Nagpur : Often referred to as the king of nuts, almonds are versatile nuts that form a delicious part of our daily lives and offer natural goodness in every bite. Owing to their crunchy, scrumptious and nutritious nature, almonds can be made a part of our daily diet in various ways. A unique cookout session conducted in Nagpur helped take this idea forward, where almonds were the main ingredient involving unique snacking and festive recipes demonstrated by homemakers of the city. The session was conducted by Chef Vishnu Manohar and Nutritionist Meghana Kumare, as three homemakers from the city led the way in showcasing how almonds could be made a part of our daily diets through snacking and festival food preparations.
The interactive afternoon kickstarted with the three homemakers displaying their culinary skills by demonstrating a recipe each which featured almonds as the hero ingredient in snacking and festive recipes. While the homemakers prepared their dishes, nutritionist Meghana Kumare and Chef Vishnu Manohar shared insights into why almonds make for a healthy snack. Nutritionist Meghana Kumare highlighted that “Almonds are a powerhouse of 15 nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium dietary fibre, protein, and more.”
Nutritionist Meghana Kumare said, “For Indian families, food comes first and we don’t usually plan our meals especially during midafternoon or early evening snacking time.
Snacking smart with almonds is a great way to lead a healthy lifestyle. Almonds have been shown to lower total and LDL cholesterol when included in a healthy diet and might help in reducing levels of heart-damaging inflammation . Not just this, a handful of almonds promotes the feeling of fullness, helping you keep hunger at bay . They are naturally high in dietary fibre and low in sugars .”
Chef Vishnu Manohar added, “With all of us becoming health conscious, we are always on the lookout for recipes with a healthy twist. Nuts like almonds are a healthy option, are also traditionally considered festive and hence can be used to prepare various snacks that you can serve during festivals.

Nagpur : Who is suffering most because of the development works being taken up in Nagpur in a haphazard manner? The answer is ‘everybody’. Sufferings of human beings can be heard because they can raise voice. What about flora and fauna? If one takes a round of city, one would realise the manner in which civic authorities have neglected the existence of trees. The trees by the roadside are gasping for breath. Their shouts can not be heard by humans but the suffocation, they are experiencing is making them feel so uncomfortable that only death can give them freedom from that choked respiration. ‘The Hitavada’ photographers have been taking photographs of various places where no space for the trees to respire was left. Even the citizens of Nagpur are bringing such places into the notice of this newspaper. ‘The Hitavada’ extends its thanks to them for their yeoman service.
Like what the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) did near Raj Bhavan chowk, same thing can be observed on the road in front of Ravi Bhavan just close to High Court building. There are a lot of old trees. Earlier, there was soil in large quantity around these trees. When concretisation started it encroached upon the maximum part of soil with very little part of it left for the trees. Contractors after concretisation made a very meek and non-serious effort by leaving less than one foot space around already existed trees. There are big trees which require lot of space for the respiration. If adequate space is left then they don’t require watering, they can obtain water from their own resources. But it seems the authorities be it Metro, NHAI, NMC, PWD have joined hands to murder the trees collectively so that the third generation of human being also would gasp and live on the mercy of oxygen masks. The groundwater level has already gone down so no tree would be able to grow.
If we really want to do plantation then we must see that the tree should have proper growth for which access should be made clear. Water percolation should be smoothened.
Municipal Commissioner issues orders to ensure enough space around tree trunk
Taking a serious note of trees getting suffocated during construction of cement roads in Nagpur city, Abhijit Bangar, Municipal Commissioner has ordered the officers concerned to remove cement gathered close to tree trunks. He also ordered to issue notices to all authorities concerned with regards to taking necessary precautions while construction of new roads, so that trees will not get suffocated in future. NMC would be conducting a meeting on every Monday to review the situation.

Nagpur : Rahul Gandhi today expressed regret to the Supreme Court for his comments on its order on the Rafale fighter jet deal, accepting that he made them in “the heat of political campaigning” and the court “never said these words”.
“My statements were used and misused by political opponents,” he said in his statement to the Supreme Court.
