Valediction of Orientation Programme “Uttarayan 2018” for newly promoted ACsIT

Nagpur : The Valediction Ceremony for the Orientation Programme “Uttarayan 2018” for the newly promoted Assistant Commissioners of Income Tax (ACsIT) was held at National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur on Wednesday, 18 th of July, 2018. Air Vice Marshal Manavendra Singh, AVSM VrC VSM, was the Chief Guest for the function.
As many as 172 newly promoted ACsIT have completed their Orientation

Training of eight weeks at NADT and will now return to their field postings to play
their part in the administration of tax in India. At the outset, Dr P.S. Puniha, Principal Director General, NADT in his address, welcomed the Chief Guest and brought out that tax evasion is no more an individual effort but one which involves many to meet this objective .

To counter this tax evasion officers passing out need to work together in a collaborative manner as it is only through such work that success would be achieved. Highlighting the necessity of continuing and building upon the camaraderie that the officers developed during their stay at NADT he exhorted them to maintain this team spirit all through their career as it will hold them in good stead – individually and in the performance of their work.

Ms Nausheen J. Ansari, Addl. Director General (Training)-2, NADT, presented an overview of the Orientation Programme. She stated that considering the long and varied field experience of the officer trainees and their exposure to Income Tax, the training programme was so designed as to emphasise more upon imparting of knowledge of allied laws, modern accounting software, digital forensics, forensic accounting, soft skills and personality development through management modules, exposure to financial markets and techniques of investigation particularly in the areas in which the trainees had no exposure, such as International Taxation/Transfer Pricing, assessment of search cases etc.

She apprised the house that under the leadership and guidance of Pr. DG (Training.), NADT, for the first time in this batch collaborative learning received great emphasis and accordingly the collaborative learning project came into being. In this project, theofficer trainees of the Induction Batch i.e. the 71 st batch of IRS and those of the orientation programme worked together on a problem bringing youth and experience together on the same platform. This provided the opportunity for all trainees to work together in groups and to better understand one another’s strengths and how working together helps in multiplying the strength rather than merely adding on to it.

She also informed that an International Attachment is also a part of the Orientation programme to give exposure of International Tax Administration systems and best practices to the trainees, which is expected to take place in near future. At the outset, the Chief Guest, Air Vice Marshal Manavendra Sigh, AVSM VrC VSM underlined the importance of learning and state that learning never stops. He further stated that tax administration is an onerous task as it is and far greater challenges lay ahead for the tax administrators of this country as the economy grows with time.

He stated that while the armed forces guard the nation, the tax administrators do their bit in leading the nation to the path of growth and prosperity. He said that this way both these forces invest themselves in the idea called India.

He exhorted the outgoing officers to put in their best efforts to increase the narrow tax base of the country. He also advised the officers to grow into a much more taxpayer friendly workforce.The Chief Guest concluded his address by extendinghis best wishes to the officers who embark to serve the nation and exhorted them to put in their best efforts to accomplish tasksassigned by seeing them through to the very end. Ms Leena Srivastava ADG( Trg)-3 administered the Tax Administrators prayer to the Officer Trainees. Shri V. Roy Jose, Addl. Director and the Course Director of the training programme proposed the formal vote of thanks. The function concluded with National Anthem.
