Maharashtra Government has organized the Maharashtra Mini Olympic Games 2022-23 from January 2 to January 12 2023. In this event, 39 games are included which will be played in nine districts of the state. The tournament will witness participation of around 1,04,056 people including players, referees and coaches.

Mechanical thrombectomy after 16 hours in acute ischemic stroke at Wockhardt Hospital, Nagpur
Mr. DS, was happily attending his son’s marriage in his village about 350 Kms from Nagpur when he developed acute onset of right hemiparesis with inability to speak. He was referred to us but due to the distance he could reach the hospital about 16 hours from the onset. On arrival his symptoms had progressed and he had severe disabling stroke with right hemiplegia, impaired right sided visual field and global aphasia which means complete inability to speak or understand spoken language. He underwent an emergency MRI brain with angiogram which showed occlusion of the left sided blood vessels of brain with patchy infarcts. These imaging findings pointed towards a clear clinicoradiological mismatch which suggested that his brain still had a significant amount of tissue that was not irreversibly damaged and hence could be saved.
Hence patient was taken for mechanical thrombectomy by Dr. Amit Bhatti- Interventional Neurologist and Stroke Specialist at Wockhardt Hospital, Nagpur and artery was opened using combination aspiration catheter and stent retriever.
Post procedure patient had a remarkable recovery within 24 hours of procedure. After 3 months of follow up, the patient had recovered completely.
Mechanical thrombectomy is a novel procedure in which special devices like retrievable stents and aspiration catheters are used to retrieve clot from the vessels in the brain. This is procedure is usually recommended within 6 to 8 hours from the onset of paralysis, however in selected cases the window period can be extended upto 24 hours. So, if patients experience symptoms of stroke like drooping of face to one side, imbalance, loss of vision, weakness of arms or leg of one side or difficulty in speaking or understanding spoken language then they should immediately rush to a stroke-thrombectomy ready centre which is capable of treating such cases.

“Understanding Ecosystem for Health“, was the theme of Children’s Science Congress during the 108th ISC held at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on 04 January at 10.00 am at the Main Dome. The objective of National Children’s Science Congress programme is to exhibit creativity and innovativeness, more particularly to solve societal problems.
The inauguration programme saw the release of the Abstract Book of Children’s Science Congress at the hands of Dr. Subhash R. Chaudhari, Vice Chancellor, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Chief Guest Dr. Satish Wate, Former Director, CSIR NEERI, Nagpur and Former Chairman, Recruitment and Assessment Board (RAB), CSIR, New Delhi. Also present was Dr.Vijay Laxmi Saxena, General President, ISCA , Dr.Manoranjan Mohanty, Head, NCSTC, Govt of India, Dr. R. Ramamurthy, Ex General President, ISCAand Dr. Nishikant Raut, Convener, National Adolescent Science Conference.
Dr. Subhash R. Chaudhary, in his speech emphasized “what we read by itself is not complete education, it is very important to adopt a research culture to complete that education and it is equally important to inculcate the temperament of researchin children”. He added that if the children are shown the scientific direction, then they can easily solve even the biggest of problems.
In this direction, Dr. Satish Wate too commented that it was essential that children are encouraged to participate in science exhibitions which would pave a path to them being selected in big events like Vigyan Bharati. He quoted: “You Learn, You Perform, You Exhibit”. Besides, he also spoke about ‘Self-Reliant India’ in relation to the aspects like the Covid Vaccine success in India, Defence, Agriculture and Space missions. ‘Swachh Mohalla Competition’ by NMC & Nagpur@2025
Nagpur@2025 along with Nagpur Municipal Corporation is organizing a Swachh Mohalla Competition under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Under the Swachh Mohalla Competition, any group of citizens can form a unit or locality and will be eligible to compete.
The citizens who are willing to take part in the competition will be having 100% support from the NMC which will be appointing a volunteer for every Mohalla. Other than the volunteers, NMC is keen on providing the citizens with all the logistical help.
The idea behind this competition is that the NMC wants maximum involvement of the citizens. The concept is for Mohallas/RWAs to take ownership of the area and ensure the governance through various arms of NMC as well as their own collective responsibility of making their unit clean, hygienic, and well-managed across the standard parameters.
The NMC team and the Nagpur@2025 team will ensure that participating Mohallas/RWAs receive special support in the form of speedy response through specialized helplines.
Eligibility & Participation:
- Mohalla will be a defined unit comprising not less than 200 homes and not exceeding 500 homes. Mohalla includes self-contained Gated Communities.
