IAF’s Sukhoi-30 and Mirage aircraft crash in Madhya Pradesh
A Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000 aircraft crashed near Morena in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Search and rescue operations have been launched, informed Defence sources.
The two aircraft had taken off from the Gwalior air base in Madhya Pradesh where an exercise was going on.
According to the sources, the Sukhoi-30 MKI had two pilots while the Mirage had one during the crash that occurred in the bordering area of Morena and Bharatpur (Rajasthan). One fighter jet fell in Bharatpur and the other one in Morena.

Flipkart hosts the fourth edition of ‘Crafted by Bharat’ on 74th Republic Day to support Indian artisans
Bengaluru – January 25, 2023: Flipkart, India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, today announced the fourth edition of the Flipkart Samarth ‘Crafted by Bharat’ event which will be held from January 26-27 this year in honor of India’s 74th Republic Day. The event will celebrate India’s rich culture of handicrafts and handlooms by featuring over 100,000 products from more than 300 art forms across the country.

These SuPoshan Sanginis are nurturing young
girls in the hinterland
Strap: On this National Girl Child day, we take a look at how several SuPoshan Sanginis are working relentlessly towards alleviating malnutrition and anaemia among young girls residing in the rural districts of India.
Today, we see women globally breaking the glass ceiling and making commendable progress in fields such as technology, entertainment, healthcare, and others. But there are many young girls in rural areas who are suffering from anaemia and malnutrition which is making their dreams of making it big, even more difficult, every single day.
These SuPoshan Sanginis are nurturing young girls in the hinterland
Even today, malnutrition and anaemia among children and young girls are prevalent, especially in the rural sectors. The foremost reasons are lack of awareness, proper information, and guidance.
With an aim to create awareness regarding these health conditions, Fortune SuPoshan Project, a CSR initiative of Adani Wilmar Limited – implemented by the Adani Foundation, has been relentlessly working with children under five years of age, women of reproductive age, and young girls residing across 20 rural districts in India.
These issues are addressed and handled by SuPoshan Sanginis – village health volunteers – who play an important role in raising awareness about health and nutrition, referring severely malnourished children, promoting backyard Nutri-garden, and encouraging behavioral change within the project’s target populations.
However, things on the field are not always easy for these Sanginis. Financial constraints, social stigma, and taboos are some of the challenges that they face regularly. During a routine home visit, SuPoshan Sangini, Sumitra Botre, 35, came across 19-year-old Karishma Kishanrao Raut residing in Sarra village, Nagpur, Maharashtra.
The adolescent girl looked pale, underweight, and showed signs of low concentration. But the parents had already spent a lot on her treatment with no signs of improvement and were not ready to spend any more. “Lack of financial support and awareness often are some of the major obstacles that hindered Karishma’s treatment. It took regular counseling for over 3-4 months by team Suposhan, for the girl’s father to realize the severity of the issue,” says, Sumitra.
When the team took Karishma to the nearest health center, they found her haemoglobin levels to be severely low, and was diagnosed as anaemic. She was immediately admitted to the district hospital and in a week’s time, she started showing signs of improvement. “We continued with regular follow-ups and counselling even after the treatment. Karishma’s family is happy and relieved to see their daughter healthy, happy and are grateful for our timely intervention,” adds Botre.
It is not always the lack of awareness but difficulty getting through to the parents which becomes the tougher challenge. Another Sangini, Kalavatiben Vasava, 28, adds, “During a group discussion with adolescent girls, I came across 21-year-old Amita Nandod from Bhuchhad village, Gujarat, who would constantly feel lethargic and chronic fatigue.”
She further adds, “After conducting a few tests at the local health center, it was revealed that her hemoglobin levels were very low. Her parents were laborers and her father had severe substance abuse issues due to making the parents understand the severity of the issue became a big task for us Sanginis.”
So, Kalavatiben decided to help Amita by educating her on different food groups that can increase her hameoglobin levels, showing how to prepare nutritious meals with locally available ingredients, and the importance of external sources of iron and folic acid. “These small steps helped Amita to get better and healthier. He added that the university education has built a solid foundation for the students to succeed. It has been my personal wish and aspiration to synchronise the Indian Knowledge Systems with the education delivery.
We have initiated the ‘Centre of Advanced Indian Studies’ in order to derive from the rich Indian knowledge systems in order to respond to our contemporary needs while at the same time absorbing our intellectual traditions. We envisage to situate the teaching and learning in all disciplines, including fundamental sciences and technology, in the Indian context.
Hrridaysh Deshpande, Vice Chancellor, Ajeenkya DY Patil University presented the University report including achievements and activities of the year. He said,the University has already begun a core infrastructure upgrade which includes classrooms, common spaces and the digital library. We completed the extended capacity of our student accommodation. Simultaneously, we’ve begun redesigning and redeveloping our IT infrastructure to cater and respond to the digital transformation currently underway in all areas: teaching and learning; administration and accounts.
He said that we are committed to implementing the National Education Policy 2020 in its entirety. The National Education Policy emphasizes multi-disciplinary programs. While many of our programs are inherently multi-disciplinary, we introduced Minors this year. Minors are meant to extend to our students the possibility of a specialization besides their chosen major.
Hrridaysh Deshpande added that we have carefully selected and curated the programs to reflect the future of industry and future of jobs. At the core of these initiatives is our proprietary, Hyflex Learning Model. The Hyflex model integrates face-to-face, online learning and on-site learning experiences in service of intended learning objectives. The model actively helps all learners in being curious and creative. It carefully choses experiences for their learning potential so that our students practice and deepen emergent skills, encounter novel and unpredictable situations that support new learning, and learn from mistakes, and successes.
Around 879 students across 14 Masters programs and 38 Bachelors programs including Management, Design, Engineering, Law, Hotel Management, Film and Media were conferred degrees. At the graduation ceremony, 151 students from various courses were honored with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for academic excellence.

