The Diljit Dosanjh starrer Soorma is a story of victory against all odds, resilience, perseverance and most of all, it’s a tale that will inspire the movie-goers of today to give it all even when the odds seem stacked against them.

All of the above can also be said for the recently-released Soorma Anthem, which features our Diljit Paaji as the legendary Sandeep Singh and chronicles the journey of Diljit’s Sandeep from an injured hockey player to the Soorma that he is known as today.

Composed by the trio Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy and penned by Gulzar, the song has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan.

Says Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, “The brief was to create a song that that showcases the trials and tribulations of Sandeep Singh and yet make it about how he stood tall in spite of it. The song is just that and I am sure it will become an anthem for every fighter out there.”

Honor 7X receives price cut in India, Now Available From Rs 11,999

Honor 7X

Launched late last year, the Honor 7X remains one of the best smartphones in its price segment. However, increasing competition from the Redmi Note 5 devices and the Zenfone Max Pro M1 has seemingly forced a minor price-correction which keeps the device relevant in a segment that has become ground zero for smartphone wars in India.

The 3GB+32GB model of the Honor 7X will now start at Rs. 11,999, while the 4GB + 64GB model will now be available for Rs. 14,999. While the former was launched at Rs. 12,999, the latter came with a Rs. 15,999 price tag. The new prices are effective today onwards on Amazon India. EMI and Exchange Offers are also available for the device on the e-commerce site.

The company also says that the new models will come with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box in the form of Huawei’s proprietary Android skin, EMUI 8.0. The update started rolling out in the country last month after hitting the US and some other parts of the world in April.

The new software brings a whole host of new features, including software-based Face Unlock, a Gaming Mode for smoother gameplay, a Power Saving mode to optimize battery life, an Uninterrupted Mode to stop interruptions during full-screen usage, and locked navigation keys to avoid accidental presses during gaming sessions.

The update also brings a safety feature called ‘Ride Mode’ that notifies the caller that the user is currently riding and cannot answer calls. There’s also a shortcut to the Paytm app that will allow users to assign a specific fingerprint to Paytm in order to bypass all the other steps and land directly on the app’s payment section. The default camera app is also getting a new AR Lens feature that allows users to preview AR effects even before clicking an image.

Nagpur secured 55th rank in Swachh Survekshan 2018

nagpur

NAGPUR: Though touted as one of the country’s five greenest cities, Nagpur slipped to 55 among 100 cities with one lakh plus population in Central government’s Swachh Survekshan this year.

In 2016, the city was ranked 20th among 73 cities with a population of over 10 lakh and in 2017, it stood 137th among 434 cities. The city has clearly slipped as compared to its performance in last two rankings.

Among 100 cities with less than 1 lakh population, Katol in Nagpur district is placed 5th nationally with a score of 3,041 out of 4,000, in the rankings released by the ministry of housing and urban affairs on Saturday.

On a positive note, Nagpur has been adjudged best in the country in ‘Innovation and Best Practices’ category. The NMC also received the award for Smart Watches project titled ‘Soft Asset Geo-Fencing and Tracking for NMC employees’.

Union minister of state (independent charge) Hardeep Singh Puri presented the award to officiating mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation Deepraj Pardikar, municipal commissioner Virendra Singh, former municipal commissioner Ashwin Mudgal and deputy municipal commissioner Jayant Dandegaonkar at a programme held at Indore on Saturday. PM Narendra Modi was chief guest at the programme.

Fifty-eight cities from Maharashtra – including five from Vidarbha – were among the 100 participating cities with less than 1 lakh population. Katol is ranked 3rd in the state after Panchgani and Shirdi.

Best smartphones to buy in 2018

Smartphone

Getting a smartphone is no easy task and finding the balance between performance and price can be another challenge. Users have an array of choices when it comes to picking up smartphones: flagship phones, big battery phones, selfie phones, Android phones, iPhones, Camera-centric phones and so on. With so much choice is available, has come up with a definitive list of smartphones that are some of the best options available in the market. From the iPhone X to OnePlus 6 to Xiaomi Redmi 5A, here’s a list of smartphones that are worth checking out.

