National, May 15, 2023: Gemini, Cargill’s flagship edible oil brand and market leader in the edible oil category in Maharashtra, has been ranked the No. 1 quality sunflower oil brand in India in a survey conducted by Consumer VOICE (Voluntary Organization in the Interest of Consumer Education) to assess the safety and quality of edible oils sold in the country.
The study that placed Gemini sunflower oil on No.1 rank on quality was based on the findings of a laboratory study conducted on 23 Sunflower brands tested on 20 quality parameters as per the regulations of FSSAI (Food Safety & Standards Authority of India), Agmark and legal methodology. Each brand was evaluated on quality and purity parameters including fatty acid composition, saturated fatty acids, MUFA, PUFA, trans fats, moisture and insoluble impurities, refractive index, acid value, saponification value, and unsaponifiable matter among others. This is part of an initiative by the Government of India, under which the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has been supporting Voluntary Consumer Organizations for conducting comparative tests of Products and Services. The purpose of the initiative is to help consumers compare products and take purchase decisions diligently, thus raising consumer awareness.
