Nagpur : Gangs of chain snatchers had a field day in city as they robbed five women of gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 2.5 lakh. A rising number of chain-snatching cases has left citizens worried as a total of seven chain-snatching incidents were reported with 72 hours and cops literally failed to identify the accused. Two chain-snatchings were reported in Sitabuldi and Mankapur area on Saturday. An old-aged woman was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 35,000 by a bike-borne robber near Alankar Talkies square in Sitabuldi area on Saturday night.
Archana Biharilal Shrivastava (64) was heading towards Jhanshi Rani Square from Alankar Talkies square on her moped at 7.45 pm. She did not notice two motorcycle-borne miscreants following her and within seconds, her gold chain was yanked away from her and they sped away. Archana was shocked after the robbery and failed to raise an alarm. Sitabuldi police have registered the case under Section 392 of Indian Penal Code. In another case, two bike-borne robbers looted gold chain managalsutra worth Rs 15,000 of a middle-aged woman in front of her house in Mankapur area in the early hours of Saturday. The robbers came on a motorcycle and approached Yamu Sudhakar Lahane (55), a resident of Plot No. 35, Bajrang Nagar, Koradi Road, when she was sweeping the courtyard at 5.30 pm.
On the pretext of inquiring an address, the goons snatched her mangalsutra and sped away from the spot. Yamu was shocked after incident as apart from financial loss, emotionally it was very tough for any woman to recover from such incident. Mankapur police have registered the case under Sections 392 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. The police are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused. The robbers also targeted Rajlaxmi Narendra Sainani (41), a resident of Plot No. 19, Maitri Row House, Mhada Colony, Mankpuar, when she was about to board in her car at Anooj Dairy and Bakery. She told the police that the robbers came on a bike and snatched her gold chain worth Rs 22,000. Mankapur police have registered the case under Sections 392 and 34 of IPC. Rana Pratap Nagar: A bike-borne youth robbed an old-aged woman of her gold mangalsutra worth Rs 40,000 in front of her house at Trimutri Nagar on Sunday morning. Kumud Namdeorao Raut (68), a resident of Plot No. 6/A, Bhange Vihar, Trimurti Nagar, was sweeping the courtyard at 8.10 am.
The youth came on a motorcycle and snatched her mangalsutra. The woman fell on the ground in an attempt to save the mangalsutra. Before she could raise an alarm, the robber sped away from the spot. Rana Pratap Nagar police have registered the case under Section 392 of IBC Ganeshpeth: Vidya Pramod Choudhary (41) was robbed by two youths when she was going to drop her daughter to the school. The robbery took place near Gujrati Hotel in Ganeshpeth Police Station area on Sunday morning. Vidya, a resident of Flat No. 203, Wing No. 3, Rahul Complex, was heading towards Sitabudli on moped while her daughter was riding pillion at 7.25 am.
The robbers came on a Hero Maestro moped and robbed Vidya of her gold chain. Ganeshpeth police have registered the case under Sections 392 and 34 of IPC. Acting swiftly, cops arrested two youths namely Ashish Pandey (30), a resident of Pension Nagar and son of Retd policeman Loknarayan Pandey, and Abdul Junaid (30), a resident of Mahesh Nagar, Gittikhadan.
