Creation of the Universe – According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma created the universe on this auspicious day the dawn of time and the commencing day of the cosmic cycle is also said to be the day of this festival.

The Victory of Good Over Evil – In addition to this, Gudi Padwa signifies Lord Rama’s vanquishing of Ravana and his return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. A gudi (a kind of flag) is hoisted outside houses to indicate victory and protection.

The Era of Shalivahana – The festival is associated with Emperor Shalivahana, who overcame the Sakas and established the Saka Era in Maharashtra.

Agricultural Significance – A festival that kicks off the harvest season coinciding with the end of the Rabi crop cycle, bringing joy and prosperity to farming communities.

Date: Gudi Padwa will take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Mahurat Beginning and Ending: The Pratipada Tithi (the first lunar day after the new moon) will begin at 04:27 PM on March 29, 2025, and end at 12:49 PM on March 30, 2025.

Timing is essential in Gudi Padwa rituals, as performing puja around this time is thought to produce the finest results for the coming year.

How is Gudi Padwa Celebrated?

The Gudi is raised: A bamboo stick, decorated with a bright silk cloth, neem leaves, a sugar garland, and an inverted copper or silver pot (kalash), is placed outside homes, signifying victory, prosperity, and divine blessings.

House decorations and Rangoli: People clean and decorate the house with fresh mango leaves and intricate rangoli designs inviting positivity.

2025: Pujas for Gudi Padwa

The Gudi Padwa puja consists of the elaborate rituals following a particular pattern and meaning. The following activities are performed accordingly:

House Cleaning: Begin with cleaning the house and decorating the front door with rangoli designs. This view is considered auspicious and is meant to welcome prosperity.

Raising the Gudi : Take a pole or stick and set up your Gudi (a painted pot) at the entrance of the house. The Gudi becomes the centre of attention during the festivities and is decked up with colorful clothes and auspicious things.

Take Pooja Samagri: Put the decorated Gudi into a plate and keep the other offerings in place.

Light the Diya and Incense: Find peace with Lord Ganesha and pray for divine light and fragrance for the upcoming year.

Offer Prasad: Offer sweets like Puran Poli or Shrikhand as Prasad and spread Akshata on the Beth in paddy to bless them.

Perform Aarti and Chant Mantras: Singing aarti, chanting mantras, and bhajans will carry the essence of the prayer home.