Best smartphone above Rs 80,000

Apple iPhone X

The iPhone X is the best smartphone Apple has ever released. The iPhone X remains the top performing smartphone, with a beautiful OLED screen, capable dual-cameras, all-day battery life, FaceID, and a glass-backed design.

Apple-iPhone-X

The performance is also satisfactory, after all, it is powered by Apple’s custom Bionic A11 chipset. Sure, it is an expensive smartphone at Rs 84,990 but it’s worth it.

Best smartphone between Rs 50,000 – Rs 70,000

Samsung Galaxy S9+

Samsung Galaxy S9+ is a complete smartphone, with a gorgeous 6.2-inch Super AMOLED bezel-less display, an incredible dual-camera setup, snappy Exynos 9810 processor, solid construction, and a stellar battery life. Oh yes, it has a headphone jack and a microSD card slot for extra storage as well.

Drawbacks include the fact that Samsung is slower to update the smartphone to the latest version of Android. It’s quite expensive at Rs 64,900, but if you need a great Android smartphone, it’s worth considering.

Huawei P20 Pro

We liked the Huawei P20 Pro for two simple reasons: excellent tiple-lens cameras and an impressive 4000mAh battery. The camera, of course, is a stand-out feature on the P20 Pro. After all, this is the first smartphone on the market to feature a triple-camera setup, comprising a 40MP RGB sensor, a 20MP monochrome sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens. But isn’t the only highlight of the P20 Pro: it also comes with a 4000mAh battery that easily lasts a day-and-half on a single charge.

The 6.1-inch OLED screen is impressive and so is the performance. What we didn’t like about the P20 Pro is Huawei’s EMUI interface, which still needs a lot of polishing. Even though the Galaxy S9+ is a better phone over the P20 Pro, the latter device still offers a better camera and battery life. The P20 Pro is pricey at Rs 64,999, but it’s worth checking out.

Best smartphone between Rs 30,000 – Rs 40,000

OnePlus 6

OnePlus 6 is a fantastic option for those looking to buy a high-end smartphone at a budget price. And we ain’t joking. It has got a bright 6.28-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6/8GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of internal memory, a dual-camera (16MP+20MP), a 16MP front-facing camera, a 3300mAh battery, and all-new glass design.

No smartphone company has done a better job in cramming the latest specifications and features in a smartphone than OnePlus. Which is why the OnePlus 6 deserves all your attention, even without some extra features like wireless charging, missing microSD support and water resistance. OnePlus 6 retails in India at a starting price of Rs 34,999, which is half the price of the iPhone X or Galaxy S9+.

Best smartphone between Rs 10,000 – Rs 20,000

Motorola G6

Those on a limited budget should look forward to buying the Motorola G6. Sure, it doesn’t have the fastest processor, but the performance is solid and the camera is the best you can get on a mid-end device. Also, the Moto G6 is arguably the best looking mid-end smartphone with a glass-backed design.

All this makes the Moto G6 the top smartphone in the mid-end segment. The base model comes in at Rs 13,999, which is a steal for the price.

Best smartphone below Rs 7,000

Xiaomi Redmi 5A

Redmi 5A has achieved a cult status in India for two simple reasons: an affordable price tag and favorable performance. This is a well-made super smartphone that is worth every penny.

Whether you’re using the Redmi 5A as a daily driver or as a secondary phone, it looks good and does the job well. Frankly, at Rs 5,999, there is no better option than the Redmi 5A.

Mumbai-Nagpur expressway will reduce only 24km travel by spending ₹46,000 crore

The controversy surrounding 701-km Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, considered chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ dream project, seems unending. Questioning its necessity, social activist Ulka Mahajan said this new corridor will help reduce only 24km travel from the existing route, for which the state government is spending around ₹46,000 crore. Social activist Medha Patkar said most of the infrastructure projects such as highways and expressways are being proposed to benefit car manufacturing companies.

Social activists, academics and financial analysts gathered at the inaugural of Peoples’ Convention on Infrastructure Financing in Mumbai alleging that the investments of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and other international financial institutions (IFIs) are causing displacement, dispossession loss of livelihood and propelling inequality and social unrest. The convention was organised ahead of the third annual meeting of AIIB to be held in Mumbai this week.

