Nagpur is the divisional headquarters of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and also holds one of the three bus workshops in the state. MSRTC runs cheaper transport service for intercity, interstate, interstate travel. It has two bus stations in Nagpur viz. Nagpur Bus Sthanak (CBS-1) at Ganeshpeth and MorBhawan (CBS-2) at Jhansi Rani Square, Sitabuldi. It operates 1600 daily services from CBS-1 to long and short distances within state and to places in other surrounding states. It also operates 750 daily services from CBS-2 to short distances within Vidarbha. Its services include semiluxury 2+2 NEEM AARAAM, Parivartan 2+2, Asiad 2+2, and ordinary ST 2+3.Bus services are available for big cities in and around the states like Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Raipur, Satna, Rewa, Raipur, Panna, Amravati, Raipur, Jagdalpur, Bilaspur, Mandla, Katni, Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, Mumbai, Nanded, Akola, Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Rajnandgaon, Parbhani and Gondia.
Nagpur Railway Station located in the four corners of the country
Due to its central location, Nagpur is a very important Nagpur Railway Station and a transit for almost all the trains that connect the country lengthwise and breadthwise, especially trains connecting India’s four major metropoles (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata) located in the four corners of the country.
A total of 242 trains from various destinations halt at Nagpur, making it one of the most busiest junctions all over the country. These include passenger, express, mail, Duronto, rajdhani, garib rath trains. Of these 65 are daily trains and 26 terminate/originate from Nagpur. Almost 150,000 passengers board/leave Nagpur Railway Station Daily. The main railway station in Nagpur city is the Nagpur railway station, while the much smaller Ajni, Itwari, Kalamna, Kamptee, and Khapri are the other railway stations in the city’s vicinity. There is a long felt need for a Nagpur metro rail service on the lines of Delhi metro, as it is expected that Nagpur is set to grow exponentially in the coming years. Recently Laursen and Toubro (LandT) was appointed to prepare a report on transport needs of Nagpur Metropoliton Area by 2020. In its report, LandT has recommended an elevated Monorail system and an MMTS (Multimodel Mass Transit System) for Nagpur. It also suggested minimum of 1500 city buses and BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) on selected routes.
Nagpur railway station was built in 1867 and is located in center of Nagpur. It is located on foot of Sitabuldi hill which has the historic fort on it. It is the headquarters of Nagpur division of central and south-eastern Indian railway lines. Another nearby station Ajni serves mostly as cargo terminal. British India had opened the Bombay–Bhusawal–Nagpur line in 1867 to link the cotton growing Vidarbha region with port city of Bombay. Later this line was extended to Howrah station on east .
The main building is made up of pink sandstone just like other colonial structures of Reserve Bank of India, Vidhan Bhavan, Nagpur. The building is declared as heritage site. Ministry of Indian railways has recently selected Nagpur Railway Station for development and a one time package of INR 1 billion has been allocated for its up gradation of existing station. A new flyover has been built in front of station to reduce traffic congestion. Another world class station is coming up at MIHAN to serve Nagpur. Recently closed circuit camera vigilance has been put on Nagpur station.
Futala Lake is one of the lakes in Nagpur in the Indian state of Maharashtra.The lake is spread over 60 acres. Built by Bhosle kings of Nagpur, the lake is known for its coloured fountains. In the evenings the place is illuminated with halogen lights and Tanga (carriage) ride. The lake is surrounded on three sides by forest and a landscaped Chowpatty on one side.
In western area of Nagpur, ancient Futala Lake exists for 200 years. In absence of maintenance, the use of this prehistoric lake was limited to cattle washing only. It was therefore decided in the year 2003 to beautify this lake from NIT fund with equal aid from State Government.
The work was decided to be done in two stage, desilting was done on large scale along with removal of Lotus plants and other waste from lake. The work included repairing of Eastern side guard wall of lake, construction of path way with granite stone paving, widening of 18 m wide road under I.R.D.P., road side guard wall and landscaping berms, parking and garden bays on other side of road, fixing decorative lamp, benches, attractive dust bins etc. For watering of plants and landscaping, sprinkler system was provided. For sufficient lighting purpose, four high masts were fixed in the vicinity of lake. Two colored fountains of 15 feet and one white and fountain of 100 feet, as such total three floating fountains were set up in lake . The work of Immersion Ghat with three ramps on South side and guard wall of lake with sand beach on North side was also done in the same phase.
