Harpic renews its focus on ‘Sanitation for All’ with Harpic Mission Swachhta aur Paani

Harpic under its flagship initiative ‘Mission Swachhta aur Paani’ started the week with an 8-hour long telethon on World Toilet Day showcasing its commitment towards safer toilets for all and the need for abehavioural shift towards clean and hygienic toilets. After threesuccessful years of Harpic’s biggest long-term campaign, the initiative is pivoting towards a resurgence in the sector of health, hygiene, and sanitation by making the cause bigger and more inclusive with Harpic Mission Swacchta aur Paani  MilkarLe Ye Zimmedari.

‘Mission Swachhta aur Paani’, a Sanitation for All campaign is a movement that upholds the cause of inclusive sanitation where everyone has access to clean toilets. It advocates equality for all genders, abilities, castes and classes and strongly believes that clean toilets are a shared responsibility. This is a pledge to keep India Samagra Swachh, to protect communities from diseases, fight for sustainable sanitation and access to safe toilets. The campaign also declared a call to citizens from across the country to share their thoughts on what could be a 5-point behavioral change mandate for the nation.

Ravi Bhatnagar, Director – External Affairs and Partnerships, Reckitt – South Asia said“Since its inception, Harpic and News18’s Mission Swachhta aur Paani has been working on inclusive sanitation in India, and the importance of water for hygiene and sanitation. We get a lot of strength from our partners across to bring about a change on-ground. Through our various interventions, we aim to reach over 20 million Indians with information and tools that can help drive behaviour change and generate awareness on the importance of proper sanitation in one’s overall health for a healthier India. We’re sure that in times to come, behaviour is going to change, in the most difficult terrains also. Through this initiative, today we are taking forward the main theme of World Toilet Day 2022, that is, making the invisible, visible.”

Campaign Ambassador Akshay Kumar presented to Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat a “five-point mandate” to drive the flagship initiative aimed at behavioural change in India for better sanitation. These include: Access to clean toilets; safe and clean toilets as collective responsibility; dignity and respect for everyone in sanitation facilities; recognizing sanitation as new health; leaving no one behind.

Akshay also highlighted role of children in this Mission. “Toilet etiquette classes should be mandatory in schools across the nation. Students should learn about topics like sanitation, hygiene and water conversation, Akshay Kumar added.

The World Toilet Day special telethon witnessed participation from prominent public figures including spiritual leaders Sadhguru and Swami Chidanand Saraswati; actors Parineeti Chopra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Riteish Deshmukh and Sulabh International Founder Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak. The conversations were stirred towards promoting sanitation and clean water for all, including clean toilets which are accessible to everyone, gender inclusivity and how the toilet does not discriminate between genders.

Saurabh Jain, Regional Marketing Director, South Asia – Hygiene, Reckitt, commented, As a global leader in the toilet care category, Harpic reaches over 100mn households across India. Being a part of important global conversations on sanitation and driving impact on-ground is not an obligation, rather a privilege for us. We believe there is a need for everyone to do their bit in maintaining clean and hygienic toilets. Harpic is consistently working towards providing access to safe toilets by making quality hygiene and wellness products accessible to everyone. Driving sustained behaviour change is imperative to drive impact and thus, with Harpic News18 Mission Swachhta aur Paani our efforts and interventions are aligned with the philosophy of leaving no one behind. We hope to continue creating a difference at grass root levels with each passing year and also urge citizens to understand their individual responsibility and join us in this mission to create a healthier nation – Milkar Lein Ye Zimmedari.”

Answering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call for water conservation, Harpic Mission Paani was launched nationally in August 2019 with a commitment to generatecollective consciousness, action, and behaviour change for protecting and conserving water resources. Since then, Mission Paani has enabled communication on habitual changes not just around water conservation but also sanitation and hygiene which are an integral part of the campaign. Harpic Mission Swacchtaaur Paani also announced its partnership with Sesame Workshop India as part of the campaign which will focus on educating children about the importance of sanitation and hygiene, promote them to practice it as well as spread the word to everyone else around them.

With water being at the epicenter of sanitation and maintaining toilet hygiene, it is imperative to bring about a change in societal behaviour to build a healthy nation. Harpic rejuvenates the cause by consistently working to improve water and hygiene facilitiesthroughout India with specialised programs that address the issue with Mission Swachhta aur Paani.

Richa Chadha Under limelight For Tweeting ‘Galwan Says Hi’ And Allegedly Mocking Indian Army

Actor Richa Chadha found herself in the middle of a new controversy after her latest tweet upset a section of social media users.