They have decided to submit a memorandum to AIIB, which will be based on their discussions to be held in 20 workshops starting from Thursday. The organisations will also demand to allow their representatives to attend the AIIB’s annual meeting so that views of affected people can be represented properly.

“The priorities of the government need to be changed. In Maharashtra, after carrying out studies, we requested the state government to make additional provision of ₹26,000 crore in order to improve health, nutrition related schemes and the public distribution system (PDS), which was refused. But for an infrastructure project like Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, they are spending ₹46,000 crore especially when it will reduce only 26km travel compared to the existing route,” said Mahajan, questioning the government’s intentions.

Financial institutions like AIIB are funding infrastructure projects but the necessity for such projects is being created by them only, compelling governments to agree to all their terms and conditions, Mahajan alleged.

While addressing the gathering at YB Chavan auditorium, Patkar said, “Infrastructure projects such as highways and expressways are being proposed to benefit car manufacturing companies. More highways and expressways will allow more car production.”

“In Aurangabad, the state government is providing compensation of ₹3 crore per acre as compensation to the farmers affected by the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway. The 100-acre land was saved from becoming part of a special economic zone (SEZ) project by us but now farmers are giving their land. The issue is not money but fertile land. Is it fair to give up fertile land that feeds generations of people by providing food?” Patkar questioned.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi government is willing to go to any extent to acquire land for projects, she alleged.

NMC to start demolition illegal religious structures from today

Supreme Court has refused to allow CBSE’s appeal in NEET case

The Supreme Court has refused to allow CBSE’s appeal against a Bombay High Court order asking it to give proportionate marks to a batch of candidates, who lost 30 minutes due to the invigilator’s fault during the NEET undergraduate exam 2018.

A vacation bench of justices S Abdul Nazeer and Indu Malhotra directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to comply with the high court’s order within 10 days.

The board had on Wednesday moved the top court against the validity of the June 15 high court order regarding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test which was held on May 6 for admission to MBBS course.

The high court had directed the CBSE to apply the formula suggested by the Supreme Court and award additional proportionate marks to 24 students who had appeared in examination at Nagpur in Maharashtra but were not allowed by the invigilator to write the exam for the stipulated three hours.

Petitioner Vaishnavi Sandeep Maniyar moved the high court claiming that the invigilator allowed them to write the exams from 10.30 AM only, instead of the scheduled 10 AM.

The Supreme Court had in the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) case directed for applying normalisation formula on the basis of answering capacity of the candidates, aspiring for admission to National Law Universities, and allot additional marks in view of technical glitches faced by them.

In the instant case, the high court had directed the CBSE to revise the marks of candidates, release corrected mark-sheet by June 22 and consider them for second round of counselling for admission to MBBS course.

Watch Hyperloop in action for the Mumbai-Pune route in India [Video]

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra recently visited Hyperloop, where he watched the Mumbai-Pune tube demo run. Here is a video of Elon Musk’s much-publicized Hyperloop. The rather futuristic mode of transport will connect Pune and Mumbai. It’s expected that the travel time between the two cities will be just 25 minutes, which is many times lesser than the 3.5 hours it takes to travel by road. Work will soon commence on the 15 Km-long demo track of Virgin Hyperloop One in Pune.

Soon, Virgin HyperlookOne will send engineers to Pune. PMRDA has already identified a 15-km row demonstration track for Hyperloop. What’s really noteworthy is that 70% of the materials and components that will be required for Hyperloop can be sourced from within Maharashtra itself. The Hyperloop will connect central Pune, the Navi Mumbai International Airport and Mumbai in 25 minutes. The high-speed passenger and cargo hyperloop plans to make a whopping 150 million trips on this route annually. This will help passengers save many hours of travel time between the two cities. It will also offer the rapid movement of palletised freight and light cargo between the Port of Mumbai and Pune.

