Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Tuesday

The dabbawalas of Mumbai have suspended their services for today. The dabbawalas take trains to reach their destinations, but due to disruption of rail services following heavy rains in the financial hub, the delivery of over two lakh tiffins to office-goers won’t be possible, said Subhash Talekar, Mumbai Dabbawala Association spokesperson.

Flight operations at the Mumbai airport remain affected for the second day today, As many as 56 flights have been diverted to different airports till this morning as the main runway continues to be out of use due to the SpiceJet aircraft stuck there, an airport official said.

The SpiceJet aircraft is still stuck on the runway and efforts are on to tow it away to a bay, the official said. Mumbai airport, the country’s second busiest airport, handles 930 flights per day with an average of 48 movements per hour.

Tuesday’s rain delayed services on the heavily used local train network, a rail official said, while road traffic was also disrupted by flooding. Commuters stuck at various stations since last night due to disruption of suburban train services were seen making their way home this morning as the situation improved overnight. Five Western Railway trains have been cancelled due to heavy rain; most running at restricted speed. Heavy waterlogging was reported on tracks between Vasai and Virar.

Apple iOS 11 now out for iPhones iPads: news and features

Apple iOS 11 now out for iPhones iPads

Apple iOS 11 now out for iPhones iPads

Apple iOS 11 now out for iPhones iPads, iPod Touch users. Apple iOS 11 release started at 10.00 AM Pacific Time yesterday evening, which was around 10.30 PM IST for users in India. Here’s a quick look at the top features of iOS 11, what time the new software will release, and the full list of compatible devices.

Even if you’re not upgrading to iPhone X or iPhone 8, your device will feel as good as new thanks to several user interface changes and fresh features. iOS 11 launched today (Tuesday, September 19), which is exactly one week after the iPhone 8 and iPhone X launch event. It’s come out of beta after a four-month test phase.

Apple iOS 11 is now available for all users globally. In India, users with a compatible iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch should be able to download the new iOS 11 software directly on their devices. Users should get a notification in their device alerting them of the new update provided one is connected to the internet.

Just go to Settings>About>Software Update on your iOS device and check if the update has arrived. You will be required to download it on your iOS device and then install it. There’s also the option of installing this via iTunes software on your MacBook.

List of compatible iPhone, iPads

Apple iOS 11 is compatible with the following devices: iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, which is a given considering these have just been launched. It will also support these older iPhones: iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone SE, iPhone 5s. For Apple iPhone 4S, 5, 5C users, however, it is now time to give up these devices as Apple would no longer support their software.

For iPads, Apple iOS 11 will work with 12.9-inch iPad Pro (second generation), 12.9-inch iPad Pro (first generation), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad (fifth generation), iPad Air 2, iPad Air. The iPad Mini list includes iPad Mini 4, 3 and 2. iPod Touch (sixth generation) is also supported for those still holding onto these.

iOS 11 features exclusive to the new iPhones

Apple is combining emoji with animations, and it takes advantage of the iPhone X’s 3D face-scanning TrueDepth camera array. The result is Animoji, which tracks the muscles in your face to animate the emoji. All of your Messages texts will benefit (or suffer, depending on your view of expressive emoji).

Face ID and home-button-replacing gesture-swiping will also be an iPhone X-only feature. Face ID replaces Touch ID as a biometric sensor, and it’s going to take time for people to learn how iOS 11 replaces the home button on the new flagship Apple phone.

Portrait Lighting, also available on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, is an option Apple has added to its existing background-blurring Portrait Mode photos. It uses the dual-lens depth-sensing camera and machine learning to simulate a range of lighting effects: Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono, and Studio Light.

Apple iOS 11 now supports Hindi dictation as well in Siri. The camera’s Portrait mode in iPhone 7 Plus Portrait mode now supports optical image stabilization, HDR and True Tone flash. Apple also says photos and videos will now occupy less space with a new HEIF and HEVC image and video formats.

Apple Maps now have indoor maps for major airports and shopping centres,  and there’s a DND mode while driving. On the iPad, users will see a new dock to access their most recently used apps, favourite apps, and this can be resized. Also apps can be easily started in Slide Over and Split View from the Dock itself. There’s also multi-Touch to move multiple items at the same time and the ability to search handwritten text itself. The new Files app will let users browse, search and organise files and it will work with iCloud Drive and third party cloud file providers.

Maharashtra's first 'smart parking' to come up in Nagpur ?

Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is creating a smart parking bay at Central Bazar Road stretch from Hotel Tuli International to Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth Hostel Square. This may be the first smart parking with sensors and boom barriers for designated parking of four-wheelers..

It may be mentioned that several trees are planted along road sides to strengthen green cover. The Unity Infrastructure has started cement road construction while Larsen and Tubro is providing smart network on the road. Though pace of construction is painfully slow, the NMC has promised a much better facility, once the project is completed.

Presently, the road is buzzing with two-wheelers and four wheelers. The footpath is very wide and therefore, all the vehicles parked by the road side leaving less space for vehicular traffic and commuters.

