Nagpur: With the possibility of Covid-19’s fourth wave becoming large , and Nagpur being the Second Capital of the State is also seeing a steady rise in new Covid cases and the local government however, doesn’t appear to be paying any attention about anything. Although Nagpur is in the middle of a crisis, and both Central Government as well as Nagpur State Government have sounded warning and urged vigilance at railway stations and airports but no screening facilities have been located at the Nagpur Railway Station.

The previous Friday Nagpur district registered 43 new Covid cases. But, there was no Covid screening or testing facility for passengers arriving at the station was set up at the Nagpur Railway Station.

Experts are worried that the suspected cases coming from Delhi and Mumbai could lead to massive virus spread in the city as well.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had established Covid testing facilities at the Railway Station during previous waves. But, both the administration and railway have not yet taken action on the imminent threat.

Coronavirus cases: 41% jump in India, 81% in Maharashtra

After months of registering single-digit COVID-19 cases the looming threat of coronavirus once again is on rampant. According to the data, the Orange City on Friday registered 29 new COVID-19 cases.

Administration are already on their tip-toes as the cases across Maharashtra are rising and now Nagpur is also witnessing the rise in cases.

Masks have still not been made compulsory in the city. The Second Capital of the State on Thursday had reported around 9 fresh COVID cases.

Another reason of increase in cases can be the increase in testing. The authorities have asked the concerned officers to make the door-to-door campaign active as well as to launch special campaign in the areas where the number of doses taken by people is comparatively less.

Blow for MVA as BJP wins 3 RajyaSabha seats in Maharashtra

Blow for MVA as BJP wins 3 RajyaSabha seats in Maharashtra

In a major setback to Maharashtra’s ruling alliance of Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party and Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday won three of the six Rajya Sabha seats, while the ruling combine questioned the eight-hour delay in counting of votes.

The BJP winners include Union minister Piyush Goyal and former state minister Anil Bonde, and Dhananjay Mahadik.

Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, NCP’s Praful Patel and Congress’s Imran Pratapgarhi also won the fiercely-fought elections.
Of the 284 valid votes, Goyal polled 48, Bonde 48, Mahadik 41.56, Raut 41, Pratapgarhi 44 and Patel 43.

The contest was for the sixth seat — the BJP had fielded former MP Dhananjay Mahadik and the Shiv Sena candidate was Sanjay Pawar, who lost. Mahadik and Pawar hail from Kolhapur in western Maharashtra.

The high-stake battle for the sixth turned out to be a nail-biting affair with the Congress and BJP trading charges, even approaching the Election Commission.

“Elections are contested not just for the fight, but the victory. Jai Maharashtra,” tweeted BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, whose refusal to have a consensus candidate for the Rajya Sabha led to elections in the state after 24 years.

The counting of votes started after an eight-hour delay amid complaints of cross voting and rules violation by the BJP and the ruling alliance.

Both BJP and the Shiv Sena approached the Election Commission, alleging cross voting and seeking disqualification of votes.

The poll panel directed the Rajya Sabha election returning officer of Maharashtra to reject the vote cast by Shiv Sena legislator Suhas Kande, after which the counting of votes got underway after 1 am. The first result was out in two hours.

After the stunning setback, Congress leaders admitted shortcomings in coordination in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat told reporters in Vidhan Bhavan that it is a matter of study as to what went wrong.

”BJP was cunning in holding up the counting and getting one vote invalid. We were confident that all four of our candidates will win comfortably,” the Congress leader said.

Imran Pratapgarhi, the victorious Congress candidate said he was happy with his win but the defeat of Shiv Sena candidate Sanjay Pawar was unfortunate.

NCP leader Praful Patel said he will continue to make sure the concerns of Maharashtra are heard and addressed.

”A huge thank you to all my supporters and well wishers for electing me to serve as the Rajya Sabha Member of the Parliament. I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Pawar Saheb and NCP for entrusting me with this responsibility,” he tweeted.
”I am deeply humbled by your support, and I want to assure you that I will continue to work day and night to make sure that your concerns and of my Maharashtra state are heard and addressed,” he added.

Raut blamed the poll panel for the defeat of the fourth MVA candidate.

”Election Commission made our one vote invalid. We objected to two votes but no action was taken on that demand. Election Commission favoured them (BJP),” Raut said.

