Nagpur : A group of sand-mafia on Tuesday attempted to kill three officials of Revenue Department including a Naib Tehsildar in Nandanvana area. According to police, Naib Tehsildar Sunil Salwe, Circle Officers H P Maliye (Sitabuldi) and Mukunda Madavi (Pardi) were conducting a special drive against illegal transportation of sand in Nandanvan area in the morning hours. The officials stopped two trucks (MH-40/AK-8056 and MH-36/F-4157) at Wathoda Ring Road and shot the video of the trucks. When they asked the truck drivers for royalty papers and driving licenses, the drivers picked up a quarrel with them. Meanwhile, a Mercedes MH-41/AA-8100) car came behind and stopped near the trucks.
The car driver suddenly accelerated the car and attempted to mow down the officials on-duty. However, the officials managed to save themselves. The car again returned to the spot and asked the truck drivers to move away from the spot without showing any papers to the officials. The Revenue Department officials claimed that the occupants in the car were sand-mafia and they created scene at the spot. The car driver with the occupants fled towards Pardi after some time. The officials also tried to chase the car but driver successfully managed to flee the spot. A police official said that the car was registered in the name of one Kavita.
The officials then reached Nandanvan Police Station and lodge a complaint. Nandanvan police are investigating the case. Whilte taking serious cognisance, District Collector Ashwin Mudgal directed the officials to register a police complaint while asserting that such attacks against government staffers would not be tolerated. He promised stern action against the sand-mafia and resolved to continue the crackdown against illegal sand mining.
