Indian Premier League 2018: ‘Best Vs Best’ Anthem Launched In Five Languages

Indian Premier League

New Delhi: The 11th edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League is going to start from April 7 with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings.

Prior to the prestigious T20 cricket league, IPL launched its anthem for the 2018 edition on Monday.

The anthem has been released in five languages — Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada and Telugu — across all platforms (TV, radio, and digital).

For the very first time in the history of the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Star India collaborated to create the anthem for this edition’s campaign. This anthem puts a spotlight on the battle of the best in world T20 cricket.

The music and lyrics of the video ‘Best vs Best’ encompass the spirit of the Indian Premier League.

A talented ensemble of artists worked on the anthem — South African filmmaker Dan Mace, music director Raajeev V. Bhalla and vocalist Siddhart Basrur, who sung the anthem in five different languages.

“The very essence of IPL is a thrilling, action-packed celebration of cricket where the best of talent take on each other in one of the most gruelling cricket tournaments in the world. It is a fantastic celebration of both the game and its millions of fans across the world. The Best vs Best campaign endeavours to showcase the pinnacle of cricket that this tournament is associated with,” said Sanjay Gupta, Managing Director, Star India.

BCCI CEO Rahul Johri said: “Given that we are now ready to embark on the next chapter for the Indian Premier League with the start of the 11th edition, the BCCI, in collaboration with Star India, has worked on co-creating a large multi-media campaign focussing on the ‘Best vs Best’.”

“We hope this campaign spurs the non-cricket viewing public to engage more deeply with the IPL 2018 like never before,” he added.

WhatsApp adds ‘Block revoke request’ feature to prevent misuse of the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature.

Whatsapp

WhatsApp has increased the deadline for when a user can apply the ‘Delete for everyone’ feature in a group or private message. While earlier the limit was 8 minutes and 32 seconds, when it came to revoking a message from group or private chat, WhatsApp has now extended this to 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds. The feature was spotted in Android beta, and it looks like this has been rolled out to iOS and Windows versions of the WhatsApp as well.

We have seen that the extended time for deleting messages working on Android beta, but not on the iOS version of WhatsApp. It also looks like WhatsApp is planning to add a new feature called ‘Block Revoke Request’ in the background to curb use of modified versions of the app, which allowed some users to delete messages sent as long as three years back. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s ‘Block revoke request’ feature will quietly add some protection to prevent misuse of the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature.

According to the report, the “Block revoke request,” ensures that the feature will now check if the message saved in the database, which is to be deleted for everyone, is less than 24 hours old when applying this request. The post points out that this will make sure no-one can illegally delete messages older than 24 hours for everyone.

What happens at the moment with the messaging app is that if a ‘Delete for everyone’ request feature was sent out, then WhatsApp would just match the request ID to the message ID and then delete if a match was found. In new versions of the app, the messaging service will limit the revoke request to 24 hours, and also check the date of the message along with the ID before applying ‘Delete for everyone’.

As the report points out, one of the problems is that if the phone is switched off during the time the ‘Delete for Everyone’ request is sent out, and remains off for the next 24 hours, then the request will be considered invalid and the message will continue to remain on the group or chat, even if it was deleted for others. It has also been pointed out that if someone replies to a message in a group, and the same is later deleted for everyone, the message continues to show on the group.

Bibian Mentel-Spee takes Paralympic gold

Bibian Mentel-Spee

Bibian Mentel-Spee of the Netherlands retained her Olympic snowboard cross title at the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang – only months after finishing treatment for cancer, which prevented her from competing for much of the past year.

Having been diagnosed in July 2017 with cancer in her neck, oesophagus and ribs, she had expected her treatment to be over by October. However, in December she was informed by doctors that the tumour in her neck required further urgent surgery – giving her barely any time to prepare for the Games.

Before competing Mentel-Spee said: “I let go of my expectations for Pyeongchang. I’m really happy that I am able to go and that I can compete there. For me it is more important to compete there than to win. And just being there at the event with all my friends and showcasing the sport, that is the most important thing for me. I’m not really thinking about the results.”

