Date:

Nagpur: With temperatures consistently in the mid-40s and a heatwave warning in place, the Nagpur city police have decided not to send cops on patrolling duties between 1 pm and 4 pm till June 30. Cops above 50 years and those having ailments have been a complete exemption from afternoon duties.

The police station in-charges have also been told to keep water pots on terraces and other places for birds and animals.

City police chief Amitesh Kumar said the guidelines have been issued to protect cops from sunstroke. “We had been cautious about the health of the ailing and older cops and now the same protection has been extended to others,” he said.

Senior police officials have been asked to ensure that cops deployed outside police stations have access to some kind of shade and drinking water. They have been asked to procure umbrellas too.

The circular issued on Thursday also emphasized the need to reschedule the afternoon duties. The police station in-charges have also been asked to mount green sheets and keep ample drinking water available.

Traffic unit in-charges have been told to ensure their personnel uses a public address system to control the traffic and create awareness at junctions.
