Maharashtra FDA has canceled the license of Johnson & Johnson baby powder and has stopped the manufacturing and selling of the product in the state after it found that the powder for infants has pH value above the mandated limit.

The FDA had collected two samples of the Johnson & Johnson baby powder — one from Pune and the other from Nashik — and the results of the test stated it did not comply with the IS5339:2004 (second revision amendment 3) specification for skin powder for infants in the test pH.

The FDA has told the company to recall the products of the faulty batch from the market

In August, Johnson & Johnson had said it would stop selling talc-based baby powder globally in 2023 and move to a cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio. The decision came over two years after it ended sales in the US and Canada due to safety lawsuits and falling demand.

“As part of a worldwide portfolio assessment, we have made the commercial decision to transition to an all cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio,” J&J had said in a press release.

“We continuously evaluate and optimize our portfolio to best position the business for long-term growth. This transition will help simplify our product offerings, deliver sustainable innovation, and meet the needs of our consumers, customers and evolving global trends,” the statement added.

It had said that its cornstarch-based baby powder is already sold in many nations.

Swiss marvel Roger Federer former World No. 1 has has decided to bid farewell to professional tennis after the conclusion of the Laver Cup 2022.

On Thursday, the legendary tennis player shared a lengthy note to open up about his retirement plans. The Swiss tennis great further confirmed that the upcoming edition of the Laver Cup will be his final ATP tournament. Already embracing the twilight phase of his iconic tennis career, Federer has struggled to feature in major tournaments in the past three years. In his trophy-laden career, Federer has played more than 1500 matches over 24 years.

“Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I’ve met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life. Today, I want to share some news with all of you,” Federer said in an emotional statement shared on Twitter.

Federer, winner of 20-time Grand Slams, will retire from singles tennis at the 2022 Laver Cup. The Laver Cup is a men’s tennis tournament that is contested between teams from Europe and the rest of the world. The fifth edition of the Laver Cup will be played on the indoor hard courts at The O2 Arena in London from 23 September to 25 September.

Over the years, Federer has smashed a plethora of records in men’s singles tennis. Often dubbed as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Federer has won 20 Grand Slams and the tennis icon has secured 103 career ATP titles since his debut. Coached by Ivan Ljubicic and Severin Luthi, Federer turned pro in 1998. Federer became the oldest World No. 1 at the age of 36 in 2018. Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Federer has never retired in 1,526 singles matches. The Swiss icon has played 223 doubles matches in his career.

Nagpur: Eknath Shinde Government is set to give a big gift to the people of Maharashtra on Diwali. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg next month. In the last week of October, the Prime Minister will visit Nagpur for the inauguration of the Expressway. The first phase of this Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway has been completed.

The Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway is 701 km long and a 6 lane highway. It can be expanded up to 8 lanes if needed. It has been designed for a top speed of 150 kmph. However, toll tax will also have to be paid for running the vehicle on this Expressway at this speed. For this, 26 toll tax posts have been set up.

The estimated cost of the Expressway has been estimated at Rs 55,000 crore. It is also officially known as Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg. The first phase of the Expressway, from Nagpur to Shirdi, is ready.

The travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur by this Expressway will be reduced by half. Earlier it used to take 16 hours, now the journey will be completed in 8 hours. There is also a plan to plant 1268 trees along the Mahamarg. The construction of the Expressway was announced in 2015. It has been built keeping in mind the development of Vidarbha, a backward region of Maharashtra. In December 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway.

This Expressway has been targeted to be completed by December 2022. It is worth noting that the 210 km stretch of this Expressway between Nagpur and Shelu Bazar, Washim district was commissioned in May this year. The 310 km long stretch from Shelu Bazar to Shirdi is now ready to be opened to the public.

This Expressway passes through 10 districts and 390 villages of Maharashtra. The Expressway connects the country’s largest container port (JNPT) in Mumbai with the Multimodal International Hub Airport in Nagpur (MIHAN). It will largely connect the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Bengaluru-Chennai Economic Corridor, Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, Chennai-Vizag Economic Corridor and Golden Quadrilateral.

