यक आहे.

नागपूर महानगरपालिकेद्वारे या मोहिमेसाठी जनजागृती केली जात आहे. या मोहिमेमध्ये सर्वांनी सहभागी होऊन आपल्या शहराच्या स्वच्छतेची जबाबदारी सांभाळण्यासाठी पुढे यावे, असे आवाहन महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी केले आहे. स्वच्छ सर्वेक्षण २०१९ अंतर्गत नागपूर शहरात स्वच्छतेविषयी जनजागृती करण्यासाठी नागरिकांनी पुढाकार घेण्याचे आवाहन नागपूर महानगरपालिकेतर्फे करण्यात येत आहे. याच आवाहनाला प्रतिसाद देत शहरातील ग्रीन व्‍हिजीलच्या सदस्यांनी ‘स्वच्छता मित्र’ बनण्यात पुढाकार घेतला.

Meet a farmer turned author who is writing on agri terrifying crisis in his small village in Solapur’s Barshi taluka

Mumbai: Pandurang More is a farmer with a difference and he says I am interested in doing something for my country and for the poor people.While mostfarmers are facing a crisis of water scarcity, which has driven many to commit suicides, Pandurang More has penned a novel in English to air farmers’ woes.

His novel ‘Kingdom In Dream: The Prime Minister’s protagonist is the son of a farmer who goes on to become Prime Minister. But the dedication page of the book has the name of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Pandurang Tanaji More said “inspiration” not “imposition” which produces results , that after going through the agonies of being a farmer, he realised the system had to undergo a transformation, and for that one has to enter politics.

The son of Sitabai and Tanaji, unlettered farmers in the tiny village of Pangav in Solapur’s Barshi taluka, pandurang tanaji more got a decent education. His parents ensured that he finished school, after which he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Education (B. Ed.) Following a stint as an assistant professor, More decided to work in the soil. But while in the field, he felt the need to express the troubles farmers face. Hence was born his first novel, ‘Kingdom In Dream: The Prime Minister’.

He penned it in English so he reaches a wider audience. He said all children should be taught English right from primary schools. Pandurang Tanaji More said “inspiration” not “imposition” which produces results , that after going through the agonies of being a farmer, he realised the system had to undergo a transformation, and for that one has to enter politics.

He said that the government of Maharashtra would celebrate Kalam’s birth anniversary on October 15 as Waachan Prerana Din or Day of Inspiration for Reading, and this was hi sdedication to the nuclear scientist.

The novel, ‘Kingdom In Dream: The Prime Minister’ has been published by Patridge India. More already possesses the manuscript of his second novel ‘White Money’. He has also penned some plays and a poetry collection, which are in line for publication.

उघड्यावर झोपणाऱ्या बेघर निराधारांना दिला निवारा

नागपूर : थंडीच्या दिवसांमध्ये कुडकुडत उघड्यावर झोपणाऱ्या बेघर व निराधारांना मनपाच्या बेघर निवारा केंद्राचा मोठा आधार मिळाला आहे. महापालिका समाजकल्याण व पोलिसांच्या सामाजिक सुरक्षा विभागाच्या पुढाकाराने अशा बेघरांना पोलिस वाहनांतून बेघर निवाऱ्यापर्यंत सोडण्याची सोय करण्यात आली आहे. थंडीमुळे कोणाचाही जीव जाऊ नये, यासाठी महापालिका व पोलिसांच्या सामाजिक सुरक्षा विभागातर्फे संयुक्त उपक्रम राबविण्यात येत आहे.

शहरात रात्रीच्या वेळी उघड्यावर झोपणाऱ्या नागरिकांपर्यंत पोहोचून त्यांना पोलिस वाहनांद्वारे बेघर निवारा केंद्रापर्यंत पोहोचविण्यात येत आहे. त्यामुळे नागपूर शहरातील रेल्वे उड्डाणपूल, रस्ते, फुटपाथ, हॉटेल, खुले पटांगण, बसस्थानक, रेल्वेस्थानक या ठिकाणी यापुढे बेघरांना उघड्यावर राहण्याची गरज पडणार नाही. निवारागृहात् पाणी, स्वच्छतागृह, गादी, चादर, ब्लँकेट आदी मूलभूत सुविधा उपलब्ध करून देण्यात येत आहे. ‘बेघर फ्री सिटी’ अभियानाच्या यशस्वीतेकरीता मनपा अप्पर आयुक्त अझीझ शेख, उपायुक्त डॉ. रंजना लाडे व गुन्हे शाखेचे पोलिस उपायुक्त संभाजी कदम यांच्या मार्गदर्शनात पोलिस निरीक्षक श्रीमती संखे, प्रमोद खोब्रागड़े, विनय त्रिकोलवार, नूतन मोरे यांचेसह सामाजिक सुरक्षा पोलिस विभाग, मनपा समाज कल्याण विभाग तसेच स्वयंसेवी संस्थेचे कर्मचारी कार्य करीत आहेत.