The 45-year-old, whose final operation was in January, was victorious in an all-Dutch final in Pyeongchang, edging out her team-mate Lisa Bunschoten for gold when she recovered faster after both women fell in the final race.

Speaking to Paralympic.org, Mentel-Spee said of her treatment “It’s not easy to go through. Then again my doctor said it’s a no-brainer for me. You have to have this surgery to enjoy your life.”

Bibian Mentel described competing as a form of rehab for her. “I had all the more reason to stay on the couch with all that has been happening in the last couple of years,” she said. “But the best way I could treat my body and recover from all the surgeries and radiation and the cancer is to be as fit as possible and make sure that my immune system is as high as possible, which I do by playing sports.”

Mentel-Spee became a Paralympian after having her right leg amputated below the knee after a bone cancer tumour was discovered while she was attempting to qualify for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

She won gold in the same event at Sochi in 2014, the first time the discipline was included in the Winter Olympics. Her Mentelity Foundation helps children with disabilities enjoy board sports, including snowboarding and skateboarding.

Primary education should only be in Indian languages: RSS

Education in India

Nagpur : Pitching for promotion of local languages, the RSS today said the government needs to formulate a suitable policy to ensure that primary education “should only be” in mother tongue or any other Indian language.

At its crucial triennial meeting of office bearers, the ruling BJPs ideological mentor passed a resolution on the need to protect and promote “Bhartiya” languages.

Candidates appearing in higher education entrance exams of all faculties including technical and medical should have the option of the local languages, it said, adding that the medium of teaching and study material should also be available in Indian languages.

The RSS also welcomed that the NEET and UPSC examinations have now been started in “Bharatiya” languages, but said the same option should be available for all other entrance tests and competitive exams.

Primary education across the country should only be in mother tongue or any other Bharatiya language. For this, parents should also make up their mind and the governments should formulate suitable policies and frame necessary provisions in this regard, the Sangh said in the resolution passed by the Akhil Bharatiya Praitinidhi Sabha (ABPS).

Seeking that preference be given local languages in all government and judicial works, the RSS said local languages should be encouraged in appointments, promotions and all kinds of functions instead of giving preference to English.

Expressing concern over declining trend in the practice and usage of local languages, it said many languages and dialects have become extinct and several other are endangered.

Central and state governments should take effective steps to protect and promote all languages, dialects and scripts of Bharat, the Sangh said while calling upon its workers and society to preserve and promote their mother tongue.

The entire society including the swayamsevaks should give preference to the mother tongue in conversations and day to day interactions in the family. The tradition of collecting and reading literature in these languages needs to be cultivated, it added.

However, the RSS said it is in favour of learning various languages of the world to acquire diverse knowledge.

“But, in a multilingual country like India, ABPS considers it most necessary to protect and promote all the languages of Bharat as the carrier of our culture,” it added.

Google Chrome will give you the option to export saved passwords

Google Chrome already has Inbuilt Password Manager available. This allows users to sync with other devices. However, Google is now working on another feature. Under this, users will be able to export passwords for use in third parties. In its simpler terms, it means that Chrome users will be able to export their saved passwords in a text file or in an easy way. But the new functionality that Google is working on will make the process easier. This feature is currently available on the Chrome Dev Channel on the desktop.

Advantage of this feature:

Allows users to save passwords on chrome, desktop, and smartphone. With this, users can easily save passwords. Not only this, the browser itself becomes a password manager after popping it down. However, some users may prefer to use another password manager. This feature of exporting passwords will make it very easy to switch from Chrome to any other browser.

How to use the feature:

To use this feature, users must go to settings-management passwords.
Users will see a new menu near saved passwords in it. Tapping on this will give the user the option to export the password as a CSV file.
This file can also be used for other password managers.

When will it be available:

This feature is still being tested by the developers and at the moment there is no information about when the feature will be available to the public. But still, it can still be used in flag settings. For this, users have to paste chrome://flags/#password-export into the navigation bar in Chrome. This will enable the option to export passwords. This feature can be used in Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS and Android.

