The NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) standing committee on Friday approved the proposal to launch audio advertisements in five gardens on a pilot basis. It will be installed in remaining gardens in phased manner after seeing citizens’ response.
Standing committee chairman Sandip Jadhav told the proposal has been approved as a new revenue model. “We will discontinue it if received complaints from citizens. I think the model will work out. We have made mandatory for the private agency to also play devotional and classical music as per requirement. Directives also given to play NMC’s schemes, projects and programmes. It can be a good medium for taking the NMC’s initiatives to the people,” he said.
As per the advertisement department’s proposal, revenue of Rs25,000 per annum will come from five gardens — Tulsibagh, Cotton Market, Gandhisagar Lake, Lakadganj and Balaji Nagar.
Audio advertisements will be played out in the five gardens for one minute every 15 minutes for 2.5 hours each in the morning and evening hours.
The standing committee did not fix any rate for advertisements or any system to screen contents of advertisements.
In the meeting, lucky draw was held to decided eight of 16 members of the standing committee whose terms would expire. As per norms, remaining eight members can continue for next one year. The political parties may not continue them and replace with new members.
Eight members who will exit include seven from BJP— Sangeeta Girhe, Rita Mule, Usha Pilot, Durga Hattithele, Bhagyashree Kantode, Manisha Kote, Sarita Kawre and one from Congress— Harish Gwalbanshi.

Today India successfully test-fired its nuclear capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-5 – the most advanced missile in the Agni series with a strike range of over 5000 kms – from a test range off Odisha coast.
The user associate test-flight of the missile has further boosted indigenous missile capabilities and deterrence strength of the country.
All radars, tracking systems and range stations monitored the flight performance, defence sources said.
All radars, tracking systems and range stations monitored the flight performance, defence sources said.
Describing the trial as “fully successful”, the sources said, the sophisticated missile travelled for 19 minutes and covered 4,900 km.
The sleek missile was test-fired from a canister launcher, mounted on a mobile platform, at about 9.54 am from No. 4 launch pad of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Abdul Kalam Island, earlier known as Wheeler Island, they said.
“After four successful developmental trials, this was the first user associate test of ballistic missile Agni-5,” the sources added.
ballistic missile ‘Agni-5’ is most advanced missile in the Agni series with new technologies incorporated in it in terms of navigation and guidance, warhead and engine. It has a range of over 5000 km.
The missile is so programmed that after reaching the peak of its trajectory it will turn towards Earth to continue its journey towards the intended target with an increased speed due to the attraction of the earth’s gravitational pull, he said.
Its path is precisely directed by the advanced on-board computer and inertial navigation system, the official added.
The first two successful flights of ballistic missile Agni-5 in 2012 and 2013 were in open configuration
India has at present in its armoury of Agni series, ballistic missile Agni-1 with 700 km range, Agni-2 with 2000 km range, Agni-3 and Agni-4 with 2500 km to more than 3500km range.
A green plant from the cabbage family, broccoli is a superfood. It is one of the healthiest cruciferous vegetables, whose large flowering head is often eaten for its nutritional properties. It is often consumed boiled or steamed, but can also be eaten raw.
Is Broccoli Good For You?
Of course, it is! This vegetable is extremely rich in vitamin C (has twice the amount as in orange), calcium (contains as much as in whole milk), and selenium (nutrient important for preventing cancer).
Eating broccoli also detoxifies your body after exposure to food or airborne carcinogens and other oxidants. This activity can be attributed to sulforaphane, an important phytochemical in broccoli. In fact, one study proved that ingesting cruciferous veggies like broccoli can protect cells from DNA damage.
There are many other reasons broccoli can be amazing for you (which we will discuss in detail in a little while). But before that, let’s get into a bit of history
Any Interesting Facts About Broccoli?
Broccoli gets its name from the Italian word “broccalo”, which means “cabbage sprout”.
The most common type of broccoli is Calabrese broccoli – named after Calabria (Italy), its place of origin.
If you want to eliminate the smell of broccoli, you can add a slice of bread to the pot.
California produces almost all of the broccoli consumed in the United States.
And though available all year round, the vegetable is most nutritious from October to May.
The American sign language has no sign for broccoli. You only have to spell it out.
Broccoli was brought to America by Thomas Jefferson. In fact, in 1767, he imported the seeds from Italy and planted them in his own garden
One cup of broccoli (cooked) has the following important nutrients:
100 mcg of vitamin K (270% DV)
101 mg of vitamin C (168% DV)
120 mg of vitamin A (48% DV)
165 mcg of folate (42% DV)
4 mg each of vitamin B6 and manganese (16% DV)
457 mg of potassium (14% DV)
105 mg of phosphorus (10% DV)
33 mg of magnesium (8% DV)
62 mg of calcium (6% DV)
And one stalk of broccoli contains just about 45 calories.
And now, let’s head to the benefits of Broccoli
What Are The Health Benefits Of Broccoli?
The antioxidants in broccoli play a major role in preventing inflammatory diseases like cancer and diabetes. Broccoli also improves liver health and aids body detoxification. Find out about the potential benefits of Broccoli for your overall health.
1. Helps Prevent Cancer
The National Cancer Institute has spoken about the link between cruciferous vegetables (especially broccoli) and cancer in great detail. These vegetables contain glucosinolates, chemicals that have sulfur. During cooking, chewing, and digestion, these glucosinolates are broken down to form biologically active compounds – one of them being indole-3-carbinol, a compound with potent anticancer properties (1).
