‘XR’ stands for an uncompromising mix of sportiness and touring capability. The all-new BMW S 1000 XR’s thrilling design reflects pure performance and the promise of long-distance travelling comfort with a riding position that is impressively active yet relaxed. The front fairing and lighting system are defined by sharp edges. Combined with striking beading the overall line is shaped aggressively and consistently to the finish. The visually short tail is also reminiscent of a sport bike. The revised aerodynamics, fairing, comfortable handlebars along with long-distant seating position ensure great riding fun miles after miles. The adjustable windshield provides even better protection against the cold, driving noises and the elements allowing the rider to keep your eyes on the road. All lighting units such as the main headlamp, tail light, indicator lights and instrument cluster uses the latest LED technology. The new LED headlamp not only gives the all-new BMW S 1000 XR a highly dynamic look, it also lights up the road even more effectively than before. The integrated parking lights enhance the bike’s unmistakable appearance.

The newly developed 999 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine is based on the BMW S 1000 RR engine and delivers an output of 165 hp at 11,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. The engine speed range is broader and harmonious to enhance readability. The 4th, 5th and 6th gears now have longer ratios, low noise level, lower fuel consumption and lower engine rpm at cruising speeds. The motorcycle sprints from 0-100 km/hr in just 3.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of over 200 km/hr.
The new suspension system has been completely engineered to enhance riding dynamics and riding fun as compared to the predecessor model. The key factor is the optimum interplay between the frame design and the engine as a load-bearing element. The new double-sided swinging arm offers a particularly sensitive response thanks to its direct linkage. The suspension geometry further increase agility, feedback and enhance the mechanical grip of the rear wheel.

The all-new BMW S 1000 XR has four standard riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The ‘Dynamic Pro’ mode is fully configurable and offers riders a wide range of setting options to suit their riding style. The throttle response, engine brake, ABS control and traction control, wheelie control (including the new ‘Power Wheelie’ setting) can be configured separately for the first time. While the part integral BMW Motorrad ABS systems already provide a very high degree of performance and safety when braking in a straight line, ABS Pro now takes this a step further to offer increased safety when braking in banking position as well.

The adventure tourer features the latest generation of BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) as standard. Thanks to the latest valve technology, the versatile adventure sports bike provides a particularly dynamic riding experience with a high level of ride comfort. For the first time in the BMW S 1000 XR, the dynamic brake assistant DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) also supports the rider during braking manoeuvres.

Further, MSR (Motorschleppmomentregelung) or dynamic engine break control electronically prevents the locking, slippage or hopping of the rear wheel that can result when the throttle is snapped shut or the during rider downshifts. MSR maximizes stability and safety of the BMW S 1000 XR by detecting rear wheel hopping in time and instantaneously equalize drag torque by opening the throttle valves. The anti-hopping clutch in combination with MSR offers best protection against engine braking torque influences and against dropping the bike.

The best-in-class 6.5- inch colour TFT screen instrument cluster along with BMW Motorrad connectivity offers unmatched display and access to information. In addition, the BMW Motorrad Connected App offers handy arrow based navigation suitable for day-to-day use directly on TFT screen. The multi-controller on the left hand handlebar panel enables quick, safe and convenient screen operation.

A wide range of retrofit equipment and gear options are available to further enhance the riding experience with a range of storage bags, backpacks, rider gear, navigation and communication. Customers can augment their bike with safety accessories such as radiator grille, hand protector, brake disk lock with antitheft alarm and protective glass for TFT screen. Quick maintenance at home or while touring is made easy with assembly stand, multifunctional tool kit, tyre pressure travel pack, breakdown assistance kit for tubeless tyres and compact foot pump.

Jio 5G Explained: What does the solution mean to Reliance and its users

Jio 5G

Reliance Industries CMD Mukesh Ambani Wednesday announced that the company’s telecom venture Jio has designed and developed from scratch, a complete indigenous 5G solution ready for deployment. The announcement, made at the company’s Annual General Meeting, will enable Jio to export 5G solutions to other telecom players globally, Ambani said.

Where does India stand on the deployment of 5G?
Companies, both telecom service providers and their equipment vendors, have completed lab trials of 5G network components but are yet to commence field trials, which were initially scheduled to happen last year. For the same, telecom companies are awaiting allocation of test spectrum from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The service providers have already tied up with equipment makers like Nokia, Ericsson, etc for deploying their 5G networks.

