‘Power Couple’ Sameer and Varsha tied the knot on Sunday at Sadbhawna Lawn off Katol road. The specialty of the event was that bride as well as the groom is deaf and mute and both were deserted in early age.
But fate brought them to doorsteps of Shankar Baba Papalkar who after adopting them reared them and brought a new sunshine in their lives. And today Papalkar must have been a content person after seeing one more success story emerging from his Deaf and Dumb Orphanage in Waizer village of Amravati district.
As they say game is not over till the last ball is bowled, the grand ceremony held on Sunday for which various prominent personalities came together to celebrate the marriage of the two showcased that money is not the only thing that drives the world.
The ceremony was perhaps salutation to Papalkar, he has devoted his life to provide a new meaning to lives of such abandoned children.
And this is not the first such occasion when Papalkar, a towering personality ensured that children who were left to fend for themselves because of their disability and poverty were provided a new hope to live life with dignity.
Deshmukh and Thakare turn ‘Samadhis’:
Together with Papalkar, Anil Deshmukh, Home Minister, Maharashtra State, his wife Aarti, son – Salil Deshmukh, and Ravindra Thakare, District Collector, and wife Jyotsna, worked shoulder to shoulder as they graciously patronised the union of Varsha and Sameer.
While Deshmukh accepted responsibility of Varsha and performed her kanyadaan, Thakare was father-like figure for Sameer. And the ceremony was held with full rituals and yes there was Band, Baja and Barat as each thing was meticulously planned and executed.
Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghachalak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) too blessed the couple. Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister, Satish Raut, ex-Minister, Girish Gandhi, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar and host of other officers from uniform and revenue were present.
Dutta Meghe, Padmashree Prabhakarrao Vaidya, Ranjit Deshmukh, Ramesh Bang, Vikas Thakare, MLA, and host of others also graced the occasion.
