State Congress invites Rahul Gandhi to attend Nagpur rally winter session

Date:

Nagpur: Ashok Chavan, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president, on Wednesday invited party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to attend its December 12 rally in Nagpur during the State Assembly’s winter session.

Congress sources said that Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar is also likely to attend the joint opposition rally.

A senior Congress leader said, “He [Ashok Chavan] has spoken to Rahul Gandhi and invited him to the rally. His presence would encourage the party workers and we hope he can spare some time from the Gujarat election campaign.”

Earlier, the NCP and the Congress had planned to take out separate rallies outside the Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur on December 11 and December 13 respectively. The parties wanted to protest against the State government’s anti-farmer policies and its failure to implement a complete farm loan waiver.

If the joint rally goes according to plan, Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Pawar would be sharing the stage at a protest rally for the first time.

The Congress leader said, “Mr. Gandhi is all set to become the president of our party and his presence at the rally will boost the morale of the party cadre in Vidarbha.”