What does Jio’s 5G solution comprise?
Jio is said to have a complete end-to-end 5G solution prepared by the company itself that is ready for deployment once the networks are in place. This solution can also be deployed by other telecom operators as a complete managed service. When Reliance announced investment by American chipmaker Qualcomm into Jio, it had said that the investment will deepen the ties between Qualcomm and Jio Platforms, “to support Jio Platforms on its journey to rollout advanced 5G infrastructure and services for Indian customers”. Additionally, with Google’s partnership, Jio plans to develop affordable smartphones using an optimised Android-based operating system. Experts peg that developing an Android 5G app ecosystem focused on emerging markets would also be an area of focus for Google from a medium-term perspective.

Rhea Chakraborty requests Amit Shah for CBI inquiry into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death

Rhea Chakraborty

Actor Rhea Chakraborty on Thursday requested Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI enquiry into actor, boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, saying she wanted to understand the circumstances which prompted him to take the extreme step.

Sushant died by suicide on June 14 at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. While the late actor’s fans have been demanding a CBI enquiry for weeks now, this is the first time Rhea has spoken about it. In her social media posts, the actor also acknowledged her romantic relationship with Sushant, something that she had been mum about for a long time now.

Sharing a photo of Sushant Singh Rajput on her Instagram page, Rhea Chakraborty wrote, “Respected @AmitShah sir, I’m Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty. It is now over a month since his sudden demise. I have complete faith in the government, however in the interest of justice, I request you with folded hands to initiate a CBI enquiry into this matter.”

“I only want to understand what pressures, prompted Sushant to take this step. Yours sincerely, Rhea Chakraborty. #satyamevajayate @AmitShah sir,” she added.

In the morning, Rhea Chakraborty requested the cyber crime cell to take action against an Instagram user for issuing a rape and murder threat. Rhea has been at the receiving end of incessant online hate and abuse since Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, with many blaming her for his suicide. The hate comments prompted her to disable comments on her Instagram page. Fans also criticised the 28-year-old for remaining silent about his death.

On the one month death anniversary of Sushant on July 14, Rhea opened about him in an Instagram post, remembering him as someone who made her believe in love.

“You are the one who made me believe in love, the power of it. You taught me how a simple mathematical equation can decipher the meaning of life and I promise you that I learnt from you every day. I will never come to terms with you not being here anymore,” read an excerpt from her long, moving note.

Text of PM’s address on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day

Skills Day

World Youth Skill Day

Friends.

Skill is something which we gift to ourselves, which grows with experience. Skill is timeless, it keeps getting better with time. Skill is unique, it makes you different from others. Skill is a treasure that nobody can take away. And, skill is self- reliance, it not only makes one employable but also self- employable.

Indian Railways creates POST COVID COACH to ensure safer journey

Indian Railways

Indian Railways has taken numerous steps and measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus infection. Sustaining the ruthless fight against COVID-19, Indian Railways’ production unit, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, has developed a Post Covid Coach to fight Covid 19. This Post Covid Coach has design improvements in the coach like handsfree amenities, copper-coated handrails & latches, plasma air purification and titanium dioxide coating for Covid free passenger journey.

Following are the salient features of the Post Covid Coach:

1. Handsfree amenities: Post Covid Coach is having handsfree amenities like foot operated water tap & soap dispenser, foot operated lavatory door (outside), foot operated flush valve, foot operated latches in lavatory door, outside washbasin with foot operated water tap and soap dispenser and forearm operated handle on compartment door.

2. Copper-coated handrails & latches: Post Covid Coach equipped with copper-coated handrails & latches because copper degrades the virus landed on it within few hours. Copper has anti microbial properties. When virus lands on copper, Ion blasts pathogen and destroy the DNA and RNA inside the virus.

3. Plasma air purification: Post Covid Coach is having provision of plasma air equipment in AC duct. This plasma air equipment will sterilize the air and surfaces inside the AC coach using ionised air to make the coach Covid-19 and particulate matter resistant. This provision will also improve the ion concentration from 100 ions/cm3 to more than 6000 ions/cm.

4. Titanium Di-oxide coating: Post Covid Coach is having Titanium Di-oxide coating in the coach. Nano structured Titanium Dioxide Coating functions as photoactive material. This is a eco-friendly water-based coating that kills viruses, bacteria, mould, and fungal growth and most importantly enhances indoor air quality. It is non-toxic and approved by food testing laboratory of the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA), CE certified. TiO2 is considered to be a safe substance and is harmless to humans. This Titanium Di-oxide coating applied on washbasins, lavatory, seats & berths, snack table, glass window, floor, virtually every surface that comes in human contact. Effective life of this coating is 12 months.

