NMC wants Rs 800cr to take over NIT layouts

Date:

Nagpur : Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is not in favour of taking possession of all undeveloped layouts in the city. The civic body will require around Rs 800 crore from Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to complete the pending development work in these layouts and Trust has denied to give this much of amount to them. The deadlock over handing over and taking over possession of these layouts will continue for the next couple of months.

Standing Committee Chairman Virendra Kukreja ,while talking to mediapersons said, “NIT is not in a position to pay Rs 800 crore for completing the overall development of these undeveloped layouts. Presently, they are ready to release only Rs 93 crore. It is meager amount as compared to total requirement of the funds.” Recently, Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed civic administration to take possession of all 3,000 layouts in the city.

They also directed to complete the pending works and it is very difficult for the cash strapped NMC to fulfill the aspirations of people living in these layouts. As per NMC office-bearers, the NIT has almost funds of Rs 800 crore in their fixed deposits. NIT Trustee Virendra Kukraje has raised this issue in the meeting of Board of Trustees, but Trust officers said that they have to make payment of Rs 1900 crore.

Therefore, they do not have ample funds for the NMC. Sources in NMC also claimed that NMC would create a pressure over NIT to release at least Rs 500 crore for the undeveloped layouts, till then, they would not take possession of it.
