Daler Mehndi arrested, 19-year-old human trafficking case
Singer Daler Mehndi has been sentenced to two years in prison in a human trafficking case of 2003, the complainant’s lawyer Gurmeet Singh said.
The recent hearing was a review hearing in the case after a Patiala court had earlier convicted the singer for 2 years in prison in 2018. The singer was later let out on bail but has now been arrested as per court orders.
In the FIR, Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh were accused of illegally sending people abroad disguising them as troupe members in exchange for money. That they were charged with IPC sections for human trafficking and conspiracy and the Indian Passport Act.
The complainants had alleged that the brothers had taken money from them to help them go to USA illegally, but didn’t do so. It was alleged that the brothers took about 10 people to USA as troupe members during 1998 and 1999. According to PTI, Mehndi (in company of a female actor) had also allegedly “dropped off” three girls in San Francisco.
RATI Foundation’s ‘Meri Trustline’, Meta-supported free helpline launched for children facing online safety concerns
The pandemic saw an unprecedented number of children rely on technology and digital platforms to keep up with learning, stay entertained and connected to the outside world.
However, not all children have the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to keep themselves safe online. To help children and parents address concerns of online safety, Meta is supporting the RATI Foundation (Aarambh India Initiative) to launch ‘Meri Trustline’.
The first of its kind helpline is dedicated to offer support to children under the age of 18 years who are in distress on account of facing online safety concerns, such as cyber bullying and loss of control over sensitive media including self-generated child sexual abuse material.
The helpline, operational between 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday, will offer support in six distinctive ways depending on the need and severity of the issue – Technical Support will include assistance in taking down content that the child feels is intimate/private.
Emotional Support will be offered in the form of counseling to callers in mental distress; Social Support will extend to callers that require social work intervention including family intervention, Informational Support will include factual and expert knowledge regarding the issue, Legal Support which includes legal advice and intervention for victims and families and Referral Support that will connect the victims to organizations across India & institutions including law enforcement.
For children looking for support related to self-generated sensitive images or non-consensual intimate images, RATIFoundation will connect the caller with Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), UK to take action to prevent these images from surfacing online.
The Foundation will also provide support in connecting the children and caregivers to relevant law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the launch of the helpline, Antigone Davis, VP, Global Head of Safety, Meta said, “Online safety of children is a serious issue, and we are committed to build an environment where children feel safe across our platforms. Each day more children are coming online and to keep them safe from the risks of online harm, there is a need to create a reporting model which is not only child-friendly and effective, but it can also be adapted by industry at large. With the launch of Meri Trustline, we are supporting the RATI foundation to take a lead in this industry-first initiative that will enable reporting online threats to children across the industry.”
Meri Trustline (6363176363) will be available in both Hindi and English to children and other stakeholders including caregivers, parents/guardians, teachers, siblings, young-adults, and allies. Other institutions or organizations dealing with or acting on behalf of children can also call on the helpline. Run by the RATI Foundation, the helpline will have a team of counselors, including tech and mental health experts addressing queries on the calls.
The Meri Trustline team will also work closely with a strong advisory group of lawyers, experts, and social workers to offer support to the callers based on individual needs.

Petrol Price Down By Rs 5, Diesel By Rs 3 In Maharashtra
The newly formed Maharashtra government on Thursday decided to reduce value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per litre respectively.

Nagpur Pilgrim Couple Dies In Amarnath Floods | Our Nagpur
Nagpur: A pilgrim couple from Second Capital of the State reportedly died on their way to the Amarnath shrine in floods.
The deceased have identified as Rajesh Vinchurkar and his wife. Their bodies were recovered from the debris of the flash flood, revealed Shraddha Dhomne, a Nagpur Police personnel, who received the information at the Police Control Room in J&K on Tuesday.
Notably, on Friday, flash floods hit the cave shrine area killing at least 16 pilgrims and injuring more than 100. While it is not exactly known what caused the flash floods, officials said it could have been caused by a cloud or glacial burst. Following which the Amarnath Pilgrimage was suspended for three days.