NMC Smart Parking Solution
NMC can update all the available parking spaces in the city on NMCzoom application.
Citizens / societies can also upload their parking spaces in any area for parking in the central database.
Citizens looking for parking space can search for parking space in a particular area and can RENT it online on
NMCzoom application. ( Not Yet release )
This willl encourage everybody with spare parking space to upload the same on NMCzoom, thereby creating more parking inventory.

Do you know Maharashtra's first 'smart parking' to come up in Nagpur ?

Municipal Commissioner has suggested parking of four-wheelers on footpath without cutting any tree. This will provide more space to the commuters on Central Bazar Road, and safe parking of four-wheelers without creating obstruction to the smooth flow of traffic. The parking will be connected with boom barriers and smart sensors.

The 1.5 meter wide footpath will be marked after parking of four-wheelers to ensure space for pedestrians. The NMC is also planning a cycle track on the road stretch, Gupta added. He said, almost 87 parking bays will be created and 86 sensors will be installed on the road. This will be the first smart parking bay on pilot basis. During cement road construction, the road will be up by 10 inch and will align with the footpath. Therefore, it is easy to transform footpath as parking bay, he added.

South Korea shown interest investing in Samruddhi Corridor

South Korea shown interest investing in Samruddhi Corridor

Nagpur: In a first of sorts, South Korea has shown interest in investing in Samruddhi Corridor, some big-ticket infrastructure projects in India and the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway – a dream project of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis – is on top of the list.

Maharashtra has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean Land and Housing Corporation, an undertaking of the South Korean government that specialises in land development, town planning and creation of housing stock.

The CM will be visiting South Korea and Singapore from September 25. The government will be seeking a loan from a South Korean bank, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, for the Samruddhi Corridor. A special purpose vehicle will be created for the project,” said an official from the CMO.

According to sources, only seven to eight banks came forward to extend loans for this project during a meeting on Wednesday attended by the CM. The banks were ready to disburse a `7000 crore loan, but it was not sufficient. “Banks are not ready to lend that kind of money. So, the government presented a revenue model in the meeting,” the official added. After the local banks’ inability to disburse loan, it was decided to check out options from the South Korean bank.

The Korean government had initially expressed interest in building the expressway, but we do projects through competitive bidding. Then they were keen to build the nodes. We have prepared detailed notes and presentations in Korean, and we are likely to sign a deal that would bring investment for the expressway project as well as others,” a Maharashtra official said.

KLHC will assist the government to build 24 townships created along the proposed expressway, and may also take up the development of a couple of nodes by themselves. The project will cost Rs 12,000 crore.

Along with the Samruddhi Corridor, the government is also going to seek South Korea’s financial assistance to redevelop the Mhada government colony in Bandra and a newly proposed township in suburban Kalyan-Dombivali area, the official added. The government intends to develop the Nagpur and Pune airports and will be signing MoUs with Singapore’s Changi airport, one of the biggest in the world.

United states defence firms want control over technology in Make in India plan

US defence firms want control over technology in Make in India plan

United States defense firms offering to set up production lines in India to win deals worth billions of dollars want stronger assurances they won’t have to part with proprietary technology, according to a business lobby group’s letter to India’s defense minister.

These companies are also saying they shouldn’t be held liable for defects in products manufactured in collaboration with local partners under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India plan drive to build a military-industrial base.

United states defence firms want control over technology in Make in India plan

Lockheed Martin and Boeing are both bidding to supply combat jets to India’s military, which is running short of hundreds of aircraft as it retires Soviet-era MiG planes, and its own three-decade-long effort to produce a domestic jet is hobbled by delays.

Lockheed has offered to shift its F-16 production line to India from Fort Worth, Texas, and make it the sole factory worldwide if India orders at least 100 single-engine fighters.

The US firm has picked Tata Advanced Systems as its local partner under the defense ministry’s new Strategic Partnership model under which foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can hold up to a 49 percent stake in a joint venture with an Indian private firm which will hold the majority of shares.

The US-India Business Council (USIBC) wrote to India’s defense minister last month seeking a guarantee that US firms would retain control over sensitive technology – even as joint venture junior partners.

“Control of proprietary technologies is a major consideration for all companies exploring public and private defense partnerships,” the business lobby, which represents 400 firms, said in the Aug. 3 letter, reviewed by Reuters and previously unreported.

“To allow foreign OEMs to provide the most advanced technologies, the partnership arrangement between an Indian owned ‘strategic partner’ company and a foreign OEM needs to provide an opportunity for the foreign OEM to retain control over its proprietary technology,” it said, noting this wasn’t explicit in the policy document.

Technology transfer

Technology transfer is at the heart of Modi’s drive to build a domestic industrial base and cut a reliance on imports that has made India the world’s biggest arms importer in recent years.

Without full tech transfer in previous arms deals, India’s mainly state-run defence factories have largely been left to assemble knock-down kits even for tanks and aircraft produced under license from the foreign maker.

United states defence firms want control over technology in Make in India plan

Modi’s advisers have vowed to change that, insisting on transfer of technology so that critical military equipment are designed and manufactured in India.