As per an initial pre-feasibility study conducted by Virgin Hyperloop One, the upcoming Pune-Mumbai route is likely to offer social-economic benefits, worth USD 55 billion, such as time savings, reduction in emissions, reduction in accidents and operational cost savings, in over 30 years of operation. The fully electric hyperloop system will also ease the severe expressway congestion between the two important cities of Maharashtra. It’s also expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 150,000 tons annually.

Commenting on his visit to Virgin Hyperloop One, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said,“This was a very fruitful discussion and we should be able to start moving on this project very fast.” Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, commented, “It is an honour to work with the State of Maharashtra and its key stakeholders, sharing their vision to transform not only transportation but wider society.”

The Virgon Hyperloop One is a California-based American company that is working to commercialise the Hyperloop for transporting passengers and cargo at airline speeds but at a fraction of the cost. The concept of Hyperloop transportation was first introduced by American business magnate Elon Musk. One of the potential routes that have been identified for a public-private partnership is the Pune-Mumbai stretch.

Basically, the Hyperloop uses a linear electric motor to accelerate and decelerate an electromagnetically levitated pod through a low-pressure tube. The vehicle can achieve speeds of up to 1080 kmph without facing any sort of turbulence. The entire system is autonomous, quiet and cleaner than conventional modes of transport.

The elevated rail line could be built in the middle or along the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

The elevated rail line could be built in the middle or along the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways has joined hands with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to build a twin rail line along the proposed expressway between Mumbai and Nagpur — a first such coordinated move to execute a transportation project.

Both arms of the government will work together to put the project on the fast track with the aim of drastically cutting travel time on the busy route.

“Spanish consultant Ineco has conducted a feasibility study on constructing a high-speed rail line along the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway and the reports are positive,” a senior Railway Ministry official told IANS.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which is already acquiring land for the proposed expressway, will keep the rail project in mind, he added.

The elevated rail line could be built in the middle or along the proposed 800 km expressway depending on the ground situation, according to a feasibility report.

The official said that twin tunnels and bridges can also be constructed to cross rivers and negotiate hilly areas in a coordinated way for road and rail traffic.

While the feasibility report is being examined by the Railways officials concerned, the Spanish team is set to make a detailed presentation, including on the financial aspect, to the public transporter shortly to take the ambitious project further.

According to the study, travel time will be drastically reduced for both road and train travellers as the expressway will be fully access-controlled while the elevated rail track will ensure an uninterrupted high-speed train journey.

Land acquisition is a serious problem and many rail projects, including the ambitious Dedicated Freight Corridor, have been delayed due to land-related issues. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is also facing the same problem.

Incidentally, the improved road network in the country has taken a toll on the Railways’ business on shorter routes and the national transporter is making a concerted effort to wean away goods and passenger traffic from roads and increase its share.

“It’s a new way of executing the project faster, as the combined efforts to acquire land will ease a major burden for both ministries and pave the way for speedy execution,” the official said.

The Mumbai-Nagpur section is part of the proposed high speed rail corridor between Howrah and Mumbai, the diamond quadrilateral rail project.

Uddhav Thackeray suspects ‘early polls’ behind move of monsoon session to Nagpur

Uddhav Thackeray suspects ‘early polls’ behind move of monsoon session to Nagpur

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said the Maharashtra government’s decision to hold this year’s monsoon session of the state legislature in Nagpur instead of Mumbai hints at a possibility of early polls.

As per convention, the monsoon session is held in Mumbai and winter session in Nagpur.

“The BJP is keen on holding the monsoon session in Nagpur because the party is planning early polls in December instead of May 2019 as per the timetable, so that they may announce some package and perks,” a Sena leader said.

In a departure from convention, the monsoon session of the Maharashtra legislature will be held in Nagpur from July 4 to July 20.

The schedule was finalised in the meetings of the business advisory committees of both houses of the legislature on Tuesday.

Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra, hosts the winter session of the state legislature every year, while monsoon and budget sessions are held in Mumbai.

The speculations about early polls have been doing the rounds since many weeks.

The Last Assembly elections were held in October 2014 in Maharashtra.

A sizeable group of farmers who cultivate Rabi crops would be busy in sowing, so there will be little unrest against the government, said a political observer on the possibility of early polls.