Salman Khan Was Nearly Killed By Sharpshooter Sent By Lawrence
Mumbai: In a shocking revelation by Times Network, an attempt was made to kill Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. This is one of the goriest details that has come to light even as the probe into the daylight murder of Sidhu Moose Wala is underway.
During the investigation of the Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder case, investigating officials have stumbled upon a bit of information that has remained unknown till date. A sharpshooter almost killed Salman Khan outside his residence but the actor got saved by a whisker.
As per the input available with Times Network, Lawrence Bishnoi, a suspect in the Moose Wala murder case, had sent a sharpshooter with a small-bore weapon hidden in a modified hockey casing to kill Salman Khan. The sharpshooter was reportedly planted out of the actor’s residence who tried to assassinate him but he backed out at the last moment by chance.
The gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his men conducted a recce of Salman Khan and knew that the actor doesn’t accompany security guards when he goes out cycling in the morning. The assassinators were aware that the actor is most vulnerable at that time and accordingly hatched a plan to eliminate Salman Khan.
However on the D-Day when the sharpshooter was about to execute their plan and Salman Khan was about to leave his residence that morning, an escort of Mumbai Police was at his gate which was engaged with the actor as he had to attend a public function that day.

Salman Khan threat letter case: Bollywood actor denies enmity with anyone, refuses receiving threat calls

This unnerved the sharpshooter and his associates and they decided that the time was not prudent to act on what they had planned. They feared being caught by the police personnel and therefore the sharpshooter was directed to back out from the plan.

Court Rejects Hearing On Nawab Malik’s Bail | Our Nagpur

The Bombay High Court had refused to entertain application of Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik for granting one-day bail for voting in Rajya Sabha elections. The High Court Judge Prakash Naik, while rejecting the application stated that when the court which has arrested Malik has rejected the application, there is no question of entertaining it by this court.

Amendment to the Malik’s application was allowed. However, amendment to the aplication, submission to the Special Court and against approaching the High Court via the hospital where Malik has been admitted, is not likely to be completed before the polling ends at 4 pm on Friday.

The decision of application by former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was dependent on the decision on Malik’s application.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi, thus have lost two votes of Deshmukh and Malik, who have not been allowed to move out of the jail and exercise voting.

Polling for ten Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra is in progress on Friday. Deshmukh and Malik are part of MVA and are in jail under charges of money laundering.

Presidential polls on July 18 : EC

Presidential polls on July 18 : EC | Our Nagpur | Nagpur News

NEW DELHI: With the Election Commission announcing the presidential election on Thursday, the spotlight is on YSR Congress and Biju Janata Dal as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is just short of the halfway mark.
June 29 is the last date for candidates to file papers. Voting is scheduled for July 18 and counting on July 21.

While PM Modi will have the final word on deciding the presidential candidate, support from YSRCP or BJD would pave the way for NDA’s nominee in the race for the country’s top office. Recently, YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik had met Modi in Delhi, although it is not clear what transpired during the meeting. The two regional parties have maintained a low profile; both went with BJP in backing Ramnath Kovind in 2017.

Based on the current arithmetic, NDA is around 13,000 votes short and support from either BJD, which has over 31,000 votes in the electoral college, or YSRCP (over 43,000 votes) will ensure smooth sailing for the BJP-led alliance. NDA is estimated to have 5.26 lakh votes out of a possible 10.79 lakh in the electoral college, comprising elected members of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and the state legislatures. The numbers could change after the ongoing Rajya Sabha polls, but probably not enough to change the big picture.

The NDA has the option to renominate Kovind, field vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu, who is seen as a potential candidate or, like last time when it fielded a Dalit face from Patna Raj Bhawan, spring a surprise.

Although BJP’s numbers have significantly increased in the Lok Sabha, its changed equations with the regional parties and reduced strength in several state assemblies have led to its reliance on regional parties such as YSRCP and BJD. The party has severed ties with Shiv Sena, and Akali Dal, while AIADMK members occupy fewer benches in the Tamil Nadu assembly.

The saffron party won the Uttar Pradesh polls this year, but its numbers have reduced. Besides, it has suffered losses in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and also in Madhya Pradesh compared to the numbers it had in the 2017 presidential polls.

But the NDA seems to have an edge, especially because the opposition is yet to come to a common ground on a candidate, who could be a career politician or a distinguished personality. There has been a tug-of-war among the opposition parties with regional parties such as TMC, TRS and AAP insisting on a non-Congress joint front against BJP.

NDA strategists are confident of sailing through as they feel the margin is not insurmountable in the context of this polarised situation and because of the steadfast refusal of regional satraps from allying with the opposition camp.

While the decision on the candidate is formally for the BJP parliamentary board and NDA to take, there is near unanimity that the PM will have the final say in the matter.

While the presidentship is supposed to be a constitutional post, political parties have tried to capitalise on it. The last time, the nomination of Kovind, a Dalit, was done at a time the BJP leadership had launched a countrywide bid to win the Dalit community’s support.

Four Nagpur Girls Who Lost Parents To Covid Score High Marks In HSC

Four Nagpur Girls Who Lost Parents To Covid Score High Marks In HSC

NAGPUR: In what could be seen as a befitting tribute to their departed parents, whom they lost to Covid during the deadly second wave last year, and overcoming grief as well as financial challenges, four girl students from Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Gandhibagh branch, scored high marks in the HSC exam.