- The Mohalla or the RWA will submit applications through the online link shared or through the offline printed forms available at the Zonal Offices of NMC. Zonal offices will extend appropriate help to the citizens as required.
- The applications must be supported/ signed by at least 10 homes in the Mohalla/ Gated Community.
Period of Competition, Evaluation & Award:
- The competition will be held till March 31, 2023.
- The Mohalla will be evaluated immediately after the application is received for determining its current status on the specified parameters.
- Monthly and weekly evaluations shall be carried out by the NMC.
- The final results will be declared in the month of April 2023.
Guidelines and Parameters on which the evaluations will be carried out:
- Waste Collection (pick-up by NMC vendor) must be done daily.
- Source Segregation, door-to-door and gate collection of green (wet or biodegradable), dry (non-biodegradable), and domestic hazardous waste.
- Ban on use of single-use plastic bags in every shop/vendor in Mohalla.
- Swachhta App usage by the citizens.
- Composting of wet waste.
- Awareness activities, cleanliness messaging amongst all citizens/shops/etc.
- Ensuring non-dumping of construction debris through association and NMC also.
- Cleaned Garden/ Public spaces/ Parking spaces.
- Specific innovations undertaken for waste management and /or cleanliness.
- Management of Animal and Dog poop.
- Public Toilet Management through the NMC team that is ensuring operations and hygiene.
- Black spot removal and monitoring.
- Litter bins with street vendors and shops/ establishments in the Mohalla/ campus.
- Red Spot (spitting) monitoring and elimination.
- Implementation of the RRR principle, (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) along with dry segregation.
- Upkeep of Strom water drains through NMC.
- Rewards and Recognition Programmes for citizens/ cleaning staff etc.
In order to encourage the citizens, the NMC has even kept prizes for the participants which are categorized as follows:
First Prize- (3 groups or units) with a prize of a total value of Rs 75 lakh
Second Prize- (top 5 groups or units) with a prize of a total value of Rs 50 lakh
Third prize- (top 7 groups or units) with a prize of a total value of Rs 35 lakh
The prize amount will be granted in the form of a development fund for each participant Mohalla/ RWA to be utilized in consultation with the winner. Along with the prize money, certificate and medals will also be provided.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, the NMC Commissioner, Radhakrishnan B, Additional Commissioner, Ram Joshi, Past President of the VED Council, Shivkumar Rao, and Convener of Nagpur@2025, Nimish Sutaria have urged the citizens to take part in the competition by participating in large numbers. Radhakrishnan. B said “Sizeable contribution is expected from the citizens. A comparison will be done assessing the before and after look of the Mohalla. Citizens can drop a what’s app message on the number: 8380002025 for any assistance during the competition. Additionally, the citizens should start using the Swachhta App as far as possible.”
In future, diabetics will need only one insulin dose a week
Injecting daily dose of insulin before having food is a part of routine for many people living with diabetes, be it type 1 or type 2. Many had to inject the insulin twice or thrice in a day as per requirements. This will soon become the thing of past.
The future insulin will be glucose sensitive and ‘smart’. It will understand patient’s need and release the exact amount of insulin the patient needs. Taking this insulin once in a week will be enough and most importantly, the next level of insulin will be available in the form of a pill to swallow replacing painful injections.
The doctors who spoke about advancements in diabetes and heart treatment told many exciting things about monitoring and treatment of both the lifestyle-based diseases on Wednesday in a plenary session of the 108th Indian Science Congress. Dr. S.G.Vasista, senior pulmonologist, chaired the session.
Interestingly, both the speakers – Cardiologist Dr ShantanuSengupta and Diabetologist Dr Sunil Surajprasad Gupta – and the chairman were from Nagpur.
“Machine learning, artificial intelligence and smart watches are helping doctors in identifying diseases at earlier stages. In India, we have a huge number of people suffering from pre-diabetic and pre-hypertensive conditions. Tests should start from age of 30 years for men and 40 years for women,” said Dr Sengupta, Director, Sengupta Hospital and Research Institute, Nagpur.
He added that it has become easier with the advanced monitoring tools like watches and mobile applications to keep vital records of heart pumping and sugar levels. But, one must apply mind while using this artificial intelligence. “These machines are to help us out and not to add into our stress. So, use them but always apply your mind,” said Dr Sengupta.
