Nagpur : Quick response by Fire & Emergency Services Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) averted a major tragedy after a fuel vending machine caughtfire at Jindal Petrol Pump, anoutlet of Indian Oil Corporation (IoC), at Old Bagadganj Layout, on Gangabai Ghat Road, near Telephone Exchange Square, on Tuesday morning. A petrol vending machine and two two-wheelers worth Rs 1.25 lakhweregutted in thefirebefore the firefighters could douse the flames completely.
No casualty has been reported. Someon lookers said that a customer was using a cellphone while refueling his two-wheeler. The sparks from the cellphone battery ignited the fire. However, Fire Brigade personnel maintained that fire broke out at the vending machine due tosomesparkingduringfueltesting in a bucket. Soon after receiving the information about the incident,ateam of fire fighters and four watertenders rushed to the spot.
Petrol pump staff succeeded in dousing the flames to some extent by using fourdry chemical fire extinguishers andone carbondioxide extinguisher. Fire fighters took their positions and used a gentle spray for cooling down the area.
They prevented fire from spreading at the petrol pump and saved property worth Rs 15 lakh. A Honda bike (MH-49/AQ7756)owned by Harsh Bokdeand a moped (MH-31/DS-9765) belonging to Ghanshyam Chandek arwere completely gutted in the fire. The IoC outlet is owned by Swaroop Singh Jindal
