2007 Mecca Masjid blasts: All accused, including Swami Aseemanand

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court at Nampally in Hyderabad on Monday, citing lack of evidence, acquitted five accused, including Swami Aseemanand, in the case of the bomb attack on the Mecca Masjid 11 years ago.

The blast, using an improvised explosive device, killed nine persons inside the masjid near the historic Charminar of Old City. The others acquitted are Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Bharath Mohan Lal Rateshwar and Rajendra Choundary.

The NIA had originally charged 10 persons with plotting and carrying out the attack on May 18, 2007. Accused Sunil Joshi of Madhya Pradesh, a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, was murdered when the case was investigated. Two other accused, former RSS pracharak Sandeep V. Dange and RSS activist and electrician Ramchandra Kalsangra, also from Madhya Pradesh, have been eluding the investigators. Investigations against two others from the same State, Tejram Parmar and Amith Chowhan, are continuing.

The verdict was pronounced amidst tight security around the Nampally Courts Complex. where all the accused were present. Police restricted the movement on roads leading to the court. Vehicles were directed to be parked more than a kilometre away from the court hall. Earlier, mediapersons staged a sit-in outside the court’s gates after being restricted by police from entering the complex.

Swami Aseemanand and Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar are out on bail while three others are lodged in the central prison in Hyderabad under judicial remand. In March 2017, a court in Rajasthan had sentenced Gupta and another convict to life in jail in the Ajmer Dargah blast case.

Apple may start iPhone 6s assembling in Bangalore soon to lower Indian prices

Apple may start making iPhone 6S Plus

Apple may start iPhone 6S Plus production at a new factory in southern India to lower the model’s price. It may start manufacturing in Bengluru, formerly known as Bangalore, in two weeks.

By setting up a local factory, Apple aims to slash Indian iPhone prices, as a response to government policies that tax foreign phones. India’s government raised tariffs on smartphones from 15 to 20 percent in February, forcing Apple to seek new measures to drop its prices and stay competitive.

Local manufacturing could cut prices by 5–7 percent, according to the report, if Apple manages to make all iPhone 6S Pluses sold in the Indian market domestically. If prices drop that low, iPhones could become as affordable as OnePlus phones or certain Samsung phones.

Another way for Apple to cut additional costs would be to make parts and packaging all within India as well. Earlier this month, the Indian government announced a 10 percent customs duty on circuitboards, camera modules, connectors, and other parts.

In India, the almost three-year-old iPhone 6S Plus remains popular as it costs less than other flagships like the iPhone 8 or X but has many of the same core features such as a 5.5-inch retina display, a 12-megapixel camera, and 4K video recording. The iPhone 6S Plus also has the advantage of coming in rose gold, a discontinued color for newer iPhones. Another, older model, the iPhone SE, is also succeeding in the market because of its cheaper price, in part a result of being built locally.

The iPhone 6S Plus will be the second phone assembled in India, but since it’s not fully manufactured there, it will still be subject to certain taxes. According to The Economic Times, Apple may add more models to

Indian Railways

Indian Railways safety record in 2017-2018 best in 57 years : The Indian railways has maintained the best safety record in 2017-2018 fiscal in over five decades, according to official figures.

As of March 30, 73 accidents were reported across the railway network, compared to 104 in the previous fiscal, the lowest in 57 years. “The main reason behind the improvement is track renewal, the Indian railways carried out renewal of 4,405 km of old rails in 2017-2018.

This is the highest ever progress of rail renewal and exceeds the target of 4,400 km kept for the year,” a senior official of the ministry said. In fact, the previous best track renewal was 4,175 km in 2004-2005, when the transporter was given a rehabilitation plan with a fund of Rs 17,000 crore. This fiscal has also recorded the longest ever distance travelled by trains.

In 1960-61, trains collectively travelled just 388.1 million train km as compared to 1170.7 million train km in 2017-2018. Train kilometer is the unit of measure of distance which corresponds to the movement of a train over one kilometer.

