Wockhardt Hospital fined Rs 75,000 for disposing Of bio-medical waste

Nagpur: The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on Wockhardt Hospital, Shankar Nagar, for disposing of biomedical waste along with regular garbage.

The hospital has been fined for violating Bio-Medical Waste Management (BWM) Rules which state that hospital waste should be disposed of in a scientific manner. On Saturday, the hospital was found handing over the biowaste with solid waste in a garbage collecting vehicle.

Acting on a tip-off, the NDS carried out a raid following directives of the Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Dharampeth Zone. The NDS team imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on the hospital.

According to NMC, if the hospital management is found repeating the act, the fine amount will be revised.