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boy’ release on February 14

After wowing the audiences with the family drama Dil Dhadkne Do, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar is back with her next film titled Gully Boy. Clearly, the buzz around the film is at an all-time high because this is the first time that Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt will share screen space together.

Gully Boy is a musical drama and the film is based on the lives of street rappers of Mumbai- Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy, known for their song ‘Mere Gully Mein’. In the film, Ranveer Singh will play the role of an underground rapper in India, who beats all odds to become famous.

Today, Ranveer Singh took to social media to share the first poster of the film and alongside the poster, Ranveer wrote, “Apna Time Aayega! #GullyBoy #14thFeb #2019.” Gully Boy will release on Valentine’s Day i.e. February 14, 2019.

Before releasing in India, Gully Boy will premiere in Berlinale. Last, Ranveer Singh was seen in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba and after the roaring success of the film, it is only obvious for us to expect another crackling film from the actor.

After Gully Boy, Ranveer Singh will be seen in the biopic of Kapil Dev titled ‘83’ and the film is directed by Kabir Khan. As for Alia Bhatt, after romancing Ranveer Singh in Gully Boy, the Raazi actress will be seen in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmstra and Abhishek Varman’s Kalank.

नागपूर : नागपूर शहराचा मध्य भाग व उपनगरांना जोडणाऱ्या महत्त्वाच्या नागपूर मेट्रोच्या दुसऱ्या टप्प्यास मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांनी मंजुरी दिली. मंत्रालयात झालेल्या बैठकीत महामेट्रोच्या वतीने मुख्यमंत्री श्री. फडणवीस यांच्यासमोर नागपूर मेट्रो टप्पा २ चे सादरीकरण करण्यात आले. यावेळी ऊर्जामंत्री तथा नागपूरचे पालकमंत्री चंद्रशेखर बावनकुळे, खासदार कृपाल तुमाने, आमदार सुधीर पारवे आदी उपस्थित होते.

नागपूर शहरामध्ये मेट्रोच्या पहिल्या टप्प्याचे काम सुरू आहे. दुसऱ्या टप्प्यात नागपूर शहराचा मध्यभाग व उपनगर जोडले जाणार आहे. दुसऱ्या टप्प्यासाठी सुमारे 11 हजार 216 कोटींचा खर्च अपेक्षित आहे. त्यामध्ये केंद्र व राज्य शासनाचा हिस्साही असणार आहे.

नागपूर मेट्रो टप्पा 2 ची वैशिष्ट्ये

नागपूर मेट्रो टप्पा 2 हा 48.3 किमीचा आहे. यामध्ये एकूण 35 स्थानिकांचा समावेश

मेट्रो 1 ए – मिहान ते औद्योगिक विकास महामंडळ ईएसआर (18.7 किमी)

मेट्रो 2 ए – ऑटोमोटिव्ह स्क्वेअर ते कन्हान नदी (13 किमी)

मेट्रो 3 ए – लोकमान्य नगर ते हिंगणा (6.6 किमी)

मेट्रो 4 ए – पार्डी ते ट्रान्सपोर्ट नगर (5.5 किमी)

मेट्रो 5 – वासुदेव नगर ते वाडी (4.5 किमी) टप्पा 2 मुळे 2024 मध्ये 2.9 लाख प्रवाशी प्रतिदिवस वाहतूक क्षमता निर्माण होणार आहे. टप्पा 1 व 2 मुळे एकूण 5.5 लाख प्रवाशी प्रतिदिवस वाहतूक क्षमता निर्माण होणार आहे.

Patanjali’s misleading claims on oil: FDA admits case

Nagpur : The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) at Wardha has admitted a case of objectionable advertising against four brands of Patanjali vegetable oils, as the company is claiming that the oils are cholesterol-free and zero cholesterol on the packaging labels.