Significantly, despite trains having travelled an additional 74 million train km in 2017-2018 as compared to the last five years, accidents have remained at an all time low. As far as accidents are concerned, while in 1960-61, the number was 2131, it came down to 840 in 1970-71, in 1980-81 it stood at 1,013, in 1990-91 it recorded 532 accidents, in 2010-11 there were 141 such cases, as per the figures.

The casualty figures also have gone down. In 2016-17, 607 people were injured or killed in train accidents, in 2017-2018, the number stood at 254. While derailments have come down from 78 in 2016-2017 to 54 in 2017-2018, accidents at level crossings stood at 13 in 2017-2018 as compared to 30 the previous year.

Maharashtra Plastic Ban continue : Citizens using plastic bags will be penalised, time given for disposal

Maharashtra Plastic ban

Maharashtra plastic ban will continue in state. The state government on Thursday clarified before the Bombay high court that the ban has come into force and those found using the banned items will be penalised.

Citizens have been given three months’ time to only dispose of the banned items by handing them over to the corporation or PET bottle recycling or selling it to an authorised recycler. It also informed the court that the government has modified its notification on Wednesday to revoke the plastic ban on PET bottles of less than 500ml capacity and given manufacturers three months’ time to dispose of the banned bottles.

The statement came even as the division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Riyaz Chagla questioned as to how the citizens will know that the material used by them is banned under the March 23 notification issued by the environment department. The notification permits use of only high quality food grade virgin Bisphenol-A free PET or PETE bottles.

On March 23, 2018, the Maharashtra government through a notification banned the manufacture, sale and use of plastic bags, disposable plastic spoons, forks, cups, glasses, containers, PET bottles less than 500 ml, and thermocol for decoration.

The plastic ban was brought under the Maharashtra Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act enacted in 2006. On April 11, it modified the rules, and allowed PET bottles of all capacity “made of high quality food grade virgin Bisphenol-A free material” with a pre-defined buyback policy printed on it. The manufacturers would also have to set up collection centres, reverse vending machines and crushing machines at different places.

The manufacturers have claimed that the prohibition on plastic was illegal and the state did not have powers to impose the blanket ban via an executive fiat. The petitioners have said the plastic ban affected the fundamental right to livelihood of lakhs of families. They have sought the court’s intervention to overturn the ban and interim orders to defer the manufacture, sale and use of plastic.

Commonwealth Games 2018 : Anish becomes India’s youngest-ever Gold medalist

15-year-old Anish Bhanwala became India’s youngest gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games after shooting 30 points — a Commonwealth Games record — in the 25m Rapid Fire final.

Going into the final, Anish sat comfortably on top of the table in the qualification round, scoring 580 points. His compatriot Neeraj Kumar finished second with 579 points. As the first stage of the final began, Anish continued with the momentum that he had earlier, leading comfortably at 13 points, four points ahead of Australia’s David Chapman, who held the second position after 15 shots.

In the eliminators, as Anish continued to lead by four points, ahead of Australia’s Sergei Evglevski, Neeraj slipped, failing to maintain his nerves in a shoot-off to stay alive in the competition, to finish fifth with 13 points. With the last three eliminators to go, Evglevski took his game a notch higher, scoring a 5/5 to bridge the gap between him and the Indian to just two points. The cat-and-mouse chase continued as Anish — with 25 points — held on to a one-point lead against the Australian in the final eliminator. Anish hit the next five shots on target to go to 30 points, making it impossible for Evglevski to take the gold.

Anish hails from Kashandi, Haryana and is coached by former CWG gold medalist Jaspal Rana. His elder sister Muskan is also a national-level shooter.

Silver for Anjum Moudgil

Anjum bagged the silver in women’s 50m Rifle. The 24-year-old Anjum Moudgil stayed in contention for a medal with strong series of shots, and as the competition was whittled away her scores ensured she was in line for gold with compatriot Sawant. She finished second to Sawant with a combined score of 455.7 for her first CWG medal.