As compared with summer, winter is bearable in Maharashtra where overall sentiment is not against the government, the observer added.

Successful Liver Transplant Surgery At Wockhardt Hospital Nagpur
Successful Liver Transplant Surgery At Wockhardt Hospital Nagpur

Successful Liver transplant surgery was performed on a 50 year old women from Mumbai. It is the 1st Liver Transplant Surgery at Wockhardt Superspeciality Hospital Nagpur. The liver transplant programme was inaugurated last month at Wockhardt Hopsitals, Nagpur. The recipient got her liver from a 33 year old man from Wardha, who was declared brain dead. The donor sustained severe brain injury post accident and was admitted at a hospital in Wardha. The donor family consented for organ donation and were able to save multiple lives with liver donation, kidney donation, skin and cornea donations. Recipient Patient is a 50 year old female and belongs to middle class family. She was diagnosed of liver disease around 2 years ago and she consulted Dr.Gaurav Gupta, Liver Transplant Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals Limited. Patient is cryptogenic cirrhosis with complication of refractory ascites (Repeated water accumulation in abdomen) with multiple episodes of abdominal infections and very high MELD score. Her kidney was also affected due to severity of liver disease. She had multiple hospital admissions for these complications. She had very little time to survive without liver transplant surgery.

Wockhardt was informed about cadaver donor from Wardha on June 4th 2018. The Liver team from Wockhardt Hospitals went to Wardha on June 5th 2018 for donor surgery. With the help of city police ‘green corridor’ was created between Wardha and Nagpur and the team lead by Dr.Anurag Shrimal, Liver transplant Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals Nagpur, brought the organ(Liver) to Nagpur in a short span of one hour. Donor surgery lasted for 3 hours.

“She was a very sick patient and has been following with me for the last many months. We feared she does not have much time left without liver transplant. Her surgery was particularly complicated because of repeated abdominal infections. She was lucky to get a very good young cadaver liver,” Said Dr. Gaurav Gupta, Liver Transplant Surgeon at Wockhardt. Hospitals, Nagpur.

He further added, “we tried to limit the cold ischaemic time ( amount of the time liver is in ice outside body) to a minimum. In spite of the donor being at wardha we were able to limit the cold ischaemia time to less than 6 hours, which also helped in excellent liver graft function post transplant.”

Patient underwent successful liver transplant and was admitted in special transplant room in our ICU. She recovered very well with well functioning liver graft. She was under very strict observation with two dedicated senior ICU nurses taking care of her. We insisted on strict aseptic precautions to prevent post transplant infections. In next few days our physiotherapist and dietician took excellent care of her nutrition and muscle rebuilding exercises. Currently she is recovering well and planned to be discharged this week.

Dr.Anurag Shrimal, 2nd Liver Transplant Surgeon at Wockhardt Nagpur said, “compared to other transplant surgeries, Liver transplant is more complicated. First the whole organ is removed from the recipient and a part of new liver is attached. Entire Venous connections are joined followed by portal and hepatic artery and bile duct. The recipient is transplanted with just a piece of liver which according to body requirement grows to 90% of the actual size within 6 weeks and remaining grows in another 3 – 4months”

Speaking to reporters, the Center Head of Wockhardt Hospitals, Mrs. K Sujatha said that the hospital has the required infrastructure and operation theater facilities to conduct the transplants “We have one of the best Liver Transplant Surgeons and complete in-house team of other doctors and para medical staff who worked very hard to achieve this milestone. Presently all patients go for liver transplant surgery either to Chennai, Hyderabad or Mumbai. With the state of the art facility and best team of doctors available here in Wockhardt Hospital Nagpur, these patients can hope for high end surgeries in our city itself”.