The hearing in the case will be held in front of the adjudication official (joint commissioner FDA) and if the charges are proved, the company can be find Rs10 lakh in each case. In a similar case, the FDA has also issued a notice to Emami.

“All brands in Nagpur division are under scanner. FDA will take strict action against all manufacturers of brands making such false claims. Consumers are being taken for a ride,” said Joint FDA commissioner SK Kekare.

“The market is flooded with many such oils. Their labels carry similar claims. Hence the FDA has started this drive against all such oil companies. All of them claim that their oils are either cholesterol-free, have zero cholesterol or reduce the cholesterol etc. But the truth is that no vegetable based oil can actually have any cholesterol is present only in animal based products like dairy products, meat etc. Thus all these misleading advertising advertisements actually seem to be cheating and fooling customers,” said Raviraj Dhabarde, Food Safety Officer, who is handling the case.

The four Patanjali products for which he FDA has raised the objection are Refined Soyabean Oil, Refined Sunflower Oil, Patanjali Virgin Sesame Oil, Patanjali Extra Virgin Groundnut Oil. GB Gore, assistant commissioner (Food) of FDA at Wardha, told that action is being taken under section 2.4.2 (1) Packaging and Labelling rules as labelling likes cholesterol free, zero cholesterol, double refined, triple refined, cholesterol friendly labelling has been banned.

नाकाबंदीदरम्यान मद्यपी वाहनचालकाने पोलिसाला उडविले

नागपूर : नाकाबंदीदरम्यान मद्यपीने पोलिसाच्या अंगावर मोटरसायकल नेऊन त्याला गंभीर जखमी केले. ही घटना रविवारी सायंकाळी ६ वाजताच्या सुमारास वर्धा मार्गावरील मिहान उड्डाणपूल परिसरात घडली. हेमराज थोपटे असे जखमी हेडकॉन्स्टेबलचे नाव आहे. त्यांच्यावर खासगी हॉस्पिटलमध्ये उपचार सुरू आहेत.

याप्रकरणी सोनेगाव पोलिसांनी शासकीय कामात अडथळा निर्माण केल्याचा गुन्हा दाखल करून मोटरसायकलचालकाला अटक केली आहे. केतन किशोर झाडे (रा. खापरी) असे अटकेतील चालकाचे नाव आहे.

थर्टी फर्स्टच्या बंदोबस्तासाठी सोनेगाव पोलिस स्टेशनमध्ये तैनात हेडकॉन्स्टेबल हेमराज थोपटे , शिपाई नरेंद्र भरतराव यादव, सचिन व त्यांचे सहकारी मिहान भागात ड्रंकन ड्राइव्हची कारवाई करीत होते. एमएच-४०-एडी-६४८२ या क्रमांकाच्या मोटरसायकलने केतन जात होता. पोलिसांनी त्याला थांबविण्याचा इशारा केला. त्याने मोटरसायकल थेट हेमराज यांच्या अंगावर चढवली. हेमराज व केतन खाली पडले. त्यानंतर मद्यधुंद केतनने पोलिसांसोबत वाद घातला. या घटनेत हेमराज यांच्या पायाला गंभीर दुखापत झाली. पोलिसांनी गुन्हा दाखल करून केतनला अटक केली. तो खासगी कंपनीत काम करतो.

Sheetal Ugale takes charge as NIT Chairperson

Nagpur : Sheetal Ugale has assumed charge of new Chairperson of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and Metropolitan Commissioner of Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) on Monday.

Ugale will leave for Mumbai on Tuesday to attend important meetings of NMRDA and Nagpur Metro Rail. She is an IAS officer of 2009 batch. Before joining to NIT, she was working as Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

नागपूर : नागपूर-गोवा-नागपूर अशी गाडी नियमित सुरू करण्याची मागणी भारतीय यात्री केंद्राचे सचिव बसंतकुमार शुक्ला यांनी केली आहे. नागपूर तसेच विदर्भातून गोव्याला जाणाऱ्या पर्यटकांची संख्या मोठी आहे. मात्र, गोव्यासाठी थेट गाडी नाही. त्यामुळे आधी पुणे किंवा मुंबईला जाऊन गोवा गाठावे लागते. त्याऐवजी थेट गाडी सुरू झाली तर ते सोईचे होईल. मध्यंतरी रेल्वे प्रशासनाने प्रायोगिक स्तरावर अशी गाडी सुरू केली होती. त्याला प्रतिसादही चांगला मिळाला. त्यामुळे ही गाडी नियमित ठेवावी, असे शुक्ला यांनी म्हटले आहे. नवीन वर्षाच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर त्यांनी आणखीही काही मागण्या केल्या आहेत.