Google recently rolled out Chrome 65 for desktop and Android. Chrome version 66 will soon be seen in beta version. After this, its stable version will be provided.

Ola’s Nagpur experiment facing significant problems

Ola's Nagpur experiment facing significant problems

Indian ride-hailing firm Ola’s Nagpur pilot project to test a fleet of electric vehicles, was expected to herald a revolution in the Indian auto industry. However, it has only exposed weaknesses in the government’s ambitious plans to make all new vehicles electric by 2030, according to a Reuters report.

SoftBank-backed Ola launched the project last year with an initial investment of about $8 million.

But nine months later, the program has hit a major problem –  unhappy with long wait times at charging stations and high operating expenses, Ola drivers want to return their cars and switch to fossil fuel variants.

Out of 20 Ola electric car drivers interviewed by Reuters in Nagpur, more than a dozen said they have either returned their electric taxis and switched to diesel, or are planning to do so.  The cars are owned by Ola’s nagpur project and leased to drivers for Rs1,000 a day, but many complain that the amount is too high and they need to work for 12-16 hours to make a decent living, given that they waste 3-4 hours a day on charging.

Ola had said it would make 50 charging points available across four locations in Nagpur – a city of about 2.5 million people – for its fleet of 200 electric vehicles, but on a visit to the city in late January, Reuters reported it found only about a dozen charging points. Ola has since added 10 additional charging points but is still short of its target.

Ola did not respond to Reuters requests for comment for its report.

“The hurdles faced by Ola in setting up sufficient charging stations for a fleet of expensive electric cars with a limited driving range expose the challenges the Indian government and automakers will face if they are to get anywhere near realizing the 2030 vision,” reuters said.

Global auto makers have repeatedly warned that India is not ready yet to become an only EV market, in the absence of a clear, long-term policy, provide incentives to encourage manufacturing of electric vehicles to bring down their cost and create the charging infrastructure.

Gadkari added to uncertainty when he said last month that the government will no longer draft a separate electric vehicle policy, without commenting on the 2030 vision.

The Ola’s Nagpur project has not turned out to be economically viable for either the company or its drivers, the Reuters report said.

Electric car sales in India, one of the world’s fastest-growing auto markets, made up less than 0.1 per cent of annual sales of more than 3 million passenger cars. The lack of demand is mainly because of costs due to high battery costs, limited battery range and lack of a charging infrastructure.

Mahindra & Mahindra is the only electric carmaker in India and the high cost of even its entry-level model, which starts at Rs7.6 lakh is a barrier for many first-time car buyers, and a non-starter for taxi drivers who can get a diesel or petrol propelled car for about half the price.

Many Bollywood films are awaiting their release. Some got pushed to avoid clashes with big films or some have been pushed due to creative issues. It has been learned that John Abraham starrer Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran is reportedly delayed again.

After several delays, John Abraham’s film Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran was supposed to release on April 6. However, according to the buzz, the film may be postponed further until May 2018. According to the sources, the producers are having creative differences over promotional strategy. Reportedly, John and KriArj Entertainment are also having creative squabbles. The VFX needs fine tuning which has further delayed the film. But, the makers have denied any such issues. Instead, they don’t want to clash with Irrfan Khan‘s film Blackmail. Prernaa Arora confirmed that they are looking out for a new date and checking out new options.

Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran was earlier supposed to release on 8th December last year. Then, it was pushed to February 23rd but Welcome To New York released that day. So, to avoid clash, the makers pushed it further to April 6, 2018.

Facebook Finalises Deal With Warner Music Group for Music Streaming

facebook Warner music group

Facebook on Friday announced a licensing deal with Warner Music, the last of the major label groups to sign with the social media behemoth which is promising more personalised music. The 2 billion users of Facebook will soon be able to post in more creative ways with the catalogue of Warner, whose artist roster includes Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and the late Prince.

“Our partnership with Facebook will help expand the universe of music streaming and create supplementary revenue for artists,” said Ole Obermann, chief digital officer of the Warner Music Group.