Rahul Gandhi was served notice by the Supreme Court and accused of misquoting it on its Rafale order and was given a week to explain before the ruling BJP’s contempt case against him was taken up on Tuesday.
“We make it clear the statement attributed to this court in the address made by the respondent (Rahul Gandhi) to the media and public has been incorrectly attributed to this court. We make it clear this court never made such observation. We only decided on the admissibility of documents,” three judges led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said last week.
Rahul Gandhi had made the comments weeks ago in response to the Supreme Court ruling that classified documents accessed by the media can be used as evidence to consider requests to review a verdict clearing the Rafale jet deal.
“I want to thank the Supreme Court. The entire country is saying that Chowkidar chor hai (Chowkidar has committed theft). It is a day of celebration that the Supreme Court has talked about justice,” the Congress president had said in his constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP accused him of putting words in the mouth of the top court and sued him for contempt.
The Supreme Court said it wanted Rahul Gandhi’s response. “We never made any such observations commented on by Rahul Gandhi,” said the court.

However, most of the deadly attacks in the past in Sri Lanka were carried out by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which ran a military campaign for a separate Tamil homeland in the northern and eastern provinces of the island nation for nearly 30 years before its collapse in 2009 after the Sri Lankan Army killed its supreme leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. Briefing reporters, Gunasekera said the police was not able to confirm at the moment if they were all suicide attacks. He, however, said that one of the blasts at the Katuwapitiya (Negombo) church has signs of being what looked like a suicide attack. An unnamed official said a suicide bomber blew himself up at the restaurant of the Cinnamon Grand hotel.
Gunasekara said that 66 bodies were kept at the National Hospital while 260 injured were receiving treatment there and 104 bodies were placed at the Negombo Hospital and 100 injured were receiving treatment at the Hospital. Later in the day, a powerful blast in the capital’s southern suburb near the Colombo Zoo killed two persons, Gunasekera said. When a police team entered a house in the Colombo north suburb of Orugodawatta to conduct a search, a suicide bomber blew himself up causing a concrete floor of a two-storey building to crash on them, killing three policemen in the eighth blast, police said. Soon after the eighth blast, the Government imposed curfew with immediate effect. The curfew will be in force indefinitely until further notice, officials said.
State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene said seven persons had been arrested in connection with the blasts. “We believe these were coordinated attacks, and one group was behind them,” Wijewardene said. President Maithripala Sirisena has appealed for calm. “I have been shocked by this totally unexpected incidents. The security forces haven been asked to take all action necessary,” Sirisena said. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe termed the blasts as “cowardly attacks” and said his Government was working to “contain the situation.” “I call upon all Sri Lankans during this tragic time to remain united and strong… The Government is taking immediate steps to contain this situation,” he tweeted. Security has been intensified around the religious places across the capital. The Government has temporarily blocked all social media platforms. “Horrible scenes.
I saw many body parts strewn all over,” said Harsha de Silva, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution. The Indian High Commission in Colombo said that it was closely monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka. “We are closely monitoring the situation. Indian citizens in need of assistance or help and for seeking clarification may call the following numbers : +94777903082 +94112422788 +94112422789,” the High Commission tweeted. “In addition to the numbers given, Indian citizens in need of assistance or help and for seeking clarification may also call the following numbers +94777902082 +94772234176,” it said. The first blasts were reported at St Anthony’s church in Colombo and St Sebastian’s Church in Negombo just outside the capital.
“A bomb attack to our church, please come and help if your family members are there,” read a post in English on the Facebook page of the St Sebastian’s Church. Images circulated on social media showed severely damaged St Sebastian’s church, with a shattered ceiling and blood on the pews. Heavy security has been deployed at the Bandaranaike International Airport. The riot police and the Special Task Force, extra police security has been deployed around the airport, state-run Daily News reported. Leave of all police personnel has been cancelled in the wake of blasts. Doctors, nurses and health officials who were on leave have been asked to report to work, Health Ministry sources said. All state Universities have been closed until further notice. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said all Easter masses in the Colombo District have been cancelled. Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, under whose leadership the Lankan Army crushed the LTTE, termed the attack as “barbaric”.