नागपूर- रायबेरली व्हाया कानपूर अशी गाडी सुरू करावी, त्यामुळे येथून कानपूर, लखनौ येथे जाणाऱ्यांची सोय होईल. ही मागणीही जुनी आहे. नागपूरवरून रतलामला जाणाऱ्यांची संख्या मोठी आहे. नागपूर- इंदूर गाडी उदययूर-रतलामपर्यंत विस्तारित केली तरी या प्रवाशांची सोय होईल.

अलीकडच्या काळात रेल्वेचे अनेक छोटे-मोठे अपघात घडले आहेत. त्यातील अनेक अपघात रेल्वे रुळातील बिघाडामुळे झाले आहेत. त्यामुळे रुळांची देखभाल नियमित केली जावी, गाडीत सुरक्षा रक्षक नियमित असावे, मुंबई तसेच दक्षिणेकडून येणाऱ्या सर्व गाड्यांना अजनी स्थानकावर थांबा द्यावा तसेच नागपूर-पुणे गरीब रथलाही अजनीला थांबा द्यावा. त्यामुळे नागपूर स्थानकावर प्रवाशांची गर्दी होणार नाही. जे चतुर्थ श्रेणी कर्मचारी अधिकाऱ्यांच्या बंगल्यांवर काम करतात, त्यांना त्यांच्या मूळ कामावर परत पाठवावे, अशाही मागण्या मध्य रेल्वेच्या विभागीय ग्राहक सल्लागार समितीचे सदस्य असलेल्या शुक्ला यांनी केल्या आहेत.

Veteran Actor Kader Khan Passes Away at 81

Mumbai : Veteran actor-writer Kader Khan died due to prolonged illness at the age of 81 on December 31, his son Sarfaraz confirmed. Khan was admitted to a hospital in Canada and his son confirmed that his last rites will be conducted in the country.

“My dad has left us. He passed away on December 31 at 6 pm as per Canadian time due to prolonged illness. He slipped into coma in the afternoon. He was in the hospital for 16-17 weeks. “The last rites will be performed here in Canada only. We have our entire family here and we live here so we are doing it,” Khan’s son Sarfaraz told.

“We are thankful to everyone for their blessings and prayers,” he added. The news of the death of the actor-screenwriter, who was at his peak in the 1980s-90s, comes days after his son dismissed media reports of his demise. Khan had developed breathing issues and the doctors had reportedly transferred him from regular ventilator to BiPAP ventilator. As per reports, he was suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia.

Adelaide Strikers spinner Rashid Khan to play in Big Bash League despite father’s demise

Adelaide Strikers spinner Rashid Khan, who lost his father on Sunday, has decided to participate in his side’s Big Bash League clash against Sydney Thunder in honour of his late father.

The report was confirmed by the Adelaide Strikers in an official statement. “Rashid Khan wants to play in tonight’s match against the Sydney Thunder at Adelaide Oval in honour of his late father. Rashid’s father passed away last night and Rashid has decided that he will stay in Adelaide and play tonight,” the statement read.

“The Strikers give their condolences and full support to Rashid and his family during this difficult time. The family have asked that their privacy is respected,” the note added. Khan had announced the news of his father’s demise on Twitter.

“Today I lost the most important person in my life,father-the everlasting candle.Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Now I know why u always asked me to be strong, bcz u knew that today I would need the strength to bear your loss. Will be always in my. I miss u #plztalktomeOnce,” he wrote.

Khan, who is appearing in his second BBL season, has taken five wickets in three matches so far. Adelaide Strikers will take on Sydney Thunder on December 31 at the Adelaide Oval.

पोलिसांना ‘मर्डर’ झाल्याचा फोन करून आत्महत्या

नागपूर : ‘गिट्टीखदान भागात युवकाचा मर्डर झाला’, असा फोन पोलिस नियंत्रण कक्षाला करून युवकाने शौचालयात आत्महत्या केली. ही घटना भिवसनखोरी येथे रविवारी पहाटे २ वाजताच्या सुमारास उघडकीस आली. निशांत दिलीप वाघमारे (वय २७, रा. भिवसनखोरी’ असे मृतकाचे नाव आहे. तो मजुरी करीत होता. शनिवारी रात्री त्याने पोलिस नियंत्रण कक्षाला फोन केला.