Benjamin Schwartz, USIBC’s director for defense and aerospace, said the new Indian policy offered a roadmap for establishing partnerships between U.S. and Indian companies, but it raised some questions for the firms.

He said he was not in a position to name those companies concerned by the Indian policy, but there was a “general desire to see increased clarity” on several aspects, including the control of proprietary technologies.

Quality Issues

The USIBC also opposed a clause in the new rules that held foreign firms jointly responsible for the quality of the platforms provided to the military, saying legal liability is a significant factor in business decisions.

“We recommend the MoD (Ministry of Defence) affirm that foreign OEMs will not be liable for defects outside their company’s control,” the USIBC said.

Lockheed did not respond to a request for comment. Boeing, which is bidding for a separate contract to sell its F/A-18 Super Hornets for India’s aircraft carrier fleet, declined to comment on the USIBC letter, but the company’s India president, Pratyush Kumar, said there were concerns about Indian private firms’ lack of experience in the aerospace sector.

Only state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd had made planes under license, while some private players were starting from scratch, having never built even an aircraft component. Kumar said he could not find a single example worldwide of a private enterprise with limited experience building out a plane under transfer of technology.

“Look at Turkey, look at Japan, look at Brazil – look at multiple countries. In all cases there is a fine balancing act of co-opting the capabilities of both public and private enterprise,” he said.

India’s defense ministry offered no response to the concerns expressed by the trade lobbying group on the strategic partnership model, which will also apply to building submarines and helicopters as part of a $150 billion modernization drive.

But an official, referring to sensitive technology, said the government has made clear in the past that foreign firms can be allowed to increase their stake beyond 49 percent if the technology they bring in is state-of-the art.

“It can be done on a case-to-case basis,” the official said.

Mukesh Aghi, president of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, said that despite the starting problems, defense manufacturing looked set to be a breakthrough area in ties between India and the United States under Make in India plan.

“It’s the next big thing. There is strong support from the (U.S. President Donald) Trump administration to take this forward.”

Government may launch India’s own cryptocurrency ‘ Lakshmi ‘: reports

Indian government may launch India's own cryptocurrency Lakshmi

Mumbai: Indian government may launch India’s own cryptocurrency ‘ Lakshmi ‘- The Indian government is considering a proposal to introduce its cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoins, as per a Business Standard Report. As per undisclosed sources, the proposal was discussed by a committee of government officials, and the panel found the idea of setting up and running blockchain for financial services useful. They also added that the government might name its cryptocurrency ‘Lakshmi‘.

If the government does go ahead with the proposal, the cryptocurrency so introduced will fall in the domain of the Reserve Bank of India. Consequently, some acts such as the Currency Act might have to be amended.

While running a ledger-like blockchain cryptocurrency is required for settlement, one also needs to remember that both RBI and government officials have stated that they are not comfortable with Bitcoin.

China, Russia, and Estonia are said to be considering having their own cryptocurrencies.

A few days ago RBI Executive Director Sudarshan Sen had talked about the central bank’s discomfort with Bitcoin, which has recently come under intense global regulatory scrutiny.

He had also hinted at the need for India’s own cryptocurrency.

Blue Whale Game: What You Need to Know to Keep Your Child Safe. Deepti Sutaria

Blue Whale Game: What You Need to Know to Keep Your Child Safe

In the modem environment where technology has become a boon in terms of development, its wrongful use in the absence of alertness Is becoming a curse for the new generation. Mobile is definitely helpful in connecting the new generation with updated technology, but excessive liberty given to children on use of mobile, ignorant attitude of family, lack of supervision, loneliness, among others, are drawing children into dangerous games like ‘Blue Whale’. This dangerous game originating in Russia, has also been introduced in many countries including India. In this game of death, over 10 children have lost their lives in India. Country’s first female cyber crime expert and founder of Halt Cyber Violence Awareness Centre Advocate Deepti Sutaria shared her views on the challenges of Blue Whale game, its fatal consequences and the role of family, society and the government, in this special interview to Our Nagpur Team.

Question: What are the challenges of Blue Whale game?
Answer: The Blue Whale game has been created by a 21-year-old frustrated youth named Philipp Budeiken from Russia. This is not a sports app, but you connect yourself through a link in which 50 tasks are given to be performed one task per day. After completing the first task, the administrator of the that chat room gives the second task. As the tasks progress gradually, the youths are mentally conditioned and encouraged to commit suicide. This entire game takes control of the children passing through frustration, and pushes them into the jaws of death. The disadvantages of this game were first discovered by Russian woman journalist Galina who named it ‘Death Group’. Lack of communication in the family loneliness, pressure of education or family bitterness takes children closer to the game. This is a game of frustration and retribution.

Q: What are the signs of children facing the challenge of Blue Whale?

A: The current education system has put more burden on the children. They are often wider the pressure of studies. There is also pressure on them from the family to study. The emotional needs of children are not considered as important. Facing neglect from all around them including parents, children get frustrated and get trapped into retribution games like Blue Whale. In this trap, there are many contradictory changes in the behavior of children. The laughing baby looks silent and enjoys loneliness. There is unnecessary irritability in it. Many times aggression is also seen. This is the time when the family should understand the child’s mental state and start giving him or her Importance in order to bring him or her back on the track.