“We will not tolerate such violence, such acts of terrorism, of cowardice within our borders once again,” he said. SEVERAL AMERICANS KILLED, SAYS US: Several Americans were among the 215 people killed on Sunday in a series of bombings of hotels and churches in Sri Lanka, Secretary of US State Mike Pompeo said. “While many details of the attacks are still emerging, we can confirm that several US citizens were among those killed,” he said in a statement. Earlier reports citing Sri Lankan officials said the number of dead foreigners as between 27 and 35, including Americans, British and Dutch.
Nagpur : PRIME Minister Narendra Modi called up the President and the premier of Sri Lanka and conveyed heartfelt condolences over the loss of over 207 lives in terrorist attacks in the island nation on Sunday. During his conversations with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Modi condemned the serial terrorist attacks in the strongest terms, perpetrated at sites including religious places and during a religious festival, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. Describing the attacks as “cold-blooded and pre-planned barbaric acts,” Modi said these attacks were another grim reminder of the most serious challenge posed to the entire humanity by terrorism in our region and the entire world.
The Prime Minister renewed the offer of all possible help and assistance to Sri Lanka for ensuring its security against the challenges such as those posed by terrorism, the PMO statement said. He also wished the injured speedy recovery and offered any required assistance for their treatment. Condemning the blasts, Modi said there is no place for barbarism in the region and that India stands in solidarity with the people of the island nation. “Strongly condemn the horrific blasts in Sri Lanka. There is no place for such barbarism in our region,” he tweeted.
“My thoughts are with the bereaved families and prayers with the injured,” Modi said. “Hundreds of innocent people were killed by terrorists in Sri Lanka. They were doing prayers in Church and celebrating Easter, at that time, terrorists killed scores of people including children and women. I express my condolence,” Modi said later addressing a public meeting in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh. “India is standing by Sri Lanka and is ready for any help in the time of crisis,” he said. Expressing concern over the menace of terrorism, Modi also took this opportunity to stress on voting in favour of the BJP to strengthen the fight against terrorism in India. CONG CONDEMNS BLASTS: The Congress on Sunday condemned the serial blasts at multiple locations in Sri Lanka, with party President Rahul Gandhi terming it a “diabolical act of terrorism.” “I’m saddened and disturbed by reports of multiple bomb blasts in Colombo in which hundreds have died,” Gandhi tweeted.
“I strongly condemn this diabolical act of terrorism. My condolences to the families of the victims. I pray the injured make a speedy recovery,” he said. The Congress said on its official Twitter handle, “We are deeply saddened by the terrible attacks on several churches in Sri Lanka on the holy day of Easter. We stand with the people in their time of grief and pray for their recovery.” Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik and former State Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah also condemned the attacks. Expressing shock and anguish over the blasts, Malik said it was a heinous act which attempts to spread fear and hatred.
He added that the whole world needs to stand united in the fight against terrorism. Abdullah said it was hoped that end of the war with the Tamil Tigers would also see the end of terror attacks on the Emerald Isle but sadly that hope was shattered. “While condemning these horrible attacks, designed to cause massive loss of life on a day that was to be celebrated, my prayers for the deceased and injured as also for their loved ones,” the National Conference Vice President said. Mufti said she was pained to hear about the horrific serial blasts. “The sole purpose of these barbaric acts is to create panic and hatred amongst people. It would help not to draw conclusions by floating irresponsible and baseless theories,” the PDP President tweeted.
WORLD LEADERS CONDEMN EASTER SUNDAY BOMBINGS: COUNTRIES from across the globe, including the US, the UK, Russia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh expressed shock and condemnation over the deadly blasts at churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday that left over 215 people dead. Dozens of foreign nationals were feared to have been killed in the near simultaneous blasts, which targeted Catholic church worshippers on Easter Sunday as well as luxury hotels in Colombo. The blasts targeted St Anthony’s Church in Colombo, St Sebastian’s Church in the town of Negombo and another church in the eastern town of Batticaloa around 8.45 am (local time) as the Easter Sunday mass were in progress. Three explosions were reported from the five-star hotels – the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand and the Kingsbury. Foreigners and locals who were injured in hotel blasts were admitted to the Colombo General Hospital. US President Donald Trump on Sunday offered ‘heartfelt condolences” to the people of Sri Lanka.
