Early detection and Awareness about Breast cancer necessary- Dr. Sushil Mandhaniya
Why do people get breast cancer?
Breast cancer happens when normal cells in the breast change and grow out of control. Breast cancer is much more common in women than in men. But men can get the disease. Women with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop breast cancer. A risk factor is something that may increase the chance of getting a disease.
Risk factors that cannot be changed
Age: The chance of getting breast cancer increases with age. Most women are over 60 years old when they are diagnosed.
Personal health history: Having breast cancer in one breast increases the risk of getting cancer in other breast. Also, having certain types of abnormal breast cells increases the risk of invasive breast cancer.
Family health history: Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease.Having one first-degree relative (mother, sister or daughter) with breast cancer approximately doubles a woman’s risk. Having two first-degree relatives increases her risk about 3-fold.
Genetic risk factors:About 5–10% of breast cancer cases are thought to be hereditary, resulting directly from gene defects (mutations) inherited from a parent.
Dense breast tissue: Women with denser breast tissue (as seen on a mammogram) have more glandular tissue and less fatty tissue, and have a higher risk of breast cancer.
Previous chest radiation: Women (as children or young adults) who had radiation therapy to the chest area as treatment for another cancer (Hodgkin’s disease or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) have a significantly increased risk for breast cancer.
Risk factors that can be changed/lifestyle-related factors
Being overweight or obese after menopause:The chance of getting breast cancer after menopause is higher in women who are overweight or obese
Lack of physical activity:Women who are physically inactive throughout life may have an increased risk of breast cancer
Drinking alcohol:Studies suggest that the more alcohol a woman drinks, the greater her risk of breast cancer
Breast-feeding: Some studies suggest that breast-feeding may slightly lower breast cancer risk, especially if breast-feeding is continued for 1½ to 2 years
Breast cancer early detection
Early detection means using an approach that lets breast cancer get diagnosed earlier than otherwise might have occurred.
Screening
Screening refers to tests and exams used to find a disease, such as cancer, in people who do not have any symptoms.
The American Cancer Society recommends these screening guidelines for breast cancer
Yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health
Clinical breast exam (physical examination of the breast done by a doctor) every year for women 40 and over
Clinical breast exam about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s
Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any breast change promptly to doctor. Breast self-exam is an option for women starting in their 20s
Some women – because of their family history, a genetic tendency or certain other factors should be screened with MRI in addition to mammograms.
Screening mammogram
A mammogram is an x-ray picture of tissues inside the breast. Mammograms can often show a breast lump before it can be felt. They also can show a cluster of tiny specks of calcium. Lumps or specks can be from cancer, precancerous cells or other conditions.
Breast self-exam
It involves the woman herself looking at and feeling each breast for possible lumps, distortions or swelling.
Can breast cancer be prevented?
There is no sure way to prevent breast cancer. But, there are things all women can do that might reduce their risk (those risk factors that are under our control)of getting breast cancer.
Adhere to regular physical activity
Reduce your lifetime weight gain by eating fewer calories and getting regular exercise
Avoid or limit alcohol intake
Women who choose to breast-feed for at least several months may also reduce their breast cancer risk. Avoiding hormone therapy after menopause can also help avoid raising the risk.

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi said in a conversation with Sebastián Vignolo that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be his last.
‘This will be my last World Cup — for sure. The decision has been made,’ Messi said in the conversation.
‘I’m counting down the days until the World Cup. ‘The truth is, there’s a little anxiety, saying: ‘Well, we’re here, what’s going to happen? It’s my last one, how’s it going to go?’. On one hand, I can’t wait for it to arrive but I’m also desperate for it to go well,’ he added.
‘We’re at a very good moment, with a very strong group, but anything can happen at a World Cup,’ he explained. ‘All the matches are difficult, that is what makes a World Cup so special because the favourite are not always the ones who end up winning or even doing as well as you expect.
‘I don’t know if we are the favourites, but Argentina in itself is always a candidate for history, for what it means. We are not the favourites, I think there are other teams that are above us.’
Messi has been in red hot form this season, both for club and country, with Argentina currently on a 35-game unbeaten streak, stretching back to 2019.
The last international competition Messi won was the Copa America last year when they defeated Brazil in the final. The World Cup, however, is a different beast altogether, with Messi having gotten to the final in the 2014 edition but losing out to Germany.
He will surely look to rectify if this is indeed his last World Cup.