And yes, there is research that broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables can help prevent various forms of cancer – notably, cancers of the prostate, lungs, breast, and colon.
Another compound in broccoli bagging the credit for cancer prevention is sulforaphane, or naturally occurring organic sulfur. Sulforaphane supports normal cell function and division and even promotes apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells. Research says that just 3 servings of broccoli a week can cut cancer risk by 60 percent.
Broccoli also contains decent amounts of fiber, which enhances immunity and fights inflammatory diseases like cancer
2. Detoxifies Your Body
Often called the dynamic trio, glucoraphanin, gluconasturtiin, and glucobrassicin in broccoli neutralize and eliminate the unwanted chemicals from your body.
3. Improves Bone And Teeth Health
Do you have bone issues or know anyone who does? Well, we can understand what a pain it can be. You can’t just move around. And that’s terrible. But you sure might find some solace in broccoli. Being an excellent source of vitamin K, calcium, potassium, and magnesium – broccoli plays a role in maintaining bone mineral density (it contains good levels of iron too).
4. Promotes Heart Health
Broccoli keeps the blood vessels strong, which is one of the ways it improves heart health. The sulforaphane in the vegetable can prevent and even reverse damage to blood vessel linings caused by chronic sugar issues.
5. Might Promote Weight Loss
Broccoli is low in calories, and hence can be an ideal addition to a weight loss diet. And yes, broccoli is a good source of fiber – it keeps you full for a long period and discourages binging. This could simply make your path to weight loss a little smoother.
6. Improves Brain Health
The two crucial nutrients in broccoli that improve brain health are vitamin K and choline. While the former enhances cognitive abilities, the latter improves memory. And more importantly, broccoli contains a decent amount of folic acid that helps prevent Alzheimer’s and depression
7. Improves Metabolism
The calcium and vitamin C in broccoli, together, can boost metabolism. And the fiber in broccoli increases TEF (also called the Thermic Effect of Food, or your metabolic rate after eating).
The fiber in broccoli is also responsible for healthy metabolism and maintenance of the major body functions
8. Boosts Immunity
The number one reason broccoli works best for the immune system is its vitamin C content. And studies have found that broccoli can also boost the aging immune system. The sulforaphane in the vegetable interacts with Nrf2, a protein that regulates the body’s overall antioxidant response. This protein can switch on hundreds of antioxidant and rejuvenating enzymes and genes
9. Improves Men’s Sexual Health
Men need to thank the folate here. According to a Spanish study, an increased intake of folate can enhance semen production, leading to stronger orgasms and improved fertility. And the vitamin A in this veggie can enhance the sperm count.
What Are The Benefits Of Broccoli For Skin?
The same antioxidants improve skin health and help slow down aging. Vitamin C in the vegetable aids collagen production, ultimately making the skin look younger.
10. Promotes Skin Health
Broccoli contains a substance called glucoraphanin that gets converted into sulforaphane, aiding skin repair and resulting in healthy skin. Thus, eating broccoli renews your skin more quickly and gives your complexion a beautiful natural glow.
11. Helps Slow Down Aging
One compound in broccoli, called nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), has been found to offer anti-aging benefits of Broccoli. NMN produces another compound important for energy metabolism – this compound fuels energy in our bodies, potentially eliminating some of the signs associated with aging .
And the vitamin C in the veggie fights free radicals that otherwise tend to speed up the aging process. Vitamin C also contributes to collagen production, which improves skin elasticity and reduces wrinkles.
Broccoli is often considered better than sunscreen in protecting the skin against skin cancer. In fact, you could smear broccoli extract over your skin before bath. The sulforaphane in it works wonders on your skin.
What About Broccoli Benefits Of Broccoli For Hair?
The B vitamins and vitamin C make your hair stronger and strengthen the hair follicles. Vitamin C also combats free radicals that otherwise cause hair loss.
12. Improves Hair Health
Dark green vegetables like broccoli are loaded with vitamins A and C that help produce sebum – a natural scalp oil that keeps the hair conditioned.
13. Treats Hair Loss
The vitamin C in this wonder veggie eliminates free radicals and helps make your hair thicker and healthier. It also is a good source of B vitamins, which reduce stress and in a way combat hair loss

Nagpur: Two Farmer cousins allegedly killed a leopard in self-defence when the animal attacked them in their field at Lohara village in North Umred forest range in Nagpur on Sunday morning. “The cousins, Ravindra and Rajendra Thakre, had gone to their farm around 8 am when a leopard attacked Ravindra(50). On hearing the cries of Ravindra, Rajendra (48) rushed to help. To defend themselves, the two apparently hit the leopard with an axe and a stick leading to his death,” Assistant Conservator of Forest Mangesh Thengdi said.
The two brothers were grievously hurt and have been admitted in hospital. Their condition is stable. The leopard was a male about five years old. No charges will be brought as it is apparently a case of self-defence, he said.
An IndiGo passenger bound for Indore ended up in Nagpur after he boarded the wrong aircraft from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday morning. The mix-up occurred because both the flights were scheduled to depart around the same time.
The airline has taken cognisance of the “security breach” and initiated a probe. Three airline staffers have also been temporarily taken off work.
