The Election Commission has announced the dates of the Gujarat Assembly polls.

The elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5.

Out of the 182 Assembly seats, polling for 89 seats will be held on December 1 and for the remaining 93 on December 5.

The counting of votes and results will be held on December 8, along with the results of the Himachal Pradesh polls.

Major contesting parties in Gujarat are ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Gujarat is considered to be a strong fort for the BJP.

However, AAP is a strong opposition to the ruling party.

The elections and related developments are being keenly watched across the country.
