Debuting as Banega Swacch India 8 years ago, for promoting hygiene and cleanliness, the campaign transformed into Banega Swasth India, taking forward Gandhiji’s assertion that cleanliness and health are intertwined. Every year highlighted themes on good hygiene practices, clean environment and health, how a healthy India is a prosperous India and how no Indian must be left behind in the quest for good health.

Season 9’s theme Lakshya Sampoorn Swasthya Ka, focuses on holistic good health for every Indian regardless and of their backgrounds. To build a future where every Indian has access to good health care and to improve average life expectancy to 80 years of age through innovation, technology, access to medical care and focused self-care. The 12-hour telethon attended by Ministers representing different states, experts from the WHO, innovators, doctors, artists and health care workers who function on the frontlines helping the most vulnerable people, focused on how we can achieve the goal of holistic health for all, setting the tone for the new year of the Campaign.

Empower women for better society: Dr Mohan Bhagwat

Empower women for better society: Dr Mohan Bhagwat
Empower women for better society: Dr Mohan Bhagwat
  • Dr Bhagwat laid emphasis on respecting and involving women in all sectors

Laying stress on empowering women along with men, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarasanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat said, unless women are granted equal status and opportunities, the nation would not develop. Strengthening women is responsibility of entire society and should begin from our own home.

Dr Bhagwat was speaking during the annual Shastra Pujan and Vijayadashami celebrations at RSS headquarters, Reshimbag, here on Wednesday. Padma Shri and renowned mountaineer Santosh Yadav was the guest of honour.

The trend of progress made by the nation in all the sectors is being accepted and appreciated globally. The indication of working towards self-reliance can be seen. The Indian society is being rejuvenated and the trend can be seen in various sectors including sports, education and economy. The route to the progress is not easy, unless entire society joins hand voluntarily. This is only possible with thinking of the nation first, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sects and cooperation, Dr Bhagwat said.

The expected healthy and progressive society is possible with respectable equal opportunity and strength to women. The policy should be framed which is flexible and accepted by all. The hurdles in this path are internal and external.

The essence of Indian Sanatan Dharma is in wishing welfare of all and working for happiness of others. The mindset of our own people has to change. The forces from within and from outside are consistently making efforts to weaken our strengths by spreading divide based on religion and caste. The Sanatan Dharma accepts all irrespective of the faith, religion, language, caste, dressing pattern, food. Only the love for the global society and then environment is given utmost importance, Dr Bhagwat stated. “We must understand the motives of the divisive forces and reject them”, he added.

A large number of social organisations and the government is working towards welfare of the society. They can be successful only with the unbiased support of the society.

Touching upon various sectors Dr Bhagwat said education in mother tongue is being stressed under the National Education Policy. It is wrong that career can be built only by learning through English medium. The path of career is not English, but gaining knowledge and using it in consonance with our conscience for the betterment of the society. Better values can be inculcated by parents and teachers and other family members. These values are related to humanity and not materialistic gains for self.

Health is another sector, where demand for better health services is increasing. But maintaining physical and mental health of the society is more important. Heavy emphasis on materialistic gains is disturbing health of the society and resultantly economy of the nation.

Unless women play important role in education and health the society cannot be healthy, Dr Bhagwat said. Referring to population as a problem, Dr Bhagwat said uncontrolled population may pose danger, particularly on food security. But control should not create imbalance in the society.

The issue of discussion with Muslims by RSS functionary is not new. RSS believes in bringing together people from all walks of life. Discussion with Muslim leaders started when Golwalkar Guruji was the chief of RSS. Without understanding the efforts and manner in which RSS volunteers function, hate is propagated against it and the Hindu culture. “We expect that any wrong in the society should be condemned by the entire society, irrespective of religion, caste or region.

In bring about the desired change in the society, empowering women and involving them in all the sectors is essential, Dr Bhagwat said.

Santosh Yadav

Padma Shri Santosh Yadav, who is the only female mountaineer to scale the Everest twice is an environmentalist and a motivational speaker also laid emphasis on the Sanatan Sanskar, which speaks of equality for all. She spoke of positivity in thinking, inspirational talks, healthy thinking, love and affection for all, which is essence of Sanatan Sanskriti.

The biased and prejudiced approach can be shed away by knowing about RSS thoughts and functioning. Building a better Indian society, where everyone is respected, is responsibility of all of us, she added. This will ensure peaceful and healthy existence of the mother Earth and entire human society.