Adding into this, Dr Sunil Surajprasad Gupta, Fellow of American College of Endocrinology and FRCP (London, Glasgow & Edinburgh), said that the diabetes has different sub-types and every individual has to be treated with a different set of medicines and mixed therapies. “The Type 1 diabetes has five new subgroups while the type 2 has four. Medicines are different for every sub-group now. Earlier, lifestyle modification was the only remedy for the people having pre-diabetic conditions. But now, we have approved drug Metformin for obese/overweight pre-diabetic persons,” Dr Gupta said.
Both doctors explained how phenotype of Indian people aredifferent from that of Europians or Americans and underlined the importance of local studies. They also quoted several locally-conducted studies and figures during their presentations.
Dr. Jitendra Singh Inaugurates Archaeology Expo
An exhibition of rare ancient artefacts was inaugurated today by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, on the sidelines of the 108th Indian Science Congress being hosted here by Rashtrasant Tukadoji MaharajNagpur University.
The ISC was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Mr. NarendraModi, earlier in the day.
The exhibition is housed in the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology of the university. Amidst the displays of scientific developments the university also put up this expo showcasing the rich heritage of India and Vidarbha.
Vice Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Pro VC Dr. Sanjay Dudhe, Registrar Dr. Raju Hiwase and Hod Dr. Preety Trivediwere among those present at the exhibition’s inauguration. The students of the department have put up various stalls in the premises that talk about the rich cultural heritage of India.
On display are stone tool manufacturing techniques of the prehistoric period, rock art, burials etc. Dr. Trivedi while interacting with the media said that the slogan of the exhibition is, ‘Heritage of India- Rich and Vibrant’. The department has worked with two branches of the Archaeological Survey of India.
The museum at the department’s Rai Bahadur HiralalArchaeological Museum established in 1992 by the efforts of late Prof Ajay Mitra Shastri the then head of the department is also open to the public. Dr. Trivedi said that every antiquity in this museum is original and is excavated by the department itself. She also said that the concept of the museum is to develop it into a research and archaeology centre.
Sourav Ganguly is set to join the Delhi Capitals as the Director of Cricket
Sourav Ganguly, former head of the BCCI, will rejoin the IPL in April’s forthcoming season as director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals.
The former India captain, who left his position as BCCI president in October, will also be in charge of the franchise’s cricket operations, which also include the Pretoria Capitals of the SA T230 league and the Dubai Capitals of the ILT20.
“Yes, Sourav will be back with Delhi Capitals this year. The discussions and modalities are over. He has worked with the franchise, shares a good comfort level with owners and if he would have worked in IPL, it would have always been with DC,” according to the source.

Police recruitment: 429 posts, 34,871 candidates in race in Nagpur
Nagpur: A total of 34,871 applications were received from aspirants for a total of 429 posts of constables and drivers under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate. With this, 81 applicants have been received for every vacant post.
The physical tests for the recruitment will begin on Wednesday at Police Line Takli in Nagpur. 34,871 online applications were received for 308 posts of constables and 121 posts of drivers. Of these, 7,402 posts are of female aspirants, police sources said. The physical tests for the recruitment will begin on Wednesday. As per the norms, the recruitment is divided into two parts — physical tests of 50 marks and written tests of 100 marks. The date of written tests will be decided in the next week. The physical tests for male candidates include — shot put, 100-metre run, 1600-metre run while shot put, 100-metre run and 800-metre run are for female aspirants.
The police administration is taking efforts to maintain transparency in the recruitment process. The entire process is being videographed at each stage along with CCTV surveillance. The advertisement for the recruitment 2021 was published on November 6, 2022. The last date for accepting online applications was November 30, 2022. Later, it was extended till December 15, 2022 after reports of technical difficulties faced by the candidates while filling online application forms surfaced.
10,828 apply for 179 posts in Nagpur Rural Police
The Nagpur Rural Police received a total of 10,828 applications of aspirants for 179 posts, making it 60 applications for one vacancy. Of these, 2,758 applications are of female candidates. The Nagpur Rural Police published advertisements for 132 vacant posts of constables and 47 posts of drivers.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) (Home) Sanjay Purandare, the physical tests started on Monday. The drivers will have to clear all the technical tests of driving during the recruitment process.

Sony offers the WF-LS900 in three colours at the launch: beige, white, and black. These earbuds feature a textured finish that offers a great in-hand feel, and to the delight of the consumers, it eliminates fingerprints that are common in these form factors. All three models look sharp, clean with the white model looking minimalist, the black being robust, and beige being fun. This is Sony’s most refined design yet and shows how much the design language of Sony has evolved since WF-1000XM3 days.
