Nagpur: The wait may be longer this year. The southwest monsoon is likely to make its entry in Nagpur by June 16 and cover the entire Vidarbha by June 26. Earlier, it was expected that the monsoon may hit the region by June 9 but it has been delayed by one week, according to reports..With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announcing monsoon rainfall to hit Kerala almost five days prior to the deadline, Rajasthan is also expecting the monsoon to commence earlier than last year.
According to M L Sahu, the Deputy Director General of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the arrival date of the monsoon in the entire country has got postponed by one week. Earlier, June 9 was supposed to be the fixed date for the monsoon to arrive in Nagpur. However, a study of pattern for the last 50 years concluded that this year, Nagpur is likely to receive its first monsoon rain by June 16.
First the RMC had predicted an early monsoon by June 8-10. Then due to stagnation of the limit of monsoon for a week or so the met office said that the monsoon was likely to arrive in Vidarbha by June 16.