Celebrate the festive season without the ‘weight-gain’ guilt with these simple food moderation’s

Optimize Your Workout Routine With Almonds by Yasmin Karachiwala, Well-known Fitness and Celebrity Master Instructor

By Yasmin Karachiwala, Well-known Fitness and Celebrity Master Instructor

For each of us the festive season has a different meaning, and there are different aspects to look forward to. However, there is one thing that’s common across cities, cultures and families – and this is the abundance of delicious food. Festivals are a prime time to indulge in decadent food – sweet or savoury, and it is during this time most of us throw caution to the wind, and in several cases over binge.  With the festive season here, and festivities fully abuzz, be sure to follow these tips to stay fit and healthy even during the celebrations:

  • Replace typical festive snacks with healthy alternatives like Almonds!

Traditionally any festive spread includes indulgent food and friend snack, most of which aren’t known to be healthy. Think samosas, shakkarpara, pooris, chips, chakli – most of these definitely feature during the festivities. To avoid snacking on oily and fried food, my first tip is to replace them with healthier alternatives like Almonds. Almonds make for a tasty snack, which will also add positively to your health. Almonds provide energy and will keep you active through the festivities. Besides this almonds are known to have satiating properties, which will help keep you full in between meals. So while shopping for your snacks, be sure to add almonds to the cart to enjoy a healthier festive season. When it comes to eating them, you could choose to consume them plain, salted, roasted or even flavoured. Alternately if you like experimenting, try making a batch of Rasam Spiked Almonds or Channa Masala Almonds by mixing your flavours to create healthy, and yet tasty snacks which your guests and you can easily munch on.

  • Dark Chocolate for dessert!

Any festival is incomplete without sweet – homemade or otherwise, sweet sugar laden dishes are a staple during the festivities. My tip here is, instead of adding typical desserts like barfi or gulab jamun, opt for unconventional forms of sweet like dark chocolate. Dark chocolate, generally contains less sugar than milk chocolate and is also a rich source of antioxidants and minerals. However, although dark chocolate is a good alternative to sweets, moderation is the key. When you have the craving, you can indulge a little. Besides this, there are several ways in which you can dark chocolate in your diet, ensuring your cravings are satisfied but in moderation: You can grate it over your fruit salads, giving it a bitter-sweet taste or even melt the dark chocolate over a saucepan and dip roasted almonds/ cut fruits like strawberries into it, to snack on when hunger strikes.

  • Just grill it!

Deep frying food usually saturates all the nutrients they contain and while the end result might be tasty but overall they aren’t the healthy choice. When any food is fried, it absorbs a lot of fat and ends up becoming a high calorie food. Over a period of time, this can cause unhealthy weight gain as well. To make sure your festive food is delicious yet healthy, my tip is – instead of frying, opt for grilling food. For instance you can make grilled vegetable kebabs and stuff it in paneer or your pick of vegetables such as carrots, beans, onions, capsicums, etc. Add some spices along with it and you will definitely not end up feeling guilty about your choice. Grilling is better as the resultant food is low in calorie than fried foods and most importantly it makes sure the nutrient content in the food is intact.

Working out and maintaining a healthy diet are two sides of the same coin. While you are trying to avoid typical festive snacks with healthy alternatives, also try to include some basic forms of workout into your routine. As most of you might be wary of going to a gym, you can do some body weight workouts in the comfort of your home. Some of the body weight workouts include squats, push-ups, lunges, crunches and planks – the best part is you don’t require any equipment! Try incorporating any form of workout in your daily routine for at least 30-45 min daily.

Mohammed Siraj replaces Bumrah for T20I series against SA

Mohammed Siraj on Friday replaced injured pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for India’s remaining two T20 International matches against the visiting South African team.

Bumrah was on Thursday ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Mohd. Siraj as replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in the statement on Friday.

“Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.”

The 28-year-old Siraj, a right-arm pacer, has so far played in five T20Is and picked up five wickets from them. His last T20I match was against Sri Lanka at Dharamsala in February this year.

India lead the three-match T20I series against South Africa 1-0 after a comprehensive eight-wicket win in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. The second and third matches will be played in Guwahati (October 2) and Indore (October 4).

Indian squad for South Africa T20Is: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Umesh Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohd Siraj.

According to PTI, Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a back injury. Bumrah missed the Asia Cup 2022 as well as the first T20I against South Africa. His injury is a significant setback for India’s chances at the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian team’s marquee pacer, has reportedly been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a back injury. Bumrah is said to have suffered a stress fracture in his back, which will take 4 to 6 months to heal.