Q: What steps have been taken to protect children from this game?

A: In this context, I suggested to the Union women and child welfare minister Maneka Gandhi to ban Blue Whale game. On August 31, 2017, the letter was issued in this regard. Child helpline number 1098 has also been established. CBSE has also issued a letter to the schools to conduct workshops for children. Our centre is also organizing a workshop for parents with the India Wide Parents Association’s chief Anubha Sahay.

Q: How to educate school children and busy parents in this regard?

A: A workshop should be organised jointly by the CBSE or the schools for children, parents and teachers. In this workshop participants should be warned about the dangers of Blue Whale game and they should be mentally prepared to deal with it. This is a link and clickbait. It is also important to have a cyber psychologist with a cyber expert in the workshop. Our centre is linked to  Dr. John Suller, London’s cyber  psychologist, and his  help also be taken.

Q: Is there a gap between children and parents?

A: Yes, there definitely is a gap between children and parents in this hectic  world. We can see this gap as the absence of communication and the consequent lack of emotional understanding. when children see their parents are busy in other world, they choose their own path, creating problems for them. selves as well as the family to bridge this gap, dialogue based on mutual trust is very important.

Q: Are parents also responsible for the death of children?

A: In fact, in case of Blue Whale related deaths, no one can be held solely responsible. The blame can  not be put on the child or Parent. Things become such that the children go to the point of ending lives.
Yes, as a part of alertness, parents should keep an eye on changes in the behavior of their children. In  case of death of a child named Manpreet in  Mumbai, the forensic  report has not yet been  received even after so long a time. Children in this game make a mark on their hands  and legs. The true picture  will emerge only if such things find a mention in the report.

Q: What Is the misuse of technology?

A: Such lethal game are only part of the misuse of technology. The freedom given to children on use of technology is producing negative results. In fact, we have been incomplete in copying the West We have neither remained Indian nor fully adopted western culture. This incomplete comprehension is causing difficulties for us.

Q: What steps has the current government taken to check the adverse effects of technology?

A: The government has not taken any stern steps other than High court the adverse effects of technology After surfacing of Blue Whale deaths, notices were issued by the Bombay High Court to Facebook, Google, etc. As for the government, it has only given assurance so far.

Q: What is your opinion In these cases?

A:  I believe that the situation of frustration leads to children playing like a blue whale. To avoid these dangers, it is important that families maintain mutual communication and support each other emotionally. The biggest responsibility Iles on women. They should give the family more time.

Q: Which are the laws to deal with Information Technology cases?

A: The laws that the government has made to deal with the dangers of Information Technology are extremely inadequate. There are only 90 sections in the IT Act. Many cases are far from its reach. There are no laws to deal with the computer related and online cases. There should be cyber courts to deal with cybercrime cases.

Q: If technology is being misused, what is future of children born in this era?

A: Failure to stop misuse of technology will lead children in the wrong direction. Apart from deadly games like Blue Whale, hacking and money laundering are also dangerous aspects of technology. If this continues, the future of children is not secure. Children can become Steve Jobs and Bill Gates if technology is used in a positive manner. It is the joint responsibility of the family, society and the government society and the government to set the things right.

Digital payment bound to pick up with new technology: Arun Jaitley

Digital payment bound to pick up with new technology

Digital payment bound to pick up with new technology

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Monday expressed hope that digital payment is going to pick up momentum with more advanced technology coming into the market.

A lot of people went in for digitisation in terms of mode of payment more out of compulsion rather than finding it a more convenient method to transact, but that compulsion created a habit for many, he said after the launch of a mobile app for digital payments developed by Google for India.

“We reached a peak figure (after the demonetisation), then it marginally slipped and is now bound to pick up again,” he said. Built on the government-supported Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Tez allows users, free of charge, to make small or big payments straight from their bank accounts, Google said.

The app was built for India, working on the vast majority of the country’s smartphones, and is available in English and seven Indian languages (Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu). Tez, a Hindi word which means fast, works in partnership with four Banks — Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India (SBI) to facilitate the processing of payments across over 50 UPI-enabled banks.

The app allows users to make the payments through 3 modes. One is the through UPI ID, which is part of the government of India UPI interface. If you know the iD of a receiver you can simply input that and make the payment. The second way to pay is through a QR code, which a user will be able to scan and make the relevant payment. This will probably work similar to how the Paytm QR code scanning payment works. Finally, there is option to pay by using the phone number. This again probably works similar to how the Paytm phone number payment works.

In addition to the three modes, Google has built another mode, which is especial to Tez. This is called “cash” mode and it uses proximity. The way Google describes it, the Cash mode will allow two users to exchange money if they have the phones in close proximity. Just tap the “Cash” button in the Tez app and then follow the instructions. The phone uses proximity sensor and microphone to enable payment and it, in a way, works similar to how users share Bluetooth files.