‘गिट्टीखदान भागात मर्डर झाला आहे, लवकर या’, असे त्याने पोलिसांना सांगितले. पोलिस नियंत्रण कक्षाने गिट्टीखदान पोलिसांना कळविले. पोलिसांचा ताफा त्याने सांगितलेल्या पत्त्यावर पोहोचला. तेथे काहीच नव्हते. पोलिसांनी त्याच्या मोबाइल क्रमांकावर संपर्क साधला. त्याने मोबाइल ‘रीसिव्ह’ केला नाही. ‘मला कोणीतरी मारेल’, असे म्हणत तो घरून निघाला व मामाकडे गेला, तेथे झोपला.

मध्यरात्री त्याने शौचालयातील लोखंडी पाइपला दुपट्टा बांधून गळफास घेतला. रविवारी पहाटे २ वाजताच्या सुमारास ही घटना उघडकीस आली. माहिती मिळताच गिट्टीखदान पोलिस स्टेशनचे उपनिरीक्षक भगत ताफ्यासह पोहोचले. पंचनामा करून मृतदेह मेयो हॉस्पिटलकडे रवाना केला. तो मनोरुण होता, असे सांगण्यात येते. गिट्टीखदान पोलिसांनी आकस्मिक मृत्यूची नोंद करून तपास सुरू केला आहे.

1984 anti-Sikh riots case: Sajjan Kumar surrenders in court today

Delhi : Former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar on Monday surrendered before a Delhi court to serve life sentence in connection with a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which he was convicted by the Delhi High Court. He surrendered before Metropolitan Magistrate Aditi Garg.

The 73-year-old former Congress leader was sentenced to life for the “remainder of his natural life” by the Delhi High Court on December 17. It had set a deadline of December 31 for Kumar to surrender.

The high court had on December 21 declined his plea to extend the time of his surrender by a month. He has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the conviction and the life sentence awarded by the high court.

The case in which Kumar was convicted and sentenced relates to the killing of five Sikhs in Raj Nagar part-I area of Palam Colony in southwest Delhi on November 1-2, 1984, and burning down of a gurudwara in Raj Nagar part II. The riots had broken out after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, by her two Sikh bodyguards.

Smriti Mandhana named ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year as well as the ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

The 22-year-old won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy, who was a part of Australia’s World T20 title-winning team in 2018, was voted ICC T20I Player of the Year.

England’s Sophie Ecclestone was named ICC Emerging Player of the Year. Mandhana, who also made it to the ICC Women’s ODI and T20I teams of the year, scored 669 runs at an average of 66.90 in 12 ODIs and 622 runs at a strike-rate of 130.67 in 25 T20Is.

In the ICC World Twenty20, Mandhana played a crucial role in India’s run to the semifinals. She scored 178 runs in five matches at a strike-rate of 125.35. “The awards are pretty special because as a player when you score runs, you want the team to win, and then when you get acknowledged for your performances through these awards, it motivates you to work harder and do well for your team.”

नागपूर : सासरच्या त्रासाला कंटाळून विवाहितेची आत्महत्या

नागपूर : आईवडिलांकडून पैसे आणण्यासाठी सुनेचा मानसिक आणि शारीरिक छळ करून तिला आत्महत्येस प्रवृत्त केल्याप्रकरणी वाडी पोलिसांनी पतीसह तिघांवर गुन्हा दाखल केला आहे. विशाखा सचिन मोरे (२६) (रा. डिफेन्स वसाहत, वाडी) असे आत्महत्या केलेल्या महिलेचे नाव आहे.

विशाखाचे सचिन मोरेसोबत लग्न झाले होते. लग्नानंतर काही दिवस सुखात गेल्यानंतर पती सचिन, सासरे कृष्णराव मोरे आणि सासू शीलाबाई मोरे यांनी तिला तिच्या आईवडिलांकडून पैसे आणण्यास सांगितले. त्याचप्रमाणे दीर राहुल मोरे यास नोकरीवर लावण्यासाठी तुझ्या माहेरहून पैसे आण असे म्हटले होते. विशाखाने त्यांची मागणी फेटाळून लावल्याने सासरच्या मंडळीनी तिचा छळ सुरू केला होता. शेवटी या छळाला कंटाळून २८ डिसेंबर रोजी सायंकाळी ५.४५ च्या सुमारास विशाखाने गळफास लावला.