As per a report in PTI, Bumrah will not require surgery for the serious back injury but his chances of returning for the T20 World Cup are next to none. Bumrah trained only for a single day in Trivandrum and has now reportedly been sent to the NCA.

Bumrah had also missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury before marking his return in the T20I series against Australia. He played the second and the third T20I against Australia but was ruled out of the 1st T20I against South Africa as well.

The pace marksman was reportedly not fully fit to face the Proteas. However, it has recently been reported that Bumrah’s injury is quite serious. Bumrah’s absence from the Indian team is significant, especially given how Indian pacers were thrashed in the Asia Cup.

Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, and Avesh Khan are all talented, but none of them can match Bumrah’s ability with the ball. Though Harshal and Arshdeep performed admirably in Bumrah’s absence against South Africa in Trivandrum on Wednesday, pinning all hopes on them in the T20 World Cup may be asking too much.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official statement on the state of Bumrah’s injury. Some former cricketers even felt that Bumrah’s return for the Australia series was a premature one. A few even recommended giving Bumrah an extended break to have him fit for the T20 World Cup in Australia. But now, it seems the case is already over.

Indian cricket team for T20 World Cup 2022:

KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Rohit Sharma (c), Mohammad Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, and Deepak Chahar are on standby.

Single Women Have Right to Abortion, Rules SC

Single Women Have Right to Abortion, Rules SC

The Supreme Court has held that all women are entitled to safe and legal abortion. The court says the marital status of a woman can’t be grounds to deprive her of the right to abort an unwanted pregnancy.

“Single and unmarried women have the right to abort under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act & rules till 24 weeks of pregnancy.

“The meaning of rape must be held, including marital rape, for purpose of Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act,” the court rules. The court says the distinction between married and unmarried women is “artificial and constitutionally unsustainable”. It perpetuates the stereotype that only married women indulge in sexual activities, the court said.

A three-judge bench of justices D Y Chandrachud, J B Pardiwala and AS Bopanna had reserved its verdict last month on the issue of interpretation of the MTP Act and said it will allow ‘unmarried’ or ‘single’ woman the benefit of abortion up to 24 weeks.

The court had said last month that it would “fine-tune” the provisions listed under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act in a manner that there is no discrimination between ‘married’ and ‘unmarried’ women and allow them the benefit of abortion till up to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Good news: Dearness Allowance hiked by 4% for Central Govt employees, pensioners

Good news: Dearness Allowance hiked by 4% for Central Govt employees, pensioners

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved a 4 percent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees and pensioners, according to media reports. The announcement will benefit about 47.68 lakh Central Government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners and is also applicable for civilian employees and those employed in defence services.

After today’s hike of 4 percent, the total DA paid to Central Government employees will reach 38 per cent. DA is a part of the salary which is calculated as a specific percentage of the basic salary which is then added to the basic salary. Since the effective date for the latest dearness announcement hike is July 1, the staff would be paid the arrears with their latest salaries.

The Central Government revises dearness allowance and dearness relief on January 1 and July 1 every year, but this decision is usually announced in March and September.

Previously, in March, the Cabinet had approved the proposal to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners by 3 per cent to 34 per cent of the basic pay from 31 per cent previously, effective January 1, 2022. The government, at the time, paid employees three months in arrears.

Any changes to the dearness allowance are made as per the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission to compensate for the rise in prices. With retail inflation, or consumer price inflation, elevated above the upper-end of the Reserve Bank of India’s target range of 2-6 per cent each month, the DA was hiked by 4 per cent to 38 per cent of basic pay.

All those who are paid based on the 7th Pay Commission will get an increase of Rs 720 in DA on the basic salary of Rs 18,000, and this increase will be Rs 1,000 per month if the basic salary is 25,000. Similarly, those who were getting Rs 50,000 basic salary will now get a benefit of Rs 2,000 per month, and those with a basic salary of Rs 1,00,000 will get a benefit of Rs 4,000 in total salary after the 4 per cent increase in dearness allowance.

The grant of Dearness Relief (DR) to Central Government pensioners and family pensioners will also be applicable at the same revised rate, as it has been fixed for the employees, from July 1. The pension disbursing authorities, including the nationalized banks, will calculate the quantum of DR payable to each pensioner as per the individual case.

The revised rates will be applicable to central government pensioners, civilian central government pensioners/family pensioners, the armed forces pensioners, civilian pensioners paid out of the defence service, all India service pensioners, railway pensioners/family pensioners, and pensioners who are in receipt of provisional pension.