“Fan-created video is one of the most personal, social and often viral ways that music is enjoyed, but its commercial potential is largely untapped,” he said in a statement.

Warner said it had been holding out for “the best possible deal” after its two rivals, Universal Music and Sony Music, signed deals with Facebook in recent months.

Facebook has said that it is looking at more personalised ways in which users can post music, including through Messenger and Instagram, the picture-driven social media platform owned by Facebook.

Mark Zuckerberg‘s company has largely taken a back seat on music streaming as other mega-companies such as Apple and Google invest heavily in the growing sector.

While music postings are omnipresent on Facebook, the company has sought to take down embedded content that is copyrighted without licensing.

BCCI and DD to decide if Shami should be allowed to play for IPL 2018

BCCI

Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils (DD) are keeping a close tab on the Mohammed Shami controversy as officials are set to meet BCCI top brass to take stock of the situation after his wife Hasin Jahan filed a police complaint accusing him of domestic violence and adultery.

Shami has been embroiled in a massive controversy after his wife Jahan in series of Facebook posts alleged the fast bowler of various transgressions in personal life.

The BCCI has already withheld Shami’s central contract as the police may start its inquiry on allegations of domestic violence.

Daredevils are now awaiting for BCCI’s legal opinion about whether they should allow the Bengal speedster to join their camp, which will start at the end of the month.

“Look Daredevils management can’t take any unilateral decision in this matter. All players who play in the IPL have a tri-partite contract involving the franchise, BCCI and the player. Yes, we are well aware about the sensitive situation and we are having discussions with top BCCI officials. There is a clause about any player bringing disrepute but it is for the lawyers to interpret it,” a senior franchise official said.

The Indian Premier League involves big business houses and they are extremely aware about their image.

The GMR group had just entered into a 50:50 partnership with JSW group―owners of India’s top football club Bengaluru FC.

Company’s image is paramount for any franchise and Delhi Daredevils is no exception in this regard.

“In these sensitive times, when people are raising their voice against domestic abuse and violence, unless Shami comes out clean, the franchise’s image will also take a beating. If Delhi Daredevils are worried, they certainly have reasons to do so. They have created a brand and would be protective about that,” a senior BCCI official said.

There were, however, mixed reactions in BCCI as some officials felt that CoA chief Vinod Rai could have waited for the police inquiry to get over and charges levelled against Shami being proved before his central contract was withheld.

There is a possibility that acting president C.K. Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhry along with CEO Rahul Johri discuss the Shami issue on the sidelines of the Captain’s Conclave in Mumbai on Monday, March 12.

John Abraham replaces Sushant Singh Rajput in Romeo Akbar Walter

John Abraham

Weeks after Sushant Singh Rajput walked out of the spy thriller Romeo Walter Akbar (RAW), John Abraham has stepped into his shoes and come on board.

“We are excited to have John on board this film with us. The process began when we were brainstorming on whom to cast for the protagonist’s part and thought that John would fit the bill perfectly. He really liked the script and gave his nod on the same day as the narration. We have revisited the script of this espionage drama which is set in the 1970s and we can’t wait to take it on the floors,” the makers issued a statement.

While earlier it was Bunty Walia who was producing the film, now it is being co-produced by Abhishek Kapoor, Dheeraj Wadhwan, Vanessa Walia and Gary Grewal. After Sushant walked out of the project, Walia was reportedly miffed and asked the director to approach Abhishek Bachchan for the lead role.

Leading trade analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted John’s entry and the shooting dates as well. His tweet mentioned that the shoot starts on 1 June and the film will be wrapped up within 60 days.

Revealing that John’s looks in the film will be an attraction point, the makers also informed that they have roped in National Award-winning makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad and famous costume designer Amera Pulwani for the espionage thriller.

John will start working on RAW as soon as he wraps up Milap Zaveri’s thriller in which he will star opposite newcomer Aisha Sharma and alongside Manoj Bajpayee. Also, his long awaited next, Abhishek Sharma’s period drama Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran is slated to release on 7 April.

Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi medium set to release in China

Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi medium set to release in China

Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi medium set to release in China

The hugely successful ‘Hindi Medium’ that was released by T-Series and Maddock Films last year, has been given the distinction of a China release on April 4.

In the past, selective films have enjoyed a successful entry into the Chinese market. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Bhushan Kumar Directed by Saket Chaudhary, the Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer received immense appreciation from audiences and critics, followed by a several awards, allowing ‘Hindi Medium’ to organically make its way to be exhibited in China.

The Chinese authorities who choose their bouquet of films every year, have been so impressed with the content of ‘Hindi Medium’ that rather than the main poster, they opted for the teaser poster that had been designed by celebrated publicity designer, Rahul Nanda.

Producer Bhushan Kumar says, “there’s a unique twist in this tale. Hindi Medium is content driven and even though Irrfan is an internationally recognised talent, the Chinese distribution body opted for our teaser concept which shows the feet of a man, one representing poverty and the other representing material wealth.”

The poster clearly reflects the disparities in society and as the film ‘Hindi Medium’ does, the image holds a mirror up to our society where the ability to speak fluent English is ignorantly considered a yardstick to measure sophistication and elitism.

Producer Dinesh Vijan said, “This is exactly what made ‘Hindi Medium’ so significant. The idea that we give importance to material wealth and our social image over the value of humanness and love baffles me, but sadly it’s what drives most of society and portraying this in a light yet meaningful form is what resonates with audiences universally.”

Jet Airways, AirAsia, SpiceJet to add new aircraft to meet rising demand

Jet Airways, AirAsia, SpiceJet to add new aircraft to meet rising demand

The Indian aviation industry is expanding by leaps and bounds spearheaded by affordable pricing and better connectivity. In fact, domestic Indian passenger traffic increased by 17.9% in January from last year, comfortably touching the 41st consecutive month of double-digit growth, as mentioned by the International Air Transport Association in a monthly update on Thursday. To keep up with the pace of the world’s fastest-growing aviation market, Indian carriers including Jet Airways, Air Asia and SpiceJet are planning to add new airplanes to their fleets.

Speaking at the Wings India 2018 in Hyderabad yesterday, Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Nayan Choubey said that as long as oil process remained below USD 80 per barrel, he believes the Indian aviation market would grow at a compound annual growth rate of 15% for the next 20 years or so.

“The growth of the domestic Indian (aviation) market is the highest in the world,” Boeing Senior Vice President Asia Pacific and India Sales Dinesh Keskar said. “Every segment of traffic in and out of India is going to grow for the next 20 years,” he further added as mentioned in agency reports.

Indian airlines are rushing to add more jets to meet the rising demand for domestic and international flights, making it one of the most targeted sales markets for jet manufacturers Airbus SE and Boeing Co. Boeing even said in July last year that it expected Indian carriers to order up to 2,100 new aircraft worth USD 290 billion over the next 20 years. They also called it the highest-ever forecast for Asia’s third-largest economy.

Jet Airways last year finalised a deal to buy a separate 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and said it was in ‘serious talks’ for 75 more. Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube said that they would finalize the deal with one of the plane manufacturers, alluding to Boeing or Airbus.

Similarly, AirAsia India is looking to expand its fleet to 60 jets from the current 14 over the next five years, a spokeswoman said. The airline’s parent, AirAsia Bhd, said in January it was considering an IPO of the Indian arm. SpiceJet’s Chairman Ajay Singh said his airline was studying the feasibility of Boeing’s and Airbus’ jets for longer haul international destinations, including western Europe and United States, as it looks to expand beyond short-haul international routes. In July, SpiceJet had signed a provisional deal to buy 40 Boeing 737 MAX 10 jets. He also said the low-cost carrier was close to announcing an on board Wi-Fi facility on its flights, which would offer in-flight entertainment including streaming movies, cricket and as well as shopping. The move, which could boost SpiceJet’s ancillary revenue, is likely to come by April, he said.

