Date:

Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University ( RTMNU ) has proposed to start courses in Animation Art, Visual Effect Art, Creative Production Management, Film Studies and New media Design and Innovation. These new courses have been included in the five-year Perspective Plan of the University.

The courses will be available under Bachelor degree in Vocational courses (B Voc), in the four districts under its jurisdiction – Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia and Wardha. The courses will be started from the academic year 2018-19 to 2023-24.

Besides ensuring equitable distribution of avenues for higher education, reducing gap between Gross Enrollment Ratio at the national level and at the district level has been considered while preparing the plan. The University also aims to promote satellite centres at the place which are neither district nor taluka places.

The RMTNU has proposed to open 22 new colleges, including eight for the vocational courses and ten exclusively for women and two evening colleges for those who wish to pursue higher education while working.

The number of colleges in other districts are – Bhandara – 10, including four vocational, four for women and two evening colleges; Gondia – 12, including five vocational, four for women and two evening colleges; Wardha – 8, including four vocational, two for women and one evening college. Besides the technical courses mentioned earlier the subjects in vocational courses will include Acting, Theatre and Stage Craft, Software Development, Retail Management, Food Processing and Engineering, Building Technology, Automotive, Banking, Accounting and Taxation and Rural Development Technology.

The RTMNU has also proposed to open 11 professional colleges in the four districts. Looking at the modern trend these include seven colleges for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT) and four in Pharmaceutical Sciences. One College in HMCT in Nagpur will be exclusively for women. These courses are being considered important, when a large number of engineering colleges are facing closure for want of students.

The option of shifting the technical universities to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technical University, Lonere, is open. The shifting of affiliation to BATU, so far has not been made compulsory.