सासरच्या लोकांना ही माहिती समजताच त्यांनी तिला डिफेन्स हॉस्पिटल येथे नेले. मात्र, डॉक्टरांनी मृत घोषित केले. याप्रकरणी विशाखाचे वडील दिलीप ठाकरे (६०) रा. राधेश्वरनगर, दिघोरी यांच्या तक्रारीवरून वाडी पोलिसांनी ३०६ अन्वये गुन्हा दाखल केला आहे.

‘थर्टी फर्स्ट’ थंडीच्या कडाक्‍यात; नागपुरात ४.० अंश सेल्सिअस तापमान

नागपूर : उत्तर भारताप्रमाणेच राज्यातही यंदा थंडीच्या कडाक्‍यातच ‘थर्टी फर्स्ट’ साजरा होणार आहे. विदर्भासह मध्य महाराष्ट्रातील काही भागात पुढील चोवीस तास थंडीचा कडाका कायम रहाणार असल्याचा इशाराही हवामान खात्याने रविवारी (ता. ३०) दिला आहे.

राज्यात सर्वांत नीचांकी किमान तापमान नागपूर येथे ४ अंश सेल्सिअस नोंदले गेले. उत्तर भारतात थंडीची लाट आली आहे. जम्मू आणि काश्‍मीरसह हिमाचल प्रदेश, उत्तराखंड येथील बहुतांश भागात किमान तापमान गोठणबिंदूच्या खाली गेले आहे. तेथून थंड आणि कोरडे वारे महाराष्ट्राच्या दिशेने वाहात आहेत. त्याचा थेट परिणाम राज्यावर होत असल्याने मध्य महाराष्ट्रसह विदर्भ आणि मराठवाड्यातील बहुतांश भागात किमान तापमानाचा पारा सरासरीपेक्षा घसरला आहे.

उत्तरेतून येणाऱ्या थंड वाऱ्याचा प्रभाव पुढील आठवडाभर कायम रहाणार असल्याने नवीन वर्षाच्या पहिल्या आठवड्यातही राज्यातील थंडीची लाट कायम राहणार असल्याचे हवामान विभागाने स्पष्ट केले. मध्य महाराष्ट्र, मराठवाडा आणि विदर्भाच्या काही भागात किमान तापमानात सरासरीच्या तुलनेत उल्लेखनीय घट झाली. राजस्थानच्या भिलवाडा येथे ०.६ अशं सेल्सिअस तापमानाची नोंद झाली.

Rohit Sharma, Ritika welcome their first child; blessed with a baby girl

Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh have welcomed their first child. Ritika has given birth to a ‘baby girl’ on Sunday in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma will not be part of India’s Playing XI for the fourth and final Test against Australia as was already on his way back to India when the girl was born.

The couple tied the knot on 13 December 2015.

BCCI later confirmed that Rohit has been blessed with a baby girl. They tweeted, “Rohit Sharma to join ODI squad on 8th January. India batsman @ImRo45 left for Mumbai on the 30th of December to attend to his wife who has delivered a baby girl. The BCCI congratulates Rohit on the beginning of a new chapter in his life.”

Response to mega play Shivputra Sambhaji in Nagpur is greatest

Nagpur : City recorded the lowest ,3.5 degree Celsius temperature on Saturday still it could not dampen the spirit of the theatre lovers who thronged Reshimbag ground for the mega play ‘Shivputra Sambhaji’. The number of audience has almost doubled on the eighth day than the first day.

The magnum opus had started on December 22. More than 40,000 people were present on the first day of the show. Mahindra Shedge, Producer of the play, said, “On the first two to three days, thousands of people walked back disappointedly as they could not get seats to watch the show. The entire team including the artists and organisers felt very sad to see them going back. Thus, the team decided to extend the show for at least two days.” Saturday was the second last day of the show but it appeared as itis the firstday.

“I think, Nagpur has given the largest number of audiences so far. The entire team is overwhelmed by the response,” said Shailesh Thorat, the event coordinator. Wrapped in sweaters, shawls,winter caps and socks to get that coziness, people of all age groups right from kids to elders did not let go the chance to miss the sight of great ‘Sambhaji’ -Dr Amol Kolhe.

