Nagpur: As the day for drawing lots to reserve wards for women Corporators for the upcoming Nagpur Municipal (NMC) election was coming nearer, the present and former office bearers cum veteran Corporators were a worried lot. But as soon as the reservation process was over, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Everyone in general got opportunities to contest the next elections. Especially Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, former Mayor Sandeep Joshi, Ruling Party leader Avinash Thakre, Opposition Leader Tanaji Vanve, Ballya Borkar, Bunty Kukde, Dharampal Meshram and almost all other office-bearers are included.
In Hansapuri Ward 23 of Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, two out of three seats are reserved for women. Third place is for the general category. Former Mayor Sandeep Joshi’s Laxminagar Ward number 40 has two general and one female and all three seats are for open category. In Ward number 30 of Leader of Opposition Tanaji Vanve, one seat is reserved for general and two seats are reserved for women.
In Ward 52 of former Ruling Party Leader Avinash Thakre, two women and one seat are open to all. In the Ward No. 26 of former Standing Committee Chairman Balya Borkar, two seats were reserved for the general candidates and one for women. In ward number 29 of Bunty Kukde, two women and one seat are open to all. The old ward of former Deputy Mayor Satish Hole is divided into two parts. There are two (one scheduled caste and one open) and one seat reserved for women in Somwari Quarter Ward No. 46 of Raghujinagar.
Former Corporator Prashant Dhawad’s three seats in Ward number 30 are for the open category. This includes two women. In Ward 27, one seat is for the open category and two seats are for women. NCP City President Duneshwar Pethe is included in this ward.
Dharampal Meshram may have to jump in the electoral battle from Prabhag 28. Meshram did a lot of work in Wathoda, Bhandewadi and Pardi and was focusing on fighting from this area. In this ward one seat is reserved for SC.