The actor, on Wednesday, shared a statement made by the Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi and invited back the ire of many on Twitter.

In his statement to the media, Dwivedi was speaking about the Indian army being ready to take back Pakistani-occupied Kashmir.

‘Galwan says hi,’ said Richa in a tweet while sharing the viral statement by the Lt. General. As soon as the actor made that tweet, all hell broke loose on Twitter and netizens started slamming her for allegedly insulting the army by talking about the Galwan incident and mocking the sacrifice of the soldiers during the 2020 clash between India and China. BJP’s Majinder Singh Sirsa added to the entire outrage and wrote that Richa should be ashamed of her tweet. His tweet read, “Disgraceful tweet. Should be withdrawn at the earliest. Insulting our armed forces is not justified.”

Lt General Upendra Dwivedi’s statement was made with reference to Defence Minister Rajnath Shinde’s previous address in which he said the Indian army’s goal is to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir now. He said, “We have just begun our journey of development in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. We will achieve our goal when we reach Gilgit and Baltistan .”

Adding his bit to the statement by the minister, Dwivedi said on Tuesday, “As far as the Indian Army is concerned, it will carry out any order given by the Government of India. Whenever such orders are given, we will always be ready for it.”

He also said, “The military is always ready to make sure that ceasefire understanding is never broken as it is in the interest of both nations, but if broken at any time, we will give them a befitting reply.”

Richa’s tweet made all the hashtags against Bollywood rise again. #BoycottBollywood has started to trend again as we write this story.

In fact, I have selected for you, among the many fashion trends for autumn winter 2022/23, some trends that I think are very suitable for women of all ages.

And that, most importantly, are wearable and easy to integrate into everyone’s wardrobe.

I am convinced that many of us already have that right garment or accessory in our closet, most suitable for experimenting and playing with new fashion trends and integrating them into our style.

But let’s come right away to the new and most wearable Fashion Trends in 2022/2023.

1 – THE MINISKIRT

Fashion Trends in 2022/2023
Fashion Trends in 2022/2023

The first trend we see – or rather revisit – this season is the miniskirt, which we saw in a micro version last spring.

This year, mini lengths in both skirts and dresses are being reintroduced to us, but in a decidedly more wearable key, with lengths more appropriate even for us over 40.

In winter, it will then be even easier to wear skirts and short dresses if we wish, because we can pair them with beautiful stockings and tights.

2- SHOE TRENDS

For the new season we are witnessing two major returns, already present and in past years, although more quietly.

Fashion Trends in 2022/2023

The first stars of the season will be the very classic pumps, both in classic or even minimal and super decorated versions. Sometimes with chain elements or precious brooches for the more eclectic models.

In any case, pumps will be one of the strong trends of autumn.

The other big comeback involves over-the-knee boots. The super feminine model that covers the knees not only keeps you warm, but is also very chic, especially when paired with mid-length or maxi skirts and dresses.

3 – THE COLOR BLACK

We are seeing it already now a lot and already now late summer and in fall and winter it will be even more present, along with a hint of winter white, which I always like very much. In fact I even dedicated a whole post to it, because it is a beautiful color.

I know this is news that will make many and many of us happy, but it will throw others into discouragement, who are convinced that black is unsuitable for mature women.

Personally, I don’t think so at all. I love black and it is definitely a very present color in my wardrobe.

4 – THE PANTSUIT (OR SKIRT SUIT)

another seasonal trend imported from previous years is the pantsuit – or skirt suit.

It is, in my opinion, a true wildcard, which I do not yet own but certainly give it a thought.

In fact, I find it to be extremely versatile that can be used in so many ways for work but also, separated, for more informal occasions or a nice evening.

Chosen in a darker, more elegant color, it can be worn alone, with a minimal top, or with a beautiful bright blouse.

A super versatile garment, in short, especially for those of us who like the capsule wardrobe concept, made up of very few pieces, because it multiplies the options.

5 – THE LOAFER WITH A PROMINENT SOLE

Returning to footwear, a strong trend of the moment is undoubtedly the loafers with a prominent sole.

While certainly not a very new trend, loafers will still be seen a lot this fall and winter.

Those with prominent soles, which have already been well established for a few seasons, will go a long way, making a big comeback this year.

But we will really see them in all colors and leathers – from the more classic and minimalist lines, to those with a really prominent sole or a high heel, which besides being very trendy also have the merit of protecting us from the weather.