In the second phase of beautification, road berms were cleaned and interlocking paving blocks were fixed on road Hanuman Temple to Futala Lake and surrounding triangular land in front of Temple. About 1300m road was paved under this to solve the grave parking problem raised due to famous Hanuman temple and beautification done.
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT Nagpur)
Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur (VRCE), is a public engineering and research institution in India. It is located in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in central India. It was established in June 1960 by the Government of India and later named in honor of engineer, planner and statesman, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. VNIT Nagpur is centrally-funded and belongs to the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) system. In 2007, the institute was conferred the status of Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament of India. The institute awards bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in engineering, technology and architecture.
The institute has academic collaboration with the many universities in India and abroad. During the year 2015 alone, VNIT Nagpur signed 7 MoUs with International Universities and 21 MoUs with National Institutions, Laboratories and Industries.These collaborative programmes include student and faculty exchange, internships for students and joint research activities among others.

Zero Mile Stone is a monument locating the geographical centre of colonial India in the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra. The Zero Mile Stone was erected by the British who used this point to measure all the distances. The Zero Mile Stone consists of four horses and a pillar made up of sandstone. In 2008, The Times of India undertook to maintain the monument for the next 5 years.
It is located on the south east of Vidhan Bhavan, Nagpur.
The British rulers considered Nagpur to be the centre of India and hence identified this point and constructed the Zero Mile Stone. Earlier India was divided into provinces and Nagpur was the capital of CP & Berar Province. Later when states were created, Nagpur was incorporated into Maharashtra, and as Nagpur had been the capital of CP & Berar, even though it was geographically shifted to Maharashtra, the status of second capital was granted to Nagpur.it is also known as capital of Vidarbha.
The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University was established as Nagpur university on 4 August 1923 with six affiliated colleges and 927 students. During 1947, the number of students increased to about 9000 accompanied by the improvement and diversification of curricula and expansion in the range of subjects. The expansion of library and sports facilities occurred during these years for the intellectual and physical well being of the students. It was in 1958 that some new Departments in Arts and Social Science faculties were opened; the major expansion, however, came in 1963 when several science and other teaching Departments were started. The departments were shifted to spacious buildings in the main campus in 1972-73.
In later years, several career oriented courses have been started viz., Business Management, Fine Arts, Mass Communication, Library Science, Physical Education, etc. In May 1983, the university was divided to form Amravati University. In September 2011 the university was again divided to part way for the Gondwana University. In 2005, the university was renamed to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University after Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, a renowned spiritual person from Vidarbha.
The University comprises the Faculties of Arts & Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Home Science, Medicine, Commerce, Education, Engineering & Technology, Law, and Ayurveda consisting of 39 Postgraduate teaching departments (PGTD) and three constituent colleges/institutions (Law college, College of Education, Laxminarayan Institute of Technology). The department and conducted college/institution buildings are spread over seven campuses with an overall area of 327 acres. There are 842 colleges affiliated to the university in the districts of Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara and Gondia in the state of Maharashtra.
The research programs in almost all thirty-nine Departments and three conducted Colleges are propelled through M. Phil., Ph.D. and Post-Doc. It is ranked 11th by Careers360 ranking of top government Pharmacy colleges in India 2017.
Nagpur is a city rich with many ancient and famous temples, some dating upto 300 years. These temples attract a large number of devotees who gather to offer a prayer especially on festivals. One name that comes rushing to one’s mind when talking about Nagpur is “Ganesh Mandir Tekdi“. Located at station road, this temple is a haven for devotees of Lord Ganesh. It is named “Ganesh Tekdi” because of its location, up a hill and tekdi means hill in Marathi.
History:
Ganesh Tekdi Mandir is believe to be about 250 years old. The temple started out with being an ordinary tin shed with the idol. In the 1970s, the army took possession of this structure and improved it but the main change came in 1978. The construction of the temple was taken up as a big project and devotees donated generously to help the process. The present-day structure got shape in 1984.It was accomplished by the late Shri Ganpatrao Joshi and a few other devotees. As time passed by, it was realised that the temple premises could not accommodate the large number of devotees. The trustees of the temple appealed to the Defence Ministry which helped them acquire 20,000 sq. ft. more of the land.
