Nagpur – In a tragic incident Two youths drown in nullah at Bahadura

Nagpur : In a tragic incident two youths died due to drowning in a nullah at Bahadura under jurisdiction of Sakkardara Police Station. The deceased were identified as Sheikh Javed Sheikh Iqbal (22), a resident of Hasanbagh, and Irfan Sheikh alias Sonu Jibrail Sheikh (30), a resident of Sartaj Colony, Bada Tajbagh.

According to police, 15 persons were playing cards near a nullah on Bahadura-Pandhurna road on Friday evening. A car came from Bahadura side and stopped near the gambling den. The gamblers noticed five persons disembarking from the car in ‘police style’. Assuming them cops, the gamblers panicked and starting fleeing the spot. Wasim Sheikh, Sheikh Javed, Irfan Sheikh and an unidentified youth jumped into a nullah. Wasim and one other managed to cross the nullah while Javed and Irfan drowned in nullah.

On being informed by some youths, a team from Nandanvan Police Station rushed to the spot on Friday late night. Search operation was launched with the help of officials of Fire and Emergency Services during midnight. A team from Sakkardara Police Station also reached the spot in the morning hours and fished out two bodies from the nullah. A large number of relatives and friends of the deceased youths were present at the spot during the search operation. Sakkardara police registered a case of accidental deaths and sent the bodies for post-mortem.

While talking Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone IV Raj Tilak Raushan denied involvement of police personnel in the raid at Bahadura. “No teams of Sakkardara and Nandanvan police stations conducted raid at the spot,” he said. However, villagers of the area are confident about involvement of police personnel in the ‘raid’.