This design has a purpose and that purpose is to offer the best fit on any Sony earbuds yet. Each of these earbuds weighs just 4.8 grams, which is remarkably light compared to 7.3 grams of each WF-1000XM4 buds. These earbuds also feel airy and don’t exert any pressure once worn.
Sony is also elevating its use of sustainable materials and the WF-LS900N comes with four pairs (XS, S, M, L) of silicone ear tips in the box. Like every other earbud, it is always recommended that you try different ear tips and mix and match for the best fit.
Once you find that fit, the WF-LS900N comes into its own. The character these earbuds bring to the table, you will be hard pressed to see whether they lean towards 1000XM4s or the LinkBuds. Compared to the WF-1000XM4, these can be worn for longer hours and stay in your ears whether you are talking, eating, running, or walking.
All these are major design wins for Sony and by making the case pocketable, makes for a perfect combo. A few things clearly stand out when you listen to music on the WF-LS900.
These earbuds offer exceptional clarity and a lot of prominence to mids and vocals. You won’t find the vocals to be messy or lack details and even the instrument separation comes out reasonably well. The roominess it tries to achieve is a good example of Sony using its advanced Integrated Processor V1 to beat the laws of physics and squeeze out more from a 5mm driver.
However, it falls short of matching its premium sibling WF-1000XM4 regarding low-end sound. In regular use, you will be delighted with the WF-LS900N and might prefer this over 1000XM4s for its comfort and lightweight design.
It doesn’t suppress sound to the same level as WF-1000XM4 but it does a reasonably good job of drowning out low frequency sound and stopping distractions. The WF-LS900N does manage to edge out its premium cousin when it comes to transparency mode. The ambient sound mode on these earbuds sounds more natural and does not have that robotic feeling.
In a nutshell, Sony has delivered true wireless earbuds with clear vocals, a detailed sound signature, and an ambient mode that is natural. With LDAC support, you can succeed at bringing out more detail when paired to an Android smartphone. The WF-LS900N are the smallest and lightest true wireless earbuds to support hi-res audio. With competitive active noise cancellation, it is hard to argue against them.
The WF-LS900N brings all the goodness one expects from a Sony audio device accessible through the Headphones Connect app. There is Speak to Chat, adaptive sound control, EQ customisation, and other features like “wear to play” and “after call”. At this point, the number of features crammed into the app can overwhelm you.
One thing that won’t overwhelm you for sure is the calling experience. These have a clear calling capability with callers experiencing natural sound and able to separate your voice in noisy environments. Thanks to that mesh covering the external microphone, it also separates the wind distortion very well.
With a battery life of around 20 hours with the case and 6 hours on a single charge, the WF-LS900N offers a good balance between endurance and performance. The fact that you can wear these earbuds and not worry about it is a win for your ears and that alone makes it a worthy consideration even at the price of Rs 16,990.

Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova Diagnosed With Throat And Breast Cancer
Martina Navratilova, a tennis icon who was recently diagnosed with breast and throat cancer, says she is praying for a “positive conclusion.” The 66-year-old American native of Czechoslovakia revealed the diagnosis on Monday but noted that both conditions were curable.
The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion has previously been diagnosed with cancer; in 2010, she was found to have breast cancer, but six months later, the diagnosis was changed to “clean.” The double whammy is significant, but it can be fixed, and she expressed hope for a successful ending. “I’ll fight with everything I’ve got, but it’s going to stink for a while.”
During the tests, a lump was also discovered in her breast, which was later diagnosed as an unrelated cancer. “The prognosis is good and Martina will start her treatment this month,” said her agent.
Navratilova’s treatment in New York has forced her to abandon plans to commentate on the Australian Open although she will appear from time to time remotely. Chris Evert, Navratilova’s great rival on the courts who became her friend, revealed in January 2022 that she had ovarian cancer but was declared to be in remission in May.
As a player, Navratilova brought a new physical dimension to women’s tennis. Her powerful serve and agility at the net made her the dominant payer of her era as she picked up a total of 59 Major titles — 31 doubles and 10 mixed doubles adding to her 18 singles titles. MOIL registers record December production
Breaking a multi-year record, MOIL has registered best December production of 141,321 tonnes in December,2022. Producing at its rated capacity level, production increase has been to an extent of 18 percent over November, 2022.
Sales at 1,64,235 tonnes for the month has also been spectacular, with a growth of around 91 percent over November, 2022.
Shri Ajit Kumar Saxena, CMD MOIL, who has taken charge as CMD on 29th December, 2022, shared that it is heartening to see MOIL team coming together to register such a performance and expressed confidence that the same will be continued.