Experts Explain: The case for using hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19

hydroxychloroquine

The usefulness of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in Covid-19 has been controversial, without clarity or clear evidence one way or the other, until very recently. A study on more than 2,500 patients in six units under the Henry Ford Hospitals group in Detroit, Michigan, USA, peer-reviewed, accepted and ready for publication in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, has found good evidence that HCQ reduces Covid-19 mortality significantly. It should be noted that conditions apply.

HCQ has been widely used as a drug to treat malaria and to prevent malaria in travellers to malaria-endemic zones, for decades. Once its anti-inflammatory and immune suppressant properties were identified, it began to be used the world over in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. In fact, in developed countries without malaria, it is widely but almost exclusively used by rheumatologists. The side-effect profile has been well characterised and protocols for monitoring side effects are taught in all medical colleges. The drug has withstood the test of time.

When the chikungunya pandemic seeded epidemics in various states in India during 2002 through 2006, many patients in the post-chikungunya-fever phase developed persistent and disabling large joint pain and swelling, lasting months to years. HCQ came to their rescue and physicians have been using it with remarkable success, but with all due precautions.

HCQ in Covid pandemic

The story of HCQ and Covid-19 began in Wuhan, China, where patients who were on HCQ, attending rheumatology clinics, seemed to be relatively protected from serious Covid-19 than those attending other clinics. Looking for possible treatment options, Chinese physicians stumbled on HCQ . So they began using HCQ empirically for treating Covid-19.

French physicians, familiar with HCQ used against an endemic bacterial disease called Q fever, followed up with scientific studies for seeking objective evidence for HCQ use in Covid-19. There was laboratory evidence that HCQ acts against SARS coronavirus type 1 and, more recently, also against type 2 that causes Covid-19. The French reported that HCQ reduced both the viral load and duration of virus shedding in the upper respiratory tract of Covid-19 patients. That paved the way for global use of the drug for Covid-19, with believers and sceptics raising a cacophony of controversies. Adding fuel to the fire, indiscriminate use without due precautions, over-dosing, and prolonged usage resulted in many adverse side effects described in the books, even deaths. So the pendulum swung away from its use in many countries.

In the US, rheumatologists were unhappy because of shortage of HCQ for the legitimate needs of their patients, on account of heavy demand for the drug to prevent and treat Covid-19 — based more on empiricism than evidence. India, the world’s largest producer of HCQ, exported huge supplies of the drug to the US and Brazil in April.

There was a widespread clamour for controlled clinical trials. There was the Recovery trial in the UK and the Veterans Administration trial in the US, both on seriously ill Covid-19 patients. HCQ did not reduce mortality and the pendulum swung against HCQ use in Covid-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) had the Solidarity trial with HCQ in one arm. A scientific paper on a large number of patients, published in The Lancet, reported an unacceptable frequency of serious HCQ side-effects, based on which WHO hastily withdrew it from the study. Within days, it became evident that the Lancet article was based on doubtful data and the journal withdrew the article with alacrity. Immediately WHO made a volte face and re-introduced HCQ in the Solidarity trial, only to withdraw it soon after the UK Recovery trial showed lack of benefits with the drug.

The Detroit study on Covid-19 patients aged 18 to 76, the majority with co-morbidities, was protocol-driven. In one group a short course of HCQ was started early, preferably on the first or latest second day of hospitalisation. In order to avoid serious side effects, the drug regimen was short – 400 mg twice on day one, followed by 200 mg twice daily for four more days. Corticosteroids were used as adjunct therapy in a proportion of patients in both groups. The in-hospital mortality for Covid-19 was 26.4 per cent in those not given HCQ, reduced to 13.5 per cent in the HCQ-treated group.

The Detroit study has swung the pendulum all the way back, favourable to HCQ use in Covid-19. If the scientific evidence from France was for reduction of viral load in the upper respiratory tract, was it not likely that it reflected a reduction of viral load in all other infected body tissues also? When should the viral load be reduced – late in the course of disease or early? Does it not make sense to use the drug early and not late?

NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog presented India’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the United Nations High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, 2020. The HLPF is the foremost international platform for follow-up and review of progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, presented the VNR. The India VNR 2020 report titled Decade of Action: Taking SDGs from Global to Local was released by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, Dr V.K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, and Smt. Sanyukta Samaddar, Adviser (SDGs), NITI Aayog. At the HLPF this year, which is being hosted virtually in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, 47 Member States are set to present their VNRs between 10th-16th July 2020.

The HLPF meets annually in July for eight days under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the UN. The VNRs presented by Member States at the HLPF are a critical component of the review of progress and implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. The reviews are voluntary and state-led and are aimed at facilitating the sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned. The process of preparation of a country’s VNR provides a platform for partnerships, including through the participation of various relevant stakeholders. NITI Aayog prepared and presented India’s first VNR in 2017.

India VNR 2020

India presented its VNR along with other second time presenters like Bangladesh, Georgia, Kenya, Morocco, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria and Uganda. The presentation also included a short film which encapsulated the processual aspects of the second VNR and captured some of India’s major progress areas on the SDGs.

In his opening remarks, Dr Rajiv Kumar expressed his solidarity with all the countries which were grappling with challenges brought about by the pandemic, andemic, while highlighting the key features of India’s response to the pandemic under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat campaign. “We should all obliterate all divisions and distinctions amongst us and come together to try and convert the prevailing situation into an opportunity for accelerating our progress towards achieving the SDG targets”, said the Vice Chairman in his statement.

In his statement, Dr Kumar presented the efforts towards ensuring no one is left behind. He also dwelt on the remarkable progress India has achieved in reducing multidimensional poverty, providing food safety, ensuring education for all, universalising access to electricity, clean cooking fuel and sanitation, while also operationalising the world’s largest health insurance programme by covering 500 million citizens.

“We are deeply committed to building on existing efforts and undertake newer initiatives to accelerate progress on the SDG targets for long term transformation. In this endeavour, peer learning and knowledge sharing will play a key role -which we are actively fostering among States and Union Territories”, said Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog

India’s VNR this year has undertaken a paradigm shift in terms of embodying a “whole-of-society” approach in letter and spirit. NITI Aayog engaged with sub-national and local governments, civil society organizations, local communities, people in vulnerable situations and the private sector. As part of this process, NITI Aayog partnered with UN in India and Civil Society Organisations to curate a consultative process which saw more than 50 national and sub-national consultations with over 1000 CSOs from fourteen population groups including women, children, elderly, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), People Living with HIV (PLHIV), among others .

“The role of international cooperation is more critical than ever before”, observed the Vice Chairman. He highlighted the leading role India has been playing in promoting global engagement platforms such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA), the Coalition for Disaster Resilience Infrastructure (CDRI), and the active participation in implementing the Sendai Framework, UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The presentation was followed by an interactive segment where Member States such as Ecuador and Bangladesh, and Civil Society Organisations put forth questions pertaining to areas of renewable energy, financial inclusion, and the Government’s future engagement strategy, respectively.

Decade of Action: Taking SDGs from Global to Local

The India VNR 2020 report was also unveiled during this event. The report is a comprehensive account of the adoption and implementation of the 2030 Agenda in India. Apart from presenting a review of progress on the 17 SDGs, the report discusses at length the policy and enabling environment, India’s approach to localising SDGs, and strengthening means of implementation.

The report also includes a chapter which draws from the rich body of data, knowledge and analysis that emanated from the CSO led community-centric consultations, which took place across the length and breadth of the country. The chapter presents a summary of the key concerns and the recommendations voiced by the stakeholders from civil society, non-governmental and community organisations. Similarly, the segment on business integration highlights the important role which businesses and the private sector are envisaged to have in the decade of action.

Leveraging science, technology and innovation for SDGs, and costing and financing of SDGs are the two levers of strengthening means of implementation which have been introduced this year.

In line with the theme of Taking SDGs from Global to Local, the goal-wise account of progress on the SDGs has been appended with examples of a range of diverse good practices and success stories of interventions from the States, especially Aspirational Districts.

NITI Aayog has the mandate of overseeing the adoption and monitoring of SDGs at the national and sub-national level. The India VNR 2020 represents NITI Aayog’s efforts in embodying the whole-of-society approach and its commitment towards localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Surgeons led by Indian-origin doctor perform double lung transplant on second Covid-19 patient

Surgeons

Surgeons led by an Indian-origin doctor have performed a double-lung transplant on a second patient whose lungs were damaged by COVID-19, within a month after the same team conducted what is believed to have been the first such surgery in the US.

