Nagpur 23rd February: A 45 year old electrician had a fall from 20 feet electric pole while on duty about 150 kms from Nagpur. After fall he had very severe pain and a loud click sound in the back after which his back became bent and crooked. Without wasting a minute his primary doctor referred him to Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur.
At Wockhardt Hospitals Dr Priyesh Dhoke Senior Spine Specialist checked him and advised him for spine X- ray and MRI scan. He was shifted gently on a spine board with all the care under Dr Dhoke’s supervision. His investigations showed multiple fractures in spine of which the D12 vertebrae was badly fractured. Dr Priyesh Dhoke said, “ This as an unstable spine injury where three columns of the spine are fractured according to AO spine classification.”

He explained them about the new and most advance technique of Spine fixation i.e minimal invasive spine fixation[key hole spine surgery].This is a percutaneous spine fixation technique in which screws and rods are inserted through a small port/cut in the skin under the fluoroscopic guidance and monitoring .The benefits of this advanced surgery is minimum skin cut, very less blood loss, no muscle dissection/damage, early patient mobilization , very minimum post operative pain. The patient can walk within 6 hours of surgery. Even the patient can take bath the next day and can be discharged.
The patient and the relatives were surprised and happy to see the fast recovery of their patient.