Empower women for better society: Dr Mohan Bhagwat
Dr Bhagwat laid emphasis on respecting and involving women in all sectors
Laying stress on empowering women along with men, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarasanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat said, unless women are granted equal status and opportunities, the nation would not develop. Strengthening women is responsibility of entire society and should begin from our own home.
Dr Bhagwat was speaking during the annual Shastra Pujan and Vijayadashami celebrations at RSS headquarters, Reshimbag, here on Wednesday. Padma Shri and renowned mountaineer Santosh Yadav was the guest of honour.
The trend of progress made by the nation in all the sectors is being accepted and appreciated globally. The indication of working towards self-reliance can be seen. The Indian society is being rejuvenated and the trend can be seen in various sectors including sports, education and economy. The route to the progress is not easy, unless entire society joins hand voluntarily. This is only possible with thinking of the nation first, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sects and cooperation, Dr Bhagwat said.
The expected healthy and progressive society is possible with respectable equal opportunity and strength to women. The policy should be framed which is flexible and accepted by all. The hurdles in this path are internal and external.
The essence of Indian Sanatan Dharma is in wishing welfare of all and working for happiness of others. The mindset of our own people has to change. The forces from within and from outside are consistently making efforts to weaken our strengths by spreading divide based on religion and caste. The Sanatan Dharma accepts all irrespective of the faith, religion, language, caste, dressing pattern, food. Only the love for the global society and then environment is given utmost importance, Dr Bhagwat stated. “We must understand the motives of the divisive forces and reject them”, he added.
A large number of social organisations and the government is working towards welfare of the society. They can be successful only with the unbiased support of the society.
Touching upon various sectors Dr Bhagwat said education in mother tongue is being stressed under the National Education Policy. It is wrong that career can be built only by learning through English medium. The path of career is not English, but gaining knowledge and using it in consonance with our conscience for the betterment of the society. Better values can be inculcated by parents and teachers and other family members. These values are related to humanity and not materialistic gains for self.
Health is another sector, where demand for better health services is increasing. But maintaining physical and mental health of the society is more important. Heavy emphasis on materialistic gains is disturbing health of the society and resultantly economy of the nation.
Unless women play important role in education and health the society cannot be healthy, Dr Bhagwat said. Referring to population as a problem, Dr Bhagwat said uncontrolled population may pose danger, particularly on food security. But control should not create imbalance in the society.
The issue of discussion with Muslims by RSS functionary is not new. RSS believes in bringing together people from all walks of life. Discussion with Muslim leaders started when Golwalkar Guruji was the chief of RSS. Without understanding the efforts and manner in which RSS volunteers function, hate is propagated against it and the Hindu culture. “We expect that any wrong in the society should be condemned by the entire society, irrespective of religion, caste or region.
In bring about the desired change in the society, empowering women and involving them in all the sectors is essential, Dr Bhagwat said.
Santosh Yadav
Padma Shri Santosh Yadav, who is the only female mountaineer to scale the Everest twice is an environmentalist and a motivational speaker also laid emphasis on the Sanatan Sanskar, which speaks of equality for all. She spoke of positivity in thinking, inspirational talks, healthy thinking, love and affection for all, which is essence of Sanatan Sanskriti.
The biased and prejudiced approach can be shed away by knowing about RSS thoughts and functioning. Building a better Indian society, where everyone is respected, is responsibility of all of us, she added. This will ensure peaceful and healthy existence of the mother Earth and entire human society.

For each of us the festive season has a different meaning, and there are different aspects to look forward to. However, there is one thing that’s common across cities, cultures and families – and this is the abundance of delicious food. Festivals are a prime time to indulge in decadent food – sweet or savoury, and it is during this time most of us throw caution to the wind, and in several cases over binge. With the festive season here, and festivities fully abuzz, be sure to follow these tips to stay fit and healthy even during the celebrations:
Replace typical festive snacks with healthy alternatives like Almonds!
Traditionally any festive spread includes indulgent food and friend snack, most of which aren’t known to be healthy. Think samosas, shakkarpara, pooris, chips, chakli – most of these definitely feature during the festivities. To avoid snacking on oily and fried food, my first tip is to replace them with healthier alternatives like Almonds. Almonds make for a tasty snack, which will also add positively to your health. Almonds provide energy and will keep you active through the festivities. Besides this almonds are known to have satiating properties, which will help keep you full in between meals. So while shopping for your snacks, be sure to add almonds to the cart to enjoy a healthier festive season. When it comes to eating them, you could choose to consume them plain, salted, roasted or even flavoured. Alternately if you like experimenting, try making a batch of Rasam Spiked Almonds or Channa Masala Almonds by mixing your flavours to create healthy, and yet tasty snacks which your guests and you can easily munch on.
Dark Chocolate for dessert!
Any festival is incomplete without sweet – homemade or otherwise, sweet sugar laden dishes are a staple during the festivities. My tip here is, instead of adding typical desserts like barfi or gulab jamun, opt for unconventional forms of sweet like dark chocolate. Dark chocolate, generally contains less sugar than milk chocolate and is also a rich source of antioxidants and minerals. However, although dark chocolate is a good alternative to sweets, moderation is the key. When you have the craving, you can indulge a little. Besides this, there are several ways in which you can dark chocolate in your diet, ensuring your cravings are satisfied but in moderation: You can grate it over your fruit salads, giving it a bitter-sweet taste or even melt the dark chocolate over a saucepan and dip roasted almonds/ cut fruits like strawberries into it, to snack on when hunger strikes.
Just grill it!
Deep frying food usually saturates all the nutrients they contain and while the end result might be tasty but overall they aren’t the healthy choice. When any food is fried, it absorbs a lot of fat and ends up becoming a high calorie food. Over a period of time, this can cause unhealthy weight gain as well. To make sure your festive food is delicious yet healthy, my tip is – instead of frying, opt for grilling food. For instance you can make grilled vegetable kebabs and stuff it in paneer or your pick of vegetables such as carrots, beans, onions, capsicums, etc. Add some spices along with it and you will definitely not end up feeling guilty about your choice. Grilling is better as the resultant food is low in calorie than fried foods and most importantly it makes sure the nutrient content in the food is intact.
Working out and maintaining a healthy diet are two sides of the same coin. While you are trying to avoid typical festive snacks with healthy alternatives, also try to include some basic forms of workout into your routine. As most of you might be wary of going to a gym, you can do some body weight workouts in the comfort of your home. Some of the body weight workouts include squats, push-ups, lunges, crunches and planks – the best part is you don’t require any equipment! Try incorporating any form of workout in your daily routine for at least 30-45 min daily.