The audience included not only local people but also many made their way from rural areas and other nearby cities. Agraduate Sapana Jamade had come to watch the show second time. For the first time, she had been with her sister who had come all the way from Pune to watch the show while the second time, she was accompanied by her relatives and friends.

When asked what fascinated her in the show that she walked twice in the crowd and she blushed, saying, “ I like Dr Amol Kolhe a lot. Besides his acting and dialogue delivery, his appearance while taking horseride among the audience is mesmerizing ,” said Sapna. Aged above 80, Dr Tejram Khotel, in his eighties, had packed himself with mufflers and coats. He came with his wife right at 4.30 pm just to get the front row seat. “So whatitis cold incity,Iwould not like to miss the chance to watch such a great show. I think,everybody should see the show just to know more about Sambhaji,”said K hotel.

Nagpur : Gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh were intercepted from a courier boy at Nagpur Railway Station by Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The special crime detection team was on patrol duty when they sighted a person near Itarsi end on platform no. 3. Head Constable Usha Tigga and constable Vikas Shamra along with women constable Sharma Dhomne felt that the youth was behaving in suspicious manner and hence they detained him.

The youth later identified as Jayesh Kumar Mishra (26), a resident of Sudam Lane, Itwari, was having just a single sling bag with him. He was taken to RPF station wherein Sub-Inspector Vidyadhar Yadav was on duty. During his interrogation the youth could not provide satisfactory answers and search of the bag yielded gold and diamond studded jewellery.

The parcel was collected from Khandelwal Logistic Courier Company of Mumbai and same was picked up at Nagpur Railway station by Mishra. The courier arrived from Mumbai by Train No. 12809 Bombay Mail. As there was no proper papers for identification RPF seized the material and informed the matter to Sr. Divisional Security Commandant Jyoti Satija. RPF later informed the Income Tax Department abut the interception of a courier parcel and same was handed over to them. The total cost of jewellery is pegged at Rs.30.44 lakh.

During the year, RPF has intercepted such courier containing gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs. 2.6 crores in five cases.

नागपूरात एरोनॉटिकल इंजिनीअरिंगच्या विद्यार्थ्याची आत्महत्या

नागपूर : एरोनॉटिकल इंजिनीअरिंगच्या २२ वर्षीय विद्यार्थ्याने गळफास घेऊन आत्महत्या केली. ही घटना बेसा मार्गावरील साईलीला एन्क्लेव्ह अपार्टमेंटमध्ये शनिवारी रात्री उघडकीस आली. अंकित नरेश गोनाडे, असे मृताचे नाव आहे. तो पुण्यातील कॉलेजमध्ये एरोनॉटिकलच्या अभ्यासक्रमाला होता. प्रशिक्षणासाठी तो मुंबई येथे गेला होता.

मात्र, आजारी झाल्याने २६ डिसेंबरला तो नागपुरात परतला. शनिवारी रात्री त्याचे आई-वडील व दोन बहिणी नातेवाइकांकडे कार्यक्रमासाठी गेल्या. घरी तो एकटा होता. यादरम्यान त्याने पंख्याला ओढणी बांधून गळफास घेतला. नातेवाइक घरी परतले असता ही घटना उघडकीस आली. घटनेची माहिती मिळताच हुडकेश्वरचे पोलिस उपनिरीक्षक व्ही. आर. वडोदे यांच्यासह पोलिसांचा ताफा तेथे पोहोचला. पंचनामा करून पोलिसांनी मृतदेह मेडिकल कॉलेज हॉस्पिटलकडे रवाना केला. त्याला काविळ झाला होता. या आजाराला कंटाळून त्याने आत्महत्या केल्याची शक्यता पोलिसांनी वर्तविली आहे. हुडकेश्वर पोलिसांनी आकस्मिक मृत्यूची नोंद करून तपास सुरू केला आहे.

महापौर आपल्या दारी : गांधीबाग झोनमधील समस्या जाणून घेतल्या

नागपूर : प्रभागातील नागरिकांना रोजच पाणी, गडर लाईन, विद्युत दिवे या सारख्या मुलभूत सुविधांसाठी संघर्ष करावा लागत आहे. या समस्यांना प्राधान्य देउन त्या तातडीने सोडवा, असे निर्देश महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी दिले. ‘महापौर आपल्या दारी’ उपक्रमांतर्गत शुक्रवारी (ता. २८) महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी गांधीबाग झोनमधील समस्यांचा आढावा घेतला.