Commonwealth Games : ANish, Anjum Moudgil

In March, Anjum Moudgil had won her first International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup medal, a silver in the same event.

Apple is preparing to stop itunes music downloads in March 2019

Apple is preparing to stop itunes music downloads in March 2019

Apple has finally put an end date on iTunes Store music downloads. While the move has been rumored for years, sources are now saying a reported phase-out of iTunes downloads is expected on March 31, 2019.

The decision is a direct result of significant growth in the use of Apple itunes Music, the firm’s streaming service which is currently vying for dominance against rivals like Spotfiy, which just floated on the New York Stock Exchange with a value of $26.5billion.

In late-March, Jimmy Iovine suggested a shutdown on downloads would take place once ‘people stop buying’, and last week news began to circulate that some members of staff predict this could happen in early 2019, or by 31st March next year.

It’s important to note these dates relate to an official announcement being made about iTunes ceasing music slaes, starting a wind-down process, rather than the point at which the itunes music will actually be taken off-sale.

Apple has also been quick to point out this will not affect people’s ability to play downloaded itunes music on any of the company’s devices, and all tracks previously bought through iTunes, and users’ current iTunes libraries, will still be fully playable. It’s not clear whether there will be changes to the availability of other media, such as movies and TV shows like the forthcoming Above & Beyond documentary.

CSK’s batsman Suresh Raina out of next two IPL games due to calf injury

IPL 2018 : CSK SUresh Raina
Suresh Raina

Chennai Super Kings, experienced batsman Suresh Raina has been ruled out of the franchise’s next two Indian Premier League matches due to a calf injury. The 31-year-old sustained the injury during CSK’s happy homecoming at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, where the home franchise went on to clinch a five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the last-over thriller on Tuesday.

Suresh Raina needed medical attention on Tuesday after completing a single against West Indies’ Sunil Narine in the 10th over of the chase. He struggled to run between the wickets before eventually dismissing for 14 off 12 balls. Raina experienced pain and required medical attention from the team physio Tommy Simsek after completing a single against West Indies’ Sunil Narine in the 10th over. He struggled to run between the wickets before being eventually dismissed for 14 runs.

As a result, the Indian batsman Raina will miss CSK’s next two IPL games against Kings XI Punjab on April 15 and Rajasthan Royals on April 20. It will be the first time that Raina will miss a match for the Chennai Super Kings, having played all of their134 previous IPL matches and helped them make it to the playoffs on eight occasions, and win the trophy twice.

The news of Raina’s absence from the upcoming two matches comes just a few hours after Chennai Super Kings’ lost their home advantage after all of their remaining home matches moved to Pune. Pune will serve as the home venue of Chennai Super Kings for the remaining six games, it was confirmed on Wednesday (April 11). This isn’t the first time CSK have been forced to play their home games outside of Chennai. Google’s Gmail is about to get a makeover soon

Google Gmail

Google is currently working on plans to implement a string of major design tweaks to Gmail, which will come into effect over “the coming weeks”.

According to reports, The upgrade was revealed in a message from Google to administrators of G Suite accounts—G Suite being the suite of Google services that organizations can use on their own web domains, rather than Google’s.

The message stated that the changes would be coming to consumer Gmail accounts, as well as G Suite accounts.

Google said the refresh would include not only a “fresh, clean look for Gmail on the web,” but also easy ways to access other Google services, such as Google Calendar, from the web app.

The company recently started winding down its Chrome apps for all platforms but Google’s own Chrome OS. Windows, Mac and Linux users are now being encouraged to instead use Google’s web apps, and it’s only logical that those interfaces are now getting upgraded to include the functionality that would otherwise be lost.

That functionality includes native offline support, which Google said would be part of Gmail on the web by June. Users of the mobile app will already be familiar with the “smart reply” feature that scans the incoming message for wording that demands a response, then suggests responses to save the user from having to type them in. That too is now coming to Gmail’s web service.

Another new feature for the web app will be the ability to “snooze” emails, so that they reappear later at a set time.