While for the end-users, the app is called Tez, Google has also built a special version for businesses. This is called Tez for Business.

“Now, the time has come with application as simple as this that what started as compulsion becomes a matter of convenience and eventually a matter of spending habit as far as Indian people are concerned,” the finance minister noted. The app is available now for download on Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iOS).

PM Narendra Modi Birthday 67th birthday, His government is celebrating the day as “Seva Divas”

PM Narendra Modi Birthday 67th birthday

17 Sept is India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 67th birthday. His government is celebrating the day as “Seva Divas”. Celebrities, brand ambassadors, and dignitaries have been roped in to spread the message of “swachh bharat” to contribute for the construction of toilets and the upkeep of public places. Various Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and ministers will attend medical camps, blood donation events and also participate in cleanliness drives 17sept.

Just like every year on his birthday, PM Modi met his mother Heeraben Modi at her home in Gandhinagar this morning and sought her blessings.

Also pouring in their wishes for the prime minister are various politicians, sportstars and celebrities who have taken to Twitter to wish PM Modi a happy birthday. #HappyBirthdayPM is trending on Twitter 17 Sept.

On his birthday, besides the usual photo-op with his mother, Modi decided to dedicate the Sardar Sarovar Dam as his gift to the nation. It is another matter that this gift has brought immense misery to many ordinary citizens living in the Narmada Valley, who are being evacuated without being rehabilitated.

After the inauguration at the dam site at Kevadia, PM Modi will go to Sadhu Bet, an island in the Narmada river where a 182-metre tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, billed as a ‘Statue of Unity’, and a memorial complex dedicated to the country’s first home minister are coming up.

Modi’s centralised style of leadership and his commitment to the ideals of “Hindu Rashtra” have reduced the scope of dissent and deliberation in the country. Indian democracy is using coercive powers to suppress any dissent at the grass-roots level under the pretext of national security. Narendra Modi has carefully cultivated a “strong man” image by using the rhetoric of democracy and displaying closeness to the masses.

The world is currently experiencing a rise in the number of demagogues. Narendra Modi adds to the global list of so-called strong men: Vladimir Putin of Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Turkey, Viktor Orbán in Hungary, Jarosław Kaczyński in Poland, Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines, Prayut Chan-o-Cha in Thailand and Donald Trump in the US.

They are charming, charismatic and cunning and, at the same time, extremely self-absorbed and possess a huge lust for power. They play with people’s fears, create scapegoats and offer easy solutions.

India vs Australia 1st ODI

India vs Australia 1st ODI

India vs Australia 1st ODI, Hardik Pandya was the undisputed star of India’s 26-run win over Australia in the first ODI in Chennai on Sunday and interestingly, Pandya took two key wickets in addition to his 83 which helped India reach 281/7. His 118-run stand with MS Dhoni, who slammed his 66th fifty set the basis for India’s revival after Nathan Coulter-Nile picked up three wickets. However, rain interrupted the Australian chase by two hours as the match was reduced to 21 overs. However, Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 3/30 to dent the Australians. Catch highlights of India vs Australia, 1st ODI, Chennai.

Hardik Pandya, Man of the Match: It was a good day for me. It feels pretty good. I don’t think anything has changed. I’m the same Hardik. I knew what he was going to bowl. I targetted one over and eventually it helped.

Virat Kohli, India captain: This is a very pleasing win. MS and Hardik and Kedar first batted well. Today was example, Sri Lanka was an example of how good they are (spinners). The more they can come through such situations, they will add more balance to the team, Its a matter of time giving players the confidence. He believes in himself. Hardik was the game-changer.

Steve Smith: MS (Dhoni) and Hardik (Pandya) played really well. We couldn’t capitualize with the start. The new ball was stopping a bit and some were skidding on. We lost too many wickets in the middle.

What is Anti Profiteering under GST ?

What is Anti Profiteering under GST

Anti Profiteering under GST: We are in the final round of GST and the four goods and services tax (GST) supplementary bills finally got the green signal on Wednesday. Under the current regime, input tax credit is available only on inputs but in present GST the concept of input credit tax is broadened
In the present taxation regime the input VAT paid on purchase of goods is available as credit only on making a taxable sale whereas any tax paid on business overheads is not allowed as credit.

But with the GST which is a destination based tax and one which abolishes the cascading effects in the present tax structure there is also an increased credit opportunities to be availed thereby providing improved profit levels at every stage of supply chain.

To put a check on such improved profit levels we need to pass on the benefit of input credit or tax reduction to the end consumer by way of a commensurate reduction in prices also called Anti- profiteering clause.

What Anti Profiteering under GST ?What is Anti Profiteering under GST?

The anti-profiteering clause is one of the major aspect which was discussed in the seven hour long debate on Wednesday 18th of may by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. With this move the government has also assured protection for the consumers from inflation after GST implementation.
The implementation of GST has often led to some inflationary pressures in countries where this tax is already in place so to put a check on such inflationary pressure Anti profiteering clause would definitely be helpful.

Check Out : Best GST Billing Software for startups With Cost Effective Price.