About MOIL: MOIL Limited is a Schedule-A, Miniratna category-1 CPSE under the administrative control of Ministry of Steel, Government of India. Kamini returns home excited to inform everyone that Ashok and Yashoda fought. However, they arrive home happily together which stuns Kamini. She later blackmails Ashok, threatening to take the rest of the money from Yashoda. Ashok warns her not to destroy his family and devises a strategy to defeat her along with Arvind (Mayank Mishra).”
About &TV’s Happu Ki Ultan Paltan track, Daroga Happu Singh, shares, “Manohar and Daroga Happu Singh (Yogesh Tripathi) make omelets after taking eggs from Commissioner’s basket as they feel hungry. He later informs them that the eggs were laid by a snake (Naagin), which shocks them. The Naagin begins to haunt Happu for eating her eggs. She also tells him that she will kill Rajesh (Kamna Pathak) and eat his kids (Hritik, Ranbir, and Chamchi), making him feel stressed. Happu begins to hallucinate and sees Naagin everywhere. The twist comes when Karishma sees Happu having a conversation with the Naagin and informs Rajesh and Katori Amma, who think that he is having an affair with her.” About &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, Angoori Bhabi shares, “Saxena (Saanand Verma) adopts a stray dog and names him, Rocky. He brings Rocky for a New Year’s Eve party at Anita’s (Vidisha Srivastava’s) house. At the party, Tiwari (Rohitashv Gour) and Vibuti (Aasif Sheikh) mock Saxena for his poor singing skills. Rocky feels sorry for his owner and decides to take revenge. He starts barking and chasing Tiwari and Vibhuti the next day. Anita requests Saxena to help and save them, but Rocky gets out of control. Later, Prem (Vishwajeet Soni) brings his dog, Deewani, and Rocky is mesmerized by her sight. Looking at this, Saxena gets an idea and tells Tiwari and Vibhuti to get Rocky married to Deewani and do kanyadaan.”

HSC, SSC exam dates announced by MS Board
Maharashtra Board of Secondary and Higher Education has announced dates of HSC and SSC examinations of Summer 2023.
The HSC examinations will be held from February 21 to March 21.
The SSC examinations will be held between March 2 and 25.

Maharashtra Mini Olympic Competition from January 1 to 12, 2023
The Maharashtra Mini Olympics is being organized in the state from 1st to 12th January 2023 and this competition is being held including 39 sports. Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi Pune, Puna Club, AMI Gorpadi in Baramati Taluka of District and other districts in the state at Nagpur, Nashik, Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Amravati, and Mumbai.
Badminton, handball, netball, and Sepak Tekra are four sports competitions that have been organized in the district. It is necessary to create an atmosphere in the entire state for organizing this competition. CBSE announces exam dates for class 10 &12
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the examination schedule for Classes 10 and 12. The board exams for both classes will start from February 15, 2023.
Releasing the date sheets, the board said it has given a sufficient gap between two subjects generally offered by a student in both classes.
Competitive examinations, including JEE Main, have been taken care of while preparing the date sheet for Class XII.
The board said that the date sheets have been prepared by avoiding nearly 40,000 subject combinations to ensure that no two subject examinations of students fall at the same time.

Ind Vs SL: Hardik Pandya to lead in T20I
On Tuesday the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee — under outgoing chief Chetan Sharma announced — India’s squads for the white-ball home series versus Sri Lanka, which gets underway next year on January 03 in Mumbai.
As expected, Hardik Pandya has once again been named as the captain of the T201 squad with no big guns available whereas Rohit Sharma will return to take charge of the ODI line-up after his thumb injury during the Bangladesh tour. Hardik has also been promoted as the new ODI vice-captain (despite KL Rahul’s presence).
Some of the notable factors from the T201 line-up is that Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the vice-captain, which doesn’t include the likes of Rahul, Rishabh Pant, etc. Meanwhile, it is a young squad including the likes of Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar (recently bought by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 mini-auction for INR 5 crores), etc. It gives one a sneak peek of the selectors’ mindset keeping in view the next edition of the T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA, in 2024.
Talking about the ODI squad, Pant remains absent from it as well. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also not part of both squads. The biggest omission is Shikhar Dhawan, who has struggled for runs and has seen a sharp decline in his strike rate amid rising stocks of Kishan and Gill. Meanwhile, Md Shami also returned whereas the likes of Rahul and Kohli will feature straightaway in the 50-over series. There’s no mention of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja as the duo are expected to return for theNew Zealand white-ball series at home.