Brahmastra box office week one collection: The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer has crossed the ₹300-crore mark worldwide and ₹200-crore mark in India in terms of gross collections.

Brahmastra Part One-Shiva has been dipping at the box office over its first week but has still managed to cross the important 300-crore mark at the global box office at the end of its first week. The film has earned 200 crore gross ( 173 crore net) in India in all languages in the same time period. Trade analysts have, however, said that the daily dip is a little too high for a film of this size, which may hurt its prospects later on.

The film’s producer Karan Johar took to Twitter on Friday morning to share Brahmastra’s week one worldwide box office gross. In a video he posted, the producer claimed the film has crossed the 300-crore mark globally. “Love and light ruling the global box office at #1! Entering the second week with a heart full of gratitude and excitement,” Karan wrote alongside the video. In the absence of big Hollywood releases in the past week due to the 9/11 anniversary, Brahmastra dominated global box office as well, emerging as the highest-grossing film worldwide with a gross of around $38 million (just over 300 crore).

The film has done decent business in India as well. As per trade trackers Sacnilk and BoxOfficeIndia.com, Brahmastra earned 9 crore nett in India across all languages on Thursday, taking its total week one nett to 173 crore. Its gross collection in the same time period is a little over 200 crore. However, the film has been showing a 15-20% drop per day over the last few days, which is slightly worrying for a film this size.

Just because it is all set to earn 300 crore in India doesn’t mean Brahmastra can already be called a hit though. Given its reported budget of 410 crore, the film needs to sustain well in its second week to have a chance of being called a hit. The one thing working in the film’s favour is that it does not face competition from any big Indian releases till Vikram Vedha and Ponniyin Selvan: I arrive in theatres on September 30.

Brahmastra, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is the first of a trilogy and the starting point of a new cinematic universe. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Mouni Roy, along with extended cameos from Nagarjuna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Shah Rukh Khan.

Nagpur: For the first time in its history, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has invited a woman as the chief guest for its foundation day celebrations at its Nagpur Headquarters on Vijayadashami on October 5.

Making an official announcement on Thursday, it said mountaineer Santosh Yadav, a Padma Shri awardee who has climbed Mount Everest twice, will be the chief guest at the ‘Vijayadashami Utsav’. In line with past years, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat will deliver a speech on the day outlining the organisation’s vision for the year.

The Vijayadashami Utsav of RSS will be held at 7.40 am at Reshimbagh ground here. The ace mountaineer will be the first woman chief guest at the RSS programme. Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak of RSS, will grace the occasion and address the gathering.

Vijayadashami Utsav is important as Sarsanghchalak comments on a variety of issues and his speech provides a glimpse of future course of action by the organisation. In the past few years, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi and Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India, were among the chief guests at RSS’ events. This time, RSS has invited Santosh Yadav.

Born in a village in Rewari district of Haryana, Santosh Yadav became the first woman in the world to scale Mount Everest twice — first in 1992 and next in 1993. For this feat, her name was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1994. She served as an officer in Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and was honoured with ‘Padma Shri’ in 2000. In 2006, Government of Haryana named a very busy road in Gurgaon after her name to honour her achievement.

The rules for online transactions for debit and credit cards is all set to change from October 1 as the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) card-on-file (CoF) tokenisation norms come into effect from , 2022. With this norm, the payment experience of cardholders is expected to improve. The earlier deadline for RBI’s new tokenisation guidelines was July 1, however, it was extended to September 30, on the back of various representations received from stakeholders.

If media reports are to be believed, most of the large merchants have complied with the RBI’s card-on-file (CoF) tokenisation norms and 19.5 crore tokens have been issued so far.  The RBI last September prohibited merchants from storing customer card details on their servers with effect from January 1, 2022, and mandated the adoption of CoF tokenisation as an alternative to card storage.