Power saver fans in all Metro stations

Power saver fans in all Metro stations

Power saver fans in all Metro stations

NAGPUR: In order to reduce power consumption in Metro stations and offices, MahaMetro has decided to install highly efficient high volume low speed (HVLS) ceiling fans. This will save 2.31 lakh units of electricity per annum in every Metro stations.

A MahaMetro official said that to achieve similar type of velocity at each Metro rail platform with 8 high volume low speed fans having 10 feet diameter, the agency will require 144 wall-mounted fans, as one wall-mounted fan covers 150 sq.ft area. high volume low speed fans will thus save over 2 lakh units per annum.

HVLS fans utilize a D-Drive next-generation DC motor that eliminates the need for a gearbox, which reduces noise and moving parts. They are 10 feet in diameter, with a variable speed of 0 to 93.5 revolutions per minute (RPM) and maximum displacement of up to 34,000 cubic feet per minute (CFM). One fan can serve an area up to 2,700 sq. ft, with very low sound level (up to 44 dba at 100% speed).

These high volume low speed fans are very much energy efficient and each fan uses maximum power of up to 190 watts only. Its next-generation motor design eliminates gearbox, resulting in reduced noise, zero maintenance and easy installation. Hence, these fans can provide saving in capital, maintenance and energy costs too.

HVLS fans shall enhance thermal comfort by reduction in effective air temperature by about 5.7 degree F. They will be wired into the building’s fire suppression system so that the fans will automatically shut off maximum of 90 seconds after sprinklers are activated. Upon fire detection as described above, the fans shall coast to a stop as required by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines.

NMC to sell its one litre water bottle at Rs 10

Taking a cue from grand success of a nation-wide sale of Rail Neer of Indian Railways, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is mulling over a proposal to set up its bottling plant to provide packaged drinking water to the citizens. The civic body will provide the bottled water at a very competitive rate as compared to similar products available in the market. This may open a new avenue of generating revenue for cash-strapped NMC.

Highly placed sources in NMC claimed that the Nagpur Environmental Engineering Services Limited (NESL) had taken a decision in the year 2016 to set up a bottling plant at Nagpur to sell bottled drinking water.
It may be mentioned that several brands are already selling packaged drinking water at quite a higher rate. The civic body is supplying 1,000 litres of water for Rs 8, while big brands are charging around Rs 18-20 for one litre water bottle, using NMC’s water.

A senior officer said, “We may sell one litre water bottle at Rs 10 to the consumer. Our product will be cheaper as compared to other products in the market. NMC can generate a huge profit from selling bottled water. The bottling plant will be installed at Gorewada Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and raw water available at the WTP will be used for bottling.”

“The civic body may initially install bottling plant of 2,000 bottles capacity. The main concern is about marketing and we are appointing a consultant to guide us for the marketing and production of the water bottle. We may also provide space to other companies to bottle the water and sell it in the market at the rates decided by the civic body. We will share the profit margin.”

The officer hoped that this would pave way for the new revenue generation for the cash strapped NMC.

Presently, the civic body is struggling with the finances and it is mulling all the proposals to increase its revenue. The collection from Property Tax and Goods and Services Tax (GST) is meager as compare to the development pace of the city.

Maharashtra Government takes steps to curb crime by juveniles:

The state government has initiated steps to curb crimes across Maharashtra committed by juveniles. The Maharashtra government is taking even a marginal increase in juvenile crime as a cause for concern and is committed to tackle it effectively through social and educational reforms.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday told the Maharashta Legislative Council (Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad) during question hour, “The government is working through various schemes and organisations to curb juvenile crimes.”

CM Fadnavis said, “Data analysis shows that 73 per cent of the total juvenile offenders are in the age group of 16 to 18 years. There are committees set up across 36 districts.”

Child welfare officers have been appointed at police stations to deal with juvenile crime, he said. “Statistics show the percentage of juvenile crime (2006) was 2.2 per cent. It increased to 2.38 per cent in 2017,” he said.