Mrs.Sujatha added, “Wockhardt Team is extremely grateful to Dr.Vibhawari Dani, President ZTCC, Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Secretary ZTCC, Dr.Sudhir Tomey, Head of Liver Allocation committee ZTCC, Mrs Veena Wathore transplant coordinator ZTCC, PSI Ashwini Mahajan and ACP Jameel Ahmed for their dedication to this noble cause. Without their guidance and effort Liver Transplant program would not have been successful. I also admire and salute the strength of the donor family who at the moment of a grave personal loss thought to donate organs of their beloved to save someone else’s life”

Wockhardt Hospital hospitals is a Super speciality unit and has already performed more than 120 Kidney Transplant Surgery. Liver transplant facility was most needed in Central India and Wockhardt Hospitals aims to cater to many needy patients who currently have to visit far end for a treatment.

iPal the babysitting robot gives company to China’s lonely children

China’s young working parents are quite burdened, and have to face the pressures of taking care of their children without the help of large extended families, owing to the lingering impact of the country’s one-child policy.

To ease their burden, Chinese robotics company AvatarMind has come up with a robot, dubbed iPal, which does babysitting.

iPal can babysit, teach maths, and tell jokes

The three-foot-tall iPal was unveiled last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Shanghai.

Besides being a babysitter, iPal can speak two languages (English, and presumably Mandarin), and, through its six-inch screen, give math lessons, and tell jokes to children.

It’s meant to act like a four to eight-year-old, and parents can see and hear everything in iPal’s vicinity via a smartphone app.

(iPal isn’t meant to replace parents or teachers

“The idea for this robot is to be a companion for children. I don’t think the robot can replace parents or teachers. But iPal can be a complementary tool to relieve some of their burden,” said Tingyu Huang, co-founder of AvatarMind.)

The iPal has been priced at $1,400

Additionally, iPal can dance to entertain a child, can read stories and play games.

It also offers software lessons to teach basic programming to young children.

AvatarMind began shipping iPal to Chinese buyers in December 2017 itself.

The robot has been priced at $1,400 and its US release is scheduled for later this year.

There’s no information yet about launches in other markets.

AvatarMind will soon launch a robot for the elderly

The iPal is yet another example of how China‘s robot market is catching up to the needs of its numerous consumers.

AvatarMind also has a robot lined up for the elderly ’empty nesters’ in China who prefer to grow old at home, rather that at old age homes.

The robot, reportedly, will talk to seniors, remind them about medication, and call hospitals if needed.

93% land needed to build the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway: Devendra Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra has completed 93 per cent of land acquisition for the 700-km Mumbai- Nagpur Expressway, according to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

“In less than 12 months, the state has acquired 93 per cent of the land needed to build the Mumbai-Nagpur 700-km super communication highway with 24 nodes or interchanges that will be developed as smart cities along its path,” American brokerage Morgan Stanley said in a note quoting the chief minister as saying.

The note is based on a June 13 meeting between Fadnavis and the brokerage in New York.

According to a recent report, the state requires 8,636 hectares, including 7,290 hectares of private land for the mega expressway project which has run into a controversy due to protests against land acquisitions by various partners, including the Shiv Sena, an ally in his government.

The state is targeting to issue work contracts this month and start the work after the monsoons, according to the media report.

The project is split into 16 packages and 18 companies, including Reliance Infrastructure and Larsen & Toubro among others have bid for 13 of the 16 packages.

The Morgan Stanley note said unlike his predecessors, Fadnavis is focusing on Mumbai as a gateway to Maharashtra and concentrating on improving its infrastructure through projects like metro, new bridges and new airport.

It will take up to five years for the Mumbai infrastructure efforts to fructify, the chief minister said, adding the works will improve the quality of life.

Fadnavis said investments in agriculture went up 30 per cent to USD 1 billion in FY18.The note said in FY19, Fadnavis expects “more upsides” on the 24 per cent growth in GST collections in FY18.

Noting the chief minister’s target to take the state GDP to USD 1 trillion by 2025, it said the share of the state in the national GDP will rise to 20 per cent from the present 15 per cent.

Maharashtra will have to grow at 15 per cent per annum and will become the growth engine for the country for the next five years if the agenda goes as planned, it said.

The film is all the more special, as it marks the onscreen reunion of Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez after their 2014 hit, Kick.

Race 3 was off to a great start at the box office, with an opening day collection of Rs 29.17 crore. If the early figures are anything to go by, Race 3 has dethroned Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani-starrer Baaghi 2 to become the highest opening film of the year so far.