Nagpur : Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi today strongly denied allegations of sexual harassment and said the independence of the judiciary is “under threat” and it “cannot be made a scapegoat”. A special bench of the Supreme Court today called an emergency hearing after a former employee at the top court, in an affidavit to several Supreme Court judges, alleged she was sexually harassed by the chief justice.
“This is unbelievable. I don’t think I should stoop low even to deny these allegations,” the Chief Justice, who was heading the three judge bench, said during the hearing, and added he will not pass any orders and the senior most judge Arun Mishra will dictate the order.
Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi alleged a conspiracy behind the allegations and said, “There has to be bigger force behind this, they want to deactivate office of Chief Justice”.
The Chief Justice said the allegations had cropped up as he is scheduled to hear important cases in the Supreme Court next week. “I will sit on this chair and discharge my judicial functions without any fear… Things have gone too far. Judiciary cannot be made a scapegoat,” he said.
Chief Justice Gogoi said since there can be no corruption allegations against him, “people have to find something and they have found this”.
“After 20 years of selfless service as judge, I have bank balance of Rs. 6.80 lakh. My peon has more money than that… Is this a reward the Chief Justice gets after 20 years,” he asked.
The Chief Justice said the woman who made the allegations against him has a criminal background and that there are two police cases against her.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the allegations appear to be a blackmail technique.
The special bench of Chief Justice Gogoi, Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Sanjeev Khanna refrained from passing any judicial order “at this stage” and said they “leave it to the discretion of the media to exercise restraint and act responsibly.”
“Faith of people in judiciary will be shaken by such unscrupulous allegations,” Justice Mishra said.
The top court said further judicial orders will be passed at a later stage.
Nagpur : Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has called for large-scale electoral reforms in the country to remove poll-related malpractices and to cleanse the system.
The 81-year-old activist lamented that lack of awareness among voters and focus of political parties on winning the elections by hook or crook has led to degeneration of politics, and he saw no bright future for the country if the situation continued.
Talking to news agency at his native village in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, Mr Hazare said voters were one of the pillars of the democracy.
“But looking at the reports of cash seizure from various places during the electioneering, one wonders why voters take money to vote. Is this the value of our freedom fighters, who gave us independence?” he asked.
Mr Hazare felt that the parties’ approach of coming to power by hook or crook has resulted in criminalisation of politics. “The sanctity of Parliament and state assemblies have come under threat,” he said.
The octogenarian said he believed in the Constitution of India, in which there was no mention of election symbols and political parties.
“Any individual who is above the age of 25 can contest elections. For the last six years, I am in correspondence with the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking removal of election symbols. The Constitution of India recognises only individuals,” he said.
The veteran Gandhian said using the sacrifices of martyrs for seeking votes was saddening. “When the trend is to do anything to come to power, such misuse is seen and voters are sleeping,” he said.
He expressed sadness over not getting any response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his 32 letters written on a range of issues.
He said the appointment of Lokpal recently done by the Centre was not up to his expectations. “But, I am confident that it will put a break on corrupt practices,” Mr Hazare added.
He said he will vote on April 23, as Ahmednagar goes to polls in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra.
“I will vote for the correct candidate or exercise the NOTA (none of the above) option,” he said.
To a question whether he was following the Lok Sabha election campaign, the activist said, “Society does not remain the focal point in politics. The only motto is to get money through power and power through money.”
Mr Hazare said instead of the election symbols, names of candidates and their photos should be enough for voting.
“In 1952, when the first (general) elections were held (in India), printing technology was not advanced and hence symbols were used. But now, you do not need symbols. This will curb the entry of undesirable people in the law-making bodies,” he said.
If the system of symbols is done away, people with good image and proven track record will get elected, he opined.
Nagpur : The Congress is expected to announce its candidates for the seven seats in Delhi, putting to end speculation of an alliance with Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Congress leader PC Chacko said that the AAP was adamant that along with Delhi, the two parties should fight together in Haryana and Punjab, a demand that was not acceptable to his party.