The patient, an Illinois man in his 60s, spent 100 days on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a life support machine that does the work of the heart and lungs.

He received the transplant last weekend at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, the hospital said in a statement.

“This procedure capped an extremely busy holiday weekend for our transplant team. We worked around the clock, performing multiple transplants on non-COVID patients before accepting new lungs for this COVID-19 survivor,” said Dr Ankit Bharat, chief of thoracic surgery and surgical director of the Northwestern Medicine Lung Transplant Programme, who performed seven lung transplants in seven days.

“Performing back to back lung transplants on such complex patients is demanding work and I’m extremely proud of our team’s dedication. It’s a testament to the infrastructure and expertise of Northwestern Medicine’s Lung Transplant Programme,” the Meerut-born doctor said.

The patient contracted COVID-19 in late March and received the majority of his treatment at another health system before being transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for consideration of a double-lung transplant.

Within 72 hours of being listed, the life-saving procedure was performed on July 4.

Before the patient’s name was added to the transplant wait-list, he had to test negative for COVID-19.

“Coincidentally, the transplant happened to be on the 100th day of ECMO support. Being on ECMO and separated from the ventilator allowed the patient to participate in daily bedside rehabilitation which is important for lung transplantation,” said Dr Bharat.
Typically, a double-lung transplant takes 6 to 7 hours, but this surgery took about 10 hours due to lung necrosis and severe inflammation in the chest cavities resulting from COVID-19.

“Prior to his arrival at Northwestern Memorial, the patient developed an invasive infection which required a major chest surgery. This was going to make the double-lung transplant substantially more difficult,” says Samuel Kim, MD, Northwestern Medicine thoracic surgeon, who assisted in the double-lung transplant alongside Dr Bharat. “His lung damage was among the worst I’ve ever seen. When we opened the chest cavity there was a lot of evidence of infection; everything we touched or dissected started bleeding and one misstep could have led to catastrophic consequences.”

Northwestern surgeons led by Dr Bharat in June have performed what is believed to have been the first-known lung transplant on a COVID-19 patient in the US last month — on a woman in her 20s.

The surgeons performed their first on a woman in her 20s whose lungs showed irreversible damage from the virus.

She became the first known COVID-19 patient in the United States to receive a double-lung transplant.

“Our first patient continues to recover at an optimal pace,” says Rade Tomic, MD, a pulmonologist and medical director of the Lung Transplant Programme. “Our second patient is already off the ventilator and is talking to his family. He’s grateful for the care he received from all the health care providers, including those at his original hospital, who helped him get to this point. We’re optimistic that both patients will make a full recovery and return to their daily lives.”

Sony SAB’s Maddam Sir cast salute the spirit of real-life policewomen

Maddam sir

Earlier this year, Sony SAB launched ‘Maddam Sir’, a show which addresses social issues through the eyes of four dynamic women police officers taking every challenge as it comes and solving cases with jazbaat i.e policing with a heart. The show features Gulki Joshi as S.H.O Haseena Mallik and Yukti Kapoor known as Sub Inspector Karishma Singh along with Sonali Naik as Head Constable Pushpa and Bhavika Sharma as Constable Santosh.

Taking a cue from the challenges presented to them in their reel-life as the Maddam Sir team, the actresses had an exclusive tête-à-têtewith real life women police officers. The cast even discussed nuances of being able to successfully represent policewomen on-screen and took this opportunity to thank the real-life women police officers for their contribution towards our safety and well-being during this challenging phase

Gulki Joshi aka S.H.O Haseena Mallik:

“When I wore the prestigious uniform during my audition for Maddam Sir, I didn’t know if I will get the role but getting the mere opportunity to wear a police officer’s uniform filled me with such pride. I was ecstatic when I got the role of Haseena Mallik, but with that came the responsibility to do justice to this role and represent our heroes with immense respect. These past few months have filled me with so much gratitude towards the police force and witnessing their relentless and courageous efforts towards keeping the society safe by putting themselves on the frontline. I am so proud to have the opportunity to represent such a force and I want to salute the Police force for their unparalleled contribution. They have truly defined the words – Kuch Baat Hain Kyunki Jazbaat Hain.”