A tokenised card transaction is considered safer as the actual card details are not shared with the merchant during transaction processing. Once the card-on-file (CoF) tokenisation norms are implemented, platforms won’t be able to store the card details of a shopper in any form.

The card holder can get the card tokenised by initiating a request on the app provided by the token requestor. The token requestor will forward the request to the card network which, with the consent of the card issuer, will issue a token corresponding to the combination of the card, the token requestor, and the device.

For example, when customers buy anything on e-commerce site like Flipkart, Amazon for the first time, they are asked to enter the 16-digit debit/credit card number and then the CVV code. But while making the second purchase from the same e-retailer one have to enter only the CVV as the site has already saved the 16-digit card number.

However, with the new norms, customers have to enter their entire card details while making buying something. After this, tokenisation will be initiated by the merchant. Customers will be asked for consent, after which the merchant will send the request to the card network which will create a token. That token will act as a proxy to the 16-digit card number and send it back to the merchant.

Veteran India batter Robin Uthappa announces his retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday noting that he is ‘charting a new phase in life.’

He also shared a note on Twitter adding, It has been my greatest honour to represent my country and my state, Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket.

It’s been 20 years since I started playing professional cricket, and it has been the greatest honour to represent my country and state, Karnataka – a wonderful journey full of ups and downs; one that has been fulfilling, rewarding, enjoyable and has allowed me to grow as a human being.

However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. While I will spend a significant time with my young family, I look forward to charting a new phase in my life.

I take this opportunity to thank the President, Secretary and the office bearers of the BCCI for their support and encouragement throughout my cricket career. I would also like to thank Karnataka State Cricket Association, Saurashtra Cricket Association and Kerala Cricket Association for the honour of representing the respective states during the course of my career. Further, I would like to express my gratitude to the IPL teams I represented – MI, RCB, PWI and RR.

A special mention to KKR & CSK for all the wonderful memories and support my family and I received during my time with them – something I will always cherish.

Radkarishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator of NMC, addressed a meeting of the representatives from various voluntary organisations here on Wednesday.

Mehul Kosurkar of Green Vigil Foundation will be the captain of the team. Under the competition, a cleanliness rally woluld be taken out on September 17 at 7 am from University Square on Amravati Road to Vivekanand Smarak, Ambazari to Deekshabhoomi. The citicens will offer ‘shramdaan’ and clean the enroute.

In India, Cheetah was officially declared extinct in 1952. Under the Species Recovery Program of the Government of India, species which become extinct are restored in their historic natural habitat. Some such landmark projects include the Restoration of Tigers in Panna Tiger Reserve and the Reintroduction of Gaur (Indian Bison) in Bandhavgarh. Now, the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh will witness host the Cheetahs from Africa, marking a fresh start for the species in the country. IndianOil’s financial support would be directed towards Cheetah introduction endeavours, Habitat management, protection, eco-development, staff training and veterinary healthcare.

Nagpur: In first of Vidarbha region, a 68-year-old gentleman from Botswana (South Africa) with multiple myeloma underwent autologous bone marrow transplantation at the Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur. The treatment was done by Dr. Gunjan Loney and Dr Vishvdeep Khushoo, Consultants- Haemato-oncology and BMT.

The patient was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2020 and treated with chemotherapy followed by maintenance therapy at a local hospital in Botswana. He was then offered Bone Marrow Transplant. In view of no expertise in his country, he decided to get transplanted in India.

He was also diagnosed with  squamous cell carcinoma of left buccal mucosa in 2007. He had undergone a surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in Botswana.

With the disease in control, autologous bone marrow transplantation was done in Wockhardt BMT unit. 

“The patient was given a high dose of chemotherapy which wiped out his normal marrow cells and residual microscopic cancer cells. Infusing his own stem cells helped in cure,” said Dr Gunjan. He was recovered within 12 days of transplant. 