This event will highlight the launch of an unmatched partnership between two of the world’s most successful NGOs providing free mid-day meals to children in government-funded schools. Share Our Strength, a US-based national NGO facilitating school meals to hungry kids in the US and abroad, and Akshaya Patra, the world’s largest school meals provider, have partnered in India to accelerate the impact in the effort to serve hot, fresh, nutritious meals to 3 million children everyday by 2025. Share Our Strength is partner-agnostic and plans to expand its partner-NGO network in India to include several others in the next few years to help build a national awareness campaign. Akshaya Patra currently serves nearly 2 million school meals in India every day, and aspires to expand its reach to add another million kids partly aided by strategic partnership with Share Our Strength. Beginning with the Nagpur event on Sunday – February 26, 2023, the two organizations plan to host a series of awareness building and fundraising events in many cities across India to include food, music, drama, and celebrities such as master chefs, famous athletes, artists, musicians, sports stars, physicians and nutritionists from India and USA. 100% of funds raised will go to the program partner NGOs in India. This particular event aims to help fund Akshaya Patra build a brand-new kitchen for its Nagpur operation to serve meals to15,000 public school kids.
Often, children can be the most vulnerable segment of the society, being unable to advocate for themselves. Share Our Strength and Akshaya Patra believe that hunger, especially child hunger is a solvable problem by connecting people who care with solutions that work to feed hungry kids. Creating awareness and contributing funds are tangible ways in which the needle can move on this effort. Those present at the event will include leadership team members from both organizations, popular chefsSanjeev Kapoor and Vishnu Manoharand other celebrities. Live music will accompany great food from the city’s top brands. While visitors enjoy the memorable experience, their contribution will pay for one child’s school meal for an entire year which will be matched by Share Our Strength to double the impact of the funds raised (i.e. another child’s meal secured). Rishi Sunak gets fined by police for failing to wear seat belt
British police fined prime minister Rishi Sunak on Friday for travelling in the back seat of a car without wearing his seat belt while filming a social media clip, a potentially embarrassing blow as he tries to revive his party’s fortunes.
Sunak, who apologised on Thursday for a “brief error of judgement”, filmed a video in the back seat of his car while travelling in the north of England, without wearing a seat belt.
Local police said later that day they would investigate, after the clip – published on Sunak’s Instagram account – was widely shared by other users who commented on him not wearing a seatbelt.
“The prime minister fully accepts this was a mistake and has apologised. He will of course comply with the fixed penalty,” a spokesman from Sunak’s Downing Street office said in a statement.
It is the second penalty Sunak has received from police after last year they found he broke Covid-19 lockdown rules, along with then-prime minister Boris Johnson.
The fine represents a new challenge for Sunak, whose Conservative Party trails far behind the opposition Labour Party in the opinion polls, ahead of an election due by January 2025 at the latest.
Police in the northern English county of Lancashire confirmed that they had issued a 42-year-old man from London with a penalty notice.
In Britain a person can be fined up to 500 pounds ($620) if they fail to wear a seatbelt, unless there is an exemption, such as for emergency services, in taxi or when a driver is reversing.
Sunak becomes the second prime minister after Johnson to have been fined in such a manner.
Rejected Indian Idol contestants who are more popular than the winners
There are some reality shows where the contestants who get rejected before reaching the finale make a bigger name for themselves in life than the winners. One such show is Indian Idol. Some of its participants who didn’t lift the trophy are now successful names in the music industry.

