Nagpur : Checkers, Nagpur’s beloved restaurant, is set to expand its footprint by opening two new outlets by February, 2026. The brand has witnessed a nearly 14x growth in its yearly orders from 2020 to 2025, becoming the customers’ favourite for Chinese, Continental, and North Indian cuisines in the city.

Speaking about their journey, Suresh Shivdasani, Founder of Checkers, said, “For 27 years, we’ve focused on serving fast, fresh, high-quality food made with care. Loyal customers have driven our growth across the city, and with Zomato’s help, we’ve reached more neighbourhoods while staying true to our commitment to quality and consistency.”

Aditya Mangla, CEO, Zomato, said, “The trust customers place in Checkers has been built plate by plate over the years. We’re glad to be part of their journey by supporting them with aggregated insights and platform connections that help them grow further.”

The journey of Checkers began with Mr. Shivdasani, who, after moving from Delhi to Nagpur in 1998 for a corporate career, discovered a fascination for eateries serving delicious Chinese food, a rarity back in his hometown. Inspired, he decided to leave his corporate job and return to Nagpur, bringing with him a vision of offering food that delighted every palate.

The same year, he launched Checkers, introducing not just Chinese cuisine but also a unique old-fashioned coffee machine that quickly became a favourite among customers. To cater to a wider audience, he expanded the menu to include Continental, North Indian, and fast food options, with classics like Sizzlers adding to the brand’s charm. From its humble beginnings, Checkers has grown from a single outlet to three thriving locations across Nagpur, with plans to expand further by opening two more outlets in the city by February, 2026.

Since onboarding on Zomato, the brand has:

  • Leveraged ads and discounts to boost visibility and attract customers, building a strong online presence
  • Participated in the Flash Sale campaign to drive engagement and sales
  • Achieved ~14x growth in yearly order volumes over five years, from over 6,800 in 2020 to over 97,300 in 2025
  • Expanded operations to three outlets, with plans to open two more outlets by February, 2026

To help small restaurants scale quickly, Zomato has introduced several initiatives in recent years. These include a DIY onboarding tool that helps restaurants get listed on the platform in just 15 minutes, and access to the Restaurant Services Hub, a curated marketplace of verified vendors offering licensing, staffing, and hygiene audit services. In select cities, new restaurants also benefit from 0% commission for the first 30 days, along with credits for ads and Hyperpure services. As of Q2 FY26, Zomato has an average of 327,000 monthly active food ordering and delivery restaurant partners on the platform.