दरम्यान, गेल्या काही दिवसांपासून सुरू असलेल्या पावसाचे सत्र रविवारीही कायम हाेते. अकाेला, अमरावती वगळता विदर्भात सर्वत्र पावसाने जाेरात धडक दिली. गडचिराेलीच्या मुलचेरा भागात २०५.८ मिमी अशा विक्रमी पावसाची नाेंद करण्यात आली. गडचिराेलीत २४ तासांत ४४ मिमी पाऊस झाला. नागपूर जिल्ह्यात सावनेर तालुक्यात सर्वाधिक ६४.६ मिमी पाऊस नाेंदविला गेला. शहरात १८ मिमी पावसासह २४ तासांत ३४.४ मिमी पावसाची नाेंद झाली. दमदार पावसाने नदीनाल्यात जलसाठा वाढला आहे. गाेंदिया शहरात दिवसा ५२ मिमी पावसाची नाेंद करण्यात आली. चंद्रपूरमध्ये दिवसा २० मिमीसह २४ तासांत ७२.६ मिमी पाऊस नाेंदविला गेला. रविवारी सकाळपर्यंत चंद्रपूरच्या मूल येथे १०२.५ मिमी पावसाची नाेंद झाली. यवतमाळच्या राळेगावला १०५ मिमी, तर अमरावतीच्या धामणगाव येथे ५७.२ मिमी पाऊस झाला. वर्ध्यात दिवसा १३ मिमी पावसासह २४ तासांत १२१.४ मिमी पावसाची नाेंद झाली.
हवामान विभागाने १२ जुलैपर्यंत जाेरदार पावसाचा अंदाज व्यक्त केला होता. त्यानुसार विविध जिल्ह्यांत ठिकठिकाणी पावसाने वेग घेतला आहे. सर्वदूर चांगला पाऊस झाल्याने शेतकऱ्यांनी पेरणी, रोवणीची कामे वेगाने चालविली आहेत. विभागाने सोमवारीही पावसाचा रेड अलर्ट जारी केला आहे. त्यानंतर १३ जुलैपर्यंत ऑरेंज अलर्टसह मुसळधार पावसाची शक्यता वेधशाळेने वर्तविली आहे. काही हवामान तज्ज्ञांच्या मते, विदर्भासह संपूर्ण महाराष्ट्रात २२ जुलैपर्यंत पावसाचा जोर असाच कायम राहणार आहे.
Rhea Chakraborty Received Drugs Handed It Over To Sushant Singh Rajput: NCB
In a latest development in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, details of the draft charges, which were submitted by the Central Anti-Drug Agency against 35 defendants claims that actor Rhea Chakraborty received multiple deliveries of ganja from the co-accused, including her brother Showik, and these were handed over to Rajput.
The draft was submitted before the Special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Court last month, were made public on Tuesday.
The draught allegations state that between March 2020 and December of that same year, all of the defendants engaged in criminal conspiracy to obtain, buy, sell, and distribute drugs to “high society and Bollywood.” In addition, it claimed that the defendant had supported drug trafficking and used illegally obtained marijuana, charas, cocaine, and other narcotics and psychoactive substances in the Mumbai Metropolitan area.
Therefore, they have been charged under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, including sections 27 and 27 A (financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) 28 (punishment for attempts to commit offences), 29 (whoever abets, or is a party to a criminal conspiracy), as per the draft charges.
The draft charges maintained that “accused number 10 Rhea Chakroborty received many deliveries of ganja from accused Samuel Miranda, Showik, Dipesh Sawant and others and handed over those deliveries to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput”. She made payments for those deliveries at the instance of Showik and the late actor between March 2020 and September that year, it added. As per the draft charges, Rhea’s brother Showik was in regular touch with drug peddlers and had received many deliveries from co-accused after placing orders of ganja and hashish/charas. These deliveries were handed over to Rajput.
The filing of draft charges sets the tone for the framing of charges, following which the trial begins. However, before framing of charges, the court will have to first decide on the discharge pleas of the accused. Until now, four persons, including Kshitij Prasad, former executive producer of Dharmatic Entertainment, have filed for discharge in the case. Special Judge V G Raghuwanshi, hearing cases pertaining to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has posted the matter for hearing on July 27. Rhea Chakraborty was arrested in the drug case in September 2020 and was granted bail by the Bombay High Court a month later.Besides Rhea, her brother Showik Chakraborty and several others are also arraigned as accused in the case, with most of them currently out on bail. The NCB began its probe into alleged drug use in the film and television industry following the death of Rajput on June 14, 2020
PM Kisan Yojna beneficiaries should link bank accounts with Aadhar till 15th
The registered beneficiaries under PM Kisan Sanmaan Nidhi Youjna should link their bank accounts with Aadhar Cards till July 15, if not done so far, so as to get benefits of the scheme, appeals R Vimla, District Collector, here on Monday.
There are 1.92 lakh registered beneficiaries in Nagpur district and out of them data of as many as 1.57 lakh beneficiaries is linked with PM Kisan Portal NPCI while the data of over 33,000 is not linked. Such beneficiaries will not get instalments from August 2022.
An official press note mentioned that all the instalments of the 1.92 lakh beneficiaries after August would be deposited in the Addhar-linked bank accounts. Vimla appealed to beneficiaries to link their data in the nationalised banks at earliest possible.