With successful launch of navigation satellite IRNSS-1I, ISRO completes India’s own GPS

ISRO ,इस्रो

Launch of navigation satellite IRNSS-1I :  With successful launch of PSLV-C41 rocket carrying India’s eighth navigation satellite IRNSS-1I from Sriharikota at 4.04am on Thursday , ISRO completes India’s own GPS.

The textbook launch of PSLV-C41 took place in four stages and the total time taken for the rocket to put the satellite into the intended orbit was 19 minutes.

IRNSS-1I carries two types of payloads: Navigation and Ranging. While the first transmits signals for determination of position, velocity and time, the latter facilitates determination of the satellite’s range. The atomic clocks are part of the navigation payload of the satellite, while the ranging payload consists of a C-band transponder, which facilitates accurate determination of the range of the satellite and it also carries Corner Cube Retroreflectors for Laser ranging. Serving both military and civilian needs, NavIC satellites will broadcast highly-accurate timing signals that a receiver can use to triangulate its location. NavIC is designed to provide accurate position information service to users in the India as well as the region extending up to 1,500 km from its boundary.

IRNSS-1I weighing 1,425kg and with a life span of 10 years has become the eighth satellite to join the constellation of navigation satellites called NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) or popularly known as IRNSS or ‘desi’ GPS.

Why was the IRNSS-1I needed?

Navigation satellite IRNSS-1I has been launched to replace India’s first navigation satellite IRNSS-1A, whose three Rubidium atomic clocks had stopped working two years ago.

In August’17, ISRO had attempted to launch the IRNSS-1H to replace the IRNSS-1A. However, the mission failed as the IRNSS-1H got stuck in the heat shield of the PSLV carrying it. The IRNSS-1H is still stuck in the rocket, and will ultimately fall to the Earth.

Safe and Healthy Ways Seniors Can Start Losing Weight Right Now

Safe and Healthy Ways Seniors Can Start Losing Weight Right Now

It’s no secret that it’s harder to lose weight with age. Previous reports have indicated that the majority of baby boomers are overweight or obese—which makes one wonder if age is to blame or our modern-day society. There are many health risks associated with carrying extra weight, including diabetes, heart disease, certain types of cancer, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis. With more of the boomer population working in their mid-60s and beyond while wanting to stay in their own home versus going to an assisted-living facility, remaining as healthy as possible should be at the top of your list. This includes maintaining a safe weight. When it comes to weight loss, there’s no reason to reinvent the wheel, yet there are some specific points to keep in mind if you’re a senior.

Set Up a Home Gym

The gym environment can be intimidating for anyone, but some seniors may not feel comfortable mingling with the young professional crowd. Also, membership dues can be expensive, so money may be an issue, too. Setting up a home gym can be a great way to stay motivated to work out in familiar surroundings. Not to mention, there’s not the hassle of having to drive somewhere. Investing in multi-use equipment like flexible resistance bands and dumbbells can go a long way. A yoga mat is also a good way to protect knees when doing floor exercises and/or yoga or Pilates. Look for gently used equipment online or at a local second-hand store. Since it can be difficult to figure out what constitutes an effective routine, a workout DVD can be a great source of guidance. Those who are more tech savvy will find an abundance of apps that offer valuable diet, exercise, and health-related information.

Dos and Don’ts of Exercise

  • Do: The best exercises for seniors incorporate balance, endurance, strength, and flexibility. For example, these can include walking, stretching, tai chi, gardening, cycling, light weight lifting, standing push-ups (against a wall), seated leg lifts, balance walking, and tennis ball squeezes. Of course, any activity that causes pain or discomfort should be discontinued immediately.
  • Don’t: While limitations to exercise depend on numerous factors like flexibility, mobility, and previous surgeries, some moves should be avoided simply due to age. For example, standing toe touches, abdominal crunches from the floor, behind-the-neck lateral pull-downs, stair climbing, and trunk twists should be avoided.