“IndiGo regrets a security breach intercepted by its security staff, wherein a passenger of flight 6E-656 (Delhi-Indore) wrongly boarded flight 6E-774 (Delhi-Nagpur) and travelled to Nagpur. The passenger’s baggage was retrieved from flight 6E-656, after which it was released. His baggage was later sent to Indore on flight 6E-733. The passenger has been sent to Indore from Nagpur on flight 6E-509,” said an airline spokesperson.
People familiar with the development said the incident occurred because the passenger mistakenly boarded the bus meant for the Nagpur flight. The airport’s terminal 1, which hosts IndiGo operations, does not have aerobridges.
“The passenger boarded the flight without checking if it was the right one. The staffers at the rear entrance did not verify the details printed on his boarding pass either. He fell asleep soon afterwards, which is why he did not hear the in-flight announcements,” said an airport official on the condition of anonymity.
The mix-up could have been detected at the outset if the seat number printed on his boarding pass was allotted to another passenger, the official said. However, that particular seat happened to be unoccupied.
The IndiGo spokesperson said the incident was being probed by the safety department. “The security personnel involved (security lead, second lead and skipper) have been taken off the roster pending an internal inquiry. The security of passengers, crew members and the aircraft is IndiGo’s top priority, and there can be no compromise on that,” he added.
Earlier this month, a parliamentary panel had slammed IndiGo employees for their “discourteous and rude” behaviour towards passengers, terming it as an “institutional” problem.

The U.S. places India at Level 2 on Wednesday issued a new travel advisory for countries including India, which its officials said is “user friendly” as it is based on ready-to-understand level of advice ranging from one to four.
India has been ranked Level 2 (exercise increased caution) while Pakistan has been places in Level 3 (reconsider travel). Level 1 advises travellers to exercise normal precaution, while Level 4, which has countries like Afghanistan, recommends “Do Not Travel“.
“These improvements will provide US citizens with clear, timely, and reliable safety and security information worldwide,” the State Department said.
Now every country has a travel advisory based on this system, which has replaced all the previous such advisories.
Placing India on Level 2, the State Department identified “crime and terrorism” for Americans to exercise increased caution. However, it asks Americans not to travel to Jammu and Kashmir, except for eastern Ladakh and Leh and not to venture within 10 miles of the India-Pakistan border due to the “potential for armed conflict“.
The State Department explained that while it will issue an overall travel advisory level for every country, levels of advice may vary for specific locations or areas within a country.
“Indian authorities report rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crime, such as sexual assault, has occurred at tourist sites and in other locations,” the new India travel advisory said.
Terrorists or armed groups are active in east-central India, primarily in rural areas, it added.
“Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities,” it said.
Ranking Pakistan on Level 3, the State Department asked Americans to reconsider travel to this country due to terrorism.
It advises Americans not to travel to travel to Balochistan province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) due to terrorism.
Americans are also advised not to travel to Pak-Occupied Kashmir due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.
“Over the past six months, there have been at least 40 significant terrorist attacks across Pakistan, resulting in over 225 deaths and 475 wounded, most of which occurred in Balochistan, KPK, and the FATA. In the past, there have been large-scale terrorist attacks resulting in hundreds of casualties,” it said.
In a India vs South Africa 2nd Test match build-up, few elements make for a juicy debate the way dissecting a combination of the playing eleven does. Why this batsman and why not that. Why a five-bowler attack at the cost of an extra batsman. Why risk a debutant in place of an experienced Test cap.
Experts rarely come to an agreement on these issues with opinions alone adding to the build-up of a game like little else. The Cape Town Test, one that India lost to South Africa by 72 runs in almost four days, with one of those days getting robbed by rain, led to one such build-up. The young debutant Jasprit Bumrah’s selection over the more experienced Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav wasn’t spared either, except that the bowler with the unorthodox action, mere 24 years of age, put an end to this one debate after bowling the spell of the Test match.
Benching Lokesh Rahul to open with Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay; benching Ajinkya Rahane at No. 5 and opting for Rohit Sharma; and not roping in the tall Ishant Sharma to take advantage of the Newlands wicket still remain a topic of discussion and will continue to, perhaps, until the start of the second Test.
The case for India vs South Africa 2nd Test match Rahul being included in the first Test itself looked justified, given that the 25-year-old was in good touch, barring the last Test match he played in Nagpur. With both Dhawan and Vijay not doing themselves any favours, especially the former for having been sloppy in the field too, the team management can be expected to take some stern decisions.
India vs South Africa 2nd Test match Rahul could make his way back at the cost of Dhawan and not Vijay, given that the latter still happens to be a more experienced hand given the conditions in South African. Yet, it’ll have to be seen what skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri have in mind after they visit Centurion on Thursday.
“Nothing is more beautiful than freedom, and nothing more grotesque than its molestation.” -Bryant McGill.
Nagpur: The city that’s given life to many beautiful souls, some people that reside here I’m very close to. The city that carries the love letter of life, the essence of it in every breathe we take. It’s heartbreaking to witness such a monstrous act that took place in this soulful city of ours on 29th of December.
29th Dec surely didn’t turn out the day like other days. Where the townspeople felt at home, no matter in whatever part of the city they were. But, on 29th Dec the scenario changed. Two monstrous incidents surfaced in Nagpur that day, turning the city upside down thus bringing the Vale Of Shadows upon it.