3.Sireesha Bhagavatula
Sireesha Bhagavatula was a part of Indian Idol 10. The 26-year-old singer is from Machilipatnam and is in news now for her superhit song ‘Ghode Pe Kyun Sawar Hai’ from Qala. The season was won by Pawandeep but Sireesha impressed many and after singing in Telugu reality TV shows, she impressed judges in Indian Idol 12 as well. She has sung a few songs in Mani Ratnam’s hit movie PS:1 which had music by none other than AR Rahman. Right now her song from Qala is a rage among actors and many reels are being made on it.
4.Neha Kakkar
Neha Kakkar, who has several popular Bollywood numbers and hit remixes under her belt, had participated in the second season of Indian Idol. She was just 18 then and got eliminated quite early on. Her success, however, speaks another story. Today, she enjoys huge popularity on social media and her songs are loved by her loyal fans. Not just this, she is also seen as a judge on Indian Idol, a platform where she was once rejected.
5. Rohit Raut
Rohit made a name for himself by participating in Indian Idol 11. He was a runner-up in the show and lost the trophy to Sunny Hindustani. His debut song was Yaara Yaara in Duniyadari. He has sung for several Marathi films and turned into a music director in 2019. He has also done title tracks and songs of popular TV shows.
6. Meiyang Chang
Meiyang Chang was seen in the third season of Indian Idol and reached the 5th spot. He did not bag the winner’s trophy but managed to make a name for himself by hosting several television shows including Indian Idol 4. He has done a few movies and web series as well.
7. Bhoomi Trivedi
Bhoomi Trivedi auditioned for Indian Idol 3 and got selected but due to jaundice, she was forced to leave the show. Something similar happened the next season as well but this time it was her aunt’s death that led her to quit the show. She then participated in Indian Idol 5 and became a runner-up. She has popular Bollywood songs to her credit including Ram Chahe Leela, Dance Ke Legend and Udi Udi Jaye among several others.
8. Antara Mitra
Antara Mitra participated in Indian Idol and got to as far as the top 5 but she got eliminated thereafter. Years later, Antara has earned a place in the music industry. She has sung in multiple languages. She has popular Bollywood songs like Bheegi Si Bhaagi Si, Gerua and Janam Janam songs to her credit among others.

What made you say Yes to the ‘A Spin Around Dubai’?
Jamie: Our first reaction was why shouldn’t we say Yes? When MX Player offered us the show, we were so happy that Jesse and I could do something like this together as we’ve never done something like this before. It was not acting; it was more like hosting, experiencing sights and sounds in the city & our compatability together. We were like, ‘Mazze karne ke liye koi paise dey raha hai le lo.’ Jesse is my travel buddy. I thought it was a great opportunity for us as brother-sister, ‘The Lever Kids’ to put ourselves out there.

It’s a difficult task, how did you balance comedy and adventure together?
Jamie: Comedy comes naturally to us. Hum kuch bhi karte hai to hum sochte hai ki hum logon ko hassayee kaise. Entertaining people and making them laugh were the core idea of the series. Viewers love the rapport and the bond we share, which is exactly what we’ve tried bringing on-screen in ‘A Spin Around Dubai’. We’ve tried to make it different from our social media content and show the real us. A brother-sister duo going on a trip together is unusual, and the team at MX Player wanted us to explore it as naturally as possible.
Jesse: Bahar itna serious mahol hai ki people just want to enjoy and laugh. People want to experience something light-hearted and fun, they like our duo.

Your social media content has taken the internet by storm. But how was the experience of working together professionally?
Jamie: It was the first time we’ve collaborated professionally and hosted a show. So, we had to be ourselves for the camera. It brought out our fun side more. We were also learning how to be natural and enjoy ourselves while being on camera. It was a great learning experience, and we understood that we could work together and survive with each other. Overall, we are really thankful for this opportunity.
Jesse: Not many people get opportunities like this to travel to different places. We had some small fights, but, everything was productive. We wanted each other to do better, and I think we fared quite well too.
How has the feedback been to date?
Jaime: We’ve asked a lot of our family and friends who have watched the show. Firstly, they were very proud and excited to see us in a show like this.They also enjoyed seeing a brother-sister host a travel show together as the concept is very fresh. Also, generally, because we have a natural comic side, and we got feedback that it is a quick, snappy watch, just 3 episodes and you can literally get a peak of all that Dubai can offer to a tourist. You get to see unique experiences and not just the usual stuff one thinks of doing in Dubai.
Jesse: People want more, they want us to travel more, and I hope we’ll meet their expectations soon.
How is your chemistry with Johny Lever as an actor, does he critically analyze you both? How is he as a mentor?
Jamie: He is very strict and tough. He is a typical South Indian dad and koi family discount nahi hai. I remember when I started my career with him, I was very confident because I had some stage experience. He had offered me a 20 minutes slot in his independent show for a filler segment. When I started working with him, jo meri halat tight ki hai because he was a boss, he forgot that he is my father. He was a tough boss and he used to sometimes scold me for my performances. He once scolded me ‘Ki ye karogi tum meri audience ke saamne, ticket khareed ke aai hai meri audience, theek se joke bolo; and after this, he used to ask me to tell a joke. He is very strict when it comes to his art, and he doesn’t compromise with it at all. Talking as an audience, he has never disappointed us in his acts. In every film, he has taken a step up; even at this age, he still has that spark in him. His performance in his latest project Cirkus also got him plenty of viewer adulation. So, he never compromises in his art and unhone hume bahut seriously bola hai ki agar tum iss field me aa rahi ho, then be the best, warna matt karo.
Jesse: He believes ‘Kaam se gaddari nahi.’ If dad likes the work that we’ve done, then we fear nothing as we know we’ve given our best. He is our toughest critic!

Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani got engaged today in a ceremony at the Ambani residence in Mumbai.
