New Delhi: Amid loudspeaker row in the state, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil said on Friday (May 6) that the Union government should come out with a policy on the use of the public address system.
Talking to reporters after holding a meeting to review the law and order situation in the state, Dilip Walse-Patil thanked people from Hindu and Muslim communities for maintaining peace amid the loudspeaker row.
“The Centre should bring a policy (on loudspeakers) for the entire country. But I will thank the Muslim and Hindu communities. This issue could be handled peacefully and law and order could be maintained in the state because of their cooperation,” Walse-Patil said, as per PTI.
Last month, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had demanded that the loudspeakers used in mosques be removed by May 3, failing which Hanuman Chalisa would be played at high volume to drown out azaan.

Nagpur: City police chief Amitesh Kumar has started a dialogue with religious heads of different institutions to enforce the rules related to the usage of loudspeakers, including enforcing the silent hours between 10 pm and 6 am.
Adopting an apolitical and secular approach, Kumar has declared a citywide drive against all use of loudspeakers, cracking the whip on marriage venues, bands and DJ parties, musicals, and other events from next week. “If any private organizations, group, or individual wants to use loudspeakers then they have to follow the rules pertaining to sound or noise or be prepared to face action,” said the top cop. He and Joint CP Aswati Dorje, Addl CP Navinchandra Reddy, DCP Special branch Basavraj Teli and others are holding talks with various religious and political groups over the loudspeaker issue.
Kumar said around 60-70 applications from various religious institutions have reached the city police seeking permission for use of loudspeakers. “In order to tackle the loudspeaker issue peacefully, city police top brass has started inviting different institutional heads from various communities to exchange opinions regarding loudspeaker usage, and permitting them only within the legal framework,” he said.
“Police are now only appealing to people cordially, but would not hesitate to act if even a single stone is pelted anywhere. No group can maliciously reach out to another without police intervening,” said the CP.
Kumar also said certain norms, like silent hours, may pose a challenge for certain religious rituals in the wee hours of the day, but laws would be enforced over a period of time in a phased manner. “Police are discussing religious issues with different groups and trying to find a way out of each situation. Law would prevail but we are appealing to all for cooperation. All the religious places need loudspeakers and everyone would face some issues without them, but police would be firmly enforcing the law,” said Kumar during an informal media interaction.
The city police top brass has appealed to the masses to restrict the use of loudspeakers, fit them within the guidelines and norms set by the Supreme Court verdicts, and sound and noise pollution rules put into place by enactments.
Nagpur: MNS workers on Wednesday performed puja and chanted Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers at Hanuman temple in Sonegaon amid heavy deployment of police forces across the city.
In another development, Nagpur city police issued notices to around 100 activists of MNS under Section 149 of CrPC as party chief Raj Thackeray remained firm on his stand of playing Hanuman Chalisa in front of mosques if loudspeakers there were not removed by Wednesday.
According to reports, an application for playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ on loudspeakers was received at Kotwali Police Station but the same was rejected and the workers were served notices under Section 149 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). A few applications also were received at other police stations but were discarded to maintain peace.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar conducted a meeting of MNS leaders and asked them to stay away from any agitation that would derail peace in Nagpur. On request of MNS workers, permission for performing puja at Shree Hanuman Temple at Sonegaon Lake was given by the police. Some MNS workers led by senior leader Hemant Gadkari performed Hanuman puja at the temple in the afternoon hours. Around 30 to 40 MNS workers were present at the program.
The police have issued notices to around 100 MNS workers under Section 140 of CrPC till Wednesday night. Police would deal with an iron hand with anti-socials, the CP warned.
On Wednesday, a delegation of MNS led by party convenor Hemant Gadkari met the Commissioner of Police. “They had sought permission to recite Hanuman Chalisa across the city and subsequently filed applications at 32 police stations across the city, which was rejected,” he said.
The top cop said a meeting was held with priests and trustees of Hanuman temples in the city. They were advised not to play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers, he said, and added that the city remained peaceful. The city police have also appealed to religious heads to obtain permission for using loudspeakers from local police stations.
He further claimed that the city police were on full alert to avert any law and order situation and a review is being taken every two hours. Weekly offs and other leaves of city police personnel no longer stand canceled, the top cop said.

