IGNOU’s Nagpur Regional Centre is best in country

Nagpur : Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has adjudged its Nagpur Regional Centre as the Best in the country. Nagpur Regional Centre received Best Services Gold Medal and Certificate during the recently held 32nd Convocation where M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President of India was the chief guest.

A special committee was constituted to analyse the performances of all the 56 Regional Centres in the country and based on its recommendation the IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Prof Nageshwar Rao approved the name of Nagpur Regional Centre for the Best Services Award. Dr P Sivaswaroop, Regional Director, IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre received the Gold Medal at the hands of the Vice-President of India at New Delhi.

On this occasion, Dr Sivaswaroop said, “This is the success of the dedicated and committed services rendered by all the functionaries including academic counsellors, study centre functionaries like Coordinators, Programme Incharges, Assistant Coordinators, Assistant Programme Incharges, Assistants and the staff at Regional Centre.” IGNOU is the largest Open University in the World with more than 32 lakh students spread across India and globe.

To provide effective student support services to the students, IGNOU has established 56 Regional Centres at various cities across the country. Every year IGNOU evaluates the performance of the Regional Centres which are supposed to educate the people especially unreached sections about distance education method and motivate people towards higher education. Team that assesses also sees to it whether the centres study local conditions in the region and ensure quality education to the desiring people nearest to their place of residence. The Regional Centre activities include identifying proper institutions and academic counsellors with appropriate qualification and monitor the classes, conducting examinations, etc.

After studying all these aspects Nagpur Regional Centre was found to be very much pro-active so the committee endorsed the name of Nagpur Regional Centre.