The much-awaited decision on the recruitment of police personnel at the constable level is being fulfilled by the Maharashtra Government. The cabinet took a decision to recruit about 20,000 constables to the police force.

With the growing population and delay in recruiting police personnel, the police force was facing problems in maintaining law and order situation. Crime in the state has also increased.

The decision to recruit 20,000 constables would benefit the police force.

Development Boards: The cabinet on Tuesday also decided to reconstitute the Development Boards for Vidarbha, Marathwada and Rest of Maharashtra. The boards remained vacant for the last several years.

The most affected regions are stated to be Vidarbha and Marathwada. The backlog of the Vidarbha region, as calculated by the Kelkar Committee is difficult to be removed. But it is alleged that even efforts to reduce the backlog were not made. The demand for a separate Vidarbha is growing because of the continuous exploitation of resources from the region and giving nothing in return.

First, the location of new projects need not be in locations where land cost was high; he suggested looking at project locations where low-cost housing for common citizens could be done.

Secondly, he suggested fiscal prudence – not to opt for finance at high rates of interest which would severely impact project viability. Third, he suggested implementing technology which would bring down costs while ensuring quality of construction. He gave the example of opting to use steel fiber instead of steel bars as also technology which enabled safe and secure construction at a much lower cost.

While giving the new NAREDCO Vidharbha Chapter his best wishes, the Hon’ble Minister spoke of the need for real estate to opt for new solutions – like using ethanol in place of diesel; of enhanced usage of Electric Vehicles for transporting material to construction sites – which would help reduce cost of construction.

Referring to new development opportunities from the government, the Hon’ble Minister mentioned 8 new multi modal logistics parks in Maharashtra, which he said real estate developers could play a major role in creating.

Taking a leaf from ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, he also spoke about infra projects opting for InVits for financing, opening up an investment opportunity for the common man, while ensuring freedom from foreign funding. Nagpur and the Vidarbha region offer some opportunities for developers in terms of infrastructure projects, and the Hon’ble Minister suggested that real estate developers could opt to participate in such projects, and play their role in building the nation.

A report by global professional services firm Aon says despite global macroeconomic conditions and rising inflation, salaries in India are likely to increase by 10.4 per cent on average in 2023, compared to an actual increase of 10.6 per cent to date in 2022.

Moreover, the pressure on salaries is being retained as the attrition rate for the first half of 2022 continued to be high at 20.3 per cent, only marginally lower than the 21 per cent recorded in 2021. Aon report says this trend is expected to continue for the next few months.

“Despite the global recessionary headwinds and volatile domestic inflation, salary increases projected in India for 2023 are in the double digits,” said Roopank Chaudhary, partner, Human Capital Solutions at Aon in India.

“Business leaders, however, must make decisions that ensure their workforce remains resilient today as well as into the future,” Chaudhary added.

As per the report, with an expected salary hike of 12.8 per cent, e-commerce leads sectors with the highest projected increase, followed by start ups at 12.7 per cent, hi-tech/information technology and information technology-enabled services at 11.3 per cent, and financial institutions at 10.7 per cent.

“As the broader economic circumstances impact the talent landscape, businesses must create holistic rewards strategies unique to their situation and sector to retain and attract the talent they need,” said Jang Bahadur Singh, director, Human Capital Solutions at Aon in India.

NAREDCO Vidarbha Sets The Trend For Structured Real Estate Development

NAGPUR 24 SEPTEMBER 2022: Structured real estate development with a holistic perspective has been the thought process among stake holders in the Vidarbha region. In keeping with this thought process, the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Vidarbha chapter commenced activities with the aim of ensuring transparency and accountability in real estate development in the region.

The NAREDCO Vidarbha chapter was inaugurated at a glittering ceremony in Nagpur on 24 September. The event saw Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis laud the formation of the Vidarbha chapter of NAREDCO, saying it would lead to transparency, accountability and make things easier for the home buyer across the Vidarbha region, just as in other parts of the country where RERA has brought in an environment of safe and secure real estate transactions.

He mentioned how the Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde was in agreement on the need to create a positive environment for real estate growth, as it reflects upon the economic growth and development. “It should be the larger community which should be the focus of NAREDCO Vidarbha, and not just real estate as an industry,” he added. Mentioning that Vidarbha real estate would gain from the Samruddhi Mahamarg, with logistics and warehousing becoming the next big thing, with expressway linkages to Goa, Hyderabad and Delhi making Vidarbha and Nagpur the centre-point in India’s economic growth story. “Expressways like the Samruddhi Mahamarg open up vistas of real estate development, including townships as also ‘sunrise sectors’ including logistics and data centres,” he added.