The challenges we thought we would have faced were because of his previous chemotherapy treated oral cancer and old age. However, it was quite a smooth journey through the transplant process.

Bone Marrow Transplantation is a curative treatment for many blood disorders, including myeloma, lymphoma, leukemia, aplastic anaemia, thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. 

A team effort is required to take care of the patient in a germ-free environment where he/she would undergo conditioning chemotherapy followed by stem cell infusion. In the next 10 to 14 days, the patient would be severely immunosuppressed with extremely low blood counts making him or her suspectible to severe infections and bleeding. 

Patients with cancer are supported with chemoports or peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) lines to receive painless therapy. With adequate supportive care, most patients undergo transplantation successfully resulting in the cure of such life-threatening diseases.

Doctors also thanked nursing staff, resident doctors, Transfusion team, Laboratory team and hospital team including all other supportive departments for their immense support.

Only Minimal Cropping is permitted (not more than 20 % of original frame). No major photoshopping is permitted.
  • Submission of photograph ‘EXIF’ details is not mandatory, however, the Participants are encouraged to share the details in the submission email.
  • The winner may be interviewed/enquired to ascertain the authenticity and ownership of the photograph. This may involve seeking references and/or calling in for RAW images, EXIF/ JPEG, etc.

September 2022: Several major players in the industry have seamlessly shifted their focus to offer premium category products to the consumers, with a few shedding non-premium brands to another enterprise, clearly marking the rise in such a trend. It also shows that the industry realises the potential and the growing awareness for high-quality and ethical products. 

Ms Nita Kapoor, CEO, International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) said, “The rise in income for the middle class over the last decade has given them access to experience global brands at the nearest retail outlets that have, in turn, upgraded their stores. These upgraded stores offer their customers an experience of premium quality of service and premium feel, which is on par with duty-free stores across international airports.”

 Millennials in India are exposed to such experiences quite early. Being a rising force in the country who drive themselves hard during work and are armed with purchasing power, the millennials expect best-in-class service. At the same time, the taboo over the consumption of alcohol is fast receding. More than ever before, while the consumers’ choice shifts to premium products, there has been a marked change in how they perceive consuming alcohol as the pandemic allowed them to experience them from home. It is no longer seen as a taboo to either consume alcobev at home or serve their guests at social gatherings. This has led to an exciting trend egging the consumers’ curiosity about the products they consume, trying to discover stories behind the brands, and allowing them to use the information as part of drawing-room conversations.

Post-pandemic premiumisation is witnessing higher growth as there is a higher appreciation for unique experiences over the third place (OTTP) at home. According to estimates, the growing affluence among the middle class is expected to witness a 10 per cent increase a year in the $ 55 billion liquor market. However, there are challenges ahead for manufacturers. “Manufacturers haven’t been able to get a nod from respective state governments to increase their supplier price of products for nearly 5 years in a row and the burden of inflation on all input materials is making it tough for the industry to sustain its operations”, Kapoor adds

After corporation tax, excise duty is the second largest source of revenues for various state governments. Hence, imposing prohibition will nearly cripple their source of income. Consequently, most state governments have maintained a status quo which can only hurt them and the sector.

Elon Musk says Twitter whistleblower payment is another reason to scrap merger

New York: Elon Musk on Friday added a severance payment made by Twitter to a whistleblower to the list of reasons he feels entitled to walk away from his $44 billion deal to buy the social media platform.

A termination letter sent to Twitter accused the firm of not informing him about a multi-million dollar severance payment it made in June to departing security chief Peiter Zatko, who went on to file a whistleblower complaint criticizing Twitter’s security practices, according to a copy of the letter filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Musk’s lawyers argued that failing to seek his consent before paying Zatko provides another legal basis to break the merger deal with Twitter he inked in April.

Twitter disagreed.