The government will calculate the anti profiteering fact by asking companies for pre- and post-GST cost sheet of each product and calculate the pre-GST tax rate and post-GST tax rate for each and every item. This will help them to understand the exact level of tax benefit which a supplier should get.
Though there is still or no clarity on the fact how will they calculate the profit of an organization made and how minutely will they be monitoring businesses to understand whether benefits have been passed on to consumers in India.

But while the objective may sound simple, implementing an anti-profiteering clause is fraught with grave risks.
With all the tax structure in place and items given their respective slab which they fall in, the biggest challenge is that of Anti Profiteering compliance and Which authority will track all these aspects and conclude whether the prices should be passed on or not.

Nagpur shortlisted for test run of SkyTran pod cars among with two other cities.

Nagpur: Nagpur, Gurugram and Varanasi, have been shortlisted to test the ambitious rapid transport systems SkyTran pod cars —driverless vehicles that run along a predetermined course.

US-based skyTran Inc., which is developing pod car systems for urban transport, is ready to build a one-kilometre pilot track in India at its own cost as required by a government panel, a company executive said.

Varanasi is the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while Nagpur is that of transport minister Nitin Gadkari. The three cities may see the first rapid transport systems using pod cars being built by US space agency Nasa’s SkyTran and UK’s Ultra Global PRT, initially over a 1km test stretch each.

WHAT IS PODCARS ? HOW THEY WORKS ?

“The expert panel formed to lay down safety standards for pod taxis in the country has shortlisted the two cities in addition to Gurugram for the companies to build a prototype for a 1km stretch to showcase their technology. Two of these three cities will finally showcase the prototypes from the respective firms,” said a senior government official requesting anonymity.

Nagpur shortlisted for test run of SkyTran pod cars among with two other cities.

New Zealand’s Metrino Personal Rapid Transit along with Ultra Global PRT and SkyTran were among the three companies that had bid for transport minister Nitin Gadkari’s pod taxi project in India last year. All the three companies that won approval from the government to build a pilot stretch are to showcase their technology to implement the projects by forming joint ventures with Indian companies.

“The panel was asked to shortlist three sites. Since the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which is responsible for implementing the project, had already invited tenders for Gurugram, they were to choose two more. They chose Varanasi and Nagpur. The prototypes will be built on only two sites as one of the three contenders has backed out,” added the official cited above.

Transport expert and former transport adviser at NITI Aayog Manoj Singh says, “Varanasi is a good choice. It’s a congested city and overhead pod taxis can be experimented with to see how this mobility solution works. Besides, being a heritage city, pod taxi can be a tourist attraction if managed and planned well.”

“This is one of the multiple solutions being explored. Apart from being a viable solution from the cost-per-passenger-km point of view, there are certain advantages to it such as the speed at which it can be constructed as compared to a metro rail system,” said Sanjay Garg, partner and leader, capital projects, at PwC.

In the past six months, India has emerged as a hot destination for several transport technology giants, including Hyperloop and Hyperloop I who are looking to sell rapid transit systems.

skyTran – What Is Pod Cars ? How it works and what is benefits ?

What Is Pod Cars ?

High Capacity  –

skyTran can replace many other systems
What Is Pod Cars? skyTran’s computer-controlled, 2-person vehicles can accommodate much of the world’s commuting population within a smaller footprint and for less than other mass transit systems. Because skyTran is built as an expandable grid, it will never be filled to capacity. As the demand grows, more track can be installed and additional vehicles can be added to the network. The robust state-of the-art skyTran system can easily grow as the needs of the area grow, exponentially and immediately.

The sophisticated skyTran computer network paces vehicles at optimum spacing and speeds to handle a significant number of commuters in a safe and efficient manner. The skyTran system recognizes you, responds to where you would like to go, and gets you there in the fastest time possible. skyTran truly is the Smart Transportation for Smart Cities.

skyTran FAST

Riders are transported very rapidly with skyTran.
The stream of skyTran vehicles never stops moving as traffic jams are unheard of on the skyTran network. The computer-controlled system provides optimal spacing of the skyTran vehicles. The fastest routes are identified and all vehicles are sent along at a very quick pace. Vehicles enter and exit the skyTran stream seamlessly with zero interruption to the flow. The stations are designed to load passengers rapidly and easily with faster boarders circumventing those riders who wish to take a bit more time exiting and entering their vehicles.
You get on and you get off with no stops in between. Because your vehicle enters and exits a continuously flowing stream of other skyTran pods, you never have to stop for others who wish to embark or disembark from the steam. As you head directly to your destination, there are no in-between stops with skyTran.

FLEXIBLE

skyTran accommodates a wide range of needs.
The skyTran vehicles are cost-effective for both a single occupancy (which accounts for 75% of US commuters), or for those wishing to travel with a partner. For larger groups desiring to commute to their destination together, multiple skyTran vehicles can zip along in a computer-linked caravan, meaning the entire family of vehicles is never separated. The parents can ride in comfort in the lead vehicle relaxing to music and a panoramic view while the kids are trailing behind in a separate vehicle playing video games. Similarly, shoppers with bulky purchases can order a small freight car to trail their private vehicle home from the shopping center.
The small and unobtrusive skyTran stations can be located wherever they are needed most. They can be placed almost anywhere with minimal interruption to the existing environment or neighborhood. The streamlined platforms can be installed overhead, on the surface, or underground. skyTran stations can even be placed inside buildings.

skyTran - What Is Pod Cars ?
skyTran – Virtual Station.