According to the sources, the first incident took place at around 1:30pm on Friday afternoon. It’s a case of child abuse and molestation. Coming to the point, the 10 year old girl was asked to go to a grocery shop for the purchase of murmura (puffed rice). The girl and her mother are the residents of Shantinagar. So, the girl went to the shop of accused Dilip Kisan Parse (45), who’s a resident of Telipura, Pevtha.
There, at his shop, the girl asked Dilip for murmura (puffed rice), but instead he took advantage of the situation and took her to his house and molested her by indulging in vulgar, obscene acts.
After she returned to her home, she tried to put all that happened to her into words, with tears in her eyes she narrated the nasty incident to her mother. Who instantly headed to Shantinagar police station and registered a case.
The police feeling the tyranny of the incident, acted almost instantly, and arrested the accused Dilip Parse. ASI Kushwaha who’s handling the case, booked the accused under sections 354 (A) (1) of the IPC read with sub-sections 6, 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCOS). The police is further investigating the matter.
The second incident did take place in Mankapur on Friday at around 10pm. The 30 year old claimant told the police that whilst she was sitting at the gate of her house, accused Devendra Shyamlal Pandey (28) suddenly caught hold of her hand and resorted to indecent acts. Further adopting the inhuman form he even hurled abuses at her family members and also threatened to kill them.
According to the survey conducted by Humanitarian Aid Organisation World Vision India, in India, one in every two children become victim of sexual abuse. The organization also revealed that one in every five do not feel safe because of the fear of being sexually abused. Despite one in every two children being a victim of Child Sexual Abuse, there stands a huge silence.
Speaking of the Capital of India, in Delhi, an average of 6 rapes and 15 molestations blanket the city with darkness each day. The statistics of 2015 are most likely the highest if we consider the span of last 15 years. In 2015, Delhi witnessed 5,192 cases of molestation, 2,095 cases of rape and 82 cases that comes under POCSO Act. And, other lots that haven’t been reported. You feel the horror of it?
There are a few things that’d possibly help minimize the rate and if we raise a long term resolution to its full potential the picture would change soon.
(1) Cut poverty.
(2) Improve education. And, encourage mixed classrooms. For people mostly have same sex friends, and thus they tend to be repressed about sex and related issues. Too much of it turns to perversion and crime.
(3) Provide sex education at elementary and senior school level.
(4) Promote the welfare of a girl child.
(P. S. Don’t accept an evil you can change.)
Vidarbha capped off their 2017-18 season in style by beating Delhi in the final to lift their maiden title at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
Chasing a paltry target of 29, Vidarbha got home with nine wickets to spare as veteran Wasim Jaffer hit the winning runs to win his ninth Ranji Trophy, the previous eight being for Mumbai.
Fast bowler Rajneesh Gurbani was awarded the Man of the Match for his eight-wicket haul in the match.
Opting to field, Vidarbha bowled out Delhi for 295 in the first innings with Rajneesh Gurbani picking up six wickets.
In reply, Vidarbha notched up a mammoth 547 all out, as Akshay Wadkar struck his maiden century in first-class cricket.
Overnight 528 for seven with wicketkeeper Wadkar unbeaten on 133, Delhi quickly picked up the remaining three wickets in the morning.
Young pacer Navdeep Saini was the most successful bowler for Delhi, returning figures of 5 for 135 after bowling a marathon 36.3 overs.
Delhi were a bowler short through the Vidarbha first innings as left-arm spinner Manan Sharma remained off the field due to a knee injury. Manan, though, batted in the second innings.
In their second innings, Delhi were all out for 280 with Shorey scoring another half-century, a 142-ball 62, while Nitish Rana struck 64.
Vidarbha chased down the 29-run target with a day to spare at the Holkar Stadium, which hosted the title clash of the tournament for the second successive time.
Trailing by 252 runs, Delhi lost opener Kunal Chandela with just 32 runs on the board. And a bigger blow was dealt on the seven-time winners when their most experienced campaigner, Gautam Gambhir, in what looked like a debatable decision, was adjudged out lbw off Gurbani to a ball that seemed to be heading down the leg side.
The out-of-favour India opener looked in good touch during his quick 36 off 37 balls (32 coming in boundaries), and could have helped Delhi’s cause had he stayed longer.
First-innings centurion Shorey and Rana then added 110 runs for the third wicket.
The second session saw Shorey and Rana playing freely, hitting some lovely drives and flicks. However, as the team score reached 164, Delhi lost Shorey, who was given a reprieve by Wasim Jaffer in first slip, to the left-arm spin of Aditya Sarwate.
Rana followed suit as he nicked the impressive Gurbani to Wadkar behind the stumps. Like in the first innings, Gurbani was again bowling his heart out and swung the new ball to good effect.
Himmat Singh, who had a fifty in the first essay, was bowled by off-spinner Akshay Wakhare before he could open his account.
And then came a reckless shot by skipper Rishabh Pant (32), an attempted heave off Siddhesh Neral leading to his dismissal as Delhi ran out of batting options. This was an over after Pant was let off by Wadkar, who missed an easy stumping chance.
GM announces exit from Indian domestic market on May 18
Recently General Motors (GM) announce that it is pulling out of selling cars in India and the current manufacturing plant would be used for exports. GM’s Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra is scrapping a $1 billion investment in India and halting sales of Chevrolet models there altogether. Currently GM has less than 1% of share in total car market. Remember GM came into India in 1994 before Toyota, Volkswagen and even before Hyundai. But GM was lost somewhere in crowed space So GM announces exit from India domestic market on May 18.