The report said that the ED has found dealing of Rs 875 crore in the accounts of five companies of Pankaj Mehadia and his associates. More than 450 entries of names have been found registered in the dubious companies. Most of the entries were made to turn black money into white money. Whistling Woods International’s founder and Chairman Subhash Ghai and 1 OTT’s, Narendra Firodia, Swapnil Joshi made the announcement.
The films made by the students of WWI will be telecast on 1OTT, the popular platform launched to telecast content in various regional languages. Some of the films were made by some of the leading directors in the films industry as the students of the WWI a few years ago. WWI will provide ‘1OTT’ with fresh and entertaining content developed by its students.

While speaking about the joint venture Subhash Ghai, the showman of Bollywood and Chairman of Whistling Woods International, said, “There are more than 10,000 scripts from our ancient era, from Walmiki to Tulsidas, but only 2000 of them have been converted into films. The acting school founded by us is to cater to this untapped stuff. I will keep producing films in the second half of my life. I have to produce the producers of the films through this acting school. I keep telling my students at Whistling Woods to work on the untapped stories and understand their nuances, and the point of view behind them. I can proudly say that my students have been working on it for the last 15 years. I am proud to be associated with ‘1OTT’ because it will give recognition to my students and budding talent by showcasing their works through a mobile App.”
“I used to make films in Hindi, but today the films are produced in various Indian languages and they are doing a good amount of business. Now, you cannot make films in any one particular language, but they have to be in maximum Indian languages and it is the future of the film industry. The changes we have witnessed in the last two decades have stormed the film industry. I am happy to learn about the OTT App my friend Swapnil has come up with to cater to various Indian languages on just one single App. Though India has various languages, we have more than 5000 dialects in use and we should always keep it in mind while producing content,” said Ghai.
Swapnil Joshi said, “We are thankful to Whistling Woods and Subhash Ghaiji for this association which is just the beginning of a very long-term partnership. Through this partnership, the audience will get an opportunity to watch the very first projects of now well-known directors in Bollywood. These films are from all genres and are made by the students of Whistling Woods. It’s a great platter of entertaining cinema for the audience. They are in 4 to 5 Indian languages, and of course in English.”
Swapnil Joshi has thanked Whistling Woods International for the association with ‘1OTT’ and Ghai for gracing the occasion. “I thank Ghai sir for having shown faith in an upcoming platform like us. It swells our hearts with pride and gives us a lot of positivity and encouragement to do bigger and better projects in the future. When you think about the legendary director Ghaisaab, the first and foremost words that come to your mind are craftmanship, grandeur, storytelling, world-class stuff among others,” he said.
Narendra Firodia said, “India is a huge market for the contents on OTT and it has been proven in the last two years. Since the regional languages were not getting the due participation on these platforms, we decided to launch ‘1 OTT’ for the content in Indian languages. The platform will benefit the contents from all the Indian languages. We are aiming at giving quality content in Indian languages to our viewers and that way it will be India’s OTT. The joint venture with WWI is nothing but showcasing the upcoming and one of the best talents from industry on this platform.”
Chetan Maniar said, We at 1OTT, a hybrid regional streaming platform are very pleased to announce the tie-up with Whistling Woods International which is Film Communication and Creative art institute located in Mumbai promoted by the Mr. Subhash Ghai. Whistling Woods will provide 1OTT with fresh and entertaining content developed by its students.
In my personal opinion, there shall be lots of opportunities created within the industry. The synergy creates an ecosystem that allows aspiring content creators to showcase their talents and viewers to get fresher content to view. 1OTT looks forward to this new initiative which we are certain will be of mutual benefit. In many ways it’s a perfect fit said Chetan Maniar
After the logo of ‘1 OTT’ was launched by Maharashtra governor BS Koshyari in January, the OTT platform joined hands with the Padhega Bharat drive in February to offer the syllabus for students of Classes V to X on the digital platform. The 1 OTT (Over The Top) platform will cater to the regional content covering all major Indian languages to become truly ‘Apne Bharat Ka Apna Mobile TV’. Twitter will always be free for casual users but maybe a slight cost for commercial/government users.
Tesla chief Musk has been suggesting a raft of changes to Twitter since last month. After adding the company to his cart recently, Musk said he wanted to enhance the platform with new features, make the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeat spam bots, and authenticate all humans.
Last month, even before reaching a deal with Twitter, Musk had suggested a few changes to the Twitter Blue premium subscription service, including slashing its price.
Earlier this week at the annual Met Gala in New York on Monday, Musk also said he would make Twitter transparent about how tweets are promoted or demoted and wanted its software to be publicly available for critique.