The school management too pitched in by waiving off all fees and helping them with books and other study material.

Kunika Amesar lost her father, sole earning member in the family, last year to Covid. With her mother being a homemaker and a younger brother still in high school, financial woes for the family had just begun. But Kunika stayed strong and scored a whopping 83.83% in arts stream.

“Initially, it was very difficult to concentrate on studies but I did it anyway,” said Kunika, who preferred not to get into details.
With the sole earning member of the family gone, her mother Pammi had to now step forward. “I have started a small cloth business from home itself. Kunika is now also training to be a beautician and wants to get into fashion designing. It’s tough, but we are positive that things will be on track,” said Pammi.

In a tragic coincidence, Kunika’s collegemates from the same arts stream Pakhi Bandu (84.83%) and Saniya Tofik (73.5%) too lost their father and mother, respectively, during the second wave of the Covid pandemic.

Another student from commerce stream, Rohini Kokate (86.83%) also lost her father to Covid. TOI tried to get in touch with all of them, but either their mobiles were switched off or out of network area.

All four students got major support when the school management decided to stand firmly behind them. Ashnarayan Tiwari, principal of Adarsh Vidya Mandir, said, “It was extremely heartbreaking to learn about the loss these kids faced. Knowing well that all four were academically very good students, the management decided to waive off all fees for them and even provided them with books. Though educational institutes were closed for a long time amid the pandemic, our teachers took extra efforts for these students and the results are the testimony of the girls’ determination to excel.”

COVID-19 returns: NMC to increase testing at stations, airport, malls

India Reports 2,430 New COVID-19 Cases | Our Nagpur

On Tuesday, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation administration issued an alarm after 25 positive COVID-19 cases were discovered in the area, 15 of which were from the city alone.

The increase follows a steady rise in cases over the previous ten days, which appeared to be levelling down in the last few days. The data released today, which are several times higher than the daily average over the previous few days, came as a shock.

The emphasis is on increasing the number of tests in order to break the chain. According to NMC administrator Radhakrishnan B, instructions have been provided to conduct Covid testing at the airport, railway stations, marketplaces, malls, and vegetable markets.

Passengers travelling by flight from Delhi and Mumbai, as well as locals who come into contact with them, have been urged to get tested by the administration. The health department will also focus on testing super spreaders in busy venues such as markets, malls, and vegetable markets, as directed by the municipal commissioner.

To avoid becoming infected or spreading infection, the administration advised residents to acquire both doses of the coronavirus vaccine and to use masks in crowded areas or ceremonies. In light of the escalating number of corona patients, the health department held a conference in the Corona War Room at the business headquarters on Tuesday

No Guarantee That Questions Would Come From The Bank: RTMNU

Nagpur University Cancels BSc Fourth Semester Maths 1 Exam As Gondia College Clerk Leaks Paper Online
Nagpur University Cancels BSc Fourth Semester Maths 1 Exam As Gondia College Clerk Leaks Paper Online

Nagpur: The Nagpur University (RTMNU) officials have clarified that there will be no guarantee that the questions provided in the question bank by colleges would appear in the actual paper.

The official reaction came after the students blamed RTMNU for not providing the question bank as assured by the state department of higher and technical education in its letter to all the universities. Even the colleges expressed inability to provide it stating that they not only lacked teachers, but also did not have subject experts for framing the questions.

RTMNU stand is also contradictory to the one taken by higher education minister Uday Samant, the concept of bank means a particular set of questions would be provided to the examinees for study and paper would be based on those only.

Board of Examination and Evaluation (BoEE) director Prafulla Sable endorsed  RTMNU officials’ stand on the question bank but refused to comment further. “Even the colleges could collaborate with each other for the question bank by forming a cluster if they lack teachers of particular subjects. There are various ways and means to resolve the issues”.

Engineering students said their colleges had provided them a reference question bank, which the latter indicated that a few of them may be asked in the RTMNU question paper. “All colleges are providing links for reference questions, but not taking any guarantee that RTMNU would ask questions from those. Our syllabus was not fully covered due to online teaching during the pandemic period. What is the use of such reference questions if those would not be a part of RTMNU paper?” they asked.

RTMNU officials said colleges were unnecessarily creating a fuss over the issue as they only frame questions for the university for question sets. “If they can provide questions to RTMNU, why can’t they provide those to their own students? The colleges can share the questions among each other. All decisions were not taken alone by the RTMNU administration but by the BOEE, which is the statutory body for deciding anything about the exams.”