General Motors (GM) announced last month that it will stop the domestic sales of its cars in India, but will continue its export operations from the country. GM, that operates through the Chevrolet brand, however said that it will continue its domestic sales till December end this year. It further assured its customers that they will continue its after-sales operations for its existing customer base long after.
The announcement came on May 18, mid month and seems that the news of its exit from the Indian market has resulted in customers choice for Chevrolet cars. This was as the company sold the least number of cars in a year during May.
The company’s dealers are distraught. They warn of job losses (around 15,000) and potential losses of thousands of crores, mostly from around 18,000 GM vehicles in stock that will probably not find any buyers now.
Equally distraught are customers. Tanveer Alam, an Indore-based businessman, is worried about the resale value of his Chevrolet Cruze (automatic), a premium sedan, for which he paid Rs17.5 lakh only a month and half ago.
The suddenness of the announcement has taken everyone by surprise. According to a communication from GM Announces exit to its dealers, the company’s service arrangement with the latter will end on 31 December. Mint has seen a copy of the communication.
Mohit Arora, a partner at Singapore-based investment consulting firm, Mondriaan Group, said, “GM should have given a longer runway to its India operations. The transition cannot be so abrupt,” said Arora, citing the instance of Suzuki Motor Corp. which took three years to wind up its operations in Europe.
In an email response, a spokesperson at GM India said, “Last week’s announcement was a difficult one for GM Announces exit and a decision that was not taken lightly at all. It came after a lot of careful considerations and planning and after we assessed many different options.”
With monthly average sales of less than 900 vehicles, GM has been a laggard in the Indian market. The Tavera recall of 2013, when the company recalled 114,000 vehicles over problems related to emissions was a flashpoint. But hopes rose with the India visit of GM’s chief executive Mary Barra, in July 2015 during which she announced closing of company’s Halol, Gujarat facility, and a fresh investment of a billion dollars to breathe life into the company’s sputtering India operations.
GM dealers Mint spoke to are angry. They allege that executives at the India subsidiary were aware of the exit plan but kept them in the dark. “They kept giving us false assurances whenever we confronted them on the rumours,” one dealer who asked not to be identified claimed.
The GM India spokesperson said the final decision was made very recently (before last week’s announcement) and until then it proceeded with the previously stated plans. “As soon as the business decision was made, we updated all our stakeholders as early as we possibly could,” she said.
On 19 May, this dealer and many others received a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) from GM. Mint has a copy of this document that speaks of a “transition assistance programme” to prepare the dealers for expiration of retailer sales and service agreement on 31 December 2017.
Two dealers, including the one cited in the first instance, said they would not sign the agreement. They said the company’s dealers have asked FADA (the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations) to intervene on their behalf.
GM Announces exit from India, spokesperson cited earlier said the company is meeting dealers individually and working through a plan that addresses their concerns while it fulfils obligations to its customers. “Given the commercial nature of these discussions, these discussion are confidential,” she said.
“How do they expect us to honour the service commitment when we are incurring such a huge loss?” a third dealer asked, speaking on condition of anonymity. Owners such as Alam fear being caught in the cross-fire between the company, which will soon leave and its aggrieved dealers.

Even vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu has not been spared from the menace of fake advertisements.
During a discussion in the Rajya Sabha, initiated by Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Aggarwal, on adulteration of food articles, Naidu, who is the House chairman narrated how he was duped by an advertisement and ended up losing Rs1000.
Naidu told members that shortly after becoming the vice president, he came across an advertisement of a medication that promised to help lose a certain amount of weight in 28 days. It was priced at Rs1230, he said.
“I paid the money but after some days received a packet. When I opened it, there was a note which said that I have to pay some Rs1000 again to get the original medicine,” Naidu said.
It was then that Naidu shot off a letter to Union consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan highlighting his experience.
The latter immediately ordered an inquiry and informed Naidu that the company that issued the advertisement was based in United States. “There should be something done about such advertisements,” he said.
Paswan replied that his ministry is working on a new legislation to take action against companies that make false promises through advertisements.
The Maharashtra government has given its nod to the development of the Nagpur airport on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model with a private player operating it for 60 years with an expected investment of Rs1,700 crore. The airport will have two runways, one with the capacity to operate cargo aircrafts. It will also have an additional terminal building and commercial facilities, making it the second most important airport in the state after Mumbai. The proposal is expected to get the cabinet’s nod in the next few weeks.
The decision to move the proposal before the state cabinet for Request For Proposal (RFP) of the airport’s development was taken in a board meeting of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), headed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The developed airport will have an additional runway of 4,000 meters X 45 meters, besides the existing runway to enable the operations of the cargo and military operations.
“The finalised bidder will have to invest Rs1,600 crore in first phase and Rs 100 crore in the second to design, finance, build, operate the airport for 30 years on PPP model. The contract, which has the revenue sharing clause, will have the provision of its renewal for 30 more years. The Nagpur airport is the second busiest after Mumbai and the cargo activities are likely to go up once the MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) is fully operational. The new runway will also facilitate operations of the Indian Air Force, which has a base in Nagpur,” said an official privy to the development.
The airport in the CM’s hometown Nagpur will be the first airport owned by the state to be handed to a private player for construction and operation. “We have given five small airports owned by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation for their operation to Reliance Airports. This will be the first airport owned by the state to hand over to the bidder for development and operations thereafter. This enables the private players to bring in their expertise, complete the project in stipulated period and make necessary modifications whenever needed,” the officer said.