6 – THE CLASSIC SHIRT (EVEN WORN AS A JACKET)

This fall trend we are already seeing now involves the classic shirt, often white, but also very colorful.

It makes a big comeback among the Fashion Trends in 2022/2023 and is also worn in a casual key, perhaps open like a jacket.

Clearly, going forward with the season, the same classic shirt we can wear under blazers first and under coats later.

It is taken both for the office and for an evening, depending on the color and fabric.

A nice shirt, in short, is a timeless classic, but also a super trendy item this fall.

7– TRENCH COAT

Fashion Trends in 2022/2023

It returns both in the oversized, sometimes asymmetrical version that we have seen in previous seasons, and in the more classic and “clean” version, often in the very classic beige.

8 – THE PLEATED MIDI SKIRT

Fashion Trends in 2022/2023

Another trendy item making a comeback with fury is the midi skirt, preferably a pleated one.

This fall it will be in fashion paired first with loafers or simple but stylish sneakers. Then, as the season progresses, also paired with beautiful boots.

It is a truly versatile garment that can be downplayed with ease. In fact, just pair it with a soft sweater or sweatshirt.

But with a pair of a very stylish pair of boots and a faux fur or a chic camel coat, here it is transformed, becoming super chic.

9 – TOP HANDLE BAGS, COMFORTABLE AND STYLISH

The latest hot trend of the season that I would like to tell you about is about handbags.

As you know, I am a fan of handbags and I collect them. So I immediately took the opportunity to give me a new one as a gift!

The model that will be on trend this fall and winter is both and also a great classic: it is the so-called “Top Handle” model, generally quite structured and featuring a top handle.

HDFC Bank partners with Flywire to Digitize Education Payments from India

HDFC Bank partners with Flywire to Digitize Education Payments from India

Mumbai, November 22, 2022: HDFC Bank Limited, India’s largest private-sector bank, today announced that it has partnered with Flywire Corporation (Nasdaq: FLYW) (Flywire), a global payments enablement and software company, to enable Indian payers to seamlessly and digitally pay international education fees to higher education institutions all over the world. The integration provides students and families a streamlined experience when making high-value tuition paymentsand helps them comply with LRS requirements.

HDFC Bank integrates directly with Flywire’s platform, providing Indian students with a fully digital checkout experience for their transactions, ranging from application fees to tuition payments. Students can make the payment in Indian rupees, and benefit from a secure and streamlined payment experience, with assurance that the funds are delivered to the educational institution. Likewise, institutions accepting payments through Flywire benefit from receiving payments on time in the local currency, as well as full transparency into the transaction history, which eases their reconciliation processes and streamlines operational efficiencies.

As the demand for higher education experiences abroad remains strong, Indian students are increasingly an important cohort from which to recruit. According to the 2022 Open Doors Report, nearly 200,000 Indian students studied in the United States during the 2021-2022 academic year, which represents a 19% increase over the prior year. Another report by ICEF also forecasts that the Indian outbound student population will go to a wider range of host countries, and will more than double over the next few years, to reach 1.8 million students by 2024.

Despite these mobility trends, Indian students have traditionally been faced with a lengthy, paper-based experience when it comes to making tuition payments. As a result, Indian students are seeking a simpler, more flexible payment process for their international payments. According to a Flywire report, 82% of Indian students surveyed believe that simplified payment processes would improve their education experience.

The partnership between HDFC Bank and Flywire provides an innovative approach to overseas educationpayments and offers many benefits to students and institutions alike. First, the integration creates a seamless and digital payment experience, transforming what was formerly a lengthy and complex process to one that is completely online. The integration also streamlines the compliance process for Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), which are guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India that enable Indian residents to remit up to $250,000 USD overseas, per financial year. HDFC Bank and Flywire provide all the necessary verification under LRS requirements quickly, and all from within the payer’s digital payment experience. The integration also benefits institutions, as they can automatically capture all relevant student information, ensuring payments are accurate and identifiable. Flywire identifies the source of payments delivered to an institutions’ bank account and automatically posts each payment to the correct student record.

We are pleased to partner with Flywire and offer a comprehensive suite of payments solutions to Indian students,” said Jatinder Gupta, Business Head – Retail Trade and Forex, HDFC Bank. “Our combined network and scale of solutions will allow students and families to conveniently and securely manage their international payments, whether they’re in India or abroad. By partnering with Flywire, we’re expanding the footprint of our payments solutions to benefit the next generation of students.”

