Budget 2023: There will be no income tax up to ₹7 lakh, announced Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2023 on Wednesday.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting Union Budget 2023-24 in Parliament today, said the income tax rebate has been extended on income up to ₹7 lakh under the new tax regime, up from ₹5 lakh so far. The FM also announced there will not be any new tax for income up to ₹3 lakh.
According to the finance minister, the five major announcements in income tax will benefit India’s “hard-working middle class”. “The first one concerns rebate. Currently, those with income up to ₹5 lakh do not pay any income tax in both old and new tax regimes. I propose to increase the rebate limit to ₹7 lakh in the new tax regime. Thus, persons in the new tax regime, with income up to ₹7 lakh will not have to pay any tax,” she said.
She also proposed to change the tax structure in the personal income tax regime by reducing the number of slabs and increasing the tax exemption limit to ₹3 lakh. “The new tax rates are 0 to ₹3 lakh – nil, ₹3 to 6 lakh – 5%, ₹6 to 9 lakh – 10%, ₹9 to 12 lakh – 15%, ₹12 to 15 lakh – 20% and above ₹15 lakh – 30%, ” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during her speech in Parliament.
Australia Player Khawaja misses flight to India after visa delay
Australia opener Usman Khawaja missed the team’s flight to India on Wednesday for their four-Test tour due to a visa delay, Cricket Australia (CA) said.
A Cricket Australia spokesman said the Pakistan-born batter was the only player in Australia’s squad not to board because his visa had not arrived in time.
Khawaja posted a popular meme on social media of a man sitting on a garden chair staring into space, with the caption: “Me waiting for my Indian Visa like… #stranded #dontleaveme #standard #anytimenow.”
Cricket Australia expect the visa to arrive later on Wednesday and said Khawaja had been booked on a flight out on Thursday.
Some team support staff are also flying out on Thursday.

IAF’s Sukhoi-30 and Mirage aircraft crash in Madhya Pradesh
A Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000 aircraft crashed near Morena in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Search and rescue operations have been launched, informed Defence sources.
The two aircraft had taken off from the Gwalior air base in Madhya Pradesh where an exercise was going on.
According to the sources, the Sukhoi-30 MKI had two pilots while the Mirage had one during the crash that occurred in the bordering area of Morena and Bharatpur (Rajasthan). One fighter jet fell in Bharatpur and the other one in Morena.