LOW COST

skyTran is an economical mass transit system.
Legacy mass transportation systems (such as trains and light rail) require massive infrastructures, high energy demands, and costly, complex vehicles. These cumbersome systems cost hundreds of times more than skyTran to build, maintain, and operate. Even freeways are dozens of times more expensive per mile to construct than the simple skyTran tracks which can be installed alongside existing roadways and walkways with minimal interruption to communities, businesses, and property. skyTran’s modular “snap-together” rails and supports are off-the-shelf components that can be put up quickly and easily. The vehicles are lightweight, streamlined, and inexpensive to mass-produce.
Because of the low cost of fabrication, installation, and maintenance, skyTran can be capitalized faster than any other legacy transportation system. The low cost and fast payback makes skyTran the number one choice on any balance sheet. States, counties, and cities can all benefit financially from this low-cost system.

Check Out : Nagpur shortlisted for test run of SkyTran pod cars among with two other cities.

SAFE

There is no safer mass transit system than skyTran.
When commuters congregate in large numbers they are vulnerable to catastrophic attacks and events. Terrorists do maximum damage when they can attack targets with multiple riders—such as buses, trains, and subways. A two-person, secure skyTran vehicle only lets people board that the computerized system recognizes. Unauthorized people would be turned away. However, in the unthinkable event that a terrorist made it onto the system, he/she could only do harm to themselves in their vehicle. By the same token, natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornadoes, and fires have less of a chance of harming riders that are not bunched together. In the event of an emergency, the vehicles have rapid stopping and avoidance capability built in. If power is interrupted to the network, each vehicle has enough on-board energy to safely and automatically head to the nearest station for disembarking.

Repair of the skyTran system is faster and cheaper than any other mode of mass transportation. Damaged portions of track are relatively easy to install quickly and cheaply. Because the system does not require high tolerances, a team of workers can drive up, bolt together new components, and have the system up-and-running very quickly.

LOW IMPACT

skyTran is small, simple, and clean.
Unlike the eyesore of legacy rail systems with their massive steel and concrete frameworks, or freeways with their gigantic concrete footprints, skyTran uses small, lightweight poles and narrow, low-profile guideways that can be installed alongside sidewalks, over local shops, and even go into and out of buildings. The skyTran network of aluminum components is lightweight, simple, and comparatively easy to manufacture. Because of its small footprint, skyTran avoids the right-of-way problems that are inherent in other mass transit systems, which need large areas, costly land purchases, and complex zoning approvals to accommodate their infrastructure.

Another bonus of skyTran is that it can bury existing, unsightly power and communication lines with its track to clean up neighborhood eyesores. An installed skyTran system can actually make the area look even better than before.

GREEN

skyTran is powered by clean, renewable energy.
skyTran uses state-of-the-art maglev propulsion, the most energy-efficient way to travel by mass-transit. The kinetic energy-driven skyTran system emits virtually no pollution and it doesn’t need much energy to operate. The power used in two hair dryers can fly you at over 62 mph (100 kph) with skyTran. The legacy of polluting combustible engines can be reduced significantly by installing a clean and green skyTran system.

The minimal power that is needed to operate the skyTran maglev vehicles can be obtained almost entirely from clean energy such as solar power. The poles, tracks, and even the vehicles provide an ideal platform to hold solar panels.

Do not sledge Virat Kohli, Jason Gillespie warns Australia ahead of ODI series

India vs Australia ODI series

Just three days to go before the highly anticipated India vs Australia ODI series begins in Chennai and as far as giving a highly valuable advice to the visitors is concerned, former Aussie speedster has warned his countrymen against sledging Virat Kohli.

The Indian skipper, known for his aggressive attitude on field, has had many tussles with the Kangaroos in the past, quite a few of which have ended in the Indian star’s favour (especially at home).

More significantly, the former Australia pacer also warned Steve Smith’s men to leave Kohli alone and not get into verbal battles with arguably the best limited-overs batsman in modern cricket.

Gillespie, one of Australia’s pack during their heydays, is now the coach of Papua New Guinea and feels the Aussies would do well not rile up Kohli, who thrives in pressure situations.

Kohli is an amazing player. Once the field spreads, he can bat safely. I don’t think Australia need to get into a verbal battle or get into staring competitions with Kohli,” Gillespie told the Times of India. “The best way to put him under pressure is through disciplined bowling. I would like to see the Aussie quicks bowl bouncers throat-high to get him on the back foot, make him thinking about it.