Congress has reportedly zeroed in on seven names for all constituencies. Sheila Dikshit, who heads the party’s Delhi unit, is likely to contest from East Delhi, party sources told .
Ms Dikshit’s predecessor in the state unit, Ajay Maken, is likely to be given ticket from New Delhi. Senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal is likely to be fielded from Chandi Chowk, which he represented twice earlier. The other former parliamentarians expected to contest are Mahabal Mishra, JP Agrawal, Ramesh Sharma and Rajkumar Chauhan.
Both Congress and AAP had arrived at a pact for Delhi – four seats for AAP and three for Congress, but the deal fell off after AAP insisted that have tie-ups in Haryana and Punjab.
“I had a discussion with AAP leader Sanjay Singh and we decided on a 3:4 formula. That was finally decided but then AAP was discussing some other states,” Congress leader PC Chacko said.
He claimed that Congress President Rahul Gandhi had pushed for an alliance with Arvind Kejriwal’s party despite apprehensions in its Delhi unit.
“Our party policy all over India is to fight BJP and join hands with other like-minded parties. In Delhi, despite all our reservations with AAP, we wanted to join hands to defeat BJP,” said Mr Chacko.
Attempts to stitch an alliance between AAP and the Congress started more than a month ago with a meeting at Maharashtra politician Sharad Pawar’s home, where Mamata Banerjee also urged Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi to get talking.
Congress leaders in Delhi, especially its chief Sheila Dikshit, were however against any tie-up. Ms Dikshit, whose 15-year dream run in the capital as chief minister ended because of AAP, had even warned Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi in a letter that an alliance with Mr Kejriwal’s party would hurt the Congress in the long run.
The talks crashed over AAP’s insistence on a tie-up in Haryana and Punjab. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, even claimed he would not need Congress’s help to win the seven seats in Delhi but a tie-up would help limit the BJP in Haryana and in Punjab.
His party later sealed a tie-up with JJP or Jannayak Janata Party.
Elections in Delhi will be held in the sixth phase on May 12 for all 7 Lok Sabha seats. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.

Nagpur : Lashing out at Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said “speedbreaker didi” has lost her sleep after the first two phases of the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal.
Addressing an election rally in South Dinajpur district, PM Modi accused the chief minister of fooling people in the name of ”ma, mati and manush” (mother, land and people). “Speedbreaker didi has lost her sleep after the reports that came in post the first and second phase of polling in the state,” the prime minister told a well-attended rally.
He also flayed Ms Banerjee for allowing people from the “neighbouring country” to campaign for the Trinamool Congress in the state.
“It is shameful that people from neighbouring country are campaigning for the TMC. This was done by the party to appease the minority community,” PM Modi said.
The prime minister criticised Ms Banerjee for seeking proof of the Balakot air strikes in Pakistan, and asked her to, instead, collect evidence against those behind chit fund scams.

Nagpur : In all 303 research scholars have been invited to make presentation of their research work. The scholars have submitted applications for PhD, under four faculties, with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. A large number of students, who are carrying out research in various subjects, are in Physics (25), Chemistry (23) and Pharmaceutical Sciences (17) in pure sciences. Electronic Engineering (13) and Mechanical Engineering (15) are leading fields among the engineering students for doctoral research. This is followed by Civil Engineering (8). The commerce students are also leading with 25 registration and 21 in Business Management and Management.
Surprisingly the highest number of students – 29, are in Social Work. It may be because of wide canvass available to the students of social work in carrying out research. At the same time the university has a large number of Social Work Colleges under its jurisdiction. Except MSS Institute of Social Work, all the colleges are under Department of Social Work, which has a better student: teacher ratio, compared to that under UGC. Among those carrying out research in languages Marathi leads the table with enrolment of 21 students, followed by 18 in English. Surprisingly there is no registration under other languages.
The subjects which have gained more importance in the recent past, like Computer Science, Electronic Science, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Food and Nutrition have less number of students opting for doctoral research. The reasons for this distinction will have to be worked out by the academicians, so that more employability can be generated among the university students. The university has announced dates for their presentations, mostly in the month of May, 2019.