Dos and Don’ts of Dieting

  • Do: Figure out your daily caloric needs. Due to loss of muscle (which lowers metabolism) and being less active, seniors don’t need as many calories as they used to. The exact amount varies dependent upon activity level and nutritional needs. It’s not a bad idea to speak with a nutritionist who can craft a go-to plan that eliminates any ambiguity.
  • Don’t: Seniors are more sensitive to foods with high bacterial count, so it’s best to avoid them despite health benefits. Some examples are sprouts, sushi (and oysters, clams, and mussels), diet foods, raw eggs, multigrain bread, unpasteurized milk and juice, raw meat, and soft cheeses.

Before starting any diet or exercise program, seniors should check with their physicians first. It’s likely that there are specific dietary needs and/or mobility restrictions to take into consideration, so honesty is the best policy when it comes to any lifestyle changes. Whether someone is getting back into the game or starting a program for the first time, slow and steady wins the race when it comes to achieving and maintaining weight loss.

NMC to handover city bus service to Metro Rail

City Bus नागपूर Nagpur आपली बस

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is mulling a proposal to hand over its public transport, that is in heavy losses, to Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) for further operations.

The proposal will be moved through Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) for the nod of State Government. The proposal is likely to come up before the board of Smart City in April.

Transport Department of NMC is operating 380 buses at 132 different routes travelling almost 81,000 kms area per day. As per record, NMC is carrying 1.75 lakh passengers including students in these buses. Still it is not a profit making venture as total seating capacity of the buses is 4 lakhs per day. It is necessary to increase the ridership of the buses or reduce the fleet of each bus from 200 kms per day to 100 kms per day.

A senior officer on the condition of anonymity said, “A proposal is under consideration of the administrative wing and political leadership of civic body to entrust responsibility of public transport to NMRCL. This will reduce the financial burden of NMC and Metro Rail will be operating all the public transport of the city.”

Civic Body is incurring loss of Rs 85 crore per annum and it is impossible for it to sustain further loss due to ever declining revenue. Nagpur Metro Rail operations will create further worry for the civic body as maximum passengers will opt for Metro Rail to move from one destination to other. Nagpur Metro Rail will also start feeder services to cater to areas within vicinity of 3 to 5 kms of Metro Station to increase its ridership.

NMRCL will be having 42 stations along with two corridors- from Prajapati Nagar to Hingna and Butibori to Maruti Automotive. The metro rail will cover total 42 kms in the city and bus connectivity will increase the commuters of the metro.

NMRCL will be incharge of unified public transport and it will provide services according to its requirement. This will not create any conflict with the public transport service providers in the city.

Commonwealth Games 2018: Mary Kom in final

India boxing star MC Mary Kom defeated Sri Lanka’s Anusha Dilruksh to enter the final of the women’s 48 kilogram category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Wednesday.

Mary registered a 5:0 win against the veteran Sri Lankan fighter. The 39-year-old Anusha gave a good account of herself against the five-time world champion Indian before falling short in the end. Both boxers were a bit cautious in the opening round, trying to gauge each other although Mary managed to land several punches.

Although the Lankan had the height and reach advantage, Mary used a low guard and used her reflexes and feet movement to take the advantage.

Both boxers were equally matched in the second round before the tempo picked up in the third as Mary picked up the points with a steady barrage of punches.

Later in the day, Laishram Sarita Devi fell short in the women’s 60kg category, going down to Australia’s Anja Stridsman in the quarter-finals.

Sarita did well to trouble her opponent with superior technique and excellent movements throughout the fight and it came as surprise of sorts when the judges decided to award a unanimous 5:0 verdict in favour of the Australian.

Sarita dominated the opening round, attacking right from the start while the Australian had a more defensive approach.

The tempo picked up in the second round as Anja tried to match Sarita’s pace and aggression. The Indian used her superior technique and experience in her attempt to outpunch her opponent, but Anja did well to give her a tough challenge.

Both boxers came out fighting in the third round. Anju used her superior height and strong left jabs in her attempt to keep the Indian at bay.