Suresh Kakani, vice-chairman and managing director of MADC, said the project is expected to be completed in four years after the award of the bid. “We have completed the process of Request For Quotation with good response from the bidders. The CM has directed us, on Thursday, to put up proposal for RFP in the next 15 days for the cabinet nod.”
An eight-year-old male tiger was killed in a road accident on Friday evening, about 35 km from Nagpur near Bazargaon on the Nagpur-Amravati four-lane highway on National Highway 6. While wildlife experts identified the tiger as Bajirao, one of the most famous and oldest tigers from Bor Wildlife Sanctuary, the forest department refused to confirm its identity.
Officials from the forest department said the incident took place between 7pm and 7.30pm.
Members of Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) said that the tiger was T2 or Bajirao. The Bor Wildlife Sanctuary, which spans 138.12 sq km and is located 60km from Nagpur in Wardha district. “Our field officers who went to the spot identified the tiger as Bajirao. Bajirao was the most dominant male at Bor, who had a massive territory in the area, and fathered eight to nine cubs. It is a huge loss to the Bor Wildlife Sanctuary and Maharashtra,” said Nitin Desai, director, central India, WPSI adding that Bor has close to 10 tigers.
However, forest officials did not confirm the identity of the tiger. “As of now, we are not confirming or denying whether the tiger was Bajirao. However, it is a male tiger, between seven to eight years old, who came from Bor Wildlife Sanctuary,” said G Mallikarjuna deputy conservator of forest, Nagpur. “The animal received severe injuries to his head and hind legs, and was killed due to the impact of the speeding vehicle. We have rushed the animal to a treatment centre in Nagpur for a post-mortem. We will only be able to declare the identity of the tiger after the post-mortem is conducted and camera trap images are matched.”
Mallikarjuna added that CCTV footage from the highway would be monitored to track the vehicle that killed the animal.
Friday’s incident takes the toll of tiger deaths this year in the state to 24, according to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
Anish Andheria, president, Wildlife Conservation Trust, also said the tiger was Bajirao. “It is a huge loss to the state as the tiger had a huge territory, right from Bor to Kalmeshwar in Nagpur, which is over 150 sq kms,” he said. “The tiger could have been saved if there were underpasses at this location or any other mitigation measures at these killer roads.”

Israel is to name a planned new railway station close to Judaism’s hallowed Western Wall in annexed east Jerusalem after US President Donald Trump, the transport minister has said.
Trump has been lauded by the Jewish state – and sparked international condemnation – by breaking with years of US policy to recognise the holy city as Israel’s capital.
Minister Israel Katz approved a plan on Tuesday to extend a high-speed rail line under construction between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem into the Jewish Quarter of the Old City and build a station next to the Western Wall, a statement said.
The station close to the holiest site where Jews are permitted to pray will be called “Donald John Trump“, the minister ordered, in tribute to his “historic and courageous decision” on Jerusalem.
Trump’s controversial shift on the holy city has sparked angry protests by Palestinians and was rejected in a non-binding UN General Assembly resolution.
Israel seized the eastern part of Jerusalem – including the Western Wall – in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed it in a move not recognised by the international community.
Israelis see the whole city as their indivisible capital, while the Palestinians view the east as the capital of their future state.
The Western Wall, the last remnant of the second Jewish temple, is at the foot of the Haram al-Sharif compound housing the Al-Aqsa mosque and the golden-topped Dome of the Rock, the third holiest site in Islam.
The new railway line is scheduled to start linking Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in 2018, cutting the journey time to less than 30 minutes.
The ministry puts the cost of the 35-miles line, which will also serve the town of Modiin and Ben Gurion airport, at around seven billion shekels (£1.5bn).
The World Health Organization is adding an unexpected gaming disorder to its list of mental health conditions in 2018. Next year, people who play an excessive amount of video games could find themselves diagnosed with “gaming disorder.”
WHO’s beta draft of its upcoming 11th update of International Classification of Diseasescharacterizes gaming disorder as “a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behaviour (‘digital gaming’ or ‘video-gaming’), which may be online (i.e., over the internet) or offline, manifested by: 1) impaired control over gaming (e.g., onset, frequency, intensity, duration, termination, context); 2) increasing priority given to gaming to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other life interests and daily activities; and 3) continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.”
The inclusion of gaming disorder in the ICD-11 means health care workers and doctors can now diagnose someone with the condition.
The description of the condition continues: “The behaviour pattern is of sufficient severity to result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning. The pattern of gaming behaviour may be continuous or episodic and recurrent. The gaming behaviour and other features are normally evident over a period of at least 12 months in order for a diagnosis to be assigned, although the required duration may be shortened if all diagnostic requirements are met and symptoms are severe.”
Not everyone who likes to play video games has gaming disorder — plenty of people play video games without getting a diagnosis. Daphne Bavelier, a professor at the University of Geneva said, depending on the game, and how long and often you play it, video games can be a safe way of improving hand-eye coordination, enhancing problem-solving abilities, relieving stress, connecting people, and living out fantasies, Forbes reported.
Gaming becomes a problem only when it causes “impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.” When you stop controlling the game and it starts controlling you — that’s when WHO’s definition of gaming disorder applies.