The officials said the decision to handover the evaluation work to colleges was taken to ensure that the results would be out at the earliest. “We will try to declare the results within three weeks of the last paper, if the colleges cooperated. Another objective is to start the next academic session on time. It was inordinately delayed for the last two years due to the pandemic,” they said.

Students start sharing questions through social media
After refusal by many colleges to provide question banks, the aggrieved students found a new way to deal with the crisis. They started groups on various social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook to share questions provided by a few colleges. They are calling their counterparts from all colleges in Bhandara, Gondia, and Wardha, besides Nagpur, to come together on these platforms. They are also sharing their grievances stating that they need to help each other in the moment of crisis.

No re-exam: Students missing RTMNU University exams to be declared absent

NAGPUR: While issuing a series of instructions for the summer examinations, the RTMNU has clarified that it would not be conducting re-exams this time, unlike previous two years.

After a series of flip-flop from the RTMNU administration, the inordinately delayed exams would commence from June 8 with final year of undergraduate courses. The postgraduate exams would begin from June 15 while rest from June 22.

Due to advent of online mode since last two years after Covid, the university used to conduct multiple exams for the examinees facing technical snags. Failure of RTMNU servers in 2020 exams had also forced RTMNU  to conduct multiple exams, as it was very easy for the students to appear from their mobile or laptops, that too from the comforts of their homes. In absence of proper proctoring method, the students allegedly resorted to gross malpractices which led to historic results for RTMNU.

In a circular posted by the Board of Examinations and Evaluation (BOEE) director Prafulla Sable for the principals, invigilators and examinees, NU has clarified that in case the students missed the exams for any reason, they would be marked absent and declared fail. RTMNU officials told TOI that they would get a chance to reappear in the paper only during winter exams.

RTMNU has made it mandatory for the students to take signatures of principals on their hall tickets along with college stamp, without which they would not be allowed to appear for the papers. The general rules that were applied to the examination before the Covid would be in force once again. The students need to enter into the examination hall 15 minutes before the start of the paper. Their entry would be prohibited 15 minutes after the paper begins. They will not be allowed to leave the room before one hour of the paper, although 90 minutes were allotted to them for solving questions.

Among some rules introduced includes using only blue or black pen for ticking the answers, while red-ink pen and pencil are strictly prohibited. If the answer is wrongly ticked, the examinees need to take invigilator’s signature for correcting it. In case of failure, the answer would be declared as invalid and would not be taken into account while counting marks.

The colleges are told to provide rough papers to the students, which they would return to the invigilators at the end of the paper. Unlike last two years, they would not be allowed to carry mobile phones, smart watches or any other electronic gadgets inside the exam room.

Students, note this
Principal’s signature, college stamp on hall tickets must
Enter exam room 15 minutes prior to paper
Entry to be barred 15 minutes after the start
Student not be allowed to leave exam room before one hour
Mobile phones, smart watches, electronic gadgets prohibited
Only calculator to be allowed to students in specific subjects
Students to fill up roll number, sign on first page of question paper
Tick mark only by blue/black pen, pencil/red pen prohibited
Rough papers to be provided by college, those need to return after exams
If answer is wrongly ticked, students can change with sign of invigilator
If changed without invigilators signature, it won’t be checked
Paper to be of 50 questions, 40 need to be solved
If more questions are solved, marks to be awarded on 40 correct answers
Those found indulged in unfair means to face punishment as per rules

Two days to go for the biennial polls of Rajya Sabha, the count down in Maharashtra has begun for the big show between the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and its arch rival now BJP as seven candidates are in the fray for six seats. The polling is slated for June 10 (Friday). The independents either with the ruling alliance or with the opposition ranks are increasing their nuisance value as they are in demand now and no group can afford to neglect them. Some solid assurances and promises, all what they need.

As expected the major parties have shifted their voters (MLAs) to posh hotels in South Mumbai which is a usual practice before the voting..They have been approached by the authorised persons to ensure the vote is guaranteed. Some are visible and some are behind the scene activities.

NCP leader and MP Supriya Sule had personally visited independent MLA Kishore Jorgewar in Chandrapur on Monday and discussed the issue. What transpired between the two is obvious. In Rajya Sabha poll, each vote is important and can decide the fate of the party and the contestants.

The AIMIM which looked ignored in the process amd also showed up and wants MVA leader to approach them for vote.Indeed the MVA was probably keeping cards close to hearts and some behind the scene activities must be going on but AIMIM inssted open commitment from the ruling alliance. Finally after news broke out, NCP leader Jayant Patil and other acknowledged that they will tak to AIMIM and seek support for MVA candidate. MVA was keeping under wraps but AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owasi is a seasons politician and wants open open commitment.

After spending three nights, beginning tonight (Tuesday), at Trident for MVA and Taj (BJP) the voter-MLAs will drive straight to the Vidhan Bhawan, the venue for voting on Friday.