The idol of the temple, which is about four feet tall is believed to be swayambhu (self-existent). It is said that originally the idol was very small in shape, but gradually it grew bigger and bigger, increasing in size. The idol is is beautifully adorned with several golden and silver ornaments at the forehead. Among the ornaments, there is a particular piece namely Mukut (crown) which is exhibited only on the occasion of Chaturthi and Ekadashi.
Numerous devotees visited the temple every day, especially on festive occasions and religious ceremonies. Every year in the Paush month on the Sankashti Chaturthi day a grand yatra called as Tekdi Ganapati Yatra is held. The specialty of the temple is the Aarti ceremony, which is performed four times daily (6.30 am, 12.30 pm, 7.pm, 11.30 pm) and Modaka is distributed after the Aartis as a divine gift. Tekdi Ganapati Temple, managed by the temple trustees, is opens from 6.00 am.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ hometown Nagpur appears to have taken a big leap forward towards the goal of becoming an investment hub. During the recently-concluded Make in India Week, the city attracted commitments in all major sectors — electronics, textile, defence, infrastructure, agro-industries etc.
The orange city, which has been reeling in the shadow of an agrarian crisis with Vidarbha registering the highest number of farmer suicides, is being promoted by the Centre and the state to draw greater investments both global and domestic.
At the Make in India Week-2016, Nagpur emerged as one of the most sought-after destinations after Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Auranbagad, with private players keen on industrial growth in diverse sectors. Under the state government’s Make in Maharashtra drive, Nagpur will be developed an electronics hub.
Fadnavis said, “The Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Highway project will be a game-changer as it will not only uplift the farmers in Vidarbha but also bring economic prosperity through development in North Maharashtra and Marathwada.” The Rs 30,000-crore project will make the road travel between Nagpur and Mumbai possible in eight hours. Industry representatives, when spoken to, said they found Nagpur well connected, though it required rapid growth in infrastructure and hospitality.
With an impetus on the airport infrastructure sector, the Nagpur airport has been listed for further expansion into an international airport, apart from Mumbai and Pune. The chief minister said, “The land for second Pune airport will be approved in a few months. The Navi Mumbai airport will be completed in 2019.”
At present, the total traffic handled by three international and seven domestic airports works to 35 million people, of which the maximum load is in on Mumbai and Pune (31 million). There are plans to begin short-distance flights on Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Nanded and other routes with private partnership.
In the last six decades, the maximum industrial development in Maharashtra was confined to the golden corridor of Mumbai-Pune-Nashik. Auranbagad has emerged in the last decade. Attempts to develop Nagpur have not made much headway despite Butibori being an industrial hub. At the successive meetings to discuss Make in India and Make in Maharashtra drives, the state government has told the investors to explore new avenues to ensure regional development. Unlike in Mumbai, Pune, land is not an issue in Nagpur, which is rich in coal and minerals.
Work on the Metro Rail project is on in full swing in Nagpur. It will have two corridors, 38.2 km in length, and will provide jobs to 1,700 people. While Mumbai already made its Metro operational, the Pune project is under way. Nagpur is also a part of the auto hub along with Mumbai, Nashik, Pune and Aurangabad.
Fadnavis said he believed greater investments would be attracted by narrowing down the distances. Barely a two hours’ drive from Nagpur is Amravati city, which is evolving as the country’s largest textile hub. The Centre and the state have announced a slew of concessions to promote the textile sector not only in Amravati but across others hubs. It includes 5-7 per cent subsidy for all new projects and 10 per cent capital subsidy for any new project in Vidarbha and Marathwada. The Centre will grant 40 per cent of the project cost or a maximum of Rs 40 crore for new projects.
The Centre, which has opened up foreign investment in defence manufacturing, has also identified Nagpur among the defence hubs along with Mumbai, Nashik, Pune and Aurangabad. The list of players ready to invest in defence hubs include Wipro, HAL, Tata, Kirloskar, Bharat Forge, L&T and Centum Electronics.