To boost the electric vehicle Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the government is planning to construct an electric highway between Delhi and Mumbai. He also urged heavy vehicle owners to use alternative fuels like ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen in order to curb pollution.
Addressing an event organised by the Hydraulic Trailer Owners Association, the road transport and highways minister said the government is constructing tunnels worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore.
“Our planning is to make electric highway from Delhi to Mumbai. Just like trolleybus, you can run trolleytrucks also,” he said. A trolleybus is an electric bus that draws power from overhead wires. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles travelling on it, including through overhead power lines.
Gadkari further said his ministry has taken a decision to connect all districts by four-lane roads. Noting that pollution is a big concern, Gadkari said, “I request heavy vehicle owners to use alternative fuel like ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen as they are cost effective and import substitutes.”
The minister admitted that heavy vehicle owners are facing problems because of corruption in state Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). “So, we have to digitise all services provided by RTOs,” he added.
The minister said his aim to is to reduce road accidents and deaths. Observing that there is need to be cautious about road safety, he said “we need trained drivers”. The minister added that as a fast growing economy, India needs needs all kinds of transportation.
Gadkari also said logistics cost in India is high compare to that in China, European Union and the US
Ekanath Shinde, the Chief Minister, and Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, took review of the flood situation in East Vidarbha from Madhavi Khode-Chawre, Divisional Commissioner, at Nagpur airport after their arrival from Mumbai on Monday at 4.15 pm.
Shinde, who is visiting Nagpur for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister, then proceeded along with Fadnavis to Gadchiroli by road because of heavy rains lashing the city. They will take a stock of the floods being experienced in Gadchiroli district.
Meanwhile, Khode-Chawre, Manoj Suryavanshi, Chairman of Nagpur Improvement Trust, Dr Chhering Dorje, Special DIG, Ashwati Dorje, Additional CP, Yogesh Kumbhejkar, Chief Executive Officer, Nagpur ZP, and Vijay Magar, Superintendent of Police, welcomed both the dignitaries soon after their arrival at the airport.

Shiva Tale, an MPSC aspi rant, says although this changed pattern will bene fit students in the long run, the government should have given 2-3 years’ time before implementing it. Students who have been preparing for the objective type examination for the past few years may be affected by the decision, he says.

Raj Babbar gets 2-year jail in a 1996 Poll Code Violation Case
Special Court (MP and MLA) in Lucknow on Thursday sentenced Former Rajya Sabha member Raj Babbar to two years of imprisonment in connection with a case registered in 1996 in Agra for violating the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha election.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 8500 on Raj Babbar. As per the court, Raj Babbar was convicted for obstruction of government work and assault.
Earlier in 1996, on the basis of a complaint by then-polling official Krishna Singh Rana, the case was filed against Babbar.
Rana filed his complaint to Wazirganj police station on May 2, 1996, claiming Babbar, Arvind Yadav, and other people forced their way into voting booth 192 at Sultan-e-Madaris school during the Lok Sabha elections and mistreated and obstructed Rana from carrying out his official responsibilities.
The complainant said that Babbar and his friends cornered Rana and poll worker Shiv Kumar Singh and falsely accused them of manipulating the election.
The complaint further claimed that the polling agent had nose and throat injuries, as well as damage to his lips. Rana said that he was saved by the intervention of other poll workers and police officers stationed at the voting booth.
Following an investigation, police filed a chargesheet against Babbar, Yadav, and others on September 23, 1996. Babbar and Yadav were issued warrants by the court because they disregarded the summons.
Babbar added that although he remembered dimly that such an occurrence had occurred, he had gone to the voting place after hearing claims of irregularities at the particular booth. He, however, denied that there had been any form of abuse at the site.

Health Ministry Reduces COVID-19 Booster Dose Gap To 6 Months
The Union health ministry on Wednesday reduced the duration between the second dose and the precaution third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from 9 months to 6 months for people above 18 years.
On Wednesday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to the states that a decision has been taken to administer the precaution third dose to the adult population after completion of six months or 26 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose.
At present, precaution dose is available free of cost at government vaccination centres to the priority groups -the frontline workers, healthcare workers, and the elderly population aged above 60 years. For those aged 18-59, the precaution dose is available only at private vaccination centres.