Video games have become increasingly popular, with more people of all ages playing a variety of games. Because of this, video game addiction has also become a problem. The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) published in 2013 defined internet gaming disorder as a “condition for further study.” This doesn’t classify it as an official disorder, rather one the American Psychiatric Association says requires additional research. According to the DSM-5, the disorder is most common in male adolescents 12 to 20 years old.
Additionally, a 2009 study found about 8 percent of people from 8 to 18 years old “exhibited pathological patterns of play.” So, while people should continue to enjoy their downtime unwinding with the latest game, the medical community wants to make the public aware, too much of a good thing can be bad.
Children who eat fish at least once a week sleep better and have IQ scores that are 4 points higher, on average, than those who consume fish less frequently or not at all. These findings from the University of Pennsylvania are published in Scientific Reports, a Nature journal.
Previous studies showed a relationship between omega-3s, the fatty acids in many types of fish, and improved intelligence, as well as omega-3s and better sleep. But they’ve never all been connected before. This work, conducted by Jianghong Liu, Jennifer Pinto-Martin, and Alexandra Hanlon of the School of Nursing and Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor Adrian Raine, reveals sleep as a possible mediating pathway, the potential missing link between fish and intelligence.
“This area of research is not well-developed. It’s emerging,” says Liu, lead author on the paper and an associate professor of nursing and public health, in a release. “Here we look at omega-3s coming from our food instead of from supplements.”
For the work, a cohort of 541 9- to 11-year-olds in China, 54% boys and 46% girls, completed a questionnaire about how often they consumed fish in the past month, with options ranging from “never” to “at least once per week.” They also took the Chinese version of an IQ test called the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised, which examines verbal and non-verbal skills such as vocabulary and coding.
Their parents then answered questions about sleep quality using the standardized Children Sleep Habits Questionnaire, which included topics such as sleep duration and frequency of night waking or daytime sleepiness. Finally, the researchers controlled for demographic information, including parental education, occupation, and marital status as well as number of children in the home.
Analyzing these data points, the Penn team found that children who reported eating fish weekly scored 4.8 points higher on the IQ exams than those who said they “seldom” or “never” consumed fish. Those whose meals sometimes included fish scored 3.3 points higher. In addition, increased fish consumption was associated with fewer disturbances of sleep, which the researchers say indicates better overall sleep quality.
“Lack of sleep is associated with antisocial behavior; poor cognition is associated with antisocial behavior,” says Raine, who has appointments in the School of Arts and Sciences and Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine. “We have found that omega-3 supplements reduce antisocial behavior, so it’s not too surprising that fish is behind this.”
Pinto-Martin, who is executive director of Penn’s Center for Public Health Initiatives, as well as the Viola MacInnes/Independence Professor of Nursing and a professor of epidemiology in Penn Medicine, sees strong potential for the implications of this research.
“It adds to the growing body of evidence showing that fish consumption has really positive health benefits and should be something more heavily advertised and promoted,” she says. “Children should be introduced to it early on.” That could be as young as 10 months, as long as the fish has no bones and has been finely chopped, but should start by around age 2.
“Introducing the taste early makes it more palatable,” Pinto-Martin says. “It really has to be a concerted effort, especially in a culture where fish is not as commonly served or smelled. Children are sensitive to smell. If they’re not used to it, they may shy away from it.”
Given the young age of this study group, Liu and colleagues chose not to analyze the details participants reported about the types of fish consumed, though they plan to do so for work on an older cohort in the future. The researchers also want to add to this current observational study to establish, through randomized controlled trials, that eating fish can lead to better sleep, better school performance and other real-life, practical outcomes.
For the moment, the researchers recommend incrementally incorporating additional fish into a diet; consumption even once a week moves a family into the “high” fish-eating group as defined in the study.
“Doing that could be a lot easier than nudging children about going to bed,” Raine says. “If the fish improves sleep, great. If it also improves cognitive performance—like we’ve seen here—even better. It’s a double hit.”
Future of Bitcoin in 2018: Around 2009 a new concept of currency was introduced. The concept seemed a little vague about the usage of this currency but two years later, Bitcoins has emerged as a fast catching trend. Proclaimed as a decentralized digital currency, more people and business have started using Bitcoins. Though the currency is still in its experimental stage regular updating and frequent tweaking is done to improve it in every way possible. Unlike other banking networks Bitcoins are not controlled by anyone. The network has a set of protocols protected by cryptography. It’s a new payment system which has no central authority other than the cryptography (open source software working with the laws of mathematics) which handles the creation and transaction, making it impossible to cheat around the system. The Bitcoins share a public ledger (blockchain ledger) where every transaction is recorded making it a prominent triple entry bookkeeping system and a transparent recorder. Using the peer to peer system and a cryptographic key, transactions are processed between clients. As the key cannot be deciphered it’s a more safe form of internet cash than performing transactions with credit and debit cards.
Future of Bitcoin as with every new emerging trend, the Bitcoins have advantages and disadvantages. But if the obstacles are removed, it might help re-imaging of International finance.
The users have total control over the money, they can send and receive any amount of payments at time of the day. As these transactions are not performed by banks or organizations but between individuals it’s easy as sending a file.
The transactions require no or very less money compared to other online money transfers which stick up a hefty fee, the only service in Bitcoins is done by the miners to facilitate the transaction recording on the block and that doesn’t cost much.