One of the leading advantages of this partnership is the sheer convenience of it for payers, as it reduces time and documentation they’d normally have to provide,” said Mohit Kansal, VP of Global Payments, Flywire. “The combination of Flywire’s payment technology and HDFC’s vast banking network creates an open-banking experience for Indian payers, enabling them to transform what could normally be a paper-based process, to one that’s now completely online.”

IndianOil shall also carry out special training and workshops on TB diagnosis for IndianOil’s Doctors, paramedical staff, and nurses. For smooth implementation, the teams will collaborate with District TB Officers for guidance, training of industrial staff and treatment & monitoring of affected stakeholders

Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and Other UPI Payment Apps May Impose Transaction Limit

Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and Other UPI Payment Apps May Impose Transaction Limit

UPI payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm may soon impose limits on transactions.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which runs the UPI digital pipeline, is in talks with the Reserve Bank on implementation of its proposed December 31 deadline for limiting the volume cap of players to 30 percent.

There is no cap on volume and Google Pay and PhonePe hold a market share of about 80 percent.

NPCI  had proposed a 30 percent volume cap for third-party app providers (TPAP) in a bid to avoid concentration risk in November 2022.

A meeting has already taken place to comprehensively look at all aspects. Besides NPCI officials, senior officials of the finance ministry and RBI also participated in this meeting.

No final decision has been taken to extend the December 31 deadline as the NPCI is still evaluating all the possibilities. By the month’s end, NPCI is likely to decide upon the issue of UPI market cap implementation.

While Paytm, the third-ranking payment app wants market capping to be implemented as per the timeline (December 2022), market leaders Walmart-owned PhonePe, as well as Google Pay, had independently approached UPI regulator National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for the extension of the deadline by at least three more years.

The Central Government had recently said that UPI is convenient and that there were no plans to put any charges on it.

Maharashtra is set to replicate some of the innovative projects in Kerala’s school education sector. This was decided after a delegation from Maharashtra led by school education minister Deepak Vasant Kesarkar called on his Kerala counterpart V Sivankutty and also interacted with officials here to understand the state’s school education model.

The interactions focused mainly on the achievements of the General Education Protection Campaign of the first Pinarayi Vijayan government and the Vidyakiranam project of the present government.

Kesarkar noted that many educational models of Kerala were exemplary and directed Maharashtra officials to examine the feasibility of replicating them in the state.

Various agencies that implement programmes in the general education sector introduced their projects before the visiting delegation. Projects implemented by Samagra Shiksha Kerala and interventions for differently-abled students were also discussed in detail.

Charu Gupta, an aspiring and independent woman, has always believed that there is no shortcut to hard work. As the founder of Saikara Collections that deals in party supplies and home decor, the initial few years were tough to develop her business. She was working for different jobs before becoming a small business owner, but the initial step towards starting something of her own was owing to some crisis in the family. However, with an initial capital of INR 5,000 in hand she founded her own company. Guided by Flipkart’s insight and support from her loved ones, she transformed her small business into a thriving enterprise and within six months her business earned a gold tag on Flipkart.

Staying true to her mantra, courage and perseverance along with her undying wish to make it big for her family kept her going all along. Reminiscing about her journey, she says, “Securing a turnover of INR 5 crore today, I can’t help but look back at 2015 when everything changed for me. Every move I make, starts with highlighting my persistence to not only redefine my own limits, but those set by the society for me as a woman entrepreneur”, she added.

Chitra Vyas is an inspiration to many who are ambitious in the entrepreneurial space. Her story highlights the importance of not giving up amidst challenges that life throws at us. She started as an amateur and with her consistent efforts she went on to win the ‘Best Entrepreneur’ award on Flipkart.

Chitra who hails from Hyderabad started her journey as an entrepreneur selling electronics on her own website that she had owned earlier. Facing multiple logistics and distribution challenges, she turned to Flipkart in 2015 and under the guidance of her manager provided by Flipkart, her business and entrepreneurial journey took off well.

She started her website with a small investment from her uncle, but upon facing several challenges and lack of expert guidance to ensure product visibility in the market, she had to close down her company in 2015.  During that time, Flipkart emerged as a ray of hope with which she aspired to see better results for her business.

Within a brief period of joining the platform, the sales surged. She received 100 orders within a week. “Flipkart gave us the guidance we needed to broaden our customer base. An account manager was assigned to help us with our business and based on his advice we started adding more categories to our listings. That’s when we decided to begin exploring our opportunities in the fashion category and started selling footwear,” she added.