At the trailer launch of Race 3, Salman described it as “a film with big scale music, emotion, action, youth kind, which you watch, whistle in the end and go back home happy”. And if the opening day figures are anything to go by, the audience is lapping it up.

The story of Race 3 revolves around Shamsher Singh (Anil Kapoor), the owner of an arms empire, and his family. His children, twins Sanjana (Daisy Shah) and Suraj (Saqib Saleem), are “sick of this Sikku” aka their half-brother Sikander Singh (Salman Khan). The family has to pull off a bank heist, but with deceit and double-crossings at every corner, will they be able to do it?

Buzz is that the makers of Race 3 are laughing all the way to the bank, with the film having recovered its production costs even before it hit the screens. Race has beat Aamir Khan’s Dangal to fetch the highest satellite deal for a Bollywood film ever. According to reports, the satellite rights of the film have been sold for a staggering Rs 130 crore.

With the next big Bollywood release, Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, hitting the screens on June 29, Race 3 has a two-week window to rake in the moolah.

Scania to shut city’s ethanol-run bus service in two months

Nagpur: In a setback to government efforts to cut down air pollution and also help sugarcane growers at the same time, Swedish bus maker Scania Commercial Vehicles has reportedly decided to shut down India’s first and only eco-friendly ethanol-run bus project. Its operator SST Sustainable Transport Solutions, a fully owned subsidiary of Scania, served notice of termination of service on Thursday to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

CEO of SST Torbjorn Glad in the notice stated company would withdraw its ethanol-run buses and close down its depot from midnight of August 12.

The Volkswagen-owned company has blamed non-fulfilment of contract obligations by the civic body for its decision to discontinue the 19-month-old project of running 55 ethanol-run and 25 bio-gas buses. Scania did not reply four-point questionnaire mailed to it.

Scania has already shut down its plant making ethanol-run buses and bus bodies in Karnataka and also pilot project comprising two ethanol-run and one bio-gas buses in Goa. It has also held back ecofriendly city bus project in Thane.

Scania has demanded Rs 19.73 crore from NMC that includes Rs 9.77 crore pending bills, Rs 7.50 bank guarantee, Rs 1.50 crore liquidated damages and Rs 0.96 crore for hiring workshop. In the notice, Scania has mentioned it would withdraw 25 ethanol-run buses from service with effect from August 12. Clearly, Scania will not be bringing in remaining 30 ethanol-run and proposed 25 bio-gas buses.

Maharashtra to forcibly acquire remainder farmers’ land for Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ dream project — the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway — will soon turn into a nightmare for farmers who have refused to sell their land for the 701-km road.

The state government will invoke the Maharashtra Highways Act, to forcibly acquire the remainder land. Last week, it issued a notification for the compulsory acquisition.

The move is likely to enrage farmers and opposition parties who have hit out at the state government for ‘anti-farmer’ policies.

The project requires 8,636 hectares of land, including 7,290 hectares of private land. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the nodal agency for the project, is yet to take over 1,485 hectares of private land or almost 20%.

The government has given a June 25 deadline to the owners of the remainder land. After the deadline, the government will invoke section 18 of the MHW Act, to forcibly acquire land. After June 25, land owners will get less compensations — only two to four times the ready reckoner price compared to five times in the normal circumstances.

After acquiring the 20% private land, the state hopes to start construction as soon as possible.

“Of 8,636 hectares of land required, we have already acquired 7,145.21 hectares and only 1,485 hectares are yet to be acquired. Of the land to be acquired, 1,408 hectares could not be acquired owing to technical/legal reasons related to title disputes, ownership by religious trusts, forested land, etc. Once land is acquired by the government, we will compensate,” said Radheshyam Mopalwar, vice-chairman and managing director of MSRDC.

The state government recently amended the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 by adding some provisions of the MHW Act in its schedule, to facilitate land acquisition for public projects.