यावेळी आमदार गिरीश व्यास, वैद्यकीय सेवा व आरोग्य समिती सभापती मनोज चापले, गांधीबाग झोन सभापती वंदना यंगटवार, माजी महापौर प्रवीण दटके, नगरसेविका सुमेधा देशपांडे, नेहा वाघमारे, आशा नेहरू उईके, नगरसेवक जुल्फेकार भुट्टो, माजी नगरसेवक बंडू राउत, अतिरिक्त आयुक्त राम जोशी, कार्यकारी अभियंता (जलप्रदाय/ओ.ॲण्ड एम.) मनोज गणवीर, कार्यकारी अभियंता (स्लम) राजेंद्र रहाटे, सहायक आयुक्त अशोक पाटील, आरोग्य अधिकारी (स्वच्छता) डॉ. सुनील कांबळे, वैद्यकीय अधिकारी डॉ. विजय जोशी, झोनल अधिकारी सुरेश खरे यांच्यासह संबंधित विभागाचे अधिकारी व कर्मचारी उपस्थित होते.

प्रारंभी महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी गांधीबाग झोनमधील नागरिकांशी चर्चा करून त्यांच्या समस्या जाणून घेतल्या. यावेळी त्यांनी मालमत्ता व पाणी कर वसुलीसंदर्भात संबंधित अधिकारी-कर्मचाऱ्यांकडून आढावा घेतला. करवसुलीचा वेग वाढवा आणि १०० टक्के उद्दिष्ट गाठा, असे निर्देशही त्यांनी दिले. प्रभाग १८ मधील गंगाबाइर घाट पुलाचे बांधकाम थांबून असल्याने नागरिकांना मोठ्या प्रमाणात त्रास सहन करावा लागत असल्याची तक्रार परिसरातील नागरिकांनी यावेळी महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांच्याकडे केली.

महापौरांनी पुलाच्या बांधकामाबाबत आढावा घेउन येत्या ३ महिन्यामध्ये कोणत्याही अडथळ्याविना बांधकाम पूर्ण करण्याचे निर्देश संबंधित अधिका-यांना दिले. याशिवाय गंगाबाई घाटाच्या सौंदर्यीकरणाच्या प्रस्तावाला महापौरांनी हिरवी झेंडी दाखविली. गंगाबाई घाटाच्या सौंदर्यीकरणासाठी एक कोटीच्या निधीला स्थायी समितीने मंजुरी प्रदान करण्यात आल्याचे यावेळी सांगण्यात आले. गंगाबाई घाटाच्या सौंदर्यीकरणाच्या कामासंबंधीची कार्यवाही लवकरात लवकर पूर्ण करून कामाला सुरूवात करण्याचेही महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी निर्देशित केले.

प्रभाग ८ मधील मोमिनपुरा भागात महापौरांनी यावेळी दौरा केला. या भागात मोठ्या प्रमाणात पाणी, गडर लाईन, विद्युत दिव्‍यांची समस्या आहे. शिवाय अनेक ठिकाणी पाणी लिकेज असून विजेची तार रत्यावर लोंबकळत आहेत, ट्रंक लाईन चोक असल्याने पाणी रस्त्यावर वाहत आहे, अनेक ठिकाणी अतिक्रमणामुळे अनेक अडचणींचा सामना करावा लागत आहे. अशा अनेक तक्रारींचा पाठा नागरिकांनी महापौरांपुढे वाचला. प्रत्येक नागरिकाला पिण्याचे पुरेसे पाणी मिळणे हा त्यांचा हक्क आहे. पाणी, विद्युत दिवे, गडर लाईन या मुलभूत सुविधांसाठी नागरिकांना त्रास होउ नये यासाठी तातडीने या समस्या सोडवा असे निर्देश महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी संबंधित अधिका-यांना दिले.

महानगरपालिकेमध्ये कार्यरत कर्मचा-यांच्या कामावर देखरेख राहावी, त्यांनी शिस्तीमध्ये काम करावे यासाठी मनपातर्फे त्यांना ‘जीपीएस वॉच’ देण्यात आल्या आहेत. मात्र अनेक कर्मचारी ती घड्याळ न वापरता कामचुकारपणा करतात. अशा कर्मचा-यांनावर कठोर कारवाई करण्याचे निर्देश महापौर नंदा जिचकार यांनी यावेळी दिले.
