Nagpur: Three patients of city were given a new lease of life through organ transplantations by a 27-year-old brainstem dead donor Narad Bopache, on Sunday. Bopache, a resident of Usgaon village, Bhandara, was riding his two wheeler when he met an accident on Bhandara-Nagpur highway on November 27. He sustained head injury and was admitted in New Era hospital.
Dr Nilesh Agrawal, Dr Anand Sancheti, Dr Parag Moon, Dr Amol Kokas, Dr Sahil Bansal carried out the treatment. However, Satish was declared brain-dead on December 1. The zonal transplant coordination centre (ZTCC) Nagpur was informed about the patient’s condition after which it advised the hospital to take formal consent of the relatives regarding the organ transplant.
Dr Agrawal counselled the patient’s father Narad Bopache who agreed to donate the organs. Following the consent, ZTCC allocated one kidney and liver to wait-listed patients at New Era Hospital. The second kidney was allocated to the Wockhardt Hospital. The patient’s liver was transplanted to a 29-year-old male patient and one kidney was transplanted to a 53-year-old male patient of the hospital. The second kidney was allocated to a 58-year-old patient of Wockhardt Hospital.
This was the 40th organ donation and transplantation in city bringing the count of kidney donation to 72 and liver to 27 in ZTCC Nagpur zone since 2013.