Yukti Kapoor also known as Sub Inspector Karishma Singh

“I have immense gratitude and respect for our police forces around the country and this phase has personified their wholehearted dedication towards us as a society. The only reason we are at home, safe under a shelter is because of them fighting at the frontline to keep everything in place and ensuring people are safe. They have been away from their families and have been risking their lives to save ours and I will always be grateful to the entire Police force for their contribution. I am extremely proud to have an opportunity to play the role of a police officer in Maddam Sir. Our show celebrates policing with heart and these past months have reflected the same on a larger scale. I thank every police officer in our country for their selfless contribution and I salute their Jazbaat and courage.”

Sonali Naik who is better known as Head Constable Pushpa Singh

“Would like to thank the entire team of Sony SAB to make this event possible. Grateful to the women police officers who could be with us today despite their busy schedule. Nothing makes me proud than having this opportunity to learn and personally thank the police officers for their efforts during these challenging times.”

Bhavika Sharma aka ‘Sassy’ Santosh

“I am the youngest in the Mahila Police Station here and I could not have had a better experience than this. While in the show I have always sought inspiration from Haseena and Karishma, today I had an opportunity to seek inspiration from real-life women police officers who are working towards keeping us safe.”

#SwitchOnSAB and watch Maddam Sir solve cases with jazbaat, every Monday – Friday from 13th July onwards at 10pm only on Sony SAB

Google removes 11 apps from Play store infected with Joker malware; uninstall them now

play store

Late last year we saw the Joker malware surface and spread like wildfire. The latest report from Check Point’s researchers has discovered a new variant of the Joker Dropper and Premium Dialer spyware in the Google Play Store. These were found hiding inside of seemingly legitimate applications. This new updated Joker malware can download additional malware to the device, which in turn subscribes the victim to a number of premium services without their consent.

Meantime, Google has removed 11 apps from the Play Store infected with the notorious Joker malware. The applications include include com.imagecompress.android, com.relax.relaxation.androidsms, com.cheery.message.sendsms (two different instances), com.peason.lovinglovemessage, com.contact.withme.texts, com.hmvoice.friendsms, com.file.recovefiles, com.LPlocker.lockapps, com.remindme.alram and com.training.memorygame.

Joker malware: Everything you need to know
The researchers have said that with small changes to its code the Joker malware to get past the Play store security and vetting barriers. This time along the Joker malware has adopted an old technique from the conventional PC threat landscape to avoid detection by Google. The newly modified Joker virus uses two main components to subscribe, app users to premium services. These components are: Notification Listener service and dynamic dex file loaded from the C&C server.

To minimize the Joker’s code, the developer hid the code by dynamically loading it onto a dex file, while at the same time, ensuring that it is able to completely load when triggered. The code inside of the dex file is encoded as Base64 encoded strings, that start decoding and loading as soon as the victim opens the affected apps.

The original Joker malware communicated with the C&C, and then downloaded the dynamic dex file, which was loaded as cases.dex. However, the new modified version of the code is embedded in a different zone, with the classes.dex file loading a new payload. The malware is triggered by creating a new object that communicates with the C&C.

“The new method is much more complex compared to the process of the original Joker malware. It requires for one .dex file to read a manifest file and then start decoding the payload. After the payload is decoded, it then loads a new .dex file and then infects the device,” Lalit Wadhwa, an Android app developer at Jungle Works told indianexpress.com.

According to the Check Point report, the Base64 strings were located inside an internal class, instead of being added into the Manifest file. This means that the malicious code only needed the device to read the strings, decode them and then load the reflection to infect.

Joker malware: What it does, which all apps are infected and how to fix it

Due to the payload being hidden in Base 64 strings, the only thing that the actor needed to do to hide the file was to set the C&C server to return “false” on the status code, if tests were being run.

Check Point recommends you to check all your apps thoroughly and see if they are from a non-trusted developer. If you feel that you have downloaded an infected file, you should immediately uninstall it. Then you should check your mobile and credit card bills for any irregularities. If there are any talk to the bank and unsubscribe to those charges. Lastly, it is recommended that users should install an anti-virus program on their smartphones to prevent infections.

CBSE Class 10, 12 results 2020: Timeline of what has happened so far

CBSE

CBSE Class 10, 12 results 2020: In what seems to be a first, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently cancelled the board examinations, taking note of the situation prevailing due to the coronavirus pandemic. The CBSE class 10, 12 students will now get their results by July 15, under a special scheme.