Over the years, understanding the space better, most of her own extended family members who had never shopped online and were skeptical about the product quality have started buying essentials and other products on Flipkart.

Her growth on the platform has been encouraging and she wishes more business owners would take note of her journey and take the initial step in starting a business online. She says, “I never imagined I would become such a successful entrepreneur with a small business like mine. But coming so far and making it big is definitely satisfying and overwhelming at the same time. Considering my efforts and growth, I was awarded ‘Best Entrepreneur’ among Flipkart’s women sellers in 2018. It’s a nice feeling when you start with five orders and now you receive 700 every day on an average. We started small and now we have an entire office. We are still enjoying the journey and wish more women entrepreneurs to be a part of the online revolution.”

Sristi Mishra is a microbiology graduate from Dehradun who moved to Mumbai after getting married and found an interest in jewelry making while watching YouTube videos. Soon, she picked it up as a hobby and decided to earn from it. Her story is a true inspiration for anyone who wishes to turn their hobby into a successful business.

Sristi is a self-taught entrepreneur who started designing and making jewelry by watching YouTube videos. What started as a hobby is helping her earn and build a name for herself as an entrepreneur.  She picked up the art fairly quickly by watching videos online and became quite efficient with it. While browsing through a few stores at a mall, she observed that customers were interested and were buying designs similar to hers. Encouraged to pursue her hobby and build a small business out of it, she decided to sell her handmade jewelry online. She founded a company named JBNFashionGallery and partnered with Flipkart in 2017.

Considering the wide customer base online marketplace provides, she was firm with her decision to make her business exclusive to the ecommerce platform. Sristi says, “If you’re selling online, the risk is relatively lower as compared to running a business offline. I am happy that I am getting to run a business at the comfort of my home. Today everyone has shifted to digital platforms and shopping therefore has become convenient with access to a wide array of products which earlier was next to impossible offline. For small business owners like us it’s a huge enabler to offer our products to national consumers. Another great aspect of running business online is access to consumer insights which helps in keeping up with the latest trends online”.

Recalling her journey, she shared what it was like to start a small business with just INR 5,000 and growing the business many folds over the years. She is happy to witness how proud her family members are today as she is the first member to start a business of her own. She is upbeat about the future and plans to add more categories in the women’s accessories segment, with products such as handbags, purses, wallets, etc. while continuing to expand her business nationally.

Customers with NSDL Demat accounts can avail of the LAS limit from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 Cr by pledging their equity investments online. Customers can pledge from a large list of approved equities and create a loan account on the same day.

The loan will be made available in the form of an overdraft facility. Customers can withdraw the required amount via mobile app, whenever and from wherever they need it. On withdrawal, the amount is directly credited to the customer’s bank account the same day. An interest rate of 9% p.a. will be applicable only on the utilized amount and for the duration utilized. Users can apply for the LAS limit, withdraw & repay the required amount, foreclose the loan account and complete many other activities online directly via the mobile application.

Earlier the cumbersome application process and the long-time taken to get the loan account created often disheartened customers. Mirae Asset Financial Services has enjoyed a good acceptance to loan against mutual funds online and aims to take this a notch up by adding loan against shares. The ability to get a loan against shares on the same day without the hassle of paperwork will be a major factor in the brand’s effort to drive the product.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Krishna Kanhaiya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mirae Asset Financial Services (India) said It is exciting to add digital loan against shares with NSDL in our product folio. Thanks to NSDL’s technology initiative, it has allowed us to enable customers to pledge their shares online and get loan against shares on the same day. We have received an encouraging response to our previous launch of loan against mutual funds and I am confident that loan against shares will further give our customers more options to manage their unplanned and short-term expenses. The growing retail market of share investors makes LAS product even more important as it allows investors to protect their investments and provide liquidity to manage short-term expenses like traveling, medical expenses, house repairs, etc at the same time.

Ms. Padmaja Chunduru, MD & CEO of National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) said “NSDL has been a technology enabler and a facilitator to the Indian Securities Market. NSDL Demat Account Holders who are in need of quick and fast loan for their personal needs or even emergencies can now look beyond traditional means and avail it in digital mode. The civil aviation ministry on Wednesday said the use of masks is not compulsory during air travel but passengers should preferably use them amid the declining number of coronavirus cases.

Till now, the use of masks or face covers while travelling on flights was mandatory.