“My friend seems to be arguing that Twitter should have gratuitously told Musk that there existed a disgruntled former employee who made various allegations that had been inquired upon and found to be without merit,” Twitter attorney William Savitt said earlier this week.

“That doesn’t make any sense.”

Twitter did not respond to a request for comment on Friday.

Musk, the world’s richest man, said in his original termination letter that he was canceling the deal because he was misled by Twitter concerning the number of bot accounts on its platform, allegations rejected by the company.

In a mixed ruling earlier this week, Kathaleen McCormick, the chancellor of the Delaware court that is overseeing the case, said Musk could add whistleblowing revelations from Zatko that surfaced in August.

But she denied his request to push back the litigation, saying prolonging the suit “would risk further harm to Twitter too great to justify.”

Musk has been locked in a bitter legal battle with Twitter since announcing in July that he was pulling the plug on the purchase of the company following a complex, volatile, months-long courtship.

The five-day trial is due to go ahead beginning October 17 in the Delaware court.

Nagpur: In a horrifying mishap, four people, including two children, were killed and four others sustained critical injuries after a car rammed into two motorcycles on Sakkardara Flyover in Nagpur on Friday night. In this accident, four people on the bike were thrown from a height of about 70 to 80 feet and died. Police said that the deceased, all members of the same family died on the spot after the car collided with their bike.

According to reports, an uncontrolled four-wheeler hit two two-wheelers on Sakkardara Flyover around 10:30 pm. The four riders on the bike were thrown off the flyover. They all died on the spot while the four others injured have been admitted to GMCH here. The dead include a man, a woman and two children. Four persons riding on the second two-wheeler, which was hit by the speeding four-wheeler, were seriously injured.

Police sources said that the driver of the car Ganesh Adhaav has been arrested adding that he was going to Buttibori in a friend’s car. They further revealed that since there was very little traffic on the flyover at that time, Adhaav was driving the car at very high speeds in the opposite direction of the incoming traffic. He lost control and collided with three vehicles including the bike.

Police sources further said that the impact was so severe that all the four passengers on the bike were flung from the flyover adding that one man with his two children and mother were on the bike. Upon being informed about the incident Sakkardara police reached the spot and started investigation.

If reports are to be believed, Shalini had demanded Rs 10 crore alimony for divorce from Honey Singh. But now a settlement has been reached between the two on Rs 1 crore. Honey Singh and Shalini are now officially divorced. Honey Singh handed over a check of Rs 1 crore as alimony to Shalini Talwar in a sealed envelope on Thursday.

Honey Singh’s wife Shalini filed a petition in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on August 3, alleging domestic violence against Yo Yo Honey Singh. He had alleged that Hirdesh Singh’s alias Honey Singh assaulted him. His wife also claimed that Honey Singh was in a physical relationship with other women.

After this Honey Singh took to social media and wrote, “I am deeply pained and distressed by the false and malicious allegations levied against we and my family by any companion/wife of 20 years, Mrs. Shalini Talwar. The allegations are severely odious. I have never issued a public statement or press note in the past despite being subjected to harsh criticism for my lyrics, speculation on my health, & negative media coverage in general. However, I see no merit in maintaining a studied silence this time because some of the allegations have been directed at my family — my old parents and younger sister — who have stood by me during some very difficult and trying times and comprise my world. The allegations are cynical and defaming in nature.”

Following continuous demands from citizens especially school, and college students Maha Metro Nagpur has increased the timing to 6:15 am to 10 pm.

Maha Metro has also increased the number of trains running on Orange Line (Kasturchand Park Station to Khapri Metro Station) and Aqua Line (Sitabuldi Interchange to Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station).

From September 12 metro on Orange and Aqua line and the passenger service under this will start from 6.15 am from all four Khapri, Kasturchand Park, Sitabuldi Interchange, Lokmanya Nagar stations.

The first train of the day will be at 6.15 am and as per the revised schedule, the last metro train will be available from the terminal station on both these routes at 10 pm.