While stating that percentage of juvenile crime was much less compared to other crimes, the Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis said, “Even a marginal increase is a cause of serious concern. And it is our government’s endeavour to make it negligible.” Various aspects, including social, economic and educational have been considered to tackle the problem.

“In the state, there are 69 observation and protection homes. Out of these, 18 are operated by the government and 51 are private,” said the CM Devendra Fadanavis.

The state government plans to monitor students when they come out of the protection homes to ensure they are guided in the right direction and get employment. Following a Supreme Court directive, state and regional committees have been set up for monitoring and rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents, CM Devendra Fadanavis said.

AirAsia India To Expand Domestically Before International Operations

Low cost carrier AirAsia India will focus on expanding its domestic network and increase its flight frequencies, before commencing international operations to Southeast Asia by early next year, the airline’s chief, Amar Abrol, said.

Just a few days ago, the budget passenger carrier announced the addition of Nagpur and Indore to its network, effective March 17. It will also introduce new routes connecting Bengaluru, Kolkata , Goa, Indore and Nagpur.

In addition, the airline will operate daily flights connecting its two hubs — Bengaluru and Kolkata — which will become operational from March 25.

“We are not shying away from India. We will first commence flight operations to new domestic destinations and increase frequencies. In all we are looking at starting flights to four to five new cities in this year,” Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Abrol told in interview.

“We are making the preparations for international operations but it will most probably take place by the first quarter of 2019,” he added.

Currently, the airline operates to Bengaluru, Kochi, Goa, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Pune, New Delhi, Guwahati, Imphal, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Srinagar, Bagdogra, Ranchi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bhubaneshwar with a fleet of 16 A320 aircrafts.

When asked about the first international port of call, Abrol said: “It can be anywhere from India’s eastern seaboard to Southeast Asia, particularly to Thailand and Malaysia.”

According to Abrol, apart from adding more domestic flight frequencies, the airline is “steadily working” towards “break-even” by the year-end.

On the perils of high crude oil prices denting the airline’s ability to offer lower fares, Abrol said AirAsia India will continue to offer “lowest possible fares” to its customers.

“We don’t control oil prices. But we do control other aspects; we are good at one thing and that is to provide affordable flying. AirAsia India will continue to offer the lowest possible airfares,” Abrol said.

The airline, like many of its peers, has been known to offer promotional airfare schemes. It recently started the “Big Sale” promotion with all-in one-way fares starting at Rs. 799 for domestic travel.

AirAsia India is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Malaysia-based AirAsia, with a small stake held by two individuals. It commenced operations on June 12, 2014.

WhatsApp is writing a custom message for large enterprises

BENGALURU: After recently launching a mobile app for small businesses, WhatsApp is preparing to add several new features for large enterprises , including customer support and possibly merchant payments as well, according to people familiar with the developments.

WhatsApp, which last month introduced a peer-to-peer payments feature on its messaging app, has been working with companies including hotels network OYO and ticketing platform BookMyShow to allow them to communicate with their customers.

The Facebook-owned company is now developing a customer relationship management (CRM) software that it will introduce initially for companies using its application programming interface (API), said one person aware of the matter. This feature is expected to roll out in the next six to nine months. Till late last year, WhatsApp had about 10 enterprises using its API (which entails core tools for building applications), as per industry sources. WhatsApp is expected to expand its payments facility to include customer-to-merchant transactions to offer a complete solution to enterprises.

“WhatsApp will most likely use the Facebook Messenger playbook for enterprises. Their services could range from messaging, calls and maybe even payments in the future,” said Nikhil Kumar, head of developer ecosystem, IndiaStack.

WhatsApp didn’t comment on the merchant payments feature but confirmed it is testing an enterprise technology for larger businesses to make it easier for companies to connect with their customers and share useful information.

“We are building and testing two new tools that create more value for people and businesses on WhatsApp,” a spokesperson for WhatsApp said in an email. “In January, we launched WhatsApp Business app for small businesses on Android. We are also testing an enterprise solution for larger businesses. Both tools make it easier for businesses to connect with their customers and share useful information like flight information, delivery confirmations, and other updates.”