Under the amended land acquisition Act, the government has managed to bypass the mandatory social impact assessment studies and dilute requirement of public consent. Though the land acquisition has been hassle-free in Vidarbha district, where it has crossed 85%, farmers in Nashik and Thane have been resisting the government’s move as large tracts of land here are irrigated.

Activists have warned that the compulsory acquisition would lead to outrage among farmers.

“There will be huge uproar among farmers if they try to forcibly acquire land. It has become a norm for this government to secretly issue notifications by keeping farmers in the dark. Secondly, the percentage of land acquired is misleading. We exposed the authorities with the help of RTI on their lies about percentage related to the acquisition for Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor,” said Ulka Mahajan, an activist fighting against land acquisition

Here’s all about what coding is and how person with a non-technical background can learn it.

What exactly is coding?

Coding is nothing but a set of step-by-step instructions that tells a computer what the user wants it to do. Simply put, it is a list of commands that a computer follows. These sets of instructions-code-are written in a predefined programming language which computer can understand. Coding makes possible the creation of computer software, websites, apps, games, etc.

Why is learning how to code Important?

Apart from tech companies, more and more business in other fields, too, rely on computer codes. Experts say many jobs in the future would require coding skills. So, developing a tech skill in demand would be useful for job seekers as it helps them stand out from the competition. Also, knowing the fundamental ideas behind coding helps to understand the web/app development process.

How to get started with coding?

As mentioned earlier, codes are written in programming languages; so, one should learn these languages. There are many ways to learn them, even online for free or at low cost. Coming to getting started with coding, there are many interactive courses available online offered by websites and even mobile apps. Gold New Poster : Akshay Kumar plays a Bengali hockey player in Reema Kagti’s Gold

Akshay Kumar in Gold

Akshay Kumar plays a Bengali hockey player in Reema Kagti’s Gold

The makers of Akshay Kumar-starrer Gold have released new posters for the film and, in a new trend, also launched English and Hindi versions of the posters. Akshay essays the role of a Bengali hockey player in the pre-Indian independence era. The Reema Kagti film traces the journey of a player who wants to win an Olympic Gold in hockey for independent India, not British India.

Sharing the English poster, the film’s producer Farhan Akhtar tweeted, “All victories begin with a dream. It fills me with immense joy to present to you the official poster of #Gold, a film that is very close to my heart.” In the new posters, Akshay wears a professional, serious look on his face as he is sports a grey striped suit. The foreground shows the entire team while an angry Akshay is seen pulling the Indian tricolour from his suit.

Talking about the film, producer Ritesh Sidhwani had earlier told PTI, “It is not a biopic. It is a completely fictional story but it is set against a real backdrop between 1933-48 India about what the country was, the sports… About hockey. It is not based on any character.”

Gold also features Amit Sadh and Mouni Roy in key roles and will hit the screens on August 15. It marks the Bollywood debut of TV star Mouni.

Spiritual Leader Bhayyuji maharaj commited sucide today

Bhayyuji maharaj

Bhayyuji maharaj , a popular spiritual leader recently given the status of minister by the Madhya Pradesh government, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by shooting himself in the head.

Reports suggest Bhaiyyuji Maharaj, born Uday Singh Deshmukh, shot himself over “domestic issues” at his ashram in Indore. The police have reportedly found a suicide note that indicated that the 50-year-old was “depressed”. He was declared dead at the Bombay hospital in Indore.

“Bhayyuji Maharaj has been brought here in serious condition. Through investigation, it has been found that he shot himself,” police officer Jayant Rathore told before it was confirmed that the guru had died.

Among the first to express his grief was Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had provoked opposition anger earlier this year by appointing Bhaiyyu Maharaj and four other “sadhus” as ministers.

The self-styled guru was known for his links with influential politicians and businessmen. He reportedly counted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar among his followers.

Bhayyuji Maharaj acted as a mediator during the 2011 anti-corruption campaign led by Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal.

He was popular in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Scores of his supporters crowded outside the hospital waiting for news on his condition.

Bhayyuji Maharaj refused to accept minister status saying “a post has no importance to a saint.”

Lacerated by the opposition, the state government justified the controversial move saying it was to facilitate their work as members of a committee for the conservation of the river Narmada.