“I would like to see the Aussie quicks bowl bouncers throat-high to get him on the back foot, make him thinking about it. The follow-up ball remains the key. Make him come forward inviting the drive. If there is movement off the wicket or in the air, then the edge comes into play. Maybe they can bowl on the stumps with two catchers on the on-side. It’s about getting him out of his comfort zone,” said Gillespie.

However, the Indian captain is in his elements again and is currently the leading run-scorer in ODIs this year.

Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate world’s second biggest dam on September 17

Sardar Sarovar Dam World’s second biggest dam

Fifty-six years after the foundation stone for the Sardar Sarovar Dam was laid by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in Narmada district’s Kevadia, the dam, one of India’s biggest, will be finally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, which is also his birthday, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said.

The Narmada Control Authority had ordered the gates of the Sardar Sarovar Project be shut on June 16. The gates of the dam were closed the following day.

After closure of the gates the height of the dam was increased to 138 metres, with storage capacity raised to 4.73 million cubic metres (MCM) from the existing 1.27 million cubic metres. Earlier, the height of the dam was 121.92 metres.

World's second biggest dam

He also said that with the inauguration of the project, over 18 lakh hectares of land in the state would be benefitted with irrigation as Narmada water will flow to over 9,000 villages of Gujarat through a canal network.

Each gate weighs over 450 tonnes and it takes one hour to close them, the official said.

Explaining the characteristics of the Sardar Sarovar project, the official said that it is the biggest dam in terms of volume of concrete used in it.

World's second biggest dam

“It is the second biggest dam in the world after the Grand Coulee Dam in the United States,” he said.

The official said the 1.2-km-long dam which is 163 metres deep has till date produced 4,141 crore units of electricity from its two power houses — river bed powerhouse and canal head powerhouse — with an installed capacity of 1,200 MW and 250 MW, respectively.

“The dam has earned over Rs. 16,000 crore — more than double the cost of its construction,” he said.

According to the SSP official, the power generated from the dam would be shared among three states — Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Fifty-seven percent of the electricity produced from the dam goes to Maharashtra, while Madhya Pradesh gets 27 per cent and 16 per cent goes to Gujarat.

According to the SSP officials, it will irrigate 2,46,000 hectares of land in the strategically important desert districts of Barmer and Jalore in Rajasthan, and 37,500 hectares in the tribal hilly tract of Maharashtra. A special allocation of 0.86 million cubic feet (MAF) of water has been made to provide drinking water to 131 urban centres and 9,633 villages, which is 53 per cent of the total 18,144 villages of Gujarat.

Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train next on agenda for Samruddhi Corridor

Nagpur: The Maharashtra government is likely to push for a Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train service to create an exclusive high-speed corridor for Maharashtra. The state government will discuss the project with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JAICA). The government is keen that JAICA provides the funds for the Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train on the same term and conditions as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad project.

Highly placed sources in the government said Maharashtra would also explore projects that would provide greater advantage to the state. “The Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train can come along the 706-km Samruddhi Corridor, which would give boost to economic activities and agriculture in Maharashtra,” said an official.

Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train next on agenda for Samruddhi Corridor
Samruddhi Corridor: The ambitious, Rs 46,000 crore Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Corridor is expected to tackle migration from rural to urban areas within Maharashtra. Of the total migration in Maharashtra, almost 50 per cent of the people flow from rural to urban cities with Mumbai as epicentre. The project report states, “The developmental model adopted in 24 townships along the 710 km eight lane stretch across ten districts of Maharashtra will help in drastically reducing migration.”
The document details the major impetus on agro-based industries in 24 townships (nodes) planned according to geographical and local requirements, which would yield employment opportunities in rural Maharashtra.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has described the project as a game changer which would take Maharashtra 20 years ahead of other states. Fadnavis believes the state with 45 to 50 per cent urbanisation has to cope with growing burden on infrastructure and basic amenities.

Donald Trump identifies India among major drug producing or transit countries

Donald Trump identifies India among major drug producing

US President Donald Trump has identified India along with 21 other countries as among the major illicit drug producing or transit nations. In addition to India, other south Asian countries identified as major drug transit or major illicit drug producing countries are Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Myanmar from India’s neighbourhood in the list and Other countries are The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

“A country’s presence on the foregoing list is not necessarily a reflection of its government’s counter narcotics efforts or level of cooperation with the US,” Trump said.

The reason major drug transit or illicit drug producing countries are placed on the list is the combination of geographic, commercial, and economic factors that allow drugs to transit or be produced, even if a government has carried out the most assiduous narcotics control law enforcement measures, he said.

Simultaneously, Trump designated Bolivia and Venezuela as countries that have failed demonstrably during the previous 12 months to adhere to their obligations under international counter narcotics agreements.

“In addition, the US government seriously considered designating Colombia as a country that has failed demonstrably to adhere to its obligations under international counter narcotics agreements due to the extraordinary growth of coca cultivation and cocaine production over the past 3 years, including record cultivation during the last 12 months,” he said.

Ultimately, Colombia is not designated because the Colombian National Police and Armed Forces are close law enforcement and security partners of the US in the Western Hemisphere, they are improving interdiction efforts, and have restarted some eradication that they had significantly curtailed beginning in 2013, Trump said.