In a communication to the scheduled airlines, the ministry said the latest decision has been taken in line with the government’s policy of a graded approach to COVID-19 management response.

“… the in-flight announcements henceforth may only mention that in view of the threat posed by COVID-19, all passengers should preferably use mask/face covers,” the communication said.

It also said that any specific reference to fine/penal action need not be announced as part of the in-flight announcements.

The programme is anticipated to address difficulties with theft, offer protection for cylinders, have data on their safety evaluations, and include information on where it was bottled, among other things.

According to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders will soon include QR codes that will help manage the household cylinders.

The code-based track and trace project will help to address concerns with theft, tracking, and better cylinder inventory management.

“Fueling Traceability! A remarkable innovation – this QR Code will be pasted on existing cylinders & welded on new ones – when activated it has the potential to resolve several existing issues of pilferage, tracking & tracing & better inventory management of gas cylinders,” said the petroleum minister releasing a video on his Twitter profile.

In the video, which is from the World LPG Week 2022 event taking place in Uttar Pradesh, Puri interacts with officials and asks about the viability of the concept.

The machine-readable optical labels known as QR (Quick Response) codes are a digital solution that provide information about the object they are attached to.

20,000 of the initial batch of LPG were given the code, and all 14.2 kg household cylinders will receive the code in the coming months.

In an effort to improve customer service, the programme is anticipated to address difficulties with theft, provide security for cylinders, have information on their safety tests, and have information on where it was bottled, among other things.

At the event, Puri spoke about the importance of access to affordable, clean energy, stating that supporting innovations in the LPG energy mix, efficiency, conservation, bio LPG, synthetic LPG, etc., would promote positive growth and advance efforts to combat climate change.

India will switch to using USB C as the standard port for charging all smart gadgets

India will switch to using USB C as the standard port for charging all smart gadgets

Rohit Kumar, the Union government’s secretary for consumer affairs, said the parties came to an agreement at a meeting of an inter-ministerial task group.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh announced on Wednesday that India will switch to a USB type C charging port for all smart gadgets after stakeholders reached an agreement at a meeting of an inter-ministerial task force established by the Union government. In order to transition to two standard chargers—one for all compatible devices and another for inexpensive feature phones—the government is organising extensive discussions.Portable device universal chargers will not only make things easier for consumers, but also reduce the enormous volumes of e-waste produced in the nation.

According to an ASSOCHAM-EY report titled “Electronic Waste Management in India,” India is predicted to have produced 5 million tonnes of e-waste in 2021, trailing only China and the US in terms of production.“During the meeting, there was a general agreement among the participants to use USB Type-C as a charging port for electronic devices such laptops, tablets, and smartphones, among others.

Additionally, it was discussed if a different charging connector should be used for feature phones, according to Singh.

Standard connectors and charging devices are already becoming more prevalent in many affluent economies. The European Union (EU) wants all devices to have USB-C ports as standard. According to a Bloomberg story, the EU passed provisional law on June 7 this year requiring all future cellphones sold in the EU, including Apple’s iPhone, to include a universal USB-C connector for wired charging by the middle of 2024.

According to a second official, one of India’s worries is that after the EU makes the switch, it would dump outdated phones and equipment in India.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change all sent delegates to the meeting on Wednesday.

A separate sub-group of the task force has been established by the consumer affairs ministry to look at the viability of standard charging connections for wearable technology, such as smart watches.

In order to ensure “effective implementation and easy adoption,” the official cited above stated that stakeholders had agreed on a phased roll-out of uniform charging ports.

He continued, “Industry should overcome inertia in adopting a uniform charging port in the interest of consumer welfare and prevention of avoidable e-waste.”

The environment ministry will probably conduct an impact assessment to “evaluate and examine” the effects of switching to a standardised charging port on the production of electronic waste.

“Since the world is moving toward USB-C connectors, it makes sense for us to do the same.

Ajay Garg of the Electronic Industries Association of India noted one crucial fact: “What is in now is out tomorrow because the rate of technological obsolescence in the electronic business is very high.

According to a recent letter sent by the consumer affairs secretary to industry representatives inviting them to consultations, the Union government is of the opinion that the nation should move to two types of standard charging devices, one for smart phones and other portable devices like laptops and tablets, and another for cheaper feature phones, which has a larger market share.

Officials anticipate that by establishing a standard for universal chargers, phone manufacturers will no longer need to provide chargers in the box because consumers will already have the necessary chargers and charging accessories.
