IMD issues an Orange Alert in Nagpur as well as other areas of Vidarbha on July 8th, 9

Nagpur The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, has issued an orange alert to Nagpur, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Amravati and Akola for July 8 and 9. It has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rain in isolated areas in these districts during this time.

In light of the torrential rain and heavy rainfall, 8 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed. Of these, five teams are located in Mumbai and one within Nagpur, Chiplun and Malad. With the need to be alert the chief minister Eknath Shinde urged District Collectors of the district to make the necessary precautions and to be vigilant and manage the situation.

According to IMD According to IMD, The Low Pressure Area is now located over the central part of Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood with the cyclonic circulation associated all the way to mid tropospheric level which are moving southwestwards in line with the height. The monsoon trough also active and located to the south of its normal location. A trough that is offshore at sea level extends across Gujarat coast up to Maharashtra coast. They are a source of frequent or widespread rain with lightning and thunderstorms likely to occur over Vidarbha, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in the coming 5 days.

Over the past 24-hours, Yavatmal (101 mm) was the most three-digit rainfall. It was followed by Akola (42 millimeters), Amravati (49.4 mm), Buldhana (11 mm), Bramhapuri (45.4 mm), Chandrapur (26.8 mm), Gadchiroli (68 mm), Gondia (67 mm), Nagpur (28 mm), Wardha (78.6 mm) and Washim (18.8 mm) were also hit with rain with double digits during the over the last 24 hours.