This is the most secure and irreversible form of cash transactions where no personal information is traded. Most people will opt for this method as it removes major hassles involved in other transactions.
Large markets and small businesses have widely accepted it as it helps in quicker and reliable money transfers with very little administration cost.
When other currencies are affected by price fluctuations, the same cannot be said for Bitcoins.

Yo Yo Honey Singh, who fought with bipolar disorder and has recovered now, is all set for a grand comeback with a song in Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Titled Dil Chori.
Makers of the film, starring Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh, shared a teaser of the song over the weekend.
The song’s title reminds us of a hit number by Hans Raj Hans from the 90s, Dil Chori Saada Ho Gaya.
Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety is the first of a three-film contract between T Series and Luv Ranjan. It is said to be a quirky, new age love triangle set in Delhi and UP.
After a controversial absence from the public scene following reports of a fight with Shah Rukh Khan and being in a rehab, Honey Singh said in an interview last year, “Nobody knows this, and I wanted to tell the world myself, not through a spokesperson. The last 18 months were the darkest phase of my life, and I wasn’t in a state to talk to anyone. I know there were rumours that I was in rehab, but I was in my Noida house throughout. Truth is, I was suffering from bipolar disorder. It went on for 18 months, during which I changed four doctors, the medication wasn’t working and crazy things were happening.”
Before his latest tweet, Honey had also shared pictures from the Ganges, and dropped hints in his tweet that he was working on a song. “Chillin at Ganges. Makin #BEATS writing #VERSES. “Jai Ganga Maiya Ki” #YoYo #YoYoHoneySingh #Music,” he tweeted last week.
The Punjabi rapper has been reportedly spending nearly 12 hours a day in studios, making new songs and is likely to reveal the new song around the New Year.
His last song was Aankhon Aankhon from Bhaag Johnny (2015).
High Heels, Blue Eyes, Lungi Dance, Dope Shope, Desi Kalakaar and Angrezi Beat are some of his most popular hits that continue to rule hearts and disco parties.
Produced by Luv Films’ Luv Ranjan, Ankur Garg and Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series, the film is slated to be released on November 3.

“Government! Government! What do I get for all I give, I would like to know! Potholes and Bombs!,” Says Cecil Dawkins of Birmingham, Alabama.
Nagpur: The city that holds nearly 3 million people together and carries a literacy rate of 92.38%, here the matter of potholes is wholly mind-boggling. To be precise, out of every 5 road-accidents that surface in Nagpur, 2 occur due to craters.
In the city tyranny of potholes is more severe than it appears to the naked eye. A pothole is both like the Crucio Curse and the Killing Curse, for it takes numerous lives daily and brings perilous desecration to others.
According to the reports, 30 people die in pothole related accidents every day in India. Noticing the hurricane, our team at Our Nagpur Media carried out a survey, on Thursday 21st December, and the results we got were odious. A visit to Loha Pul area and we found out that within the range of just 40 meters there were 68 potholes. Condition of the Gangabai Ghat Road was no different. On the patch amidst Gangabai Ghat Square and Kumbhar Toli Chowk, the stretch has almost 30 potholes.
Several other roads in the city are in a very bad condition too. North Ambazari Road, Meetha Neem Durgah, Shanti Nagar, Katol road, Sakkardara, Nag Road, Old Bhandara Road, Itwari, Chandrashekhar Azad Square, these are some areas where the conditions seems to have intensified.
The most gigantic pothole in the city is 4ft long, 3ft wide and 1ft deep. Apart from this, there are potholes of various sizes too. Bad roads have caused humongous number of accidents in Nagpur in the last few years and with every passing day the City is witnessing more such cases that now potholes have become matter of life and death for the people residing in Nagpur and for the people who travel to Nagpur for work. Traffic police even claimed and pointed-out that two-wheeler riders are more disposed to accidents due to potholes.
Now it’s no more just the matter or bad roads, slow traffic and wastage of fuel. Pothole has erupted like a volcano, like a tornado it is coming. And, if we keep ignoring it, a day will come where we too would fall prey to this beast.
And, the saddest thing is that even in the winter session time potholes remain the same, unaltered. Looks like NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) doesn’t seem to care a bit about the citizens at all. Even after watching death cuddle a 12 year old son of SRPF head constable everyone seems to be at ease. No one seems to be eager enough to bring life to this city of ours.
So, there’s just this one solution I can think of. As we live in a Democratic Country, we must stand our ground. Just voting a particular party and bringing it to power is not our duty. Our duty is to bring change. Our duty is to bring peace to this world where there is nothing but chaos. Wake up fellow Nagpurians, it’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to take action against the evil. It sure is a bit slow process, but at the end of the day, whilst you’ll be sipping tea or your coffee, you’ll feel content to have helped a bit into making this world a better place. What we must understand here is that we hold this world the same way it’s holding us. It’s nourished us, pruned us over time. It’s given us all that it could. But, now, as it turns out, it’s probably time for us to heal all the scars that we have given to it. We need to bring change and lift the world up with our soul. We need to have faith in the goodness that we all carry. We need to come together as colleagues and make good things happen. We can’t let the world that’s cherished us like a mother turn to dust. We mustn’t accept an evil we can change. In order to make this world a better place we needn’t carry the bulk of the whole issues going on in the world, one good deed at a time is enough. After all it’s not the magnitude of the candle that lights up a dark room, but the size of the light it emits. Think about it. You’ll see the brightest place of all.