The COVID-19 outbreak not only hampered this year’s academic schedule but also had an impact on the coming academic year. With schools shut and lesser instructional hours for teachers, the board has reduced the syllabus for the 2021 batch.

For classes 9 to 12 the syllabus has been reduced by 30 per cent, while for classes 8 and below, CBSE-affiliated schools will have the freedom to rationalise the syllabus on their own. The CBSE has come up with a new marking scheme to evaluate students, in place of holding exams. For classes 1 to 8, students will be promoted to the next class without exams.

CBSE Class 10, 12 exams 2020: Timeline
February: CBSE exams postponed due to North East Delhi violence

Before the lockdown was imposed, it was the North East Delhi riot which hampered examinations and led to postponement of several papers of class 10, 12 at Maujpur-Babarpur areas. Though the board decided to conduct the pending exams later, however, it was then cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, a total of 30,96,771 students appeared for the board exams that began from February 15.

March: COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown

A week before the lockdown was announced, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the class 10, 12 exams which were postponed on March 18. The board initially deferred the ongoing exams from March 19 to 31.

April: Board exams for major subjects

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in April announced that not all exams will be re-conducted for students of class 10 and 12 students. The board said the exams will be held for as many as 29 subjects only. Of 40-odd cancelled exams, only those papers were to be re-conducted, which were significant for admission to colleges, while the rest were to be evaluated internally.

The questions left unanswered: ‘links’ with police, politicians

vikas dubey

After the failed police raid on July 3, questions were raised about gangster Vikas Dubey’s alleged links with some in the police department, as well as politicians across parties. These questions will remain unanswered now.

In a purported video circulated on social media, Dubey is heard naming two BJP MLAs, and saying that he has links with them and some other local party leaders. Photographs of Dubey with a senior Congress leader also surfaced on social media

There were also photographs of a local businessman in Kanpur, who was allegedly Dubey’s close aide and handled his finances, with former Kanpur SSP Anant Deo Tiwari. This businessman, who once owned a tea shop, is now in police custody.

On July 7, Tiwari was transferred to the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Moradabad sector, following reports of a purported letter written to him by Deputy SP Devendra Kumar Mishra on the alleged links between Dubey and a local police station head. Mishra was among the eight policemen killed in the raid in Bikru village on July 3. The reported letter, which also warned of a serious incident, could not be found in official records.

The station officer of Chaubepur, Vinay Tiwari, and Sub-Inspector Krishna Kumar Sharma, who are suspected to have tipped off Dubey on the raid to arrest him, have been arrested on charges of conspiracy. Earlier this week, all the 68 personnel posted at the Chaubepur police station were removed.

Besides the local Chaubepur police station, Dubey was also reported to have links with police personnel at the Shivrajpur, Bilhaur and Bithoor police stations in Kanpur Nagar and Shivli police station in Kanpur Dehat.

In 2001, he is alleged to have chased a BJP leader, Santosh Shukla, who then had minister of state rank in UP, inside Shivli police station and shot him dead in broad daylight. The licence of the rifle which he allegedly used has not been cancelled till date. Four years later, Dubey was acquitted; the gunner and personal staff of the murdered man gave statements in Dubey’s favour.

The 62 cases against Dubey, including five cases of murder and eight cases of attempt to murder, are not mentioned in ‘Register No. 8’ — a log of all cases — at the Chaubepur police station. And despite the cases against him, Dubey, history sheeter number 149-A at Chaubepur police station, was never listed among the top 25 criminals in the state.

Psoriasis injection okayed for limited use to treat Covid-19 patients: Drug controller

Itolizumab

India’s drug regulator has approved Itolizumab, used to cure skin ailment psoriasis, for restricted emergency use on COVID-19 patients with moderate to severe acute respiratory distress, officials said.

Considering the unmet medical needs to treat COVID-19, Drugs Controller General of India Dr V G Somani approved monoclonal antibody injection Itolizumab for restricted emergency use for the treatment of ‘cytokine’ release syndrome in moderate to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome patients due to COVID-19, they said on Friday.

“The approval was given after its clinical trials on COVID-19 patients in India was found satisfactory by the expert committee comprising pulmonologists, pharmacologists and medicine experts from AIIMS, among others, for treatment of cytokine release syndrome,” an official told PTI.

“It is already an approved drug of Biocon for treating psoriasis for last many years,” the official said.

Written informed consent of each patient is required before the use of this drug, he said.