Earlier, NAREDCO President Rajan Bandelkar spoke about the change which NAREDCO Maharashtra had brought about, and how Devendra Fadnavis had played an important role in the initial stages of setting up MahaRERA. Lauding the contribution of Gautam Chatterjee, the former MahaRERA head, the NAREDCO National President said he hoped the same process would be emulated by the Vidarbha chapter, leading to real estate playing its role in accelerating economic growth.

Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, Vice Chairperson, NAREDCO said Vidarbha was poised for economic growth, with real estate being the driver. He pointed out that various issues relating to real estate were faced different challenges, leading to delays, which needed resolution. Terming Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as the next frontier which would drive economic growth, Dr Hiranandani said Devendra Fadnavis had done much for Maharashtra’s development, he specifically mentioned how Nagpur’s youngest Mayor had done yeoman work during his tenure as chief minister. He added that there were high expectations from him, and that he hoped this time too, he would ‘work his magic’ leading to the state’s economic growth.

Shri Ghanshyam Dhokne who took over as the first President of the Vidarbha Unit said setting up of the NAREDCO Chapter had created high expectations from all stakeholders in Vidarbha, and he hoped the expectations would come true. “The aim of NAREDCO Vidarbha is to create a structured industry, which will result in economic growth of the region,” he concluded.

ABOUT NAREDCO: National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) was established as an autonomous self-regulatory body in 1998 under the aegis of Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India. We, the members of Rani Laxmibai Durga Utsav Mandal, have been successfully organizing the Navratri festival for the last 16 years with massive participation of citizens from the entire central India area. Every year, we organise a slew of socio-cultural programmes depicting issues like India’s freedom struggle, illiteracy, autism, and child labour among others.
This year, we’re coming up with a theme based pandal titled Swapnalok (Dreamland), which would be exquisitely crafted by artist Nihar Debnath and his big team of workers from Siliguri in West Bengal. The entire team has been camping here at our volleyball ground since the last couple of months for erecting the pandal. The pandal would be first of its kind in entire Maharashtra and would attract heavy crowds from entire central India. Even our beautiful idol is being brought from Kolkata and is crafted by the local artists there. The pandal would remain open for the public from September 26 to October 6.

This year as well, we intend to organize a host of similar programmes like cultural events from children, folk dance, Ras Garba and others. However, the entry to all these events is through invitation only. It would not be open for the visitors. We would also be setting up 25 stalls that would serve various delicacies for the visitors right from juices, tea/coffee to Pav Bhaji, ice cream and other food items.

We will be setting up a pictorial gallery depicting the immense contribution of the city headquartered Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to the country’s development, particularly in the inaccessible and inhospitable areas across the country.

Titled ‘Rashtra Seve Cha Amrut Mohotsav’, the gallery would have rare pictures and videos of commendable work done by the Sangh in the last 75 years and its contribution to the nation’s development. An audio-visual gallery would be put up at the gallery.

The mandal also conducts a lot of social activities throughout the year like visiting ‘Matoshree Old Age Home’ near Adasa and helping them with medicines and food grains, and helping the children with books and study material, cleaning the Laxmi Nagar volleyball ground by members themselves where festival is organized under ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and setting up artificial tanks on Laxmi Nagar grounds for immersion of Ganesh Idols to save the precious water bodies from getting polluted every year.

Starting from scratch in 2006, this mandal has grown over the years to become only in entire Central India to host the Navratri Festival with a variety of socio-cultural programmes that had guaranteed footfalls of over 50,000 visitors per day. A dedicated team of about 50 youngsters and elders, which is a right combination of youthful exuberance and experience, work together round ‘o’ clock to make this event a mega success. News cutting in various newspapers speaks about our work. We take the distinction of being the first Mandal in Vidarbha to have its dedicated website – www.laxminagardurga.in.

This year as well, we would be hosting many socio-cultural programmes aimed at evoking feelings of patriotism among the masses during the nine-day event. We request you, sir, to join us in this purely noble and charitable cause and help us to make it successful by spreading the message of peace and brotherhood in the society.

Previously, a host of popular figures visited our mandal, including noted yesteryear actress Asha Parekh, union minister for road transport Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Rajya Sabha MPs Ajay Sancheti and Vijay Darda and others