Jaipur: Fresh clashes erupted between two communities in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Tuesday after the previous night’s violence over a dispute involving flags in the Jalori Gate area ahead of Eid, the police said.
Stone-throwing and more violence was reported in five areas, while the police used force to bring the situation under control.
Internet services were suspended in Jodhpur to stop people from spreading rumors, and the namaz for Eid was offered under police protection.

Policemen fired tear-gas shells and used sticks to disperse the crowd, which also attacked the local police post.
Stone-throwing left at least four policemen injured in the early hours of Tuesday, news agency PTI reported.
“Four policemen were injured in the stone-pelting. A heavy police force was deployed in the area to control the situation,” an official in the police control room told the agency.
The situation in remains tense. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who belongs to Jodhpur, appealed to the people to maintain peace.
“While respecting the tradition of love and brotherhood of Jodhpur, Marwar, I make a touching appeal to all the parties to maintain peace and cooperate in restoring law and order,” he said in a tweet.
Mr. Gehlot said he has instructed the administration to maintain peace and order.
The clashes are the latest in a surge of communal violence and tension around the country, fanned in no small part by hate-filled speeches by religious and political leaders.
The last few weeks have seen such clashes in at least five states – Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal – as India observed Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti, and Ramadan.

Nagpur: The Head of the Computer Science Department (HoD) at Dada Ramchand Bakhru Sindhu Mahavidyalaya has been suspended by the management for allegedly seeking sexual favours from students to pass them. The accused HoD Assistant Professor Rakesh Gedam has reportedly gone absconding after the students lodged a complaint with Pachpaoli police in this connection.
According to reports, the college management has constituted an Enquiry Committee to probe the allegations levelled against the HoD Rakesh Gedam. After receiving complaints, Pachpaoli police searched the pervert accused but could not trace him, reports said. The HoD is a native of Gondia but has been staying in the Dighori area of the city.
Reports said that over half a dozen students accused the Assistant Professor of seeking sexual favours from them for passing them, admission and increasing marks in practicals. If opposed, the accused would threaten the students to fail them, the students alleged adding it was routine for Gedam to make undue advances towards them at college, especially in the Computer Science laboratory where there is no CCTV camera. The college authorities placed Gedam under suspension on Saturday as tensions escalated.
According to a student, they had alerted college teachers and authorities, but no one took them seriously or tried to help them. A colleague of Gedam was interrogated by Pachpaoli police on Friday after his name too had cropped up. As Gedam remained elusive, students tried to vent their ire on his close colleague, following which police had to intervene to maintain peace at the college.
RTMNU declares 16 more results of Summer 2022 examinations
Nagpur: Under fire from students across the state for its decision to conduct summer examinations in the offline mode, the Maharashtra government in its letter to all universities has clarified that it wanted to ensure uniformity in holding papers to avoid any disputes.
The clarification came from the state higher and technical education department’s letter to all universities on April 27, where minutes of the vice chancellor’s meeting with minister Uday Samant and other top officials were mentioned.
Quoting the consensus reached among VCs after the meeting, the letter (a copy is with TOI) mentioned the guidelines to the universities on conducting the examination.
Accordingly, the universities were directed to hold forthcoming exams of undergraduate and postgraduate in pen and paper format.
The letter also addressed to the technical and higher education directors in Mumbai and Pune, directed the universities to hold final year examinations on priority so that the students could get enough time to apply for further studies and jobs.
The letter also addressed to Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU), Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (BATU) in Lonere, Raigad, stated that the exams would commence across all government-run institutions from June 1 and be completed by July 15.
“All papers would have a two-day gap while the students would get 15 minutes more behind every hour. The universities would provide a question bank to the examinees to prepare for the exams well in advance,” the letter said.
Quoting Samant, TOI had exclusively reported about the government’s decision to conduct exams in detail on April 26.
The letter sent by officer Pravinkumar Pawar informed that the government had granted permission to higher education institutions to resume physical classes from February 1, through a notification of January 25. It was also informed to them to conduct all exams before February 15 in online mode and in offline format after this date following a significant reduction in the Covid-19 cases in the state.
“The views of VCs and Board of Examinations and Evaluation (BOEE) directors of all universities were taken into account before reaching consensus on various issues. All of them agreed that due to the Covid-19 pandemic for the last two years, the examinees have no habit of writing the exams in pen and paper format, and therefore, offline papers must be resumed, as the conditions are conducive for it,” the letter stated.