Nagpur : TO celebrate the 29th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope’s launch, NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) have released a breathtaking image of the hourglass-shaped Southern Crab Nebula. The nebula, created by a binary star system, is one of the many objects that Hubble has demystified throughout its productive life, ESA said in a statement. This new image adds to our understanding of the nebula and demonstrates the telescope’s continued capabilities, it said.
On April 24 1990, Hubble was launched on the space shuttle Discovery. It has since revolutionised how astronomers and the general public see the universe. The images it provides are spectacular from both a scientific and a purely aesthetic point of view. Each year the telescope dedicates a small portion of its precious observing time to take a special anniversary image, focused on capturing particularly beautiful and meaningful objects.
This peculiar nebula, which exhibits nested hourglass-shaped structures, has been created by the interaction between a pair of stars at its centre. The unequal pair consists of a red giant and a white dwarf. The red giant is shedding its outer layers in the last phase of its life before it too lives out its final years as a white dwarf. Some of the red giant’s ejected material is attracted by the gravity of its companion.
When enough of this cast-off material is pulled onto the white dwarf, it too ejects the material outwards in an eruption, creating the structures we see in the nebula. The object was first written about in 1967, but was assumed to be an ordinary star until 1989, when it was observed using telescopes at the European Southern Observatory’s La Silla Observatory.
The resulting image showed a roughly crab-shaped extended nebula, formed by symmetrical bubbles of gas and dust. These observations only showed the outer hourglass emanating from a bright central region that could not be resolved. It was not until Hubble observed the Southern Crab in 1998 that the entire structure came into view. This image revealed the inner nested structures, suggesting that the phenomenon that created the outer bubbles had occurred twice in the (astronomically) recent past.

Nagpur : Sky gazers will have a treat waiting for them as the annual Pink Moon graces the night sky. Also known as Sprouting Grass Moon, Flower Moon, Egg Moon, Milk Moon, Fish Moon, Corn Planting Moon, Pesach Moon, Paschal Moon, Hanuman Jayanti, and Bak Poya, the Pink Moon doesn’t really mean that the Moon will change its colour to pink today. The full moon of April gets its “Pink Moon” nickname from Native Americans who named it after “moss pink,” or wild ground phlox—one of the early spring flowers in US. This is the fourth full moon of 2019.
What is a Pink Moon?
As we mentioned earlier, the full name of April is called Pink Moon and a number of other names around the world. The name was given by the Native Americans, who used to name the full moons so they could keep track of their harvesting schedule. Other full moon names given by Native Americans are Wolf Moon (January), Snow Moon (February), Worm Moon (March), Flower Moon (May), Strawberry Moon (June), Buck Moon (July), Sturgeon Moon (August), Harvest Moon (September), Hunter’s Moon (October), Beaver Moon (November), and Cold Moon (December).
The Pink Moon doesn’t have anything to do with the actual colour of Moon, which may appear red or orange depending on dust, smoke, or ash in atmosphere.
When and where can I watch the Pink Moon today?
Pink Moon will be visible around the world, depending on the weather, on Friday, April 19, night. It will officially become the full moon at 07:12am EDT (04:42pm IST) and will continue to appear full for about three days, writes NASA on its blog. Considering the extended visibility of the full moon, everyone should be able to watch Pink Moon this Good Friday in their time zone.
Space.com notes that as the Moon will be three days past its perigee, the point in its orbit where Moon is nearest to Earth, it will almost be a “supermoon” and will appear larger than average. Technically supermoon occur when a full moon coincides with perigee, which is why this year’s Pink Moon is not being called a Pink Super Moon.
How can I watch the Pink Moon?
To watch the Pink Moon, you don’t need any special equipment, just a clear sky without much light pollution. However, if you are planning to use binoculars or a small telescope, you will need special moon filter to avoid the glare, else you may not be able to see much.
When is the next full moon in 2019 and what is it called?
The full moon of the next month will occur on May 18, 2019 and is called Blue Moon or a Flower Moon. According to NASA, Moon will become a full moon at 05:11pm EDT (02:41am IST, May 19). It will be the third full moon of the season.
